Seismic waves are elastic waves generated by earthquakes or explosions that travel through the earth. There are two main types of seismic waves: P-waves and S-waves. P-waves are compressional waves that move faster through solid earth, while S-waves are slower shear waves that can only travel through solids. Seismic waves are used to study earthquakes and also to explore underground for oil and natural gas reservoirs.

2. What are sesimic waves ?
A seismic wave is an elastic wave generated by an
impulse such as an earthquake or an explosion.
Seismic waves may travel either along or near the
earth's surface (Rayleigh and Love waves) or
through the earth's interior (P and S waves).
