Lp In The Construction Industry
LB traditionally provides several benefits to the owners. Regarding the monetary viewpoint, for
example, the owner can save a considerable amount of money for the project budget if utilizing LB
(Shrestha 2014). In addition, it is also simple to use because it focuses on the most crucial evaluation
criterion, the bidding cost (Yu and Wang 2012). In the construction industry, especially in highway
projects, LB is supported by the legislation for the transparency in the bidding process (Tran et al.
2016). Even though LB has aided, typically, the public owners for decades, it consists of various
drawbacks (Ahmed et al. 2012, Tran et al. 2016).
As a matter of fact, LB concentrates more on the cost, not quality, accepts that minimum ... Show

2008; Alleman et al. 2017; El Wardani et al. 2006; Gransberg and Shane 2015). According to Sullivan
and Guo (2009), it also improved the cash flow and especially the profitability of the contractor up to
8%. BV in highway projects attained promising outcomes with value added functions to the contractor
s selection in terms of project performance as stated by Abdelrahman et al. (2008). With collected data
from the MnDOT, they obtained the sufficiency of BV in evaluating and selecting the most
appropriate contractors. Supporting that conclusion, Ahmed et al. 2012 emphasized the use of BV in
the bidding process for highways. As stated in regulations, clients have to procure and deliver
construction services within regionally established regulatory parameters. Despite the fact that BV
execution associated with the growth of APDMs, which are legitimately being used in 48 out of 50
states, the use of BV in construction is limited. There are a few areas have constituted the guidelines
for BV in DBB projects; MnDOT (2012), for example, has established and achieved benefits from the
BV guidelines.
Many professional practitioners and organizations support the use of BV/QBS for procuring
construction services and are lobbying for its continued growth. In the A/E perspective, the American
Institute of Architects (AIA) stated the potential of QBS in providing efficient contractor s selection
outcomes in terms of cost saving and value engineering

Severity Of Xenophobia
Understanding the Severity of Xenophobia in Singapore In 2016, it was reported that foreigners make
up 40% of the Singapore s population and is projected to increase to 50% by 2030. The influx of
foreigners has caused Singaporeans to fear or hate foreigners even more. In other words, Singaporeans
are becoming increasingly xenophobic. This is evident in the increase of xenophobic acts or events
like the Hong Lim Park protest and Philippine Independence Day. Undeniably, xenophobia is a
contemporary social issue in Singapore. Hence, it is important for us to understand the severity of
xenophobia in Singapore to come out with appropriate solutions to combat xenophobia. Xenophobia
in Singapore Xenophobia was made known to Singapore in the General Elections of 2011. Foreign
influx was one of the hot button issues of the general elections, which pertains to the government s
liberal immigration and foreign worker policy. Singaporeans believe that the influx of foreigners was
the cause of overcrowding, rising property prices and unfair job opportunities for the locals. As
foreigners were blamed for creating the major problems of Singapore, it has resulted in tension
between Singaporeans and foreigners. This local foreign divide is evident in 2012, whereas a Chinese

From the examples shown above, it can be observed that the xenophobic attacks that happen in
Singapore are mostly online postings and criticisms on foreigners. When compared to other countries
that are also facing xenophobia, the severity of xenophobia in Singapore is quite low. For example,
xenophobia in South Africa has resulted in outbreaks of violent attacks among its people, causing
many tragedies and death which affect South Africa severely socially and economically. Whereas in
Singapore s case, there has not been any actual violent outbreaks; the xenophobic attacks in Singapore
happen only

Grendel s Mother And The Dragon In Beowulf

Beowulf : The Battle Against Grendel, Grendel s Mother and The Dragon The poet has depicted
Beowulf , the prince of The Geats, as a courageous heroic man of the Anglo Saxon era. He signifies
the true valiant character because he is willing to risk his life for the people and holds strong in his
values by returning a favour. Beowulf helps Hrothgar, The king of Denmark who had once done his
father a great favour. Beowulf accepts to defeat Grendel, a horrible demon who lives in the
swamplands of Hrothgar s kingdom. In this epic poem, Beowulf has three primary opponents:
Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the dragon. In this essay, I will analyze and compare the three

devastates everything that comes across his way. Eventually, Fate brings the dragon and Beowulf to
combat. Accompanied by Wiglaf, the only one who stands with him against the dragon, both face a

