Shutter Speed and ISO

Understanding Shutter Speed

The shutter is like a
curtain, in that when it is is
closed it covers the
camera sensor.

When the shutter button is
pressed the “curtains”
open lit is the allowed to hit
the sensor to create an
image.
Fast Shutter Speed

A fast shutter speed is one with a big denominator.

1/2000 is the quickest shutter speed

Ex) 1/1000 is faster than 1/30

To freeze a movement in an image you would need a
fast shutter speed.
Fast shutter speed: 1/2000
Slow Shutter Speed

A slow/long shutter speed is considered a shutter
speed of 1/60 or smaller.

You would use a fats shutter speed when you want
an image to blur.
Understanding ISO
The ISO is the level of sensitivity in your
camera to available light.
ISO is measured in numbers
Higher numbers mean more sensitivity, as
well as more of a grainy image.
High ISO is used in dark lighting conditions.
ISO is measured in 100, 200, 400, 800 and
1600.
