The document summarizes the PRSSA chapter newsletter for September 2014. It introduces the executive board members and their roles for the year. It also discusses opportunities for students to get involved with the chapter, such as joining PRaction, the student-run PR firm, which is restructuring into new departments. A
new school year means a fresh
start. So why not make the most
out of it? At Rowan, there are
many opportunities to shape a beneficial
school year.
Joining a club is one way to impact
not only your school year, but also years
to follow. Rowan has at least one club for
every major. Joining a club within your
major will get you ahead of the game by
strengthening your skills and resume.
Don’t have a major yet? No worries. Be
open-minded and join a club that sparks
your interest. It could even lead to decid-
ing on a course of study.
Even if you declared a major, don’t be
afraid to leave your comfort zone. Learn
new skills or pick up a new hobby. Joining
any club is a great way to add diversity to
your skill set, network with others and
form friendships that can last a lifetime!
Taking advantage of Rowan’s academic
services is another way to enhance your
school year. Many students don’t realize
the impact these services can have on
their academic performance. Some of
Rowan’s academic services include: the
Advising Center, Tutoring Center, Writing
Center, Career Management Center, the
Campbell Library and many more.
Do some research and get yourself
out there this school year. You won’t
regret it! v
Welcome Back For Another Great Year
Go All In!
A
s this year’s chapter president, I
would like to welcome you to the
Public Relations Student Society
of America (PRSSA). This society is built
not only to enhance and sharpen your
skills, but also to provide you with oppor-
tunities and benefits that ensure a bright
future in your career.
After joining PRSSA my sophomore
year, I became more confident in my skills
and knowledge of the public relations field.
I made lifelong relationships with students
and professionals while surrounding myself
with others who share the same passion for
success. Our chapter is designed to bring a
diverse group of students together to grow
and flourish as young professionals.
PRSSA extends far beyond Rowan’s
campus. It is a national organization com-
prising over 11,000 students among chap-
ters across the United States. As a PRSSA
member, you will have the opportunity to
network and develop relationships with
other chapters and professionals from
around the nation.
Many public relations professionals
attend our meetings as guest speakers,
offering their insights and experiences.
Outside of our meetings, we provide
opportunities to tour local public relations
agencies and corporate offices, closing the
gap between the classroom and the work
environment. As a member, you will also
have the opportunity to attend events held
by the Public Relations Society of Amer-
ica (PRSA), our parent organization of
public relations professionals.
PRSSA National offers dues-paying
members scholarships, internship oppor-
tunities and other benefits to help
maximize potential. After graduation,
dues-paying members can join PRSA at a
discounted rate.
In our chapter’s nearly 40-year history,
we’ve established a strong reputation
nationally. I welcome you to join this
chapter, bring your unique perspective
and help us uphold and improve the
reputation our predecessors built. v

Katarina DeFelice,
Director of Philanthropy
Tyler Schickner,
Director of Recruitment and Diversity
Taylor Leentjes,
Historian/Alumni Coordinator
As chapter president, Jonathan oversees the chapter’s opera-
tions and helps maintain and grow upon its reputation. This
year, he aims to increase member involvement by celebrat-
ing diversity and promoting inclusion.
As vice president of special events, Venus works with the
special events committee to plan and execute biweekly
meetings, AJF-PRSSA’s Induction Luncheon and the Spring
Gala. Venus and her committee also co-host PRaction’s
annual speed dating event. They work hard to make sure all
meetings are informative and will help members develop
themselves into PR professionals. This semester Venus plans
to create a fun environment through icebreaker activities
and bonding events. Venus also wishes to expand the PR
knowledge of members through classes called PR 101s and
engage members in case study mini-competitions.
As PR director, Courtney handles PRomo, the chapter’s
award-winning monthly newsletter. She determines the
theme, layout, stories and release dates for each issue. This
year, Courtney plans to produce newsletters geared toward
helping members get a firm grasp on all things PR-related.
Members of the PRomo committee have the opportunity to
boost writing skills and produce articles each month to be
published in the chapter newsletter.
As the AJF-PRSSA liaison, Victoria is very excited to coor-
dinate the trip to Washington, D.C. for National Conference.
She hopes to give attendees a positive bonding experience
that will further postcollege careers and help expand netw-
orks. She also plans on organizing many agency tours in
Philadelphia and New York City throughout both semesters.
Last, she is looking forward to compiling the award binders
at the end of the year to submit to PRSSA National in a way
that best portrays our chapter’s hard work and dedication.
As director of philanthropy, Katarina plans to involve the
chapter in as many philanthropic and volunteer activities as
possible this year. She also plans to work diligently with her
committee on Dance Away Cystic Fibrosis to continue the
great success of past years.
As director of recruitment and diversity, Tyler works with
his committee to recruit Rowan students to join PRSSA, as
well as prospective students from county colleges. This year,
he plans to create and distribute promotional materials to
help with recruiting at college fairs and Rowan events.
As historian/alumni coordinator, Taylor’s responsibilities
consist of planning, documenting and connecting. Taylor
plans chapter events that focus on connecting members of
PRSSA. She also maintains communication with alumni
and informs them of chapter activities. This year, Taylor’s
committee will assist with planning fun, meaningful chapter
events, documenting what goes on at all PRSSA functions
and generating ideas to better connect the AJF-PRSSA
alumni to chapter activities.

