Supply Chain Management of Amazon Essay
This paper reviews the supply chain management practices of Amazon.com (AMZN) and highlights
findings in the framework of a Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT) framework.
AMZN opened its virtual doors on the World Wide Web in July 1995 as a web based bookseller and
today offers Earth s Biggest Selection according to the company s 2012 annual report to shareholders.
AMZN s vision statement is to be Earth s most customer centric company for four primary customer
sets: consumers, sellers, enterprises, and content creators. AMZN has organized its operations into two
principal segments: North America and International. Figure 2 below shows AMZN s net sales for the
last three years reported. Figure 1: AMZN Net Sales ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
AMZN serves consumers directly via its retail websites, which offers millions of unique products
across many categories sold directly by AMZN or via its vast network of third party sellers.
Regardless of who is actually providing the product AMZN provides excellent user interfaces,
seamless fulfillment, and world class customer service. Similar to Wal Mart s everyday low price
strategy, AMZN strives to offer its customers the lowest prices possible through low everyday product
pricing and shipping offers.
AMZN fulfills customer orders through US and International fulfillment centers and warehouses as
well as via digital delivery for media products. AMZN s multi tier inventory model also allows for
order fulfillment through partner suppliers and third parties. This enables AMZN to offer a vast
product selection to its customers without the risk of large inventory carrying costs. AMZN s multi tier
inventory model is depicted in figure 2 below. Figure 1: AMZN multi tier inventory model. Source:

Walking Into A Normalized Prison
INTRODUCTION
As you walk into a haunted house, you are surrounded by complete darkness you do not know where
you are, where your friends are, what s going to happen, when someone will jump out at you to scare
you, if someone is following you, or even if someone is watching you. Your pupils dilate and your
heart beat intensifies. You try to understand your surroundings by carefully stepping one foot in front
of the other and extending your arms out to feel for what s around you; you even yell to see if there
are people around to listen to you. This feeling of being lost, helpless, anxious, and scared is how
prisoners feel every moment when they are in prison. They do not know if they are being watched,
who is watching them, from where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the introduction, I have walked you into a prisoner s shoes to help you think about their daily lives
in an isolated and marginalized prison. Understanding their daily lives will allow you to connect to the
prisoner s emotions and feelings on a more comfortable and empathetic level. Here, I have briefly
introduced to you the ideas that will be presented and analyzed in this paper: the invisibility and
visibility, and discipline and normalization. In the theoretical and conceptual framework section, I will
thoroughly define and describe the ideas of discipline and normalization, prison architecture, and
visibility and invisibility within prison architecture, as presented by Michel Foucault, author of the
book Discipline and Punish, to help you better understand my analysis. The analysis section will serve
primarily to analyze the visibility and invisibility of prison architecture to achieve my goal of showing
you how this element of prison architecture fails to create disciplined and normal prisoners. I will
analyze parts of Dominique Moran s book, Carceral Spaces: Mobility and Agency in Imprisonment
and Migrant Detention, and the chapter, Panopticism, from Michel Foucault s book, Discipline and
Punish. I will conclude that by analyzing the visibility and invisibility in prison architecture, we can
see that prisons fail to discipline and normalize a prisoner to be able to reintegrate back into
mainstream

Bourdieu Gender Roles
Bourdieu claims that it is not enough to look at what was said or what happened in order to understand
interactions between people, or to describe a social phenomenon or an event. It is vital to investigate
the social space in which interactions, transactions and events took place (Bourdieu, 2005). Bourdieu
defines field as: A network, or a configuration, of objective relations between positions. These
positions are objectively defined, in their existence and in the determinations they impose upon their
occupants, agents or institutions, by their present or potential situation (situs) in the structure of the

Sociological Analysis Of Goodfellas
The film Goodfellas represents a clear in depth view of achieved deviant statuses within a large
counter culture. The film details the lives of organized criminals, and their roles as gang members. The
film is set in Brooklyn New York during the mid nineteen fifties through the late eighties. This film
expresses socialization, ethnocentrism, social sanctions, and three sociological perspectives. The film
begins with the main character Henry Hill saying As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to
be a gangster , referring to his early idolization of the local gang members. His socialization from
adolescence glorified the mob and its affiliates. He viewed the gang as significant, so significant that
he dropped out of school to begin working for the gangsters earning is achieved status as a member.
His socialization included toughing the kid up . Quoted from Paully during a scene where a gang
member is shot, and Henry rushes to his aid with aprons to suppress the wound. Through the gangs
socialization Henry is taught to be deviant, defiant of social norms, and to follow the mores of the
gang. His defiant socialization of the gang can be seen when Henry is faced with his first charge for

