Shall We Dance Cultural Differences
Studying film is one of the best and most engaging ways to learn about another society's culture.
Films can provide insight into interactions between people, daily routines, food, and workplace
behavior. Five films that have showcased several different aspects of Japanese culture are Shall We
Dance?, Tampopo, Densha Otoko, Mr. Baseball, and A Taxing Woman. All of these films were
produced in Japan with Japanese creative teams and directors except Mr. Baseball, which is an
American–made movie and is primarily in English. However, it, as well as the other films, still
provides a look into several different cultural and social differences between Japan and the United
States. Shall We Dance? highlights the differences between the United States ... Show more content

Otaku, which comes from the Japanese word for home, describes a nerdy individual who is more
engaged in their passions, usually technology, manga, or anime, than the world around them. Manga
and anime are not as popular in the United States as they are in Japan, but they are becoming more
well–known thanks to properties like Naruto and Attack on Titan. The American version of an otaku
is more focused on comics, like Batman, or movies and television shows, such as Game of Thrones.
Additionally, both young people in the film must commute by taking the train, which is more
popular in Japan due to the widespread and efficient public transportation system. In one scene in
the movie, the two can be seen running to the train at night in order to make it for their ride home
because the Tokyo trains stop running at night. This is different from the subway system in New
York City, which is a 24–hour service and never stops running unless there is maintenance or an
emergency. As a result, people in Japan must be prepared to get on the train at night or risk being
stuck downtown until the next morning, where in New York, people do not have to worry about the

Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth Essay
Books have that magical power that can take people from reality, and they help make our minds
jump into a world full of fantasies. It can make people forget about their worries and engage us into
deep meaning and thoughts. Some books I have read has made me realize that my life is not as bad
as some of the other people in our world. I need to applause to the ones who have suffered infinitely
many times greater than I could ever imagine. Over the course of my high school career, there were
3 books that caught my attention which are Looking for Alaska, Bed Number 10, and The Geeks
Shall Inherit the Earth. Looking for Alaska by John Green has interested many people about "The
Great Perhaps" that it focuses on. The "Great Perhaps" is the idea that there is ... Show more content

The book takes focus on 8 main characters with different identities. Each of them has their own
uniqueness and personalities that make them special. The uniqueness has a major plague on how
they are viewed under the scopes of other people's eyes and judgements. This book helps me realize
that there are always people out there who are not supportive and are out there trying to bring us
down. Society has a very negative view of people who are different, but those who are different and
stand out from others are not only going to be successful, but are able to persevere through the worst
of the bullying, teasing, and bashing and hurtful comments. Those who conform will grow up to be
not as successful or bright compared to those who have their own ideas. I could definitely relate to
this. I knew many including myself who were bullied because we were considered different and do
not follow what society expects of us. But we know that all of this will not matter in the future; what
makes us happy and what we do will help us later in life since we are different and can be more
creative than the generics who

The Trumpet Shall Sound
The Trumpet Shall Sound by George Frideric Handel and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by
Claude Debussy are both different but very well done pieces of music. The Trumpet Shall Sound
was composed in 1741 and is known to many people as the "trumpet aria" or oratorio because in the
piece there is a main trumpet with a singer. However in Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, there is
no singing or voices present as it is an all–instrumental piece that was written in 1894. With the time
period difference between both pieces, it is definitely shown how music changed from 1741 to 1894.
While both pieces were written and composed in different time periods, the genres of both are
different. The Trumpet Shall Sound's genre is simply classical music ... Show more content on

In the symphonic poem by Debussy, I mentioned that it sounds like a story is being told. After
listening to the song many times I can imagine a guy on a spring day walking through the woods
where he falls asleep into a deep dream, which would explain the dreamy emotion at the beginning
of the song. In his dream he goes through a scary situation that he has to get himself out of. This
resembles the crescendo or the climax of the dream at approximately three minutes, fifty–five
seconds. Then he eventually gets through the battle and wakes up from his horrible dream towards
the end of the song. At the end of the song the orchestra is more peaceful that it was during the
middle. However a classical music piece would differ from this. In Handel's classical music piece
there is not a storyline feeling to the way the orchestra or singer is playing. Although it resembles an
opera, it is not because it is neither dramatic nor there is any impersonations or speaking involved. I
personally feel that the way that the orchestra and singer are playing is to convince the listeners of
something by singing and playing in a very powerful

Summary Of And The Soul Shall Dance
The story of And the Soul Shall Dance is a play of Japanese immigrant cultural. In the deserted area
of America in the 1935's one family in particular has been able to make the best of their situation
and kept the upmost happiness in their family. While another family consist of a very abusive
husband to his wife Emiko. Emiko fights her way to get back to Japan where her family and true
love awaits her. During this time the great depression left a sense of poverty and relations between
Japan and the US which turned rancid leading to Japanese Americans and laws that restrict them
from their rights of property. And the Soul Shall Dance "refers to a line in a song Emiko sings about

"It's moody, deals with love, passion, jealousy." (Arkatov, 1986) Her play which was originally
inspired by a face box and Memento she described it as "the story of "two women, who as girls
battled over the same man. Now, 30 years later, the one who got the man returns––as a widow––to
offer the memento to her old girlfriend." (Arkatov, 1986) After she had been inspired she then puts
on a story of her own which unfolds between many emotions. She begins to remember the time in
California law forbade Japanese immigrants to own their own land. Yamauchi then goes into detail
about "Farmers who had come to the United States in search of a better life were obliged to sign
two–year leases on the property they cultivated." (Holden, 1990) Many families found themselves
moving from farm to farm seeking a home with shelter and food. She goes into detail about "Their

Research Paper On Shall We Dance
Shall We Dance is a 1996 Japanese movie directed by Masayuki Suo. It follows the story of Mr.
Sugiyama, a depressed accountant working in Tokyo. On his commute home from work one day, he
decides to start taking ballroom dancing lessons after seeing a beautiful woman in the dance school's
window. He later comes to truly enjoy dancing and finds new happiness in ballroom dancing and the
new friends that he makes. The film showcases several aspects of Japanese culture, including the life
of businessmen, or salarymen, and the intricacies of relationships between Japanese couples. Mr.
Sugiyama is a Japanese businessman in a large city, which is a common profession in Japan, and his
wife is a stay–at–home mother. Women who decide to stay home in Japan are more ... Show more

Sugiyama and his wife sleep in two separate beds located in the same room instead of sharing a bed
like the majority of couples in the United States would do. Couples in separate beds were also
regularly found in American–produced movies from the 1930s to the 1960s; however, this was
because of American film censorship laws, known as the Hays Code, that declared it was too
scandalous to show a man and a woman sharing a bed even though they commonly do in America.
This law was changed in 1968 and now American couples are portrayed as sharing the same bed as
they usually do in reality. Mr. Sugiyama and his wife being shown in two different beds in the film
is not the result of a Japanese film law, but is instead a common trait of Japanese couples, who are
known to have two separate beds in their homes. This could be because of comfort, especially for a
couple in which the husband works late, such as Mr. Sugiyama on some nights. Sleeping in separate
beds would help to prevent his wife from waking up after he gets home from work or dance
practice. It may also be because of a lack of closeness in their marriage, as shown in Mr. Sugiyama's
sadness and his desire to hide his dancing from his

Summary Of We Shall Not Be Moved
In his book We Shall Not Be Moved, Robert A. Pratt writes, "...blacks clearly understood, perhaps
better than other Americans, that the defeat of Hitler and Mussolini would have an impact that
reached far beyond the battlefields of Europe...blacks pursued a "Double V" strategy: victory at
home as well as abroad (1)." Although the passage of the 14th and 15th Amendments during the late
1800s had technically granted African–Americans citizenship and voting rights, they were still
forced into subservient positions in society by white Americans who refused to acknowledge the
former's equal rights as citizens of the United States. They were bullied into not voting by
Klansmen, forced to sit in segregated sections of restaurants and busses, and not given ... Show