Raymond Chandler s Writing Style in The Big Sleep Essay...
Raymond Chandler s Writing Style in The Big Sleep
Unique writing style is definitely an essential element in any piece of writing, and Raymond Chandler
uses his style efficiently in The Big Sleep. Chandler s style is one that seems to come easily to him
and it also seems very natural to the reader, perhaps because there is not a lot of high, eloquent
language. Rich in description and dialogue, the characters seem more realistic to the reader as a result
of such details and natural speech. Chandler includes many descriptive words, similes, metaphors; yet
they are not complicated or ambiguous which may lead to misinterpretations. He also tends to focus
on a few major aspects of the characters, repeating those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The impression the reader gathers about Carmen from the first conversation she has with Marlowe and
the description is that she is immature and very childlike. Contrary to the description of Carmen,
Marlowe s description of Mrs. Regan s is one which allows the reader to see she is a more
sophisticated and intelligent woman
Marlowe meets Mrs. Regan and immediately notices her legs which he believes she intentionally
positioned for him to stare at. He goes into great detail saying, The knees were dimpled, not bony and
sharp. The calves were beautiful, the ankles long and slim and with enough melodic line for a tone
poem (17). Chandler allows Marlowe to quickly notice such things and as a result, the reader feels that
the description given is accurate as well as engaging. Upon completion of his conversation with Mrs.
Regan, Marlowe leaves the house still thinking, She had lovely legs. I would say that for her (21).
Although describing her legs does not seem like an incredibly important part of the plot, it shows how
manipulative Mrs. Regan really is. Marlowe knew from when he first saw Mrs. Regan she was trouble
and it is obvious he was right since he left the house distracted by her and still thinking about her legs.
By describing Mrs. Regan in this way, Chandler successfully contrasts Mrs. Regan and Carmen. The
aspects which Marlowe focuses on allow the reader to note Marlowe s impressions

The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk...
Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The
United States
In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on
the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C
reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not
been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in
1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also
result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers,
and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three
thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information.
This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000
people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to
be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the
study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so
7,458 were examined.
The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Patients had
their blood pressure measured six times total (three in the home

Feelings of depression are feelings of worthlessness, loss of interest in family, friends, and activities.
One example of what major depression feels like, imagine combining grief, anger, exhaustion while
working an all night job. Once I returned from deployment I faced social withdraw from friends and
family. Instead of going with my family to do fun things, I isolated myself and would stay home and
stare at the walls. I had little to no interest in doing things. When it was time to do grocery shopping, I
always stayed close to an exit. The loneliness I was feeling caused me to start thinking bad thoughts of
suicide. I felt alone, I didn t want to talk to anyone not even my wife. I didn t show any feelings of
care or love for my children. I continued to keep my feelings to myself. I turned to depressants trying

Aggressive Behavior In The Movie Bug s Life
Watching television with my family, the movie Bug s Life comes to mind when that bug is attracted to
a neon light which it is warned to not look at it since it is a bug repeller and will harm it. That scene
and the result of the bug still coming toward it has stayed with me through all my child and become a
moral recently. During the weekend, I often found myself clicking on another YouTube video, staring
at the shiny screen and ignoring the world around them yet it was not until I realized that isolating
myself in a digital word leads to me acting differently and being tired most of the time. Recently, an
incident occurred involving social media that led to wondering about the link between aggressive
behavior and an over dependence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the high risk group shown in the Hostility Online study could be assessed as meeting some of
the guidelines of internet addiction, but not being excessive enough. (Yen, Ju Yu, et al). With the
multiple scales and inventories used by both studies to examine if clinical factors contributed to
internet addiction, the answer from the first study is that, statistical analyses that included potential
mediating variables (the BAI, BDI, and CASS) showed that clinical factors played mediating roles
only when aggression predicted IAD and not vice versa . (Yen, Ju Yu, et al). This means that
aggression when seen as a symptom of aggression is not bound by underlying clinical factors.
Regardless of clinical factors, the data concerning the casual relationship still stands. This is also
referenced in the first article when it mentions that, In terms of demographic data, it was confirmed
that adolescents in the Internet addiction group had higher scores on the BDI, BAI, and CASS than did
those in the other two groups [high risk user and standard user] (Lim, Jae A, et al). Therefore, the
argument of clinical factors does not contradict with Internet addiction causing the aggressive
behavior as examined by the BDI, BAI, and CASS

If you have ever read any of the books in the diary of a wimpy kid series you would know that the

however this time he is having a train of bad luck following him. The worst thing that has happened to
him throughout the book is that his best friend Rowley Jefferson and Abigail Brown have been a
couple since the end of the last book, Rowley has chosen to turn over a new leaf and is trying to make
new friends. Greg is left without any friends and decides to try something new, like trying to make

Consumer nowadays are quite concern on the quality of the products purchased. They are more
willing to pay for a premium in order to obtain a superior quality of a product rather than spend less
money to get a low quality of product. Thus, quality has become an important factor in determining
what car or vehicle to purchase among consumers. Previous research has suggested that consumers are
keeping their cars for longer, so it is even more vital that their car be well built and relatively
inexpensive to maintain. Definitely, imported car is better as compared to local car especially in term
of quality. This is because imported cars were more reliable and cheaper to maintain than domestic
car. This helps consumers to save their considerable money at import car services such as for
maintenance and repair over the life of the car. Even the price of domestic car is cheaper than
imported car, but it require consumers to spend a lot for maintenance and repair in the future. As a
smart consumer, it is essential to consider not only the initial cost, but also the overall cost of
ownership for the life of the vehicle.
Moreover, there are three types of importers. First, many importers nowadays look for any product