Despite the mindset of ethnocentrism eventually Henry and a few of his gang members had to serve
time when ratted out by a reporter for their crimes. Though it could easily be viewed that the
sentencing to jail was ineffective, social sanctions were still minimally were put into place. From a
perspective of cultural relativism of the gang, they also used a method of social sanctions. This is
expressed when Tommy and Jimmy murders Billy Batts, and Henry is conflicted because there s a
process to killing a top man. The gang members are expected to follow conformity of the gang s
policies, or face negative social

Affluenza Research Papers
Affluent children are usually considered to be at low risk. However, in recent news 16 year old, Ethan
Couch killed 4 individuals and paralyzed a 5th in a car accident just after stealing beer from Walmart.
Couch was driving under the influence with a BAC of .24 as well as Valium and marijuana in his
system. When taken to trial Couch s defense was that he suffered from Affluenza a disorder due to
excessive wealth and parent s lack of attention. These problems consist of lack of motivation, feelings
of guilt as well as a sense of isolation (Klass Valiente ,2015). Affluenza has started to become a
reoccurring topic in the media. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015), Affluenza is a
psychological illness that affects young wealthy individuals. Researchers are interested in exploring
the impact of excessive wealth on a child s development. Researchers plan to observe the impact of
extreme pressures to achieve and disconnection from parents on affluent American youth. Researchers

Highlighting the Microbial Complexity of Foodborne Hazards...
The Microbial Ecology in Food Safety Risk Assessment written by Tom Ross, sets out to highlight the
microbial complexity of foodborne hazards and its subsequent impact on food safety and possible
outbreaks of foodborne illness. According to the author, In a system as complex as the production and
consumption of food, a variety of factors affect both the likelihood and severity of the occurrence of
foodborne disease, often for which little information is currently available..
The author proposes that current risk assessments for foodborne infection, which usually depend
heavily upon numbers of microorganisms present on the food at the time of consumption, present
challenges to industry professionals. As he postulates, the data are ... Show more content on

These depend on both physiochemical conditions of the food, and the condition of storage. He
highlights the main effecting factors to be considered are Aw, pH, temperature and time of storage and
processing, with time being the most important.
The author strongly argues that the ability of pathogenic bacteria to grow or die under certain
environmental conditions is of great importance in risk assessment. It essentially allows us to see
which hazards might occur; what is the likelihood; what is the severity, in biological terms if it does
occur. To predict impact and te exposure dose, microbial growth under a variety of conditions and
stressors much be evaluated. He believes modeling the behavior of microorganisms in the growth/no
growth region is now seen as an important component of predictive microbiology. As he comes back
to throughout the chapter, bacterial pathogens are exposed to a host of stresses during their lifetime, in
particular during food processing. Predictive microbial modeling, he argues, enables estimates to be
made of microbial growth under varying time, temperature and intrinsic conditions or stressors. He
talks again about the importance of predictive modeling as a way to quantify the combined effect of
various hurdles on the probability of growth and define combinations at which growth ceases. The
combination of factors applied in the form of what he

Good Will Hunting is a story about Will Hunting who works as a janitor at MIT cleaning classrooms.
Will is an orphan who grew up in various foster homes and was physically abused as a child. Will is
also an extraordinary mathematical genius with a photographic memory, who enjoys solving math
problems. Will blames himself for his unhappy upbringing and turns this self loathing into a form of
self sabotage in both his professional and emotional lives. Because Will blames himself he is unable to

Self Fulfilling Prophecies There are a couple of scenes in the movie Good Will Hunting that show self
fulfilling prophecies. The first scene in the movie that depicts self fulfilling prophecies is when Will
goes to call Skylar but then does not say anything when she answers the phone. The second scene in
Good Will Hunting that represents self fulfilling prophecies is when Will and Skylar are laying in bed
and Skylar asks Will to go to California with her. Will gets defensive and begins to push Skylar away
and they get into a heated argument. Will is defensive because he is trying to push Skylar away before
she does it to him. Skylar tells Will that she loves him but Will still continues to push her away. Will
ends up leaving but first tells Skylar that he does not love her. The social psychological principle that
is relevant to this scene is self fulfilling prophecies. The definition of self fulfilling prophecy is the
observation that expectations about the future tend to come true due to the fact that our expectations
affect what we think, say, and do and those actions affect the outcome of events and situations . Robert
Merton describes self fulfilling prophecies as the situation where we end up labeling others, and
through this we actually influence their action, and they eventually become

