What Is Skinput Technology??????
Introduction
 Skinput is named because it uses the human skin
 Skinput, is a sensor system.
 Skinput allows the user to simply tap their skin in order to
control audio devices, play games, make phone calls.
 Developed by Chris Harrison(Mellon university),
Microsoft research
Chris
Harrison
What is skinput
 Skinput turns the body into a touch screen surface.
 Skinput is an “input technology” mainly used to control mobile devices.
 Skinput uses a series of sensors to track where a user taps on his
arm.
 It listen to vibrations in our body
 The arm is an instrument
Components of The Technology
 A microchip-sized Pico projector
 Pico projector applies the use of projector in a
hand held device.
 An acoustic detector to detect sound vibrations
 It detects the ultra low frequency.
 It needs Bluetooth connection
Pico Projector
 It is also known as pocket projector or mobile
projector.
 The system comprises three main parts:
 The Laser light source
 The Combiner optics
 The Scanning mirror
Bio-Acoustics
 Study of sound waves inside living body.
 When a finger taps the skin, several distinct forms
of acoustic energy are produced.
 Longitudinal Waves
 Transverse Waves
Longitudinal Waves:
 These waves travel through the rigid tissues of the arm, exciting the waves,
which can respond to the mechanical vibrations by tapping on a rigid body.
Transverse Waves:
 Tapping on soft regions of the arm creates higher amplitude transverse
waves.
Bio-Acoustics: Sensing
 These signals need to be sensed and worked upon.
 This is done by wearing the wave sensor arm band.
 Two sensor packages focus on the arm of input.
 Signals transmitted though denser bones.

ADVANTAGES
 No need to interact with the gadget directly.
 Don’t have to worry about keypad.
 Skinput could also be used without a visual interface.
 People with larger fingers get trouble in navigating tiny buttons and
keyboards on mobile phones. With Skinput that problem disappears.
DISADVANTAGE
Individuals with visible disabilities cannot use this product.
The arm band is currently bulky.
The visibility of the projection of the buttons on the skin can be reduced if the
user has a tattoo located on their arm.
APPLICATION
 Using skinput, someone could send text messages by tapping his or her
arm in certain places .
 While walking and jogging, we can listen to music.
 Mobile
 Gaming
FUTURE SKINPUT
Research is going on to-
 Make armband smaller
 Incorporate more devices
 Extend accuracy level
CONCLUSIONS
 This system performs very well even if the body is in
motion
 in the future your hand could be your iPhone and your
handset could be watch-sized on your wrist.
