9. The Intersection of Substance Abuse and Domestic Violence: Understanding
the Link and Seeking Solutions”
SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ARE TWO ISSUES THAT HAVE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT
ON INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES IN INDIA.
WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL IS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS OR ALCOHOL, THEY MAY BECOME
MORE AGGRESSIVE AND PRONE TO VIOLENT OUTBURSTS
VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR CAN HAVE A DEVASTATING IMPACT ON THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF
FAMILY MEMBERS, PARTICULARLY WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHO ARE OFTEN THE PRIMARY VICTIMS
OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND RESOURCES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES
AFFECTED BY SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. THIS CAN INVOLVE RAISING
AWARENESS, PROVIDING COUNSELLING AND THERAPY, AND CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR
INDIVIDUALS TO SEEK HELP.
10. FOCUS OF THE PAPER
Casework interventions:
Counselling
Open communication
Non judgemental attitude
Connecting with peer support groups
Childcare assistance
In conclusion, the intersection of substance abuse and domestic violence is a complex issue
that requires a multifaceted approach to address in an Indian context. By understanding the
link between these issues and implementing solutions, we can create a safer and healthier
environment for individuals, families, and communities in India.
