33. STRUCTURE OF LONG BONES
• Diaphysis: composed of mainly compact bone
with a central medullary canal( yellow bone
marrow)
• Two epiphysis: consist of outer covering of
compact bone & inner spongy bone ( red bone
marrow)
• Periosteum: Periosteum consist of two layers:
1-outer layer : tough & fibrous 2- inner layer :
consist of osteoblasts & osteoclasts
• Hyaline cartilage/ articular cartilage , outer
covering around periosteum