The level playing field catch word distracts attention from the monstrous discrepancy between the
accountancy practised by the government in its own books and what the large corporations get away
with. The corporations hide their debts by keeping them off balance sheet. The government buries its
investments. The level playing field is the Mother Lie that has birthed the swarm of distortions and
untruths that are now crawling out from under every table and from every crack in the walls.
It is gratifying that the media and some of our politicians are starting to recognize some of what ER
had warned about for many years. But the most basic lie is still protected by the greatest of taboos. It
goes on being drummed into freshmen s heads in every country of the world. No Finance Minister can
open his mouth without it jumping out at you. The mirage of a self balancing economy made up of
tiny actors that are all powerless individually to affect prices is the scientific version of the level
playing field.
That could hardly cover an economy dominated by the Microsofts, General Electric, and the Enrons.
Surely you have to deal with that obvious clash between the fine theory and the reality to which it is
being applied. You might as well send

Analysis Of Our Souls At Night By Kent Haruf
Love is a concept that has been dissected and criticized since the beginning of time. People can see,
feel, and hear love but understanding the theory behind how love comes to be and the purpose behind
it has always been a mystery. Many psychologists and sociologists have engaged in the conversation
of love, including Ira Reiss. Reiss is a sociologist with a primary interest in love and sexual behaviors.
He proposed his own wheel theory of love which can be applied in analyzing the book Our Souls at
Night by Kent Haruf. This story is about two elderly neighbors, Addie Moore and Louis Waters, and
how their relationship flourished from being neighborly to love one another. In reviewing this piece of
literature, a person can clearly see the four stages of Reiss Wheel Theory and how they developed at
different times. Rapport is the first spoke on Reiss Wheel Theory. The development of rapport
encompasses a feeling of being at ease and able to communicate with each other (Starbuck Lundy,
2015). If a couple has similar social and cultural values they are more likely to develop rapport
(Starbuck Lundy, 2015). Kent Haruf developed this theory in his book Our Souls at Night. Taking a
critical view, a person can see how rapport was engaged throughout the first few weeks of Addie and
Louis relationship. Looking at the first few days of their sleeping arrangement people get an
uncomfortable feeling but as the story goes on Haruf shows them to be more at ease. After Louis

Essay about Golden Age Go
Go is a fascinating game that, although created in China, gained popularity and permanence in Japan.
Go planted its roots in the Heian Period and grew from there. The Heian Period, known as the Golden
Age of Japan, was a very stable time with the imperial court at the height of its reign, especially in its
early and middle years. Go provided a leisurely pastime and an opportunity for casual conversation
that was not only entertaining in a stimulating way, but at the same time maintained the cultivated
decorum of the ruling elite of the time which were among its most common players: courtiers. Since

Oh the other hand, it is still possible that Kibi sparked the popularity of Go in the court. However,
there are many aspects of Heian life that would have facilitated the acceptance of Go. Two unexpected
factors of the popularity of Go in the Heian court were the diet and the dress of the courtiers. The diet
of the court was poor, causing medical problems that stemmed from malnourishment; and it has been
speculated that the diet of the courtiers may have been at least partially responsible for the passivity
and pessimism that bulk so large in Heian history and literature (Shively and McCullough 398).
Because of this pessimism and lethargy that so plagued the court, it makes sense that a game like Go,
that requires no physical activity, became popular. The dress of courtiers would have highly restricted
movement, making pastimes that required activity very difficult and therefore impractical. The
members of the court wore ensembles that included in addition to [a] short outer jacket and long train
prescribed for women on formal occasions, as many as twenty or more identically cut robes... (Shively
and McCullough 395). Such an idea of extravagant dress is echoed in many the works of prose that
came out in the era. One example of a scene in which dress is commented on comes from The Pillow
Book by Sei Shōnagon that states ...one could see the varied colours of their many layered

The Early Stages of Biodiesel
Biofuel is a fuel that contains energy from geologically recent carbon fixation, which is made by
living organisms. Carbon fixation, most commonly occurs in plants and microalgae. This fuel can be
converted into liquid, solid and gas form. Biofuel is consider healthy for the environment, clean
burning, meaning that the carbon dioxide released when burning it is balanced by the carbon dioxide
absorbed by the plants that are grown to produce it. Biofuel has many uses, one being for
transportation, this fuel is known as biodiesel. Biodiesel is made up of recycled cooking oil, soybean
oil, vegetable oils and other fats. Not all the oils and fats are used for fuel, there put through a
chemical process called trans esterification which splits the oils into two parts, alkyl esters and
glycerin. The esters are used for fuel but the glycerin is used for other things such as soaps and make
ups. Biodiesel can be easily used in any diesel engine without needing to do any modifications. It
typically produces sixty percent less carbon dioxide emission the petroleum making it a lot more
environmentally friendly, plus who doesn t enjoy the smell of french fries while driving down the
road.
The Early Stages of Biodiesel Although biodiesel may seem relatively new, with less than a decade of
commercial scale production across the United States, the concept of biodiesel is shockingly old. The
inventors name was Rudolf Diesel; he envisioned vegetable oil becoming a fuel source for his engine.

