Slope task 4.1 by treemetrics
TreeMetrics aims to provide more end products from fewer trees. It uses data mining and modeling of stand quality indicators like stem taper, straightness, branching, and internal wood quality. It also uses stem bucking simulation systems and new technologies like UAV data and terrestrial laser scanning to automatically measure 3D forests. This allows for harvest modeling to optimize value through 'cutting to value' and 'cutting to demand'. The problems include determining productive area, stocking levels, stem taper and quality variation, as well as maximizing different wood product volumes and values from pulp to small and large sawlogs. TreeMetrics' offering provides better forest management through targets, incentives and monitoring to create a competitive advantage through strong linkages between primary and secondary

In the fist decade of the 21st century we are getting used to living in what Thomas Friedmann the pulitzer prize winner calls a hyper connected world. In the first decade of the 21st century we are getting used living in a highly uncertain world with unstoppable risks. The experts are telling us that this is the new norm. In this first decade we have witnessed fusion, fission nanotech, biotech, Big Data they tell us is the next big thing in technology. All in all amazing strides! In the forest industry however we are still using a 19th century tool called the calipers to measure our forests. Today I would like to offer the industry a viable alternative
