June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Learning that goes beyond boundaries and restrictions is
aptly termed ‘education’ and we at New Era Public School
strongly advocate it. Unless a student goes out, explores,
and experiences in the truest sense of the term, he/she
cannot be called a student at all. Stepping out into the
real world and experiencing first-hand not only what
has been read in the books but also what the world has
to offer is the characteristic of a complete individual. And
we at New Era Public School strive to achieve that perfect
equilibrium in each of our students. A child entering New
Era is ultimately shaped into this smart, independent and
confident individual when he/she finishes school and
steps out into the world.
To achieve and enjoy this experience, our students visited
Singapore under a program titled, ‘Singapore - Island
State Metropolis.’ Our students witnessed the beauty of
this unique island nation and were taken aback not only
by the natural beauty of the landscape but also at the high
level of technological advancement very evident across
the streets of Singapore.
And what better way to pen down their experiences than
compiling their entire journey spread across those five
magical days into their own‘The StudentTravel Chronicle’?
3. I have immense pleasure in presenting this creation to
you where the students have written down everything
in their own words, elaborating their experiences in their
own manner complementing them with photographs and
anecdotes.
I take this opportunity to appreciate the efforts of our
programme coordinator, EdTerra Edventures, who
organise educational trips that are a perfect combination
of education, adventure and fun. They are a truly
professional group which made sure that our students
explored Singapore thoroughly and most comfortably.
And of course, I appreciate the cooperation of our students
and their parents who supported and participated in this
unique programme wholeheartedly.

4. Message from EdTerra
Singapore is an outstanding destination both from
an educational and fun perspective. EdTerra poured
significant resources in the past year to design and forge
collaborations to make this journey a truly unique and
remarkable learning adventure.
EdTerra puts education first, and our journey, Singapore
- Island State Metropolis, is a prime example of how this
manifests itself on the ground. Our Program Development
Team researched every location, every educational tool
and every possibility, including a research visit to test our
itinerary and to forge tie-ups that would make this journey
a truly unique and memorable experience for students.
Wanting to provide diversity in travel, the students of
New Era Public School, Mayapuri along with the students
of Delhi Public School, Sushant Lok, were taken to a
number of interesting locations, offering unique learning
experiences. During the journey they visited the Jurong
Bird Park which gave them an opportunity to come face
to face with a number of unique bird species. The Night
Safari brought students in touch with animals in their
natural habitat. At the Science Center, students explored
various scientific exhibits that piqued their interest
greatly. Universal Studios kept students engaged in its
high-tech rides and shows, an experience that was filled

with excitement and high adrenaline levels.
This visit to Singapore showcased a wonderful
amalgamation of cultures that is visible in Singapore’s
food, people and religions. The biggest learning, however,
remained the love and respect for one’s nation, visible in
the way of life that people follow in Singapore.
The beautiful photo book now in your hands is the
work of the students who went on the journey. With the
ongoing guidance of trained EdTerra staff, the students
enthusiastically collaborated to author and photograph
this book in its entirety, and we think they have done a
wonderful job.
EdTerra thanks the Principal of New Era Public School,
Mayapuri, Ms. Vandana Chawla, for providing invaluable
leadership that shaped and made this journey a reality.
We would like to express our gratitude to the
accompanying teacher, Ms. Neerja Bhaskar Anand, whose
energy and willing participation made this journey a
success.

in the future. It was very interesting and
entertaining to see the robots doing household
jobs like washing dishes and doing laundry.
The Night Safari encouraged us to preserve
wildlife and save animals. The show portrayed
various animals performing different activities.
We surrendered ourselves to the scenic beauty
of the ocean at Sentosa Island. The experience
we gained at Universal Studios is unforgettable.
It was a place where we had fun but at the same
time we learnt a lot by sharing our views, feelings
and fears with people and we learnt to connect
easily. It is truly said that we go on school trips as
strangers but return as a group of close friends.
The day we landed in Singapore, we were filled with
both excitement and curiosity to explore a foreign
land. Throughout the city tour, our guide Mr. Dan
told us about the history and geographical features
of Singapore. It was quite interesting to know that
Singapore has 17 water reservoirs where sewage
water is treated to make it fit for consumption. It
has never faced water scarcity even though there
are no natural resources of water in Singapore.
Singapore has a unique law which inculcates a
healthy sense of patriotism in every citizen. He told
us that it was compulsory for every male to serve
in the army for at least two years after attaining
the age of 18 and before pursuing any other career
of their choice. On visiting the Merlion, the official
symbolofthecountry,wewereamazedbyitsunique
structure of half lion half mermaid. We came to
know about ‘Little India’, which is a place where no
Indian can miss the essence of their motherland.
The visit to the Science Center taught us some
lifetime lessons. “The Electric Show” had some
mind blowing stunts. Our group member, Ruhee,
volunteered for a stunt in which she was made
to sit in a cage and 3.5 million volts of electricity
was passed through the cage without hurting
her. The futuristic movie on robots showed us

got to know how future belongs to the robots and
artificial intelligence. We wish we could experience
such things in our country, where the excitement
and learning for the students are taken to another
level. We would recommend everyone to visit the
Singapore Science Centre once in their lifetime.
On 30th May, we went to the Singapore Science
Center. The moment we entered the place our
excitement and curiosity knew no bounds. We
had already heard a lot about this institution
and how it promotes the interest of the general
public in the field of science and technology.
First and foremost, we were amazed to see the
Helium and Hydrogen experiment wherein we
observed how a hydrogen balloon gets blasted
when electricity is allowed to pass through it; we
were mesmerized to see wonders of chemistry.
There were many interactive and scientific games
that we really enjoyed. Next, we went to the
Butterfly section, where we got to know about
a wide variety of beautiful butterflies and other
insects and animals. This place was beautiful and
we got to learn new facts about various species.
Different experiments were demonstrated. We
were really excited and thrilled to witness all
those magical tricks. After a wonderful session of
experiments, we were directed to the Omni Theatre
where we saw a movie clip on robots and learnt so
many facts about robots, from how they are made
to how they learn new things, and all about their
functioning. It was very informative and was also