Cavendish, Vermont. On September 13, 1848, Phineas suffered from a traumatic brain injury, which

about seven years, as a coach driver in Chile. He was also worked on a farm before his death. Gage
moved to San Francisco with his mother in 1859. Sadly on May 21, 1860 Gage past away. Neurologist
Antonio Damasio has written significantly on Gage and other patients that he studied on with similar
injuries. Damasio viewed Gage s case as playing a crucial role in the history of neuroscience, and
stated that Gage s story was the historical beginnings of the study of the biological basis of behavior .
Gage s case inspired the development of frontal lobotomy, which now is a psychosurgical procedure
that leads to emotional response and personality traits. On the other hand, historical analysis doesn t
support this claim because Gage s injury didn t have enough influence on the development of this
practice. Gage not only suffered the accident but it had a dramatic impact on his life. There was
criticism of Gage s story including the doubts on accuracy between scientific and popular discourse
from Australian psychologist Malcolm Macmillan. According to Macmillan there was little
information about Gage s personality and habits before the accident. The post traumatic psychological
changes reported while Gage was still alive were less dramatic than later reports had stated. A first
report was printed in Ludlow, Vermont Free Soil Union anonymously within twenty four

The deported Jews formed their own community in Babylon and continue to practice their religion and

is that; she is because she is a well known artist from this day and age. While she sings songs about

Violence In Antigone By Sophocles
INTRODUCTION
In this essay I will be discussing and referring to Hannah Arendt s essay On Violence (1969), Zizek s
essay Violence (2008) and Walter Benjamin s essay Critique on violence (n.d.) in order to look at the
notion of violence in Antigone written by Sophocles through theatrical terms. I will focusing on the
dramatization of some of the events that lead to the ends and the means and refer to the interruptions
of these events (Arendt: 1969:4).
BODY
Concept of Violence in reference to Arendt
Violence is defined synonymously with strength of emotion or of a destructive natural force (Merriam
Webster n.d.). In the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary s the definition of violence is defined as
something very strong and sudden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the analysis of the play text, I will evaluate how violent events bring about change in the text, and
also discuss how other theatrical elements manifest themselves in the play text and its performance.
The chorus frames the actions in the play, which make it theatrical, that is, the dramatization of
Antigone. Drama is a conflict that is active and continuous until it is framed than made theatrical. In
ancient Greece, the plays were performed in an amphitheatre. The chorus would stand on the orchestra
in between the audience and the stage where the actions happened. They would work as a double
agent as they perform on actions on behalf of the audience and actor. They are put in place to respond
to Antigone s and Creon s actions. The chorus also provides the audience with a backgound, and then
they move the story forward by speaking about the king Creon, who enters after their commentary
(Arendt 1969:45). The juxtaposition in the choral work drives the story forward; therefore the voice of
the chorus is that of change which has already been established as violent (Arendt

Do People Respond To Incentives
Do people respond to incentives? What is your opinion?
People respond to incentives (Mankiw). An incentive is something that encourages a person to do
something or work harder (Incentive). It says right in the definition that it is motivating. Since people
make decisions by comparing costs and benefits (Mankiw), when there is an incentive, or larger
benefit, they will make a different choice. When people are shopping at grocery stores and two brands
of cereal are the same price but one includes a prize inside, this prize acts as an incentive for the
customer to buy that brand of cereal. Any time a benefit is available, the chances of that option being
chosen increases. Why would restaurants like McDonalds and Burger King provide

AA/NA Observation Andrea Ross February 15, 2011 Health class For my observation. I attended an
NA meeting. It was in Hemet CA, on a Tuesday night. The building was called Red Dog Group . I had
walked in, and told the lady at the front desk that I was here to sit in on a meeting and observe it for
my health class. She said Of course you can, just wait here for about another 10 minutes and you will
go in with everyone. As I sat there waiting I noticed there were about 7 people waiting for the meeting
to start. There was a movie playing on the T.V. The front offices were blocked off with plastic, ...