When Hunter and Holmes arrived to register for classes, the students and faculty of the University
did their best to extend unwelcome to the newcomers. Ernest Vandiver, the governor at the time,
even went so far as to shut down the University; two days later, the same judge that ruled in favor of
Hamilton and Holmes overturned the governor's decision, and the University was opened again (91).
Holmes was able to live off–campus, but due to school policy, Hunter was not; consequently, the
University placed her in her own private suite in one of the dorms, "where she would have as little
contact with white students as possible (91)." The night after the pair's first day of classes, students
staged a massive riot in front of Hunter's dorm, throwing bricks and firecrackers, setting a fire in the
woods, and chanting derogatory slogans (94). Authority figures refused to do anything to stop the
riot at first, but were forced to when it got out of hand. Hunter and Holmes were suspended after the
riot "for their own safety", but were eventually reinstated as students (94). Even after the shocking
violence that occurred a few days earlier, the climate at the University still had not changed.
Klansmen stalked Hunter at her dorm and the majority of students refused to socialize with her,

The And Their Soul Shall Be As A Watered Garden
SPIRITUAL GARDEN
"... and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all."
Jer. 31:12
The analogy of a spiritual garden has long been used to explain our role in the creative process of
Life. Jesus used it extensively in his parables, and New Thought teachers have also used the analogy
of a concept as a seed of thought. Ernest Holmes carries the allusion further, comparing a gardeners
care of the soil with caring for one 's soul. Just as the soil is a field wherein the creative intelligence
of Life works, so also is your soul a field of creativity and intelligence. It is here that the Life of God
flows through you, becoming for you that which It can become through you, according to what you
believe about yourself. Just as a garden plot exists within the whole of Nature, what we call our soul
is our use of the universal Soul of Life, for there is no separation within an infinite Life. Our life is
the Life we call God. Your soul is a spiritual garden within the perfect nature of God. Your garden is
creative because it is the nature of Life to create. Your thought is creative in the same way a seed is
creative: it provides the limits through which the limitless Life is expressed.

We Shall Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that, "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must
be demanded by the oppressed." During the time period (1850s) in which Frederick Douglass gave a
speech entitled "The Hypocrisy of American Slavery," slavery was still a prominent feature of
American society, especially in the Southern States. Douglass, like many others, was an abolitionist,
someone who advocates the abolition or ending of something, such as slavery. Douglass's speech
was intended to shine a light on what he called the hypocritical practice of slavery within the United
States of America. Lyndon B. Johnson on the other hand, was the 36th president of the United States
of America (1963–1969), and he served during a period in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In "We Shall Overcome," Johnson also employs pathos when he asserts "...we are met here tonight
as Americans – not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that
problem." By using restatement of the phrase "we are met here as Americans," Johnson develops the
literary device of pathos by eliciting feelings of patriotism within his audience. The feelings of
patriotism in turn call for compassion based on equality from Johnson's audience. In addition, by
saying the term "American," Johnson's audience would be able to realize the nature of the treatment
of fellow Americans (African Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr.) and possibly lead to
change. Overall, the application of pathos by Douglass and Johnson sparks emotions that can lead to
societal transformations. Douglass and Johnson use parallelism, which is the use of components in a
sentence that are grammatically the same, and they also use anaphora, which is the repetition of a
word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses, to further their arguments to affect change in
their communities. For example, in his speech, Douglass, when speaking about what African
Americans do, states "...digging gold in California, capturing the whale in the Pacific, feeding sheep
and cattle on the hillside..." which is parallelism due to the structure of the phrase, beginning with a
verb and leading

Thou Shall Not Judge
Introduction: I never liked the feeling of being judged. I hated the looks people gave me. So when I
got older I promised myself that I would accept any and everyone who I came across, no matter if
they were good or bad. But as I got older it became harder and more difficult. I would find myself
looking down at certain people. What happened to me? Judging became second nature, and it always
left me with a bad feeling, in the pit of my stomach. Then one day at church, my pastor said
something that hit close to home. He told me that in Matthew 7:1 Jesus commanded, "Do not
judge". He said that it's not the deed of judging, but the manner with which we do it that God is most
concerned about. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged" (Matt. 7:2). His words
hit me hard. Who am I to judge? God, is the only one that has the right to judge anybody and once
the rapture comes he will make sure every single one of us will be judge correctly by how we follow
him. Our pastor went on to further explain about the judgment seat of Christ. Since Jesus also
commanded us to do good works, once the rapture comes all Christians will be caught up in the air
by Jesus and taken home, by Him, to Heaven. Then we will be judged at the great white throne of
judgment, following Christ's millennial reign on earth. So while we still have time left on earth we
should love one another and follow in Christ's footsteps.
Part One: Paul told the Christians in Rome not to judge one another

Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the
grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable.... To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the
almost–blind you draw large and startling figures. –Flannery O'Connor, "The Fiction Writer and His
Country"1 Long before the likes of Raymond Carver, George Saunders and Lydia Davis, Flannery
O'Connor was writing biting, grotesque gothic tales, scattered with strong religious and moral
overtones. Her symbolic stories contrasted characters in existential extremes in simmering
situations. In O'Connor's precise and charged worlds, where something is always about to happen,
she writes like she's sucking oxygen from a room. Ultimately her work is deeply psychological, but
she was the first to say that was not her interest and on more than one occasion was concerned about
her work's misreading.2 The Lame Shall Enter First 3 is a fine example of her deeply conflicted
morals and beliefs, seeing human nature and society as innately corrupted, with redemption as the
only way to alleviate suffering. Using psychological theory to explore the themes, this analysis
mirrors Flannery O'Conner's own conflicted short literary life. She died of lupus aged 39 having
written two novels, 32 short stories and the occasional review and essay. The Lame Shall Enter First
is a disturbing tale told from the point of view of Sheppard, a counsellor at a local reformatory,

Hades Shall Not Prevail Against It
The Church The Church is a very important part of Christianity. It is more than just a building, it is
the people that are in the building. It is a place of fellowship and for all to worship God as a family.
Without the church, it would be very difficult for Christians to grow in their walk with Christ and
have fellowship with other believers on a consistent schedule. The church is so important that God
has promised to preserve it. Matthew 16:18 says, "on this rock I will build My church, and the gates
of Hades shall not prevail against it" (NKJV). The Church began after the death of Christ, it is both
the body and the bride of Christ and the purpose of the church is to worship God, teach believers
and spread the gospel to the world (Davis). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three purposes are to worship God, to educate and instruct itself, and to spread the Gospel to
the world (Davis). The Bible commands believers to worship God in John 4:24 when it says, "God
is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (NKJV). God also instructs
the church "to equip His people for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up,
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God" (NIV). This instruction
from God is to teach and instruct Christians so that they can be confident in their faith and learn
more about God (Davis). Christians are also taught so that they can teach and help other Christians
to grow in their faith. The last main purpose of the church is to evangelize the world and share God's
word with every person so that all people have the opportunity to accept Christ (Davis). This is
known as the "Great Commission" and it is found in Matthew 28:19–20, "Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirt, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (NIV). The Church would not
exist if Christ did not come and die on the cross. It is by His blood that all can be saved and worship
God as a church family. As a church, Christians are the body of Christ and He is the head. The
church is also the Bride of Christ, which symbolizes