The Building Blocks Of Learning
Emily Whitmer Rose Glasser EDTP 201 10/28/16 Ethnography: The Building Blocks of Learning I
remember my first day going to a school to observe. It felt more inquiring, rather than being obligated
to go to school just because I had to, like the state required us to. Ever since I have been given two
field placements, I have been increasingly interested in the teaching profession. My first field
placement has been an eye opener for all other rolls in a school. It has showed me just how important
other rolls are in a school, and how they can affect and tie into how a student does in a classroom.
Having two field placements has given me a new outlook on the classroom environment, curriculum,
and what goes on behind the scenes in the teaching profession. In my second field placement, which is
what this ethnography will evolve around, I was placed at Blue Lick Elementary School (right next to
Knight Middle School). Blue Lick Elementary School collaborates with Knight Middle School, to
ease the transition to 6th grade. This school is located in Heritage Creek, which is also close to my
first placement, Fairdale High School. The population in this neighborhood is low income. There are
480 students and the student teacher ratio is 16:1. Blue Lick Elementary School is a public co ed

confrontation did not result in open nuclear warfare between the US and USSR, the US Intelligence
Community (IC) was taken by surprise. How did the IC not notice the buildup of Soviet nuclear
weapons in Cuba? The information was there despite the best Russian denial and deception attempts.
The United States intelligence and military analysts allowed themselves to be deceived by the
Russians because they did not anticipate the Russians would station nuclear weapons outside the
Soviet Union. A closer look will show why the Russian deception worked for so long and why the US
was forced to react quickly to a crisis that could have easily spiraled into nuclear war. In October of
1962, a US U 2 reconnaissance flight over Cuba yielded photographic evidence that the Soviet Union
had installed medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles. President Kennedy over the next
thirteen days frantically tried to get the missiles removed without a war. President Kennedy went with
his Executive Committee working group and set up a naval quarantine of Cuba and gave Soviet
Premier Khrushchev a deadline for removing the missiles. After six days of diplomatic overtures and
increased military tensions, the Soviet Union withdrew the missiles. President Kennedy agreed to
respect the Castro

Money Plays An Important Factor
Money plays an important factor in schools decisions for cutting or reducing fine arts. Cutting fine arts
saves money that could be used on academically stimulating programs and bettering Core subject
areas. An Arizona newspaper reported that a school district was able to save one and a half million
dollars when they completely cut their fine arts program (Faller). Fine arts takes up a large portion of
schools budgets, and schools who cut it in its entirety would be able to save that money and set it aside
for academic programs with more measurable results. Alternatively, schools also reduce their fine arts
programs and make it more of an extracurricular activity. This continues the school s involvement and
sponsorship for the arts, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Educators, administrators, and the public might also argue to increase fine arts funding, but only to the
schools who are struggling to meet Core standards, as well as other educational requirements. In
school facilities where there are large demographics of Hispanics and African Americans, students are
less likely to have the opportunity to take art classes (Holcomb). Since these students won t receive as
equal of an education as their peers, then something needs to intervene and equalize their
opportunities with those who have access to these programs. Historically speaking, schools with high
concentrations of minorities have generally had limited access to fine arts classes (Holcomb). This has
been an ongoing problem, and an increase of funding to these schools may be the solution to the
problem. According to a study in Social Science Quarterly , socioeconomic and ethnicity are factors in
music participation in children; whites and Asians from higher socioeconomic backgrounds are more
likely to play an instrument than African Americans or Hispanics (Holcomb). Increasing the funding
for struggling schools may seem like one of the best solutions, but what happens to the schools with
established and succeeding arts programs? Do they receive an increase of funding too? Chances are
no, because these schools will statistically have higher standardized test scores than the struggling
schools.

Evolution of Australian Biota Assessment Answers
a) Discuss current research into the evolutionary relationships between extinct species, including
megafauna and extant Australian species.
Megafauna simply means large animals, in which most have become extinct within the last 20 000 to
50 000 years. The extinction of megafauna was, debatably, due to climate change and human
expansion. Although, Africa still retains some megafauna, such as the elephant or the rhinoceros.
Australia has managed to keep many examples of relict species, some from the time of the megafauna.
These include the Crocodile, Wollemi Pine and Stromatolites.
Megafauna are not direct ancestors of the current animals, rather certain animals both evolved from a
common ancestor. An example of this can be seen in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 1940s, an Australia scientist invented the Platypussary. This was technology that attempted to
stimulate its natural habitat, hoping to breed a pair. In 1943, the first Platypus was bred in captivity,
which gave scientists much research into lifestyle and breeding habits; gestation and pre and post natal
processes.
Another scientific question was that of its body temperature, but with the development of
radiotelementary scientists ideas about this changed. Radiotelementary can record body temperature
and transmit this information. It has helped scientists in understanding whether the Platypus can
maintain its body temperature when swimming in cold water.
Scientists have contiuned to develop their ideas through the research of amino acids, which allowed
them to observe trends between the sequences of placentals and marsupials. Fossils have also been an
important technological development in understanding the Platypus. As well as cell observation,
allowing Scientists to discover the Platypus salt retaining kidneys.
Another huge discovery about Platypus was able to come about because of new technology, the
question of how the Platypus got its food. Using Electron Microscopy, scientists were able to observe
the Platypus bill. The discovery was made that the bill had extremely sensitive touch receptors which
helped the Platypus navigate underwater with its eyes closed,

