Patricia Almeida Ashley argued for expanding the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to be more inclusive and applicable beyond businesses. She proposed a multidimensional, multilevel, and multi-actor conception of social responsibility that considers governance, human rights, labor practices, the environment, and other issues. It examines challenges at legal, social, and ethical levels and involves enterprises, governments, civil society, consumers, and media. This recognizes that CSR requires collective action from many actors working together, not just businesses, to create sustainable societies.