The Lame Shall Enter First Summary
The short story, "The Lame Shall Enter First" by Flannery O'Connor, has very many meanings
within the text that can be brought up into discussion between critics. A recent widower, Sheppard,
is dealing with his grieving son, Norton, the best way he knows how. The story is based around
Sheppard attempting to take in a very less fortunate fourteen–year–old boy out of good faith, when
Sheppard himself does not acquire much faith himself. The story as a whole is simply ironic due to
the hard fact that Sheppard's true intentions are to help people, but does not make any real progress
with helping anyone– including himself. The false impression that the character Sheppard has that
he is doing a good deed by helping out someone in need seems to backfire again and again for
countless reasons. Rufus Johnson, the child Sheppard is so infatuated with and wants to bring into
his home, refuses any help. Johnson has a clubbed foot, has a record with the police, along with a
140 I.Q score. The father is almost sickened by the fact that his son, Norton, is so ... Show more

There become many encounters with cops showing up at Sheppard's home since the boy has stayed
there, Johnson even lifts a bible from a discount store to rub it in Sheppard's face (O'Connor). Rufus
mocks Sheppard many a time, but he convinces himself that Rufus is just hesitant to show any
emotion and smiles anyway. Rufus Johnson's comment about Sheppard, who in his own mind is
motivated only by an altruistic love for people, is striking for the way it clearly identifies the
egregiousness of Sheppard's bankrupt humanity: "He thinks he's Jesus Christ!" (Behling 94).
Sheppard isn't much of a religious person, but he tries to be a godly man. Never once does Sheppard
question whether Rufus is worth trying to save, but he also doesn't question how the whole situation

I Shall Be A Good Person
There is but one chance at what humankind calls life, and while many events and people will
influence a person over the course of their life, in the end it is choice that makes a person what they
are. Each day, we're given the ability to say, "Today, I shall be a good person, shall deal honestly and
forthrightly with my fellow, and shall honor the commitments to which I have bound myself." No
one is ruled by the past, nor bound to a certain future. These choices we make are based on our
morals, ideals, ethics, and goals. If a man is to be honest in dealing with others, he must first be
honest with himself regarding the sort of man he is, and the sort he wishes to be. To be anything else
leads to immoral actions and falsehoods.
As I grew up, most Sundays you would find me in a Baptist Church, Missionary Baptist to be
precise. The one that nearly my entire family going back at least four generations has attended, that
my mother still attends, and that lies not two hundred feet from where I sit typing. Growing up in
rural Arkansas my exposure to different religions was nearly nonexistent, and although I sometimes
attended a different denomination of evangelical Christian church, I have never stepped foot inside a
mosque, synagogue, or temple. While attending the University of Central Arkansas I was exposed to
numerous different beliefs, but by that point in my life I would have described myself as
'nonreligious'. If asked today, I would say I am still Christian, and

We Shall Overcome Summary
The article, "We Shall Overcome: Promoting an Agenda for Integrating Spirituality and Community
Practice" by Anthony J. Hill and Linda Plitt Donaldson (2012) detailed the role of spirituality in
social work community practice and investigated previous research conducted integrating
spirituality into community practice. The article described the relationship between organized
religion and community outreach, since many religions offer assistance to needy members of their
congregations and communities.
An important claim of the authors was the lack of studies conducted about incorporating spirituality
into community practice. Spirituality has been studied at micro levels of social work and been found
to be influential in helping individuals, therefore, it is possible that it would be beneficial in macro
practice as well, furthermore, studies should be done to determine spirituality's efficiency in
community practice (Hill & Donaldson, 2012).
This article is valuable to social workers, particularly macro level workers because spirituality may
not be considered a part of community or macro social work ... Show more content on

Social workers should be aware of this fact and give religious leaders information on how to help
these individuals and inform the leaders of resources available to the victims. I spoke to a pastor
when I was contacting an organization to distribute the domestic violence survey to, and he said
domestic violence was an issue he and his wife were very passionate about. Spirituality is also
connected to the community and organizing social movements. Spirituality can help motivate
individuals towards a common purpose or goal, and religious organizations have assisted
communities in meeting needs for social change and can be an ally of community practitioners (Hill

"The Lame Shall Enter First", Flannery O'Connor's short story, is founded in and embodies
compassion. Growing up, especially throughout my high school experience, we were told to care for
the poor and vulnerable, which is what Sheppard in this short story focuses on. Sheppard is a father
to Norton and also takes on a role as a father figure to Rufus when his grandfather passes. Rufus, a
man who claims to follow God, unjustly lives in Sheppard's house, disregarding the compassion
Sheppard provides him. Within the duration of time Rufus stays at the house, Sheppard places and
focuses an abundance of compassion he carries with him and directs in to Rufus; he neglects his
own son Norton. Out of context, it seems as if all that Sheppard does for

Although they discuss the same topic, SH5 takes a different approach when describing the
firebombing in Dresden. SH5 has science–fiction infused in the novel, while Vonnegut's essay is
more straightforward when talking about the events that occured in Dresden. And although both
works talk about the bombing, "Wailing" better describes Vonnegut's goal for writing about his time

no discretion in the awarding of the permit, and there is no demand on the applicant to present or

states typically that a granting officer shall issue a license if the criteria are met. This is a contrast
from may–issue jurisdictions where the issuance of permit is based on the discretion of the issuing

these may include minimum age, residency, passing a computerized instant background check or a

The Supreme Court however, made a definitive interpretation in the two famous rulings in District
of Columbia v Heller (2008) where the court ruled that a complete ban on the possession of
handguns for the purpose of self–defense in the home is unconstitutional (Tushnet, 2009), and the
City of Chicago v MacDonald (2009), which applied these rulings to the states. Pro–gun rights
advocates have capitalized on the interpretation of the Supreme Court and pushed for the
actualization of as much access to guns as the constitution allows. These rulings have also
contributed in bringing about this new wave of gun legislation that makes it very easy for people to
keep and bear arms.
Constitutional Carry
There is, however, a new development in gun laws. The last seven years has seen many states adopt
Constitutional Carry laws in their jurisdictions. This is sometimes referred to as Permitless or
Unrestricted Jurisdiction. As the name suggests, some states are fully unrestricted, meaning that no
permit is required by law for an open or concealed carrying or bearing of firearms. This means, in
effect, that these states are rolling back the long standing licensing, training, and registration
requirement needed to conceal carry in the Shall Issue tradition. This is a welcome development for
gun rights advocates who feel that the Second Amendment rights are restored as the founding
fathers intended it. This is not so

Hypocrisy and Gestures in "The Lame Shall Enter First"
"The Lame Shall Enter First", by Flannery O'Connery, is about a man named Sheppard, his ten year
old son Norton, and a fourteen year old kid names Rufus Johnson. Norton is trying to come to terms
with his mother's death who has been dead for a year at the start of the story. Sheppard hates that
Norton is struggling to deal with his wife's death and he has coped by focusing on his job as a
recreational director. Every Saturday he counsels the youth and there he meets a Rufus Johnson, a
teenaged delinquent, who he decides to take into his own home. The heart of this story is the war

They partake in a war revolving around the ideals of Christianity and the existence of God and
morality, however it is entirely filled with hypocrisy. O'Conner's belief of a single gesture is proven
to be true when Rufus tears a page of the Bible and eats it, and act that would typically to be
considered sacrilegious, in order to show his faith in God and/or Jesus. O'Connor believes that

We Shall Fight On The Beaches
In Winston Churchill's speech, 'We Shall Fight On the Beaches' he presents a powerful call to action
directly to the British House of Commons in the year of 1940 on the forth of June. Winston uses the
techniques of figurative language to capture his audience's attention in a way they could understand
the importance of his message, without disregarding his high level of intellect. In order for one to
truly understand Churchill's message one must understand the difficult task he was coined with prior
to delivering this powerful message. Through the use of logos Winston provides us with the
necessary background information to inform the listeners that prior to delivering the speech the
British military suffered a great loss in both France and Belgium. In great detail he speaks on the
events that have occurred leading up to him speaking, giving both us now and the then listener a
better understanding of what he stands for and is fighting for. His use of logos makes the speech
more reliable and comforts the audience because it informs them that Churchill knows what he is
talking about. In his speech he announced to the public that he knew it was going to be hard to
announce and speak on the greatest military disaster in the history of Britain. His ability to be
sensitive and honest in his challenges creates a powerful bond between his message and the
audience. His use of rhetoric helped bring about a final victory after all the disasters caused by the
Nazis. Churchill knew

Harry Potter : Who Shall Be Named
He Who Shall Be Named All around there are whispers of a name. Everyone recognizes the name
and immediately associates it with fame and the chosen one. He was made a celebrity within less
than a few months of being born. So who is this famed being? Why none other than Harry Potter!
While he never had the option of taking on the role to fame, he stills has the opportunity to create
his own destiny instead of being stuck with a destined life. Harry Potter is restricted to what his
childhood made him, but ultimately his own decisions in life determine his destiny.

