Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little in 1925 in Nebraska. He was deeply impacted by the death of his father when he was young and his mother's institutionalization. As a teen, Malcolm got into trouble and was eventually imprisoned for burglary. While in prison, he was introduced to the Nation of Islam by his brother and converted. After his release, Malcolm became a minister for the Nation of Islam and advocated for black rights. He made several international trips which shifted his views and caused him to leave the Nation of Islam. Malcolm continued to fight for racial equality and was assassinated in 1965 while giving a speech in Harlem.
