The small intestine digests and absorbs nutrients from food. It is around 20 feet long and while someone can live without their small intestine, digestion would bypass it and food would pass directly into the colon from the stomach without being fully broken down and absorbed.

• The Small Intestine does much of the work of
digestion, the Small Intestine absorbs the
nutrients of food and breaks them down.

3. How long/ Life span of
• The small intestine is about 20 feet long

4. Can you live with out it
• Yes someone can still live without his or her
small intestine. The ingested will still be
digested by the stomach but this will bypass
through where it will normally pass through
the small intestine and directly empty to the
colon.