From this it can be claimed that Harry was destined to always be fighting with Voldemort. The first
encounter between Harry , as a baby, and Voldemort can be considered as the official beginning of
their never–ending encounters. Neither Harry nor Voldemort wish to give in to the other side
meaning neither side will give up until the other falls.
While each of those arguments showed legitimate value toward the opposing argument of Harry
having a predestined life, the arguments for him creating his own legacy rises above. J.K Rowling is
responsible for the creation of Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. While she has
made a point of emphasizing the fame of Harry Potter, she also leaves room for Harry to grow as a
character. Even throughout the entire series, Harry has the opportunity to do as he pleases. Instead of
him being predestined to a specific life he develops as a character due to his discovery of the magic,
the friends he makes, and his overall personality. If Harry Potter had his life fully predestined we
would see the story fall into place in a much different way without as much suspense.
Once Harry was dropped off at number four, Privet Drive he left the magic world behind before
having a chance to be really introduced into it. Even with Harry spending his first ten years with the

Themes Of Shall We Dance
The movie Shall we dance is about Shohei Sugiyama who was a successful Japanese salaryman who
worked at an accountant firm in Tokyo. Mr. Sugiyama had a beautiful house, a successful job, a
devoted wife, and a teenage daughter. Despite these accomplishments, Mr. Sugiyama is not happy
and his family notices when he comes home late at night depressed. Modernization has forced him
into a job that he isn't happy at. Modernization and Westernization have forced him to buy a house,

Sugiyama would probably be a peasant or a samurai. However, modern times have forced him to get
an 8 hour job. Shall we dance offers its viewers the realization that sometimes having fun is finding
something you like and embracing it. Dancing offers an outlet from the stress of the modern world
and Mr. Sugiyama's life becomes happier when he dances. He gets his family involved and they find
happiness because he is happy. The theme of the movie is work versus play. Modern society forces
men to work while traditional society fun was more important than work. The affection he displayed
when dancing was absent in his everyday life. He was not excited to work, but excited to dance. He
was serious when it came to work and his family, but when he began to dance he began to see the
fun in life. Dancing enabled Mr. Sugiyama to be in harmony with nature as were men in harmony
with nature in traditional society. The movie's purpose was to inspire people not to take their life so
seriously and to find the fun in life. We only live once, and we should be more interconnected with
our inner beings instead of worried about our jobs and being

All Shall Be Well Analysis
Throughout the book Julian explains her beliefs and understandings of Jesus Christ and the gift of
salvation that was given to his people. Julian has a strong emphasis on motherly love and how that
plays a role in why God chose to give salvation to his people. Julian also talks about what she
believes sin is, how love is a cause for many things, and how it all connects together. "All Shall Be
Well" shows how Julian believes what God has done for us was done not thru wrath but something
else. The first main thing that Julian talks about is what she believes sin and Hell are. Julian explains
that she believes that sin is no–thing; it did not come from God and He is the cause of all things. She
believes that sin and Hell are a part of misreading reality – unreality and self–created. She believes
that Hell is the separation from God. Both Hell and sin cannot be a thing, according to Julian,
because they cannot be a part of God; He is all things. God is holy and good and both sin and Hell
are evil; therefore, cannot be a part of God's being, or even in his presence. They are both are
present in the world only because they are fitting. Sin and Hell make up nothing yet they are present
because we have created it. Secondly is the story of Love. Julian believes that the story of Jesus
Christ is one of Love. She does not believe it has anything to do with ... Show more content on

part of loving. We could not love if there was no suffering, and that is why God lets us suffer. She

Hades Shall Not Prevail Against It
The Church
Adam and Eve were the very first members of the church. The church started when Jesus Christ
came down from Heaven. Jesus' disciples were called by Jesus to be the first members of His
church. Jesus was the leader of the church. The Greek meaning of the word church is "to call or
summon" (Willmington 691). Jesus Christ called upon all of His disciples. He chose and picked
them out to follow Him and to preach the Gospel. He taught them about how to study the Gospel.
Before Jesus went to Heaven, He chose Peter to continue the church. Matthew 16:18 says "and I
also say to you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades
shall not prevail against it" (NKJV). The church had many purposes.

Vengeance Shall Be Mine Essay
Change can truly be a scary concept for some people to grasp. Some people change for the best or
some change for the worst. Hamlet is an individual constantly watched because of his change of
behavior, speech and thinking. Many of his peers realize that Hamlet has changed for the worst and
even gone mad. It is noticeable to many that Hamlet has the biggest character development in the
text. Hamlet's character undergoes many behavioral changes when he is told by his father to avenge
his wrongful murder by killing Claudius. I believe Hamlets transformation by revenge is a three
stage process in which he evolves to a being consumed by revenge and vengeance. The first stage of
Hamlet's metamorphosis of turning to a being fuelled by revenge is ... Show more content on

Hamlet then accepts revenge as his main focus of his mind and soul as he states he "will wipe away
all trivial fond records, All saws of books, all forms, all pressures past That youth and observation
copied there, And thy commandment all shall live Within the book and volume of my brain."
(Shakespeare I.v. 99–103). Hamlet fully accepts his divine duty given by the ghost and proclaims
that revenge will fully be upon his mind. One critique elegantly elaborates on Hamlets proclamation
that Hamlet sees himself " As an agent of Gods Vengeance, Hamlet then could act, and his revenge
would have the authority and finality of God's revenge." (Kastan 117).
The second stage of Hamlet's metamorphosis is when his mercy challenges his thirst for revenge.
Hamlet shows mercy on Claudius while he is praying by stating "And now I'll do't–and so' a goes to
heaven, And so am I revenged, That would be scanned. A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his
sole son, do the same villain send to heaven." (Shakespeare III.iii. 73–78). Hamlet does proclaim
that if he killed Claudius while he was praying, it would send Claudius to heaven since he is
washing away his sin. In Hamlet's mind, he believes he will be helping Claudius ascend heaven
during his prayer if he kills him. However, he craves so much for revenge and tells himself how he
is ready for revenge yet it's not until act five Hamlet proceeds any action on Claudius. The simple

Although African–Americans had technically been granted citizenship and voting rights when the
14th and 15th Amendments were passed in the late 1800s, they were still forced into subservient
positions in society by white Americans who refused to acknowledge the former's equal rights as
citizens of the United States. They were bullied into not voting by Klansmen, forced to sit in
segregated sections of restaurants and busses, and not given educational opportunities that equaled
those of white students. This discrimination was especially prevalent in the deep south, where racist
prejudices refused to die; the laws might have changed, but the people hadn't. In his book We Shall

Abraham Lincoln Shall To Be Peace Essay
"Shall it be peace, or the sword?" Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). There are many qualities a

The Constitution Shall Never Be Construed
Jae Lee Professor Jalloh English 103 (21475) 18 Dec 2014 Firearm Freedom "The Constitution shall
never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from
keeping their own arms" (Adams). Samuel Adams said this while forming the Constitution, in order
to protect United States citizens. The United States of America is one of the few nations that allow
citizens to own a weapon. The recent mass murders in public centers have increased the fear of guns
amongst the citizens. Guns are now stigmatized after the several mass murder incidents from the
movie theater in Colorado, to schools and universities in Texas and Virginia. Due to the gun–related
homicides, the government implemented strict regulations for owning a gun. This has made the
government enforce more stringent regulations in guns, especially automatic rifles. New gun laws
have banned the ownership of automatic rifles and magazines with high capacity. Also, the
government has taken away the freedom to carry handguns from citizens without a proper license in
most states. Now, in order to carry a gun, either by open carry or concealed carry, the citizens need
to apply for a gun–carrying permit. California is one of the very few states with extraneous gun
laws, and the Los Angeles County has some of the strictest concealed carry gun regulations.

Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be Or Shall He Die?
Shall he live or shall he die? That is the question. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince Hamlet
talks about committing suicide. His to be or not to be soliloquy is his most famous in the play, and
probably the most famous soliloquy ever written. As Hamlet seems to grow insane throughout the
play, he also grows suicidal. In the soliloquy of Act 3 Scene 1, the theme is conflict, and suicide.
Shakespeare tries to portray Hamlet in a more diverse way when the prince speaks his words in Act
3 Scene 1. "To be or not to be", (Act III, Scene I) is the most famous line in English literature, and
so is the soliloquy itself. When Hamlet speaks in this soliloquy, he is almost toying with the idea of
suicide. This is because he never talks about his feelings, or his pain. He only talks about what he's
currently going through. Instead of talking of his feelings, he seems to only want to build his
"courage" to commit suicide, but there's no real courage in the act of committing suicide. He'll only

together and you have Hamlet's to be or not to be speech. By putting these two personalities into one

We Shall Remain Summary
1. Having had the opportunity to watch the entire series of "We Shall Remain", it is my educated
opinion that United States history books need to be rewritten in order to display the magnitude in
which the founding fathers of the United States were nothing more than liars, thieves, and murders
to the Native Americans. The signing of the Peace Treaty in March 1621 marked the first of more
than 350 Peace Treaties by the United States and Native Americans that would later be overturned

began to show their true intentions.

Acceptance is almost always one of the trademarks of a family. The ability to accept another family
member as one of your own, no matter who they are, is important to have a functional family.
Flannery O'Connor uses dysfunctional family structures to reveal the importance of accepting
family members before it is too late. In her stories "The Lame Shall Enter First" and "Everything
That Rises Must Converge", she uses a parent/son relationship to reveal this truth, but in different
ways. In "The Lame Shall Enter First", the father must learn to no longer reject his son, but in

how O'Connor warps her family structures, but Bryan N. Wyatt also writes about her "domestic

labor protest and anti–segregation to current civil rights, "We Shall Overcome," continues to serve
as a representation of the hopes and dreams of Americans throughout the ages. That the Civil Rights
Movement was a singing movement cannot be denied, and the central importance of song to the
movement is probably unprecedented in the history of major social movements in the United States.
"We Shall Overcome," was first composed as a folk song by black slaves ... Show more content on

Appleton, who witnessed the rallies in North Carolina, notes the importance of the movement's
protest music. The song "We Shall Overcome," became a symbol of hope for the freedom movement
in 1963. The exceedingly important role of these songs in the course of the Civil Rights Movement
of the early 1960s should not be so soon forgotten. According to Clyde, "singing was integral to the
movement, perhaps in an even more pervasive and basic way than even demonstrations and rallies
and sit–ins and jail–ins, because singing was a vital component of each of these aspects of the

