3. HISTORY
The word Shell first appeared in 1891, as the trademark for kerosene
shipped to the Far East by Marcus Samuel and Company.
The word was elevated to corporate status in 1897, when Samuel
formed the Shell Transport and Trading Company.
The first logo in 1901 was a mussel shell, but by 1904 a scallop shell or
pecten emblem had been introduced to give a visual representation of
the corporate and brand name.
When the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and Shell Transport and
Trading merged in 1907, the latter’s brand name and symbol (Shell and
the pecten) became the new Royal Dutch Shell Group.

Abundant storage capacity in eight separate tanks and the
central location of the plant at Wesseling / Germany ensure a
reliable and quick supply to the European market.
DME is transported in dedicated tank containers and
dedicated truck fleets at highest technical standards.
Shell only works together with experienced and certificated
DME transport companies to ensure a reliable logistic chain up
to your production facilities.
Our logistic partners offer fast, reliable and cost efficient
intermodal routes per truck, train or ferry in any combination
to meet your demand.

7. GLOBAL GROUP OF ENERGY
AND PETROCHEMICAL
Our operations are divided into four businesses: Upstream, Integrated
Gas, Downstream, and Projects & Technology.
In Upstream : we focus on exploration for new liquids and natural gas
reserves and on developing major new projects
In Integrated Gas: we focus on liquefying natural gas (LNG) and converting
gas to liquids (GTL) so that it can be safely stored and shipped to markets
around the world.
In Downstream: we focus on turning crude oil into a range of refined
products, which are moved and marketed around the world, industrial and
transport use. In addition, we produce and sell petrochemicals for industrial
use worldwide.
Shell’s oil sands mining activities in North America are also part of the
Downstream organization.