taking care of herself. She has one job, and is on the verge of seeking another job. Bills are tough she
said. The instructor told her how happy she was for her, and is glad she took a big step to improve her
life, and is keeping to her goals in life. We all gave advice to each other, especially the people how are

Types Of Social Class And Class Divide
Social Class:
There are many types of social class and class divide that has been happening for many years and is
still happening to this day. The class divide include, the working class, the unemployed, the middle
class and the upper class. Everyone s social class is totally different it all depends on their wealth
status and the jobs that the individuals have in the house hold and how much money that they are
bringing in.
An example of this is: A professional worker, such as an MP who is called Alan Milburn said the poor
, are more likely to get an illness or a serious illness because of them being poor and not being able to
access the right medical treatment they need or they can t afford or get to the service to ask and get

Which include, straight(heterosexual), gay , or lesbian etc. It is yet again against the law to
discriminate someone because of who they are and for who they want to be with as an individual. I
feel , that people should take this seriously as the abuse or contact of discrimination against someone
could go further where someone may end up becoming ill that they have to go to hospital or in worse
cases commit suicide or self harm. Wherever and individual is, where if it s a school, primary school,
workplace or college they should report any account that has happened to them. In some cases, an
individual, can get a higher authority to step in and try and stop this by getting legal help.
Disabilities:
Quite a lot of people get discriminated because they are disabled and need the extra help and support
to be able to get throughout day to day life. A discriminatory act , was put in place in the year 1975
and the quality act was put in place in 2010. These were both put in place, to protect individuals who
have disabilities to be protected from people who are causing them upset.
Health Status:
The health status, is when everyone has the right to visits a health service for help and support no
matter what their situation is. People, have the right to go and seek medical attention If they really
need it and the service will do all what they can to make sure the situation is stable and the needs of
the service user has been met. However, if the NHS for

Evaluate the Significance of Agrippina s Marriages in Her...
Agrippina the Younger s three marriages were significant in her rise to prominence as they all served
her political advancement; protection from enemies, fortune and eventually, power in politics. Her
first marriage was to Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus, a man seventeen years her senior, described as a
wholly despicable character (Suetonius). Her second marriage was to Gaius Sallustius Passienus
Crispus, cut short by his death, but gaining her immense fortune. Her third and final marriage was to
her uncle, Emperor Claudius, giving her the political power she craved, just as her mother did before
her.
Agrippina s first marriage was at the age of 13, to Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus, 30 years old at the
time. Gnaeus was born into a famous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The law at the time perceived their marriage as incestuous, as she was the daughter of Claudius
brother, Germanicus. Despite this, by the assistance of Vitellius (a friend of Agrippina s in the Senate)
appealing their union as commonplace in other countries (even Roman) that the marriage was enacted
in principle and practice. Tacitus says that their marriage in AD49 marked a real turning point as
Agrippina acquired power beyond her wildest dreams.
Claudius, as emperor, was told it was politically necessary to have a partner, upon Messalina s death,
to help function and protect the Principate, one of few reasons for his marriage to Agrippina. It was
Pallas who presented Agrippina s case (as she was an eligible woman) convincingly. Claudius could
not ignore her ambitious nature, the fact she was politically skilled, and importantly; a woman of the
Julian bloodline. Agrippina s motives were concentrated solely on herself, and her son, Nero.
Agrippina married her uncle in hope that Nero would inherit the Principate. She wanted to promote
her son to become emperor (Suetonius), and aspired for political power for herself in regards to the
Principate and Claudius. The power gave her the ability to dispose of any enemies who got in her way.
Not only did she develop a reputation for running the Principate (acknowledging, and avoiding
Caligula s mistakes), she controlled