Shall We Dance Cultural Differences

  • 1. Shall We Dance Cultural Differences Studying film is one of the best and most engaging ways to learn about another society's culture. Films can provide insight into interactions between people, daily routines, food, and workplace behavior. Five films that have showcased several different aspects of Japanese culture are Shall We Dance?, Tampopo, Densha Otoko, Mr. Baseball, and A Taxing Woman. All of these films were produced in Japan with Japanese creative teams and directors except Mr. Baseball, which is an American–made movie and is primarily in English. However, it, as well as the other films, still provides a look into several different cultural and social differences between Japan and the United States. Shall We Dance? highlights the differences between the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otaku, which comes from the Japanese word for home, describes a nerdy individual who is more engaged in their passions, usually technology, manga, or anime, than the world around them. Manga and anime are not as popular in the United States as they are in Japan, but they are becoming more well–known thanks to properties like Naruto and Attack on Titan. The American version of an otaku is more focused on comics, like Batman, or movies and television shows, such as Game of Thrones. Additionally, both young people in the film must commute by taking the train, which is more popular in Japan due to the widespread and efficient public transportation system. In one scene in the movie, the two can be seen running to the train at night in order to make it for their ride home because the Tokyo trains stop running at night. This is different from the subway system in New York City, which is a 24–hour service and never stops running unless there is maintenance or an emergency. As a result, people in Japan must be prepared to get on the train at night or risk being stuck downtown until the next morning, where in New York, people do not have to worry about the subway ... • 3. Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth Essay Books have that magical power that can take people from reality, and they help make our minds jump into a world full of fantasies. It can make people forget about their worries and engage us into deep meaning and thoughts. Some books I have read has made me realize that my life is not as bad as some of the other people in our world. I need to applause to the ones who have suffered infinitely many times greater than I could ever imagine. Over the course of my high school career, there were 3 books that caught my attention which are Looking for Alaska, Bed Number 10, and The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth. Looking for Alaska by John Green has interested many people about "The Great Perhaps" that it focuses on. The "Great Perhaps" is the idea that there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book takes focus on 8 main characters with different identities. Each of them has their own uniqueness and personalities that make them special. The uniqueness has a major plague on how they are viewed under the scopes of other people's eyes and judgements. This book helps me realize that there are always people out there who are not supportive and are out there trying to bring us down. Society has a very negative view of people who are different, but those who are different and stand out from others are not only going to be successful, but are able to persevere through the worst of the bullying, teasing, and bashing and hurtful comments. Those who conform will grow up to be not as successful or bright compared to those who have their own ideas. I could definitely relate to this. I knew many including myself who were bullied because we were considered different and do not follow what society expects of us. But we know that all of this will not matter in the future; what makes us happy and what we do will help us later in life since we are different and can be more creative than the generics who ... • 5. The Trumpet Shall Sound The Trumpet Shall Sound by George Frideric Handel and Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy are both different but very well done pieces of music. The Trumpet Shall Sound was composed in 1741 and is known to many people as the "trumpet aria" or oratorio because in the piece there is a main trumpet with a singer. However in Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, there is no singing or voices present as it is an all–instrumental piece that was written in 1894. With the time period difference between both pieces, it is definitely shown how music changed from 1741 to 1894. While both pieces were written and composed in different time periods, the genres of both are different. The Trumpet Shall Sound's genre is simply classical music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the symphonic poem by Debussy, I mentioned that it sounds like a story is being told. After listening to the song many times I can imagine a guy on a spring day walking through the woods where he falls asleep into a deep dream, which would explain the dreamy emotion at the beginning of the song. In his dream he goes through a scary situation that he has to get himself out of. This resembles the crescendo or the climax of the dream at approximately three minutes, fifty–five seconds. Then he eventually gets through the battle and wakes up from his horrible dream towards the end of the song. At the end of the song the orchestra is more peaceful that it was during the middle. However a classical music piece would differ from this. In Handel's classical music piece there is not a storyline feeling to the way the orchestra or singer is playing. Although it resembles an opera, it is not because it is neither dramatic nor there is any impersonations or speaking involved. I personally feel that the way that the orchestra and singer are playing is to convince the listeners of something by singing and playing in a very powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, 30 years later, the one who got the man returns––as a widow––to offer the memento to her old girlfriend." (Arkatov, 1986) After she had been inspired she then puts on a story of her own which unfolds between many emotions. She begins to remember the time in California law forbade Japanese immigrants to own their own land. Yamauchi then goes into detail about "Farmers who had come to the United States in search of a better life were obliged to sign two–year leases on the property they cultivated." • 9. Research Paper On Shall We Dance Shall We Dance is a 1996 Japanese movie directed by Masayuki Suo. It follows the story of Mr. Sugiyama, a depressed accountant working in Tokyo. On his commute home from work one day, he decides to start taking ballroom dancing lessons after seeing a beautiful woman in the dance school's window. He later comes to truly enjoy dancing and finds new happiness in ballroom dancing and the new friends that he makes. The film showcases several aspects of Japanese culture, including the life of businessmen, or salarymen, and the intricacies of relationships between Japanese couples. Mr. Sugiyama is a Japanese businessman in a large city, which is a common profession in Japan, and his wife is a stay–at–home mother. Women who decide to stay home in Japan are more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sugiyama and his wife sleep in two separate beds located in the same room instead of sharing a bed like the majority of couples in the United States would do. Couples in separate beds were also regularly found in American–produced movies from the 1930s to the 1960s; however, this was because of American film censorship laws, known as the Hays Code, that declared it was too scandalous to show a man and a woman sharing a bed even though they commonly do in America. This law was changed in 1968 and now American couples are portrayed as sharing the same bed as they usually do in reality. Mr. Sugiyama and his wife being shown in two different beds in the film is not the result of a Japanese film law, but is instead a common trait of Japanese couples, who are known to have two separate beds in their homes. This could be because of comfort, especially for a couple in which the husband works late, such as Mr. Sugiyama on some nights. Sleeping in separate beds would help to prevent his wife from waking up after he gets home from work or dance practice. It may also be because of a lack of closeness in their marriage, as shown in Mr. Sugiyama's sadness and his desire to hide his dancing from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pratt writes, "...blacks clearly understood, perhaps better than other Americans, that the defeat of Hitler and Mussolini would have an impact that reached far beyond the battlefields of Europe...blacks pursued a "Double V" strategy: victory at home as well as abroad (1)." Although the passage of the 14th and 15th Amendments during the late 1800s had technically granted African–Americans citizenship and voting rights, they were still forced into subservient positions in society by white Americans who refused to acknowledge the former's equal rights as citizens of the United States. When Hunter and Holmes arrived to register for classes, the students and faculty of the University did their best to extend unwelcome to the newcomers. Ernest Vandiver, the governor at the time, even went so far as to shut down the University; two days later, the same judge that ruled in favor of Hamilton and Holmes overturned the governor's decision, and the University was opened again (91). Holmes was able to live off–campus, but due to school policy, Hunter was not; consequently, the University placed her in her own private suite in one of the dorms, "where she would have as little contact with white students as possible (91)." The night after the pair's first day of classes, students staged a massive riot in front of Hunter's dorm, throwing bricks and firecrackers, setting a fire in the woods, and chanting derogatory slogans (94). Authority figures refused to do anything to stop the riot at first, but were forced to when it got out of hand. Hunter and Holmes were suspended after the riot "for their own safety", but were eventually reinstated as students (94). Even after the shocking violence that occurred a few days earlier, the climate at the University still had not changed. • 13. The And Their Soul Shall Be As A Watered Garden SPIRITUAL GARDEN "... and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all." Jer. 31:12 The analogy of a spiritual garden has long been used to explain our role in the creative process of Life. Jesus used it extensively in his parables, and New Thought teachers have also used the analogy of a concept as a seed of thought. Ernest Holmes carries the allusion further, comparing a gardeners care of the soil with caring for one 's soul. Just as the soil is a field wherein the creative intelligence of Life works, so also is your soul a field of creativity and intelligence. It is here that the Life of God flows through you, becoming for you that which It can become through you, according to what you believe about yourself. Just as a garden plot exists within the whole of Nature, what we call our soul is our use of the universal Soul of Life, for there is no separation within an infinite Life. Our life is the Life we call God. Your soul is a spiritual garden within the perfect nature of God. Your garden is creative because it is the nature of Life to create. Your thought is creative in the same way a seed is creative: it provides the limits through which the limitless Life is expressed. Love "The universal creative Law of Mind, of which you are a part, creates for you according to your choice. • 15. We Shall Overcome Rhetorical Analysis Martin Luther King Jr. once said that, "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." During the time period (1850s) in which Frederick Douglass gave a speech entitled "The Hypocrisy of American Slavery," slavery was still a prominent feature