Webwise is promoting Safer Internet Day 2018 on February 6th to raise awareness of online safety. The theme is "Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you". Webwise will be launching a new resource called "Be In Ctrl" about webcam blackmail and supporting students across Ireland to get involved through activities and a competition. Students are encouraged to share photos of their Safer Internet Day activities and create positive online safety messages using #BeInCtrl.

A day to create awareness of a better internet for ALL users The Theme for SID 2018 is “Create, connect and share respect: A better internet starts with you” Safer Internet Day 2018 will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6th 2018 Over 70,000 young people across Ireland joined the celebrations last year. #BeInCtrl

What are Webwise doing for SID 2018? •Launching a new educational resource – Be In Ctrl •This deals with the crime phenomena known as ‘webcam blackmail’ •Be In CTRL handbook will be free to order or download from February 6th, 2018 •Continue supporting students across Ireland to get involved, celebrate Safer Internet Day and #BeInCtrl

- 7. Activity 1: WYS: Comic strip Be selective about who you become friends with Once you upload a photo, you’ve lost control over where it appears, who sees it, and what happens to it
- 8. Activity 2: Sharing personal information online Think before you share personal information online Take the time to understand the privacy settings on your social networking service accounts
- 9. Which photos are okay to share? Share or delete?
- 10. Which photos are okay to share? The Granny Rule is useful when trying to decide if a picture should be shared online. If you wouldn’t show a picture to your granny then it probably shouldn’t be online!
- 11. When photos go viral Within minutes a photo can be shared with thousands of people online! Report photos you think might upset a friend or get him/her into trouble
- 12. Agree an online code Bullying won’t go away if we do nothing but it can if you do something about it! It is up to us all to make sure that there are no more tragedies.
- 13. Activity 3: Debate the issues Privacy settings online give you control over who can see what you share online Once you share an image online it’s there forever No one should take or share pictures of you in places where you expect privacy

Report photos you think might upset a friend or get him/her into trouble It is up to us all to do something about cyberbullying!