Berlin Argument Of Negative Liberty Analysis
Analysis of Berlin s Argument of Negative Liberty: Berlin considers negative liberty as the area
within which a man can act unobstructed by others (Stewart, 90). The obstructions contain not only
physical limitations but also human involvement. We should take the example of cab driver within the
automobile who agrees to the region s government tacitly by mere residence and also via enjoying the
ups and downs of the daily life. Now, in this process of driving we cannot say that the friction, gravity
or the climatic disaster are the cause of limiting the freedom of the driver but the actual cause are the
speeds limits, lack of money to buy a vehicle and the driving habits of others. However it should be
understood that in civilized society, there is give and take freedom, which in the case will lead to the
agreeing if most of the people that safety of others produces more of a benefit than the loss of freedom
from traffic laws. It is because of the assumption by them that traffic laws are civil and just since it
produces more greater good. Now, take the other example of money and poverty. Berlin feels that the
poverty can be defined in several ways. But, we need to analyse the human influence, without
personal disability in order to truly consider an infringement upon freedom. Money limits freedom as
it creates strain and economic inequality which in turn, leads to poverty and limits the person s
freedom to make choices. Adhering to a strict sense of the concept of negative freedom, money does
impose upon the inhabitants who cannot obtain the capital to thrive in a barter free society. John T
Bookman provides a vivid picture in that sense. He explain that money opened the doors to an
emergence of economic classes, which strain relations among people and that human relations in the
state of nature have been strained by economic inequality, and a desire to protect property is a major
reason for quitting the state of nature and instituting civil society (Bookman, 364). Now, it is evident
that the notion of negative freedom comes with the cavet that it is impossible to create a fine line from
which a truly free society can be established. Berlin states, we cannot remain absolutely free, and must
give up some

Great Depression Government Programs
The Great Depression was the longest and deepest depression in American history. It started in 1929
and ended in 1939 (Szostak). The reasoning for this would be: Stock market crash, bank failures,
reduction in purchasing across the board, American economic policy with Europe, and lastly drought
conditions. All were Jurassic conditions that led America into this horrid depression (Kelly). The
government however came up with certain acts and programs to help get us out of this depression. The
government programs that helped Americans during the Great Depression were Roosevelt s New
Deal, Federal Loan Act, and the Agricultural Marketing Act. Roosevelt s New Deal was a major part
in helping end this depression. It was a multitude of acts that were passed, such as: Securities and
Exchange Commission, Civil Conversation Crops, Works Progress Administration, National Recovery
Administration, Federal Emergency Relief Agency, Agricultural Adjustment Act, Homeowners Loan
Corporation, Tennessee Valley Authority, National Labor Relations Act, Social Security
Administration, Soil Conversation Act, Fair Labor Standard Act (Great D., New Deal). Although there
is a lot of acts that were passed, there are some that were more important than others. One being the
Civil Conservation Crops
Vass 8
(CCC) which gave those who did have a job, work. By building bridges, cleaning up campsites,
making fire trails, and to construct dams. Putting over 2 million men to work (WPA). The Federal

Essay about Workers Compensation Fraud
Workers Compensation Fraud
Worker s Compensation is a service that provides reimbursement for lost wages to employees who
have sustained injuries from work or work related tasks. It is also one of the services that is most often
the victim of fraud. Each of the three types of fraud, claimant, employer, and provider, is defined by
the same characteristics, outlined by the Ohio Board of Workers Compensation:
#61623; Receiving workers compensation benefits that are not entitled to the claimant;
#61623; Making false or misleading statements with the purpose of securing goods or services under
the Workers Compensation Act;

This proves little if any about the real problem, though, because only about 1,000 claims were
investigated in Kansas over five years (Lorenz), while over seven times that amount were investigated
in New York and California in the same time period ( Insurance Fraud ). Throughout most sources,
though, it is clear to see that employer fraud is the most prevalent and costly type of fraud. Employer
fraud includes a number of schemes used by employers to reduce the number of workers
compensation insurance premiums by underreporting payroll, misclassifying employees occupations
and misrepresenting their claims experience. According to the National Council on Compensation, the
most common frauds include:
#61623; Misclassification of workers. Employers can either classify workers as independent
contractor or misrepresent the work performed, which places workers in a less hazardous occupational
category. Both of these tactics are intended to avoid or reduce premiums.
#61623; Underreporting payroll. Another method of premium reduction is employers not reporting
parts of the work force, paying workers off the books, or creating a companion corporation to hide a
portion of the employees.
#61623; Misrepresentation of claims experience. Employers hide previous claims by classifying
employees as independent contractors or leased