of American society, especially in the Southern States. Douglass, like many others, was an abolitionist, someone who advocates the abolition or ending of something, such as slavery. Douglass's speech was intended to shine a light on what he called the hypocritical practice of slavery within the United States of America. Lyndon B. Johnson on the other hand, was the 36th president of the United States of America (1963–1969), and he served during a period in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In "We Shall Overcome," Johnson also employs pathos when he asserts "...we are met here tonight as Americans – not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that problem." By using restatement of the phrase "we are met here as Americans," Johnson develops the literary device of pathos by eliciting feelings of patriotism within his audience. The feelings of patriotism in turn call for compassion based on equality from Johnson's audience. In addition, by saying the term "American," Johnson's audience would be able to realize the nature of the treatment of fellow Americans (African Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr.) and possibly lead to change. Overall, the application of pathos by Douglass and Johnson sparks emotions that can lead to societal transformations. Douglass and Johnson use parallelism, which is the use of components in a sentence that are grammatically the same, and they also use anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses, to further their arguments to affect change in their communities. For example, in his speech, Douglass, when speaking about what African Americans do, states "...digging gold in California, capturing the whale in the Pacific, feeding sheep and cattle on the hillside..." which is parallelism due to the structure of the phrase, beginning with a verb and leading ... • 17. Thou Shall Not Judge Introduction: I never liked the feeling of being judged. I hated the looks people gave me. So when I got older I promised myself that I would accept any and everyone who I came across, no matter if they were good or bad. But as I got older it became harder and more difficult. I would find myself looking down at certain people. What happened to me? Judging became second nature, and it always left me with a bad feeling, in the pit of my stomach. Then one day at church, my pastor said something that hit close to home. He told me that in Matthew 7:1 Jesus commanded, "Do not judge". He said that it's not the deed of judging, but the manner with which we do it that God is most concerned about. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged" (Matt. 7:2). His words hit me hard. Who am I to judge? God, is the only one that has the right to judge anybody and once the rapture comes he will make sure every single one of us will be judge correctly by how we follow him. Our pastor went on to further explain about the judgment seat of Christ. Since Jesus also commanded us to do good works, once the rapture comes all Christians will be caught up in the air by Jesus and taken home, by Him, to Heaven. Then we will be judged at the great white throne of judgment, following Christ's millennial reign on earth. So while we still have time left on earth we should love one another and follow in Christ's footsteps. Part One: Paul told the Christians in Rome not to judge one another ... • 19. The Lame Shall Enter First 3 Writers who see by the light of their Christian faith will have, in these times, the sharpest eye for the grotesque, for the perverse, and for the unacceptable.... To the hard of hearing you shout, and for the almost–blind you draw large and startling figures. –Flannery O'Connor, "The Fiction Writer and His Country"1 Long before the likes of Raymond Carver, George Saunders and Lydia Davis, Flannery O'Connor was writing biting, grotesque gothic tales, scattered with strong religious and moral overtones. Her symbolic stories contrasted characters in existential extremes in simmering situations. In O'Connor's precise and charged worlds, where something is always about to happen, she writes like she's sucking oxygen from a room. Ultimately her work is deeply psychological, but she was the first to say that was not her interest and on more than one occasion was concerned about her work's misreading.2 The Lame Shall Enter First 3 is a fine example of her deeply conflicted morals and beliefs, seeing human nature and society as innately corrupted, with redemption as the only way to alleviate suffering. Using psychological theory to explore the themes, this analysis mirrors Flannery O'Conner's own conflicted short literary life. She died of lupus aged 39 having written two novels, 32 short stories and the occasional review and essay. • 21. Hades Shall Not Prevail Against It The Church The Church is a very important part of Christianity. It is more than just a building, it is the people that are in the building. It is a place of fellowship and for all to worship God as a family. Without the church, it would be very difficult for Christians to grow in their walk with Christ and have fellowship with other believers on a consistent schedule. The church is so important that God has promised to preserve it. Matthew 16:18 says, "on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it" (NKJV). The Church began after the death of Christ, it is both the body and the bride of Christ and the purpose of the church is to worship God, teach believers and spread the gospel to the world (Davis). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These three purposes are to worship God, to educate and instruct itself, and to spread the Gospel to the world (Davis). The Bible commands believers to worship God in John 4:24 when it says, "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (NKJV). God also instructs the church "to equip His people for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God" (NIV). This instruction from God is to teach and instruct Christians so that they can be confident in their faith and learn more about God (Davis). Christians are also taught so that they can teach and help other Christians to grow in their faith. The last main purpose of the church is to evangelize the world and share God's word with every person so that all people have the opportunity to accept Christ (Davis). This is known as the "Great Commission" and it is found in Matthew 28:19–20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirt, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (NIV). The Church would not exist if Christ did not come and die on the cross. It is by His blood that all can be saved and worship God as a church family. • 23. The Lame Shall Enter First Summary The short story, "The Lame Shall Enter First" by Flannery O'Connor, has very many meanings within the text that can be brought up into discussion between critics. A recent widower, Sheppard, is dealing with his grieving son, Norton, the best way he knows how. The story is based around Sheppard attempting to take in a very less fortunate fourteen–year–old boy out of good faith, when Sheppard himself does not acquire much faith himself. The story as a whole is simply ironic due to the hard fact that Sheppard's true intentions are to help people, but does not make any real progress with helping anyone– including himself. The false impression that the character Sheppard has that he is doing a good deed by helping out someone in need seems to backfire again and again for countless reasons. Rufus Johnson, the child Sheppard is so infatuated with and wants to bring into his home, refuses any help. Johnson has a clubbed foot, has a record with the police, along with a 140 I.Q score. The father is almost sickened by the fact that his son, Norton, is so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There become many encounters with cops showing up at Sheppard's home since the boy has stayed there, Johnson even lifts a bible from a discount store to rub it in Sheppard's face (O'Connor). Rufus mocks Sheppard many a time, but he convinces himself that Rufus is just hesitant to show any emotion and smiles anyway. Rufus Johnson's comment about Sheppard, who in his own mind is motivated only by an altruistic love for people, is striking for the way it clearly identifies the egregiousness of Sheppard's bankrupt humanity: "He thinks he's Jesus Christ!" (Behling 94). Sheppard isn't much of a religious person, but he tries to be a godly man. • 25. I Shall Be A Good Person There is but one chance at what humankind calls life, and while many events and people will influence a person over the course of their life, in the end it is choice that makes a person what they are. Each day, we're given the ability to say, "Today, I shall be a good person, shall deal honestly and forthrightly with my fellow, and shall honor the commitments to which I have bound myself." No one is ruled by the past, nor bound to a certain future. These choices we make are based on our morals, ideals, ethics, and goals. If a man is to be honest in dealing with others, he must first be honest with himself regarding the sort of man he is, and the sort he wishes to be. To be anything else leads to immoral actions and falsehoods. As I grew up, most Sundays you would find me in a Baptist Church, Missionary Baptist to be precise. The one that nearly my entire family going back at least four generations has attended, that my mother still attends, and that lies not two hundred feet from where I sit typing. Growing up in rural Arkansas my exposure to different religions was nearly nonexistent, and although I sometimes attended a different denomination of evangelical Christian church, I have never stepped foot inside a mosque, synagogue, or temple. While attending the University of Central Arkansas I was exposed to numerous different beliefs, but by that point in my life I would have described myself as 'nonreligious'. Hill and Linda Plitt Donaldson (2012) detailed the role of spirituality in social work community practice and investigated previous research conducted integrating spirituality into community practice. The article described the relationship between organized religion and community outreach, since many religions offer assistance to needy members of their congregations and communities. An important claim of the authors was the lack of studies conducted about incorporating spirituality into community practice. Spirituality has been studied at micro levels of social work and been found to be influential in helping individuals, therefore, it is possible that it would be beneficial in macro practice as well, furthermore, studies should be done to determine spirituality's efficiency in community practice (Hill & Donaldson, 2012). Sheppard is a father to Norton and also takes on a role as a father figure to Rufus when his grandfather passes. Rufus, a man who claims to follow God, unjustly lives in Sheppard's house, disregarding the compassion Sheppard provides him. She believes that sin and Hell are a part of misreading reality – unreality and self–created. She believes that Hell is the separation from God. Hamlet is an individual constantly watched because of his change of behavior, speech and thinking. Many of his peers realize that Hamlet has changed for the worst and even gone mad. It is noticeable to many that Hamlet has the biggest character development in the text. Hamlet's character undergoes many behavioral changes when he is told by his father to avenge his wrongful murder by killing Claudius. (Shakespeare I.v. 99–103). Hamlet fully accepts his divine duty given by the ghost and proclaims that revenge will fully be upon his mind. One critique elegantly elaborates on Hamlets proclamation that Hamlet sees himself " As an agent of Gods Vengeance, Hamlet then could act, and his revenge would have the authority and finality of God's revenge." (Kastan 117). The second stage of Hamlet's metamorphosis is when his mercy challenges his thirst for revenge. Hamlet shows mercy on Claudius while he is praying by stating "And now I'll do't–and so' a goes to