Assignment briefing and mapping to unit:
Scenario:
In 2009, Cleveland Fire Brigade started a tour of schools and colleges in the Teesside area
to increase awareness of the effects of drug addiction with their hard hitting presentations.
Each presentation aims to increase awareness of targeted high risk groups such as young
people, those close to other users and the homeless.
They are looking to update their presentation videos and have approached you to generate
ideas and produce new video content to help prevent drug and alcohol addiction in young
people.
Task 1 (AC 1.1, AC 1.2)
You are required to present an explanation of the requirements of your production,
identifying the sources of information, support and data for the development of your video
production through a Powerpoint, Prezi or KeyNote presentation. This presentation will be
recorded and sent to the client.
You should include information on:
• Type of production
• Finance
• Time
• Personnel
• Facilities
• Locations
• Materials
• Contributors
• Codes of Practise
Task 2 (AC 2.1)
You are required to develop a pre-production file containing detailed documentation for your
video production piece.
Your pre-production documentation will need to be organised and can be evidenced online
or paper based and should include:
• Development of ideas; mind maps, notes, research, draft documents, pitch
• Storyboard or floor plans
• Script (shooting script with shot list)
• Script Breakdown
• Budget
• Call sheet
• Risk Assessments
• Clearances for locations and actors
• Production Log
Task 3 (AC 3.1)
Following your pre-production planning you are required to produce your video production.
You will be placed in groups and a film will be chosen to be put into production. You should
then define your roles, for example:
• Director
• Producer
• Camera
• Sound
• Editor
Your work within these roles should be evidenced through your detailed individual
Production Diary which can be submitted online or paper based.
You will then need to produce a written evaluation explaining how you used your pre-
production to enable you to produce your video.
Your written evaluation should include:
• Pre-production planning
• Production stages
• Post production stages
• Completed film
• Improvements for next time

Contextualisation: Decisions are made during preproduction that dictate
much of the decision making faced later in production. Time is allocated
but fluid when required with realistic time frames.

than you think!

Access Diploma title: Access to HE Diploma (Media Studies) Unit Title and Code: Pre-production Planning Techniques for the Creative Media Industries KJ2/3/AA/09G Assignment title (and number if used): Assignment 1 Pre-production Planning Assignment briefing and mapping to unit: Scenario: In 2009, Cleveland Fire Brigade started a tour of schools and colleges in the Teesside area to increase awareness of the effects of drug addiction with their hard hitting presentations. Each presentation aims to increase awareness of targeted high risk groups such as young people, those close to other users and the homeless. They are looking to update their presentation videos and have approached you to generate ideas and produce new video content to help prevent drug and alcohol addiction in young people. Task 1 (AC 1.1, AC 1.2) You are required to present an explanation of the requirements of your production, identifying the sources of information, support and data for the development of your video production through a Powerpoint, Prezi or KeyNote presentation. This presentation will be recorded and sent to the client. You should include information on: • Type of production • Finance • Time • Personnel • Facilities • Locations • Materials • Contributors • Codes of Practise
  • 2. Task 2 (AC 2.1) You are required to develop a pre-production file containing detailed documentation for your video production piece. Your pre-production documentation will need to be organised and can be evidenced online or paper based and should include: • Development of ideas; mind maps, notes, research, draft documents, pitch • Storyboard or floor plans • Script (shooting script with shot list) • Script Breakdown • Budget • Call sheet • Risk Assessments • Clearances for locations and actors • Production Log Task 3 (AC 3.1) Following your pre-production planning you are required to produce your video production. You will be placed in groups and a film will be chosen to be put into production. You should then define your roles, for example: • Director • Producer • Camera • Sound • Editor Your work within these roles should be evidenced through your detailed individual Production Diary which can be submitted online or paper based. You will then need to produce a written evaluation explaining how you used your pre- production to enable you to produce your video. Your written evaluation should include: • Pre-production planning • Production stages • Post production stages • Completed film • Improvements for next time

Contextualisation: Decisions are made during preproduction that dictate much of the decision making faced later in production. Time is allocated but fluid when required with realistic time frames.