Balancing Solidarity and Empathy
Going through life pathways you develop a sense of what you want to do with your time and with
your life so, it is asked what is more important to ones personal fulfillment furthermore, what
decisions and values are most important to you? Some believe that being in solidarity has more
advantages with getting tasks done than being around others for example, in the essay The Rewards of
Living a Solidarity Life author Mary Sarton explained that, Human intercourse often demands that we
soften the edge of perception, or withdraw at the very instant of personal truth for fear of hurting, or
being inappropriately present (42). Others argue that having empathy for others can be better for you
and for the world, in the memoir by author Azar Nafisi Mysterious Connections that Link Us Together
, says Through imagination and our desire for rappart we transcend our limitations, freshen our eyes,
and are able to look at ourselves and the world through a new and alternative lens (44). Balancing
alone time and working with others brings out the best in everybody and can be important for ones
personal fulfillment.
One of the arguments in personal relationships and having empathy for others is that empathy is
feeling that you understand and share another person s experience and emotions: the ability to share
someone else s feelings, for example Nafisi says I believe in the kind of empathy that is created
through imagination and through intimate, personal relationships (44). Some

Don t go wasting all your money on those other districts who ll never win the games. Put your money

only a survivor can win. I am that survivor! I might be to clumsy but with my strength, my skill to
fight, and how to fish and for food I will win the Hunger Games. That is how I will survive in this
years HUNGER GAMES. One example why you should sponsor me is i m ruthless. In the past game s

In the past I have carried two kids on my back for 2 miles. This will ade me with gear I must carry and
so I can build a basic sleeping area with logs. Another reason Last year I cut my thumb in half and
didn t feel that I cut it and didn t notice the blood gushing out of my somewhat thumb. That is why
you should sponsor me in this years games. My last example why you should sponsor me is i m good
at fishing which leads to food. In the past games another reason how people have won is by having the
most food to survive on. I have learned how to fish and gut fish so then I can eat them for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner. When I was seven my dad took me and my brother fishing while in Michigan. We
caught about five fish and then my father taught us how to gut them. Then we ate them for dinner and
it was amazing. That s why you should sponsor me instead of those district 10 cheaters. Now you all
think why should we bet on you or even sponsor you your. What happens if you don t get a weapon
and you have to fight someone. Well I have learned how to remove a weapon out of someone s hands

The Components Of The Alloys
The alloys were also plotted along with the elements and its orientations. Here, the alloys were
clustered by K means clustering method to classify the alloys into different clusters. Alloys that
belong to the same cluster have the same symbol. Few best alloys mentioned in Table 2 were plotted
in the figure. In these figures, variables (elements) were plotted as arrows. The arrows represent the
relative contribution of the original variables to the variance along the PCs. In these figures, the longer
the arrows, the stronger are their contributions. Additionally, an arrow orthogonal to a certain PC has a
null effect on that PC while an arrow that is collinear to a certain PC contribute only to that certain

information from the dataset. Figure 28 shows the scree plot for the properties while Figure 29 shows

Promote Creativity and Creative Learning in Young Children
1.1
Creative activities are fun for children, they are suggested to help children have positive experiences
and develop important characteristics and abilities which lead to a sense of purpose and achievement.
Creativity helps children find ways of expressing themselves through the arts, giving them
opportunities to explore different medias. It involves being imaginative and original. Creativity
involves activities such as:
Drawing/painting
Design
Modelling and sculpting
Craft
Creative movement
Music
Role play/small world
Creativity is often more about the process rather than the end project, it is useful for many reasons:

Developing good relationships
Finding our strengths and weaknesses
Developing communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cultural approaches
All children can be creative, but it can be suppressed or enhanced depending on the support of the
environment. Therefore there is the idea that society must be ready for new ideas and innovations.
In practice this approach would ensure that we provide and environment that can be explored and
inhabit creativity.
Role modelling
Children learn from watching and being with adults who are being creative.
In practice this suggests we show in the way we work and think that we are creative flexibility,
problem solving and openly drawing/painting.
1.3
Creativity can support young children s development in a number of ways. They learn how to manage
and express their feelings through problem solving and a sense of achievement with the end project.
Children can build up self confidence by listening to other ideas and working in a team, especially
when using music as they can learn to communicate and with singing it can also help children s
speech. They will learn about numeracy and developing their reading and writing skills and
communicate in a team through creative play which will develop their overall speech and listening
skills. Creativity can help develop fine motor skills by using tools and cutting and materials such as
crayons, paints and sticking etc. Which is important for

Gathering Blue Essay
Have you ever thought about what it would be like not to be free? What would it be like not to be able
to make choices? What would it be like not to be able to do what you want? It s scary to think about
not being free, but even in the world today some people don t even have basic human freedoms. Lois
Lowry shows us in her books The Giver and Gathering Blue what it would be like not to have freedom
and how important it is that we have it.
Kira, a two syllable or teenage girl also a character in the book Gathering Blue, is living with her
mother in a small village. After her mother dies from a mysterious disease, Kira is left orphaned and