heaven, And so am I revenged, That would be scanned. A villain kills my father, and for that, I, his sole son, do the same villain send to heaven." (Shakespeare III.iii. 73–78). Hamlet does proclaim that if he killed Claudius while he was praying, it would send Claudius to heaven since he is washing away his sin. In Hamlet's mind, he believes he will be helping Claudius ascend heaven during his prayer if he kills him. The Lame Shall Enter First Analysis Amanda Pina Professor Focht–Hansen English 1302 20 July 2015 Incompleteness in "The Lame Shall Enter First" Thesis: In "The Lame Shall Enter First," Flannery O'Connor illustrates the theme of incompleteness in human nature when dealing with a major loss. From the beginning of the story O' Connor lets the reader know that Sheppard's wife has passed; the household has from then had no major feminine presence. This lack of feminine presence leads the family to have little to no communication support for one another, and sense of connection for other family members. With this important part of the society unit not including these important elements, family members experience a greater sense of loss. Family is the base from which humans learn and establish their first relationships with other humans like John Martens states, "families, the building block of society then and now is, the place where each of us belongs"( 1). The words "antique bed" and "mammoth" are connected to the past. The antique bad is especially important item in the room as it alludes to the special emotional and physical connection that Sheppard and his wife used to have. This loss makes the characters Sheppard and Norton just as "lame" as Rufus with his condition of his clubbed foot. Sheppard is after the loss spiritually lame as he claims to be an atheist as well as sees himself as a godly figure; he tries to not only be the "salvation" for the reformatory boys, but also rectifies Norton's selfishness. Pratt's We Shall Not Be Moved Although African–Americans had technically been granted citizenship and voting rights when the 14th and 15th Amendments were passed in the late 1800s, they were still forced into subservient positions in society by white Americans who refused to acknowledge the former's equal rights as citizens of the United States. They were bullied into not voting by Klansmen, forced to sit in segregated sections of restaurants and busses, and not given educational opportunities that equaled those of white students. This discrimination was especially prevalent in the deep south, where racist prejudices refused to die; the laws might have changed, but the people hadn't. • 63. Abraham Lincoln Shall To Be Peace Essay "Shall it be peace, or the sword?" Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865). There are many qualities a president must have to be a good president. Those qualities include being the United States symbol of all people in the nation, being a good public speaker, taking control over the nations armed forces, and being the architect of the nation's public policies. Abraham Lincoln showed all of these great qualities during his presidency from 1861–1865. Abraham Lincoln was an amazing symbol of the United States. "He had not spoken ten minutes until everybody was carried away. We forgot all about his looks. Exeter was full of people of culture. It was a place to which people moved when they retired from active life. The audience was one of educated, cultivated people. I never heard such applause in that hall as Mr. Lincoln received that night. .... Every part fitted into the whole argument perfectly. As I recall it, the Exeter speech followed closely the lines of the Cooper Union address, which was on slavery. I suppose it had been carefully prepared. I know it captured all of us."––Marshall Snow in Intimate Memories of Lincoln. Many of his important speeches include The Gettysburg Address, The Emancipation Proclamation, and his second inauguration speech. Many people say that Abraham Lincoln was an amazing speaker because of his 25 years of law he went through. Abraham Lincoln was one of the best presidents to give speeches. • 65. The Constitution Shall Never Be Construed Jae Lee Professor Jalloh English 103 (21475) 18 Dec 2014 Firearm Freedom "The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms" (Adams). Samuel Adams said this while forming the Constitution, in order to protect United States citizens. The United States of America is one of the few nations that allow citizens to own a weapon. The recent mass murders in public centers have increased the fear of guns amongst the citizens. Guns are now stigmatized after the several mass murder incidents from the movie theater in Colorado, to schools and universities in Texas and Virginia. Due to the gun–related homicides, the government implemented strict regulations for owning a gun. This has made the government enforce more stringent regulations in guns, especially automatic rifles. New gun laws have banned the ownership of automatic rifles and magazines with high capacity. Also, the government has taken away the freedom to carry handguns from citizens without a proper license in most states. Now, in order to carry a gun, either by open carry or concealed carry, the citizens need to apply for a gun–carrying permit. California is one of the very few states with extraneous gun laws, and the Los Angeles County has some of the strictest concealed carry gun regulations. Because of personal safety, and the Second Amendment, Los Angeles should allow every resident the opportunity to apply for a concealed weapon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Peace Shall Destroy Many Thom Wiens and Pete Block Rudy Wiebe's novel, Peace Shall Destroy Many, tells of a story that takes place in the heart of Saskatchewan and describes the problems of a Mennonite community. There are many contrasting beliefs in this Mennonite community. Beliefs about traditions, the Métis, and war going on around them. These beliefs come up within two characters in this novel, Thom Wiens, and Pete Block. These two friends have many things in common, yet throughout the novel, their differences start to shine through. Their beliefs start to change and their friendship starts to dwindle, although in the end they both discover flaws within the community. Thom, who once believed Block to be a brilliant man and whom he strongly looked up to, began to doubt and see many flaws in his ways (165). In the last chapter of the book, Thom's crises was what was the truth that must be followed? He thought his only choices were to choose the old Block way or the young Unger way (279). The Christmas play about the Wisemen following the star to the savior in Bethlehem, leads Thom to find his way. He realized that two wars did not confront him, only one's two faces (287.) Thom understands that the war in Wapiti is to secure a right relationship with the Indians and Métis. J.M. Robinson, in his introduction, explains, "Just as "war" is not necessarily bad, so "peace" is not necessarily good. The peace based on neglect and evasion will destroy (xix). Pete also changes. Pete Block was known to accept the traditions without question and he stood firm in his belief (6,7). He followed exactly in his father's footsteps and he never thought for himself (165). However, Pete comes to Thom's Sunday school class with the Métis to see for himself what his Papa said. It was the first time Thom had ever know Pete to check his father's opinions with facts, rather than simply taking his father's every word (236). • 71. Hamlet's Soliloquy To Be Or Shall He Die? Shall he live or shall he die? That is the question. In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince Hamlet talks about committing suicide. His to be or not to be soliloquy is his most famous in the play, and probably the most famous soliloquy ever written. As Hamlet seems to grow insane throughout the play, he also grows suicidal. In the soliloquy of Act 3 Scene 1, the theme is conflict, and suicide. Shakespeare tries to portray Hamlet in a more diverse way when the prince speaks his words in Act 3 Scene 1. "To be or not to be", (Act III, Scene I) is the most famous line in English literature, and so is the soliloquy itself. When Hamlet speaks in this soliloquy, he is almost toying with the idea of suicide. This is because he never talks about his feelings, or his pain. He only talks about what he's currently going through. Instead of talking of his feelings, he seems to only want to build his "courage" to commit suicide, but there's no real courage in the act of committing suicide. He'll only prove himself to be a coward by committing suicide because get all of his problems over with rather than attempting to conquer them. Hamlet argues with ... By putting these two personalities into one person, Shakespeare expresses what opposite personalities can do to a person. Opposites do not mix, but when they attempt to, you get conflict. • 73. We Shall Remain Summary 1. Having had the opportunity to watch the entire series of "We Shall Remain", it is my educated opinion that United States history books need to be rewritten in order to display the magnitude in which the founding fathers of the United States were nothing more than liars, thieves, and murders to the Native Americans. The signing of the Peace Treaty in March 1621 marked the first of more than 350 Peace Treaties by the United States and Native Americans that would later be overturned by the United States. It appears that once the Colonists began actually outnumbering the Wampanoag, the Colonists conceit, gluttony, and bigotry had come to the top of their agenda and it began to show their true intentions. It is appalling that over the next two hundred years the United States was determined to keep expanding its borders, without concern to the Native Americans. When I think about how Tecumseh, the Shawnee, and many Native Americans were forced to move from one area to another because the United States Government. The U.S. fundamentally professed war on the Native Americans by forcing them out of the areas they occupied for countless years in order to advance the U.S.'s monetary gain and affluence. • 75. The Lame Shall Enter First Analysis Acceptance is almost always one of the trademarks of a family. The ability to accept another family member as one of your own, no matter who they are, is important to have a functional family. Flannery O'Connor uses dysfunctional family structures to reveal the importance of accepting family members before it is too late. In her stories "The Lame Shall Enter First" and "Everything That Rises Must Converge", she uses a parent/son relationship to reveal this truth, but in different ways. In "The Lame Shall Enter First", the father must learn to no longer reject his son, but in "Everything That Rises Must Converge", the son must learn to no longer reject his mother. Writer Tony Magistrale recognizes and addresses that in both "The Lame Shall Enter First" and "Everything That Rises Must Converge", the family member seeks reconciliation at the moment of death after it is too late to save the relationship. He also reflects on how the family member is left permanently changed but has noone to express their remorse to. He says that the violent actions in O'Connor's writing are what reveals the child or parents true love and reveal how they could tragically not realize they had this love until it was too late. Their eternal grief is self imposed. Not only does Magistrale recognize how O'Connor warps her family structures, but Bryan N. Wyatt also writes about her "domestic dynamics." O'Connor builds her characters with many faults such as selfishness, bigotry, and pride, and when they involve these traits with their families, a distorted family is created. Its constant transformation and consistent popularity make it the symbol of American Protest. From the labor protest and anti–segregation to current civil rights, "We Shall Overcome," continues to serve as a representation of the hopes and dreams of Americans throughout the ages.
