This document provides an assignment brief for a single camera film production unit. The assignment has three tasks: 1. Develop pre-production documentation for a short film including storyboards, script, budgets, and risk assessments. 2. Produce the single camera film applying technical skills learned. Students must continue updating a production log. 3. Write an evaluation of the film production process assessing pre-production, production, post-production, the completed film, and areas for improvement. The assignment is due on April 6th and students can earn grades based on their understanding of film theory and application of technical skills and creativity. Scenario:
Middlesbrough college will be hosting UKCineFest, an annual student film festival. You have
been approached by the organizer to produce a short film for a Single Camera category.
Your film must be no longer than five minutes long.
Task 1 (AC 2.1)
Individually you are required to develop a pre-production file containing detailed
documentation for
your single camera production
Your pre-production documentation will need to include:
- Development of ideas; mind maps, notes, research, draft documents
- Storyboards
- Script (shooting script with shot list)
- Floor Plans
- Script Breakdown
- Budget
- Call Sheet
- Risk Assessments
- Clearances for locations and actors
- Production Diary
Your pre-production documentation will need to be organised and can be presented online.
Task 2 (AC 3.1)
Following your pre-production planning you are required to produce your single camera
production.
You will be assessed on your application of skills using the equipment to produce your single
camera
piece. Please continue to complete your Production Log throughout.

2. Task 3 (AC 3.2)
You are now required to produce a written evaluation assessing the effectiveness of your
production.
This can be produced in an online blog post, presentation or Microsoft word report.
Your writing should include an evaluation on each of the following areas:
- Pre-production planning
- Production stages
- Post-production stages
- Completed film (narrative, acting, directing style)
- Improvements for next time

Make the best possible use of your locations and think about how good
your locations are for recording audio!
The most important things to avoid are:
- Cutting corners by using easy locations, as opposed to
good locations
- Cutting corners when it comes to recording your audio
- Fail to rehearse your actors
- Fail to allow sufficient time for post-production (It always
takes lots longer than you imagine)
