The document discusses a skills portal created using open educational resources (OER) from various universities. The portal involved searching for and evaluating over 800 OER items, downloading style sheets, creating indexes, and converting documents from Word to HTML for hosting on JorumOpen. Creating the portal required time for quality control, customization for local contexts, and adding local instructions but provided advantages like understanding file structures and CSS. Issues discussed included questions around what constitutes repurposing of OER and whether OER is working as intended.
This document discusses the challenges of managing individual e-journal subscriptions. It notes that e-journals require more complicated management than print journals, as each publisher has different requirements for enabling access. The document then outlines the typical lifecycle of managing an e-journal, including acquiring, providing access, administering, supporting, evaluating, and renewing titles. It also shares the workflow and tools used by the Durban University of Technology Library to manage their 481 individually subscribed e-journals, such as maintaining checklists, using serials vendor websites and reports, and cataloging in their integrated library system.
Richard Willis gave a presentation on using SharePoint Learning Kit (SLK) as an e-learning tool. SLK allows teachers to deliver electronic documents and rich learning resources to students through SharePoint. Teachers can upload content, assign it to students, and then access submitted assignments to grade. SLK integrates with SharePoint by storing resources in document libraries. Best practices include creating a separate site for each class and using libraries to share content between classes. Future improvements may include enhanced reporting, support for larger groups, and one-click self-service assignments.

Journalists play an important role in society by reporting factual information to the public, but recent events have caused some to lose trust in the media. While many journalists strive for impartiality, biases are possible and some coverage has emphasized opinion over fact. Regaining public trust will require media organizations and journalists to maintain the highest standards of accuracy, transparency about possible biases, and clear distinctions between reporting and commentary.

Libraries are rapidly changing and expanding to web-based delivery of content and related access services to cater the information needs and expectations of their modern users.
One approach is to design and develop multi tired architectures that include an integration layer providing programme level services for user level applications such as a portal.
The library portal is a tool to organize information resources and services in a way that supports the users’ needs.
LIS professionals should be aware about portal technology, its applications in academics and usability of the portal which is based on effective content management system.

Partnership Licensing - allowing access to licensed resources Eduserv
1. Allowing students from partner institutions access to licensed resources requires determining if the partnership arrangement allows it according to the licence terms.
2. Publishers may restrict providing access to students in certain territories due to their sales organizations, licensing rights, or desire to avoid reputational damage.
3. Chest licenses are granted specifically to an institution and do not automatically extend to partners as licensing is a private agreement between the publisher and licensee.

Key considerations when mapping your end user experienceEduserv
This document discusses how OpenAthens is working to improve access to online resources for organizations through a single redirector link structure. It notes that individual users need to authenticate themselves as subscribers to access publisher websites. OpenAthens' redirector checks a user's IP address and either directly sends them to the resource URL if on the organization's network, or constructs an OpenAthens authentication URL to log the user in if off the network. This provides a consistent linking method for libraries to use in their portals to seamlessly direct both on and off-site users to subscribed resources through a single URL format.

Nick Wallace, Government Analyst, Public Sector Ovum
Momentum for the adoption of cloud services continues to grow in the public sector as services mature and agencies experience in buying and using cloud services grows. As agencies steadily incorporate various cloud components into their environment, it is clear that public sector organisations are starting to realise the benefits of cloud. In fact if one where creating a “greenfield” service, “in the cloud” would be the default approach. However the reality is that most institutions are not in this position. Most have to manage a legacy environment that comprises aging technology, duplicate, inefficient and inconsistent business processes. Developing and implementing a staged migration to cloud will be pivotal when determining whether the “as-a-service” promise facilitates innovation or undermines organisational integrity

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
What to expect
For the upcoming meetup we are organizing, we have an exciting lineup of activities planned:
-Insightful presentations covering two practical applications of the Power Grid Model.
-An update on the latest advancements in Power Grid -Model technology during the first and second quarters of 2024.
-An interactive brainstorming session to discuss and propose new feature requests.
-An opportunity to connect with fellow Power Grid Model enthusiasts and users.

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-und-domino-lizenzkostenreduzierung-in-der-welt-von-dlau/
