Social Media for Churches - Presented by Jason HamJason Ham
Â
Social Media for Churches. Share the news of the Gospel using the latest platforms in a creative and meaningful way. Social Media is your mission field to reach the world for Christ!
Presentation delivered by Jason Ham at Plymouth Christian Centre, 03 March 2014 and delivered to Churches across Plymouth and the rest of Devon.
How shall we tell our stories in the age when traditional and new media converge are creating new languages that in turn create new networks, communities and contested discourse? What are the key elements to craft our stories and to mediate those produced by the culture?
I will highlight examples of image and sound from popular cinema, YouTube and other sources, in order to enhance and expand our understanding of the heart of story telling in a noisy world that is competing for our attention.

Propaganda with a Mission: Learning from the Second World War for the Christian Sector in a Digital Age
In the Second World War, British propaganda posters were circulated using the techniques of persuasion, education, information, celebration, encouragement, morale boosting, and identification of enemies to encourage civilians to understand and undertake their responsibilities in âThe Peopleâs Warâ.
Â
In the face of oft-reported declines in church membership, there is urgency for the church to recognize the possibilities of online spaces. The author of a PhD on the above topic developed the BIGBible Project in 2010. The Project blog curates contributions from #DIGIdisciples, questioning what it means to be a Christian in a digital age and in the digital environment. What do digital technologies allow us to do differently, and what can we learn from the past?
Â
The conference paper will draw from the rich collection of over 2,750 #digidisciple posts to demonstrate the potential that the digital has offered the Christian sector, whilst also emphasizing continuity with the past.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Slide 1: Title: Exploring the Mindfulness: Understanding Its Benefits
Slide 2: Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. By cultivating mindfulness, we can develop a heightened awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings, leading to a greater sense of clarity and presence in our daily lives.

By focusing on the present moment and being fully attentive, mindfulness helps build stronger and more authentic connections with others.
Mindfulness teaches us how to be present for others in difficult times, leading to increased compassion and understanding.
Slide 6: Mindfulness Techniques and Practices
Focusing on the breath and mindful breathing can be a simple way to enter a state of mindfulness.
Body scan meditation involves focusing on different parts of the body, paying attention to any sensations and feelings.

âAll this taking and posting photos has become
an obsession of sorts. We feel pressured to edit

â˘Condemnation: this group just dismisses popular or secular
culture as sinful.
â˘Critique: this group, a la Francis Schaeffer, evaluates
culture, probing its worldview.
â˘Copying: after Schaeffer, evangelicals began simply
copying pop culture. CCM was one prominent result.
â˘Consumption: today, however, most evangelicals are avid
consumers of secular and pop culture.

53. Creating Culture, Andy Crouch
The postures of the artist and the gardener have a
lot in common. Both begin with contemplation,
paying close attention to what is already there.
The gardener looks carefully at the landscape; the
existing plants, both flowers and weeds; the way
the sun falls on the land. The artist regards her
subject, her canvas, her paints with care to discern
what she can make with them.
Culture Making (31%)
54. But we must reclaim the cultural
mandate to be the creative
cultivators that God designed us to
be. Culture is what we make of the
world, both in creating cultural
artifacts as well as in making sense
of the world around us. By making
chairs and omelets, languages and
laws, we participate in the good
work of culture making.

They just have to grow old
gracefully. Guess what, we still

60. #SH2014 THEME GUIDE
âWe cannot make up a Jesus to suit our

62. The Christianity of private piety,
affluent conformity, and only âGod

the witness of the church while
putting a new generation of

by the things you wonât do or
