INTRODUCTION
Entrepreneurs are regarded as Nation builders as
they contribute for the development of an economy.
Hence, Government has to provide benefits in the
way of various kinds of assistance, especially for SSI
units, through various institutions as they lack in
technical & marketing skills and also need help in
the way of infrastructural facilities as they are
basically considered to be poor.
GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE
Government of India established National Small Industries
Corporation (NSIC) in 1955 to promote, help and accelerate
the growth of Small Scale Industries.
 NSIC is directly operating different programmes by
professionals through 8 regional offices, 5 Technical Service
Centres, 2 foreign offices, 2 Software Technology Parks, 17
branch offices located in almost all the States and 3
Technical Services Extension Centres.
The NSIC provides machinery on hire purchase,
equipment on lease, marketing inputs for meeting
domestic and export needs, technical and managerial
assistance etc..,
NSIC also helps SSI units in enterprise building,
training to promote industries throughout the
country.
It is also encouraging in growth of SSI’s in backward
areas, for selected lines of production.
TYPES OF ASSISTANCE
1. Raw material assistance
 Supply of materials on the off- the shelf basis
 Import of raw materials
 Providing scarce raw materials on priority basis
 Supplies through NSIC godowns/ depots
2. Plant and Machinery
A. Hire purchase scheme
 Supply of indigenous and imported machinery and
equipment on easy financial terms.
 Mainly targeted on first generation entrepreneurs.
 Special focus on women entrepreneurs, weaker
sections, handicapped and ex-servicemen and SC/ST
entrepreneurs.
 Creating a sound and formidable and entrepreneurship
base.
 Faster growth and employment.
B. Leasing
100% finance for SSI’s to facilitated diversification
and technology
Single window for indigenous/imported machinery.
Tax rebate on full-year rental.
Increases in productivity.
3. Technical assistance
 Information dissemination on
technology, business and investment
opportunities.
 Matching of business partners and search for
technology worldwide
 Training, consultancy and technology evaluation
 Technology transfer programs
Setting up a network to access database
Technically trained manpower in
traditional and advanced trades.
New technologies and modification
of existing prototypes to take care of
emerging trends in manufacturing
technology.
These centres have been recognised
by Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research for in-house
R&D.
4. Marketing assistance
 Ensure fair margin to producers of goods.
 Standardisation & quality control with testing
facilities.
 Marketing of products under common brand name
 Provide publicity to SSI products.
 Upgrade Technology by supplying sophisticated
machinery and equipment
Apart from these facilities, additional facilities
for SSI who are registered under single point
scheme are as follows:
 Issue of tender form free of cost
 Advance intimation of tenders
 Issue of a Competency Certificate in case the
value of an order exceeds monetary limit after due
verification.
 Surrender of security deposits up-to the monetary
limit for which unit is registered.