The Iciocultural Effects Of The Mayan Language In Guatemala
The Mayan language is spoken in Guatemala. At this moment there are around five million people that
speak the indigenous language in Guatemala. The Mayan language has been noticed to not be an
actual language (idiomas) but seen to be dialects without consistent and coherent grammatical
structures (Barrett). The Mayan language has had a drastic change and signs of losses of their
language because children in Guatemala have been prevented in learning their language. Mayan
speakers had faced horrible events between 1981 83 causing major damages to their language.
The Mayan people were nomads an example of how the cavemen lived, the indigenous language
never flourished on expanding their language as the years went by. Their society has not been properly
civilized, while the education in Guatemala didn t help the children. Technology, government, and
anthropologists played a big role in the Mayan language. It helped their language to survive and for
the world to learn about their language and understand their culture, living environment, customs, and
beliefs.
The population of the Mayan people was decreasing at a fast rate the reason why was because of the
warfare that was going on in Guatemala. In the article Guatemalan Indian children and the
sociocultural effects of government sponsored terrorisms Margarita discusses the decrease of
population, in Guatemala, the Mayan population felt the worst of a systematic and brutal
counterinsurgency, where over 400 rural villages

President Obama, President Bush, And Bush Essay
Eloquently conveying thoughts to the masses is no simple task. It entails more than just a clever
arrangement of words, or a refined set of diction. Speeches are far more intricate than that. Since
speeches are a profound form of communication that is essentially used to grasp an audience, moving

be the crux figures utilized to dissect the speech crafting and speech delivering procedure. By

effective speeches are in earning the president influential power and preserving their legacy. This
paper will also expose the behind the scene hands that work at writing speeches.

Why Does The Mirror Image Rule Still Apply In Certain...
Why does the Mirror Image rule still apply in certain business scenarios? Why has the UCC largely
discarded the mirror image rule, while it still persists in various parts of the common law? Discuss
whether the complexity of the UCC 2 207 is or is not preferable to the simplicity of the mirror image
rule. Covered by the accepted rules, it is a necessity that the printed composition, offer and
acceptance, make a Mirror Image of one another for an agreement to happen. If there exists dissimilar
agreements and circumstances, indifferent of their relevance, there would exist no deal. Even though
the Mirror Image rule had the benefit of being understandable and not difficult to put into use, it didn t
echo the facts of the current era commercial business. So in Article Two of the UCC, that is relevant to
business dealings, the Mirror Image rule was interchanged by UCC 2 207. That arrangement
acknowledges that an agreement can happen still where the proposal and agreement weren t exact.
Covered by UCC 2 207, all exact and appropriate verbalization of agreement will shape a deal despite
of if it includes unlike conditions except when agreement is purposely created dependent on
acknowledgement to the extra or contrasting circumstances. Additionally, although the persons
arrangements are so entirely different that no composed agreement is brought into existence, UCC 2
207(3) understands that the individuals behavior can however produce an agreement. UCC 2 207