In the beginning of the Gathering, Kira hears a clanking noise and can t figure out what it is. She
dismisses it from her mind for the most part and focuses on the singer. At the end of the song, she
notices the sound again and this time sees what it is as the singer picks up the bottom of his robe and
walks down the stairs of the stage. She is horrified by the sight of the man s bare, grotesque feet and
ankles. He has big ankle cuffs and a huge chain dragging behind him. Kira is so surprised that she
thinks for a minute she could have imagined it, but as she sees the fresh trail of blood the singer leaves
behind as he walks inside, she knows she hasn t. When she realizes suddenly and with clarity what it
all meant, (p. 211) she sees that she is not as free as she thought she was in her new life.
Kira also starts to question her freedom when she and Thomas go downstairs to visit the little girl Jo.
Jo is a little tyke who is also and orphan like Kira and Thomas but has an amazing voice. She is being
locked in a room all by herself and forced to learn songs. All she wants is to sing her own songs, but
the Council of Guardians won t let her. Kira starts to see what Jo is going through. All the nice things,
the food, and the comforts are not worth it if she has to give up the freedom she had to weave what she
wants. Kira goes back to her room and cries wishing she could give this all up

The Draining Of Glacial Lake Missoula And The Formation...
THE DRAINING OF GLACIAL LAKE MISSOULAAND THE RESULTING GEOLOGICAL
FORMATIONS
RIZZO, Scott
Department of Geology, SUNY Cortland,Cortland, NY 13045
In the 1920 s, geologist J. Harlen Bretz challenged the current concept of how various geological
formations happened. At the time, geologists believed in uniformitarianism, which meant that geologic
change in the past resulted from the same slow, steady processes at work today.
But Bretz presented evidence that there was at least one exception to this rule namely the geologic
formations of the Columbia River Basin and the Channeled Scablands. He proposed that a glacier
caused an ice dam that blocked the Clark Fork River, creating Glacial Lake Missoula. He thought that
the ice dam would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, he said the source could be a melting glacier somewhere near present day Spokane, but couldn t
say how that much ice could melt so fast. Another geologist, Joseph Pardee, however, had already
identified the source of the flood. It was Glacial Lake Missoula, in addition to a slowly melting
glacier!

There have been at least five major ice ages in the pass one billion years. The most recent was called
the Pleistocene Ice Age, which began about two million years ago. Interglacial periods occurred where
temperatures increased slightly and the glaciers would melt and retreat. During the Pinedale
glaciation, there were two ice sheets. One of them being the Cordilleran Ice Sheet. The Cordilleran Ice
Sheet was comprised of three main lobes. The Puget Lobe, Okanogan Lobe, and the Purcell Trench
Lobe. The one lobe in Northern Idaho, near present day Lake Pend Oreille, was the Purcell Trench
Lobe. When these sheets of glacial ice moved south they caused an ice dam to occur. J.T. Pardee states
that The evidence of icebergs, together with the apparent regency of the lake and the variable height of
its surface, connect this lake with the glacial period, and readily lend themselves to the suggestion that
its dam was of ice (Pardee, 1910) This ice dam blocked the Clark Fork River which is near the
boundary of Idaho and Montana. The water from the river was blocked and began to build up and
formed Glacial Lake Missoula. Water