based shops and other parts of the park brought
back many childhood memories, some of which
were overwhelming.
We shopped for mementos and gifts for our
loved ones. Sadly though, good times always
fly by very fast. We exited the park, although not
totally satiated. Everyone was exhausted after
this long day, but it was not over yet. We walked
to our restaurant and then back to the hotel. The
walk was exciting as we lost our way a bit, but this
unexpected venture was a memorable one as we
got time to share our experiences and reflect on
the day we had. Even though the day was tiring, it
was undoubtedly the most joyful day for all of us.
Finally the most amazing day of our beautiful trip
arrived; the visit to the Universal Studios. Everyone
was so impatient to visit this theme park that even
the forty-five minute drive seemed endless. The
first sight of the park made us hold our breaths.
The hype proved to be genuine, the park was filled
with rides based on Universal’s many fantastic
movies. From the most loved ‘Minions’ to the
famous ‘Fast and Furious’, every Universal movie
was showcased through a ride or a show there!
It is every child’s wish to watch their favourite
superheroes and cartoon characters come alive,
and our wish came true.
There were several rides, each offered a
completely different and unique experience. ‘The
Transformers’, ‘The Mummy’ and several others
were just irresistible. We could hear the screams
of people riding the roller coasters. However, the
never-ending lines before the rides were equally
exhausting.
We enjoyed a yummy local lunch inside the park.
After a quick lunch, we headed back to the rides
as we still had more than half the park to cover

other and had a gala time. Then we had to move

heavily that day, the show got cancelled. We were
very disappointed. Nevertheless, we believe that
‘All’s well that ends well’. We got to enjoy the rain in
Singapore, which was an experience in itself for all
of us and we got beautiful memories for a lifetime.
On 31st May, we visited Sentosa Island in
Singapore. It is a man-made island, designed for
fun and recreation. We reached in a cable car, and
it took us 12 minutes to reach the entrance. It was
a thrilling experience. During our ride on the cable
car, we experienced a bird’s eye view of Sentosa
City; we were mesmerized by the beauty of the
place. It was indeed a splendid ride.
At Sentosa, we first went to Madame Tussauds, a
famous wax sculpture museum that was a unique
blend of glitz and glamour. With fully themed
interactive zones and the new “Spirit of Singapore”
boat ride, we clicked lots of photographs posing
with our favourite A-Listers, sports stars and
music legends, and we came face to face with
international icons from Singapore, Asia and
beyond. We even clicked photos with statues of
Obama, Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi and
other actors of Hollywood and Bollywood.
Next, we went to Siloso Beach, which is a
manmade beach formed at the edge of the newly
reclaimed land where we had a lot of fun with our
friends. We jumped and played in water, a few of
us made sand castles; we splashed water on each

42. Secondly, we visited the Jurong Bird Park where
we observed exotic and unique species of birds.
After observing the beautiful birds, we realized
that Nature is full of a variety of colors, and a few
of them we had never even seen before. We also
witnessed two shows where birds and nocturnal
animals were performing different activities. It was
highly fascinating to see the animals and birds
performing in the show so well. We also learnt
about the principle of R’s i.e. Reuse, Reduce and
Recycle. These principles are the ones we should
always follow in our lives to make this planet
a beautiful place to live in. We had a very good
experience at the Jurong Bird Park and the Night
Safari. This trip to Singapore was full of fun and it
was educational too.
In the hustle-bustle of this highly advanced city,
Singapore’s nature and wildlife welcomes visitors
with open arms. We had a good experience at
the two wildlife attractions in Singapore during
our visit to the Night Safari and Jurong Bird Park.
These two parks were very well maintained and
beautiful in their own way.
At the Night Safari, we got a chance to see a variety
of animals. We experienced the tram ride through
which we were able to see different species of
animals and more over, we were lucky enough to
spot the King of Jungle, the Asiatic Lion. Though
we were a little scared, it was still enjoyable. We
were really excited to see the endangered tiger;
it was an unbelievable sight for us. We had an
instructor in each of our trams that guided us
about the place and the animals that were present
there. This was an experience for us where we
were learning without turning the pages of our
book. We have always heard that we should treat
animals with love and care and should not be
cruel to them, and after going on the Night Safari
we realized how important it is to protect and
conserve our animals. All in all, we had a wonderful
experience at the Night Safari.

I am Neerja Bhaskar Anand, the Senior Headmistress (Co - Curricular) and Head of English Department at
New Era Public School (NEPS), Mayapuri. I am happy to share the experiences of my 2017 trip to Singapore
with the students of my school, a journey that I will cherish all through my life. Before embarking on this trip, I
had reminded myself that my role would be that of a friend and mentor to the students. Throughout the trip, I
was conscious of my resolve and worked at it. This trip helped me connect with the young students on a more
personal level. It was a delight to observe and absorb the youthful spirit and enthusiasm for new experiences.
Ours was a cohesive group where respect for each other prevailed upon all disagreements. We ate together
and discussed the city and its treasures during meals. No one used mobiles during these bonding times. My
students displayed immense self-control and adaptability throughout the trip. They rose up to the challenges
without complaining or throwing tantrums. In some sense children were the true leaders imbued with a great
sense of purpose and learning zeal. It was heartening to see students lapping up new knowledge, working on
projects with enthusiasm and displaying a huge sense of camaraderie. I felt as if I had 11 great minds with
me teaching me something new every day. These were the young minds and talents of NEPS!