  • 2. Lp In The Construction Industry LB traditionally provides several benefits to the owners. Regarding the monetary viewpoint, for example, the owner can save a considerable amount of money for the project budget if utilizing LB (Shrestha 2014). In addition, it is also simple to use because it focuses on the most crucial evaluation criterion, the bidding cost (Yu and Wang 2012). In the construction industry, especially in highway projects, LB is supported by the legislation for the transparency in the bidding process (Tran et al. 2016). Even though LB has aided, typically, the public owners for decades, it consists of various drawbacks (Ahmed et al. 2012, Tran et al. 2016). As a matter of fact, LB concentrates more on the cost, not quality, accepts that minimum ... According to Sullivan and Guo (2009), it also improved the cash flow and especially the profitability of the contractor up to 8%. BV in highway projects attained promising outcomes with value added functions to the contractor s selection in terms of project performance as stated by Abdelrahman et al. (2008). With collected data from the MnDOT, they obtained the sufficiency of BV in evaluating and selecting the most appropriate contractors. Supporting that conclusion, Ahmed et al. 2012 emphasized the use of BV in the bidding process for highways. As stated in regulations, clients have to procure and deliver construction services within regionally established regulatory parameters. Despite the fact that BV execution associated with the growth of APDMs, which are legitimately being used in 48 out of 50 states, the use of BV in construction is limited. There are a few areas have constituted the guidelines for BV in DBB projects; MnDOT (2012), for example, has established and achieved benefits from the BV guidelines. Many professional practitioners and organizations support the use of BV/QBS for procuring construction services and are lobbying for its continued growth. In the A/E perspective, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) stated the potential of QBS in providing efficient contractor s selection outcomes in terms of cost saving and value engineering ... • 3. Severity Of Xenophobia Understanding the Severity of Xenophobia in Singapore In 2016, it was reported that foreigners make up 40% of the Singapore s population and is projected to increase to 50% by 2030. The influx of foreigners has caused Singaporeans to fear or hate foreigners even more. In other words, Singaporeans are becoming increasingly xenophobic. This is evident in the increase of xenophobic acts or events like the Hong Lim Park protest and Philippine Independence Day. Undeniably, xenophobia is a contemporary social issue in Singapore. Hence, it is important for us to understand the severity of xenophobia in Singapore to come out with appropriate solutions to combat xenophobia. Xenophobia in Singapore Xenophobia was made known to Singapore in the General Elections of 2011. Foreign influx was one of the hot button issues of the general elections, which pertains to the government s liberal immigration and foreign worker policy. Singaporeans believe that the influx of foreigners was the cause of overcrowding, rising property prices and unfair job opportunities for the locals. As foreigners were blamed for creating the major problems of Singapore, it has resulted in tension between Singaporeans and foreigners. This local foreign divide is evident in 2012, whereas a Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the examples shown above, it can be observed that the xenophobic attacks that happen in Singapore are mostly online postings and criticisms on foreigners. When compared to other countries that are also facing xenophobia, the severity of xenophobia in Singapore is quite low. For example, xenophobia in South Africa has resulted in outbreaks of violent attacks among its people, causing many tragedies and death which affect South Africa severely socially and economically. Whereas in Singapore s case, there has not been any actual violent outbreaks; the xenophobic attacks in Singapore happen only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Raymond Chandler s Writing Style in The Big Sleep Essay... Raymond Chandler s Writing Style in The Big Sleep Unique writing style is definitely an essential element in any piece of writing, and Raymond Chandler uses his style efficiently in The Big Sleep. Chandler s style is one that seems to come easily to him and it also seems very natural to the reader, perhaps because there is not a lot of high, eloquent language. Rich in description and dialogue, the characters seem more realistic to the reader as a result of such details and natural speech. Chandler includes many descriptive words, similes, metaphors; yet they are not complicated or ambiguous which may lead to misinterpretations. He also tends to focus on a few major aspects of the characters, repeating those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impression the reader gathers about Carmen from the first conversation she has with Marlowe and the description is that she is immature and very childlike. Contrary to the description of Carmen, Marlowe s description of Mrs. Regan s is one which allows the reader to see she is a more sophisticated and intelligent woman Marlowe meets Mrs. Regan and immediately notices her legs which he believes she intentionally positioned for him to stare at. He goes into great detail saying, The knees were dimpled, not bony and sharp. The calves were beautiful, the ankles long and slim and with enough melodic line for a tone poem (17). Chandler allows Marlowe to quickly notice such things and as a result, the reader feels that the description given is accurate as well as engaging. Upon completion of his conversation with Mrs. Regan, Marlowe leaves the house still thinking, She had lovely legs. I would say that for her (21). Although describing her legs does not seem like an incredibly important part of the plot, it shows how manipulative Mrs. Regan really is. Marlowe knew from when he first saw Mrs. Regan she was trouble and it is obvious he was right since he left the house distracted by her and still thinking about her legs. By describing Mrs. Regan in this way, Chandler successfully contrasts Mrs. Regan and Carmen. The aspects which Marlowe focuses on allow the reader to note Marlowe s impressions ... • 8. The Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking And Novel Risk... Relationship Between Cigarette Smoking and Novel Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease In The United States In a study of the general population of the United States, over 17,000 individuals were examined on the relationship between cigarette smoking and the levels of homocysteine, fibrinogen, and serum C reactive protein. Cigarette smoking and cardiovascular disease have been linked and the topic has not been studied much. Cardiovascular disease was the cause of death in 40% of the United States in 1999. Stroke, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease can also result from cigarette smoking. In the study, there were 4,187 current smokers, 4,791 former smokers, and 8,375 never smokers eighteen or older participating from the years 1988 and 1994. Three thousand people were excluded from the study because their C reactive proteins had little information. This left 16,596 people in the study for C reactive proteins. In the analysis for fibrinogen, 2,000 people lacked the information for fibrinogen. Because the participants in the fibrinogen analysis had to be over 40 years of age, 9350 were left for this analysis. Between 1991 and 1994 (phase 2 of the study), homocysteine levels were measured. Close to 1,500 were missing homocysteine values, so 7,458 were examined. The data for the study was collected through home interviews and clinical examinations. Thus, the high risk group shown in the Hostility Online study could be assessed as meeting some of the guidelines of internet addiction, but not being excessive enough. (Yen, Ju Yu, et al). With the multiple scales and inventories used by both studies to examine if clinical factors contributed to internet addiction, the answer from the first study is that, statistical analyses that included potential mediating variables (the BAI, BDI, and CASS) showed that clinical factors played mediating roles only when aggression predicted IAD and not vice versa . (Yen, Ju Yu, et al). This means that aggression when seen as a symptom of