This document provides background information on suicide clusters in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. It discusses two communities that experienced suicide clusters between 2009-2011, with 25 young people taking their lives. The document aims to learn about prevention, response, and recovery from suicide clusters in tribal communities. It draws from interviews with community members and leaders to identify strengths, resources, and recommendations. Key findings include the significant impact of clusters on communities, barriers to prevention including limited health resources, and suggestions such as culturally grounded prevention programs.
