Activity One
Time : 1 hour
Technique : Patching
Language Focus : Verb in simple past tense
Teaching Aids : Picture cards of jungle, characters and items from the story.
Bluetak
1 Introduce the characters. Let the pupils assign sound of the characters. For
example, the fairy will sound ‘lala’ with a low soft tone. While teacher tells story,
pupils will sound the characters whenever the characters appear.
2 Paste the enlarge scenery of a jungle.
3 Teacher tells the story using the patching technique. Memorizing the story will
be at advantage because teacher needs to navigate around the storytelling.
4 As the story progresses, teacher will stick and remove picture cards when
necessary.
5 Teacher will write the past tense verb on the board whenever she tells them.
6 The meaning of the verb need not be explained while storytelling. The follow
up activities will centre on the verbs.
Follow up
1 With the list of past tense verbs on the board, teacher divided it equally
among the groups.
2 Each group will write its meaning and write simple sentence.
3 Later the group will present in the following manner:
a. The verb in past tense
b. Making action/gesture to show meaning for the others to guess.
c. The sentence will be presented in a poster sheets and pupils will do a
gallery walk.

Language Focus : Short answer questions
Teaching Aids : Lyric card, sound cards, Mini Whiteboards
1 Teacher sing a song and pupils are encouraged to sing along by reading the
lyric card shown by the teacher.
2 Teacher tells the story. In between teacher shows sound cards to be sound
with the pupils.
Follow up
1 Teacher asks comprehension questions from the textbook in the following
manner:
a. Ask question 1, pupils write answers on their mini whiteboards.
b. On the count of 1, 2, 3! Pupils show their answers.
c. Teacher discusses the answers.
d. For weaker learners, teacher may provide some answers to choose
from.

Where to use the cards? After reading one section, teacher shows the cards.
A long time ago, there was a country called
Langkapura. One day the king died of old age.
His son, Prince Fariz, was to be the new king.

father’s death. He locked himself in the palace
and refused to meet anyone.

seem to have a ruler. Jamal, the Chief Minister
came up with a plan to persuade the prince to
return to his throne. He wrote down his worries
and concern about the prince and his country on

outside his room. Teacher shows the

He decided to investigate. He put on old clothes
and went out. He saw three men whispering
together. As he listened, he realized that they
were thieves. They were planning to steal from
the Chief minister’s house. Quietly, the prince
asked the thieves whether he could join them.
They agreed.

guards at the Chief Minister’s house. The first
thief, Kimal, said he could hypnotise the guards.

As they were searching the house, Prince Fariz
found a piece of paper on the table. He quietly
kept the paper in his pocket. The four of them
went their separate ways after they divided the
loot.

papers. Jamal calmly explained to the Prince that
it was all a plan to help him be aware of his duty
to his country.

Jamal then called the three thieves,. They remove
their handkerchiefs from their faces. They were
the palace guards, Kimal, Kudin, and Kaduk!

man and a very clever advisor. The wise and kind

1 Teacher brainstorms on the item seen in every picture before reading the story. Accept pupils
respond and recast when necessary.
2 Teacher reads the story with expression using the Kamishibai frame.
3 Pupils answer short questions by rearranging the tans.
Follow up
1 Pupils review questions and answers.
2 Pupils talk about the secret shape. Suggest patterns whenever appropriate.
How to make Kamishibai Frames
1 Each frame will have a picture on the front and the story written at the back.
2 Teacher will show the picture first and read the story. Teacher may or may not show the story.
3 Teacher will go through the story one frame at a time.

Heng. Even though the boy
was poor, he loved reading.
Through reading, he found
happiness and joy.