aggression is not bound by underlying clinical factors. Regardless of clinical factors, the data concerning the casual relationship still stands. This is also referenced in the first article when it mentions that, In terms of demographic data, it was confirmed that adolescents in the Internet addiction group had higher scores on the BDI, BAI, and CASS than did those in the other two groups [high risk user and standard user] (Lim, Jae A, et al). Thus, quality has become an important factor in determining what car or vehicle to purchase among consumers. Previous research has suggested that consumers are keeping their cars for longer, so it is even more vital that their car be well built and relatively inexpensive to maintain. Definitely, imported car is better as compared to local car especially in term of quality. This is because imported cars were more reliable and cheaper to maintain than domestic car. This helps consumers to save their considerable money at import car services such as for maintenance and repair over the life of the car. Even the price of domestic car is cheaper than imported car, but it require consumers to spend a lot for maintenance and repair in the future. People can see, feel, and hear love but understanding the theory behind how love comes to be and the purpose behind it has always been a mystery. Many psychologists and sociologists have engaged in the conversation of love, including Ira Reiss. Reiss is a sociologist with a primary interest in love and sexual behaviors. He proposed his own wheel theory of love which can be applied in analyzing the book Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf. This story is about two elderly neighbors, Addie Moore and Louis Waters, and how their relationship flourished from being neighborly to love one another. In reviewing this piece of literature, a person can clearly see the four stages of Reiss Wheel Theory and how they developed at different times. Rapport is the first spoke on Reiss Wheel Theory. The development of rapport encompasses a feeling of being at ease and able to communicate with each other (Starbuck Lundy, 2015). If a couple has similar social and cultural values they are more likely to develop rapport (Starbuck Lundy, 2015). Kent Haruf developed this theory in his book Our Souls at Night. Taking a critical view, a person can see how rapport was engaged throughout the first few weeks of Addie and Louis relationship. Looking at the first few days of their sleeping arrangement people get an uncomfortable feeling but as the story goes on Haruf shows them to be more at ease. After Louis ... The Heian Period, known as the Golden Age of Japan, was a very stable time with the imperial court at the height of its reign, especially in its early and middle years. Go provided a leisurely pastime and an opportunity for casual conversation that was not only entertaining in a stimulating way, but at the same time maintained the cultivated decorum of the ruling elite of the time which were among its most common players: courtiers. Oh the other hand, it is still possible that Kibi sparked the popularity of Go in the court. However, there are many aspects of Heian life that would have facilitated the acceptance of Go. Two unexpected factors of the popularity of Go in the Heian court were the diet and the dress of the courtiers. The diet of the court was poor, causing medical problems that stemmed from malnourishment; and it has been speculated that the diet of the courtiers may have been at least partially responsible for the passivity and pessimism that bulk so large in Heian history and literature (Shively and McCullough 398). Because of this pessimism and lethargy that so plagued the court, it makes sense that a game like Go, that requires no physical activity, became popular. The dress of courtiers would have highly restricted movement, making pastimes that required activity very difficult and therefore impractical. The members of the court wore ensembles that included in addition to [a] short outer jacket and long train prescribed for women on formal occasions, as many as twenty or more identically cut robes... (Shively and McCullough 395). Such an idea of extravagant dress is echoed in many the works of prose that came out in the era. Not all the oils and fats are used for fuel, there put through a chemical process called trans esterification which splits the oils into two parts, alkyl esters and glycerin. It felt more inquiring, rather than being obligated to go to school just because I had to, like the state required us to. Ever since I have been given two field placements, I have been increasingly interested in the teaching profession. My first field placement has been an eye opener for all other rolls in a school. It has showed me just how important other rolls are in a school, and how they can affect and tie into how a student does in a classroom. How did the IC not notice the buildup of Soviet nuclear weapons in Cuba? The information was there despite the best Russian denial and deception attempts. The United States intelligence and military analysts allowed themselves to be deceived by the Russians because they did not anticipate the Russians would station nuclear weapons outside the Soviet Union. Cutting fine arts saves money that could be used on academically stimulating programs and bettering Core subject areas. An Arizona newspaper reported that a school district was able to save one and a half million dollars when they completely cut their fine arts program (Faller). Fine arts takes up a large portion of schools budgets, and schools who cut it in its entirety would be able to save that money and set it aside for academic programs with more measurable results. Since these students won t receive as equal of an education as their peers, then something needs to intervene and equalize their opportunities with those who have access to these programs. Historically speaking, schools with high concentrations of minorities have generally had limited access to fine arts classes (Holcomb). This has been an ongoing problem, and an increase of funding to these schools may be the solution to the problem. • 25. Berlin Argument Of Negative Liberty Analysis Analysis of Berlin s Argument of Negative Liberty: Berlin considers negative liberty as the area within which a man can act unobstructed by others (Stewart, 90). The obstructions contain not only physical limitations but also human involvement. We should take the example of cab driver within the automobile who agrees to the region s government tacitly by mere residence and also via enjoying the ups and downs of the daily life. Now, in this process of driving we cannot say that the friction, gravity or the climatic disaster are the cause of limiting the freedom of the driver but the actual cause are the speeds limits, lack of money to buy a vehicle and the driving habits of others. However it should be understood that in civilized society, there is give and take freedom, which in the case will lead to the agreeing if most of the people that safety of others produces more of a benefit than the loss of freedom from traffic laws. It is because of the assumption by them that traffic laws are civil and just since it produces more greater good. Now, take the other example of money and poverty. Berlin feels that the poverty can be defined in several ways. But, we need to analyse the human influence, without personal disability in order to truly consider an infringement upon freedom. Money limits freedom as it creates strain and economic inequality which in turn, leads to poverty and limits the person s freedom to make choices. Adhering to a strict sense of the concept of negative freedom, money does impose upon the inhabitants who cannot obtain the capital to thrive in a barter free society. John T Bookman provides a vivid picture in that sense. He explain that money opened the doors to an emergence of economic classes, which strain relations among people and that human relations in the state of nature have been strained by economic inequality, and a desire to protect property is a major reason for quitting the state of nature and instituting civil society (Bookman, 364). Now, it is evident that the notion of negative freedom comes with the cavet that it is impossible to create a fine line from which a truly free society can be established. Berlin states, we cannot remain absolutely free, and must give up some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
