Find out how HANA Cloud Platform with all his features can help healthcare. For a Hackaton in february 2015, we have built a solution for helping epilepsy patients. We used the power of HCP by capturing heart rate data (IOT) and let the HANA predictive libraries (PAL) warn us for possible seizures (attacks).

- David Epilepsy is a very common brain disorder. 65 million people are walking around with epilipsy and most of us know someone that has it . Now people with epilepsy have some typical issues that UCB – as a larg pharmaceutical company - wanted to address in this hackathon: First of all: sharing is caring . The greatest relief is to be able to share your pain with a fellow-patient, or someone (like a doctor) that is able to understand what you’re going through . How can we help epilepsy patients to connect to each other, caretakers, and relatives that may be able to help them Second, seizures occur unexpectedly and instantaneously. How can we find ways to allow the patient to alert or inform caretakers or relatives that something bad is coming, or happening? Finally, there’s a lot of ignorance on epilepsy with the public. People don’t know how to react on a seizure and potentially take harmful actions or decisions. How can we inform the public, and how can we guide caretakers to take the right action on the right moment to really help a patient that needs his help badly So our mission was: create digital tools that meet & solve one or more of those challenges !!! 2 simultaneous hackathons at UCB Belgium and in Atlanta Build new digital tools for people with epilepsy and their caregivers Epilepsy is a common serious brain disorder affecting 65 million people worldwide – young and old, rich and poor Need for new digital tools that Enable patients to connect with others Show patients and their caregivers how to get reliable information about epilsepsy Can raise awareness about epilepsy and reduce discriminations

- Wouter/Jeremy/Nico The flexso epilepsy monitor app is not just an app. We created a platform which will connect our patient to several stakeholders who will be important when our patient is in need. For example: with one single sign sended from the app, the doctor, the family and all other relatives can be contacted and will be informed about the medical condition of the patient. The collected information can also be send to the hospitals or universities for research goals.
- Wouter/Jeremy/Nico We developed a mobile app that will monitor the patient’s heartrate, track his location and posibile seizures Besides this data we also ask simple Yes/No question about his lifestyle to corelate with our collected data. With all this data we can predict seizures in the near future. By predicting the risk of a sezure we can give our patient a save feeling. App Mobile tonen. Heartrate monitor – Riskmonitor – Questions – predictive heartrate Analyse on all data, we show the last 30 min and predict 5 mins in the future When we suspect a upcoming seizure the app triggers simple voice commands to relax and reasure the patient. Bvb Sit down, lay down, close your eye’s, We have also implemented an alarm button that the patient can trigger when he feels a seizure striking. We can predict if his feels are correct and reasure him if this is not the case.
- Wouter/Jeremy/Nico Besides the mobile app there is also a Desktop web application for the patien and his relatives. UI App The same infromation as on the mobile app but with the special functionality to share his profile with his relatives. Share button – limited time – doctor information. Complete export of his profile. By sharing his location he will never feel alone again.
- Wouter/Jeremy/Nico For the doctor we’ve created a UI5 app with an overview of all his patients. The doctor can view the same data as the patient on the mobile app. So they are always connected. And will receive notifications if a patient is in trouble or a reminder to make a new appointment
