Malcolm X was an influential African American activist and leader. He had a difficult childhood, with his father being killed and his family facing racism. In prison, he educated himself and converted to Islam, joining the Nation of Islam. He rose to become one of their main leaders and spokespeople. He advocated for black empowerment and nationalism, which increased his prominence but also tensions within the Nation of Islam. He eventually split from them and advocated more mainstream Sunni Islam. However, he continued to be an outspoken advocate for black rights and faced threats, being assassinated in 1965.
