11. Tools like SLoodle blend the use of Second Life with Moodle, allowing a chat in Second Life to be shared in a Moodle “classroom” environment. Other clever tools are being added to make library reference work possible in SL.

20. HQ of the Alliance Library System, the organization that grew from a “storefront” to what is now referred to as the Information Archipelago. ALS set up ALA InfoArts Island to get started.
21. Galen Noltenius (Mark Bard of the ALA Washington Office) was an early adapter, having a building constructed for the Washington office. Mark was a mentor for a number of ALA staff. His office included monitors that when clicked on provided a dropdown menu for url links to various Web sites supported by his office. A larger screen gadget provided a slide show of real life activities and events.
22. Oberon Octagon opened an office for ASCLA and RUSA on the seventh floor of the ALA Tower. He installed a CogCalendar that displays dates for Events pulled from a Google Calendar. At the entrance to the office space, he installed a RSS Sensor that recorded the time/date and avatar names of visitors and had them recorded on a blog (above middle insert) .

Vision and purpose ALA will develop and maintain a dynamic virtual space to support the goals and objectives of the organization and to facilitate the collaborative and informational needs of its diverse global membership. Strategic objectives Brand and proof concept for Midwinter. Garner interest in the divisions. Make a statement to our members. Donovan is the ALA continuity contact. Proof of concept as a set piece which will then represent diverse needs over time. The ALA will offer divisions a piece of island (shared spaces) or let them buy their own parcel. Do not want a stereotypical library look or feel.