Walking Into A Normalized Prison INTRODUCTION As you walk into a haunted house, you are surrounded by complete darkness you do not know where you are, where your friends are, what s going to happen, when someone will jump out at you to scare you, if someone is following you, or even if someone is watching you. Your pupils dilate and your heart beat intensifies. Here, I have briefly introduced to you the ideas that will be presented and analyzed in this paper: the invisibility and visibility, and discipline and normalization. In the theoretical and conceptual framework section, I will thoroughly define and describe the ideas of discipline and normalization, prison architecture, and visibility and invisibility within prison architecture, as presented by Michel Foucault, author of the book Discipline and Punish, to help you better understand my analysis. The analysis section will serve primarily to analyze the visibility and invisibility of prison architecture to achieve my goal of showing you how this element of prison architecture fails to create disciplined and normal prisoners. I will analyze parts of Dominique Moran s book, Carceral Spaces: Mobility and Agency in Imprisonment and Migrant Detention, and the chapter, Panopticism, from Michel Foucault s book, Discipline and Punish. I will conclude that by analyzing the visibility and invisibility in prison architecture, we can see that prisons fail to discipline and normalize a prisoner to be able to reintegrate back into mainstream ... It essentially allows us to see which hazards might occur; what is the likelihood; what is the severity, in biological terms if it does occur. To predict impact and te exposure dose, microbial growth under a variety of conditions and stressors much be evaluated. He believes modeling the behavior of microorganisms in the growth/no growth region is now seen as an important component of predictive microbiology. As he comes back to throughout the chapter, bacterial pathogens are exposed to a host of stresses during their lifetime, in particular during food processing. Predictive microbial modeling, he argues, enables estimates to be made of microbial growth under varying time, temperature and intrinsic conditions or stressors. In the analysis of the play text, I will evaluate how violent events bring about change in the text, and also discuss how other theatrical elements manifest themselves in the play text and its performance. The chorus frames the actions in the play, which make it theatrical, that is, the dramatization of Antigone. Drama is a conflict that is active and continuous until it is framed than made theatrical. In ancient Greece, the plays were performed in an amphitheatre. The chorus would stand on the orchestra in between the audience and the stage where the actions happened. They would work as a double agent as they perform on actions on behalf of the audience and actor. They are put in place to respond to Antigone s and Creon s actions. The chorus also provides the audience with a backgound, and then they move the story forward by speaking about the king Creon, who enters after their commentary (Arendt 1969:45). The juxtaposition in the choral work drives the story forward; therefore the voice of the chorus is that of change which has already been established as violent (Arendt ... Figure [ 2 ] Profits of Northern Rock (Northern Rock Annual Report and Accounts) This strategy of originate and distribute model of funding was the brainchild of Northern Rock s Chairman, Adam Applegarth, and it thrived as shown by the tremendous increased in asset size and profits of the banks over the years. After demutualising in 1997, Northern Rock s assets grew each year, and in a span of a decade, it expanded its assets by 6 folds, from $15.8bn to $109.3bn pounds (NR, 2007). Also as seen in Figure 2, Northern Rock has increased its profit by more than 9 folds in the same time period to $395m pounds. Lastly, it also became the third largest lender in, with 18.9%(British Broadcasting Corporation, 2008) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Draining Of Glacial Lake Missoula And The Formation... THE DRAINING OF GLACIAL LAKE MISSOULAAND THE RESULTING GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS RIZZO, Scott Department of Geology, SUNY Cortland,Cortland, NY 13045 In the 1920 s, geologist J. Harlen Bretz challenged the current concept of how various geological formations happened. At the time, geologists believed in uniformitarianism, which meant that geologic change in the past resulted from the same slow, steady processes at work today. But Bretz presented evidence that there was at least one exception to this rule namely the geologic formations of the Columbia River Basin and the Channeled Scablands. He proposed that a glacier caused an ice dam that blocked the Clark Fork River, creating Glacial Lake Missoula. He thought that the ice dam would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, he said the source could be a melting glacier somewhere near present day Spokane, but couldn t say how that much ice could melt so fast. Another geologist, Joseph Pardee, however, had already identified the source of the flood. It was Glacial Lake Missoula, in addition to a slowly melting glacier! There have been at least five major ice ages in the pass one billion years. The most recent was called the Pleistocene Ice Age, which began about two million years ago. Interglacial periods occurred where temperatures increased slightly and the glaciers would melt and retreat. During the Pinedale glaciation, there were two ice sheets. One of them being the Cordilleran Ice Sheet. The Cordilleran Ice Sheet was comprised of three main lobes. The Puget Lobe, Okanogan Lobe, and the Purcell Trench Lobe. The one lobe in Northern Idaho, near present day Lake Pend Oreille, was the Purcell Trench Lobe. When these sheets of glacial ice moved south they caused an ice dam to occur. J.T. Pardee states that The evidence of icebergs, together with the apparent regency of the lake and the variable height of its surface, connect this lake with the glacial period, and readily lend themselves to the suggestion that its dam was of ice (Pardee, 1910) This ice dam blocked the Clark Fork River which is near the boundary of Idaho and Montana. The water from the river was blocked and began to build up and formed Glacial Lake Missoula. Water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