As director of communication, Jaimie manages the chap-
ter’s email, Facebook, Twitter, blog and other social media
accounts. Jaimie oversees two committees: Newsbriefs and
the blog committee. Newsbriefs is released biweekly as a
complementary newsletter to PRomo. The blog committee
writes articles for our online website, rowanprssa.com.
As vice president of PRaction, Casey works internally with
all the firm’s members. This year, her goal is to promote
teamwork and open communication within PRaction. She
also plans to emphasize on recognizing standout
workers and increasing the firm’s online presence.
As Organ Donor Day director, Taylor plans to further
involve the Gift of Life House into each program and pro-
motional event this year, including the Super Smash Donors
Tournament in the fall and Organ Donor Day on April 8.
Taylor’s committee will experience a variety of different
responsibilities while helping a great cause.
As finance director, Casey allocates the budget for each
executive board position. This allows each e-board member
to have ample funding for his or her desired plans. Casey
also oversees fundraising, an important aspect of PRSSA
that creates greater opportunities for the organization. This
year, Casey plans to develop new fundraising techniques to
raise more money for PRSSA and encourage more students
to become involved in the chapter.
As president of PRaction, our chapter’s student PR firm,
Shannon finalizes clients for the firm and works on exter-
nal communications. Shannon’s goals for this year include
creating higher membership and retention rates for the firm
while engaging members in meaningful real-life public rela-

and functional work environment, PRaction will become a
stronger firm and an even greater asset to our chapter.
As promotions manager, Victoria is responsible for attending
SGA Senate meetings, collecting meeting minutes, manag-
ing the PRSSA bulletin board in Bozorth Hall and creating
promotional materials for fundraisers. Victoria hopes to
better the chapter this year with her promotion efforts and by
getting members involved outside of meetings.
A New Way of Putting PR Into Action
P
Raction, Rowan University’s
award-winning, student public
relations firm, announces a new
organizational structure for the 2014-
2015 academic year.
PRaction’s new organizational
structure provides members with a
unique opportunity by incorporating
new Creative, Media, Research, and Pro-
motions & Events Departments with ex-
isting account managers. Members can
apply for account manager, department
director and consultant positions.
Consultants work within a specific
department assigned based on inter-
est, while department directors lead
and mentor consultants within each
specific department. Account managers
manage relations with clients and
department directors. Under this struc-
ture, members will work with multiple
clients, allowing them the opportunity
to create stronger resumes and port-
folios.
PRaction works within the Antho-
ny J. Fulginiti PRSSA chapter and we
encourage all PRSSA members to join
PRaction and improve on research,
media relations, writing, creative,
social media, promotional, marketing
and event planning skills. By the end
of the year, members gain a better
understanding of public relations and
receive valuable real-life experience.
This year, our clients come from
nonprofit, fashion, food and commu-
nity backgrounds. Clients include
PACT5, Forever Young Emporium,
Yogo Factory, Payton Press, Church of
St. Bridget and the Economic Devel-
opment Council of Harrison Town-
ship. PRaction also houses Organ
Donor Day (ODD), an event that
educates Rowan students and faculty
about the importance of organ do-
nation. For more information about
ODD and how to get involved, contact
ODD Director Taylor Feldschneider at

This Semester’s PRaction Clients
By Shannon Smith, PRaction President
Pact5, a national movement to prevent
sexual assaults in colleges, uses student-
produced documentaries to create aware-
ness. Students use powerful stories with
the hope of providing educational tools
among colleges, campus police, Greek
life, hospitals and counseling and rehab
centers. Through events, media relations,
research and an increase of online traffic,
Pact5 works toward its goal of creating
awareness among the Rowan community.
Forever Young Emporium offers a
large selection of unique and retro-
inspired gifts and clothing from tapestries,
posters, incense, tie-dye, bags, jewelry,
Birkenstocks and more. Forever Young’s
vision encompasses brand awareness in
on- and off-campus communities. Forever
Young hopes to increase foot traffic in the
store by hosting events, fundraisers and
promotional nights, along with expos-
ing itself through new social media and
traditional media channels.
Church of St. Bridget connects itself
with the Glassboro and Rowan communi-
ties through community groups and the
Catholic Campus Ministry. The vision of
the church consists of generating aware-
ness throughout the community and
focusing on the youth group. By reaching
out to middle and high school students,
the church envisions hosting and promot-
ing events and creating a social media link
for its blog. The second focus encompass-
es a community project called the Garden
of Love Project. The project feeds the
hungry and gives to the local food bank.
This project will use promotions and
communication among the Glassboro
community to create success. v
Yogo Factory at Rowan offers various
frozen yogurt flavors with a “serve your-
self” theme. Yogo Factory hopes it can
increase brand awareness among students
and create a plan to increase community
awareness. Yogo Factory’s vision incorpo-
rates planning special events, researching
new ways of reaching out to students and
using creative marketing research.
Organ Donor Day (ODD)’s commit-
tee, a dedicated volunteer group, educates
Rowan students and faculty about the
importance of organ donation and how
to become an organ donor. The ODD
committee hosts several fundraisers and
events, spreading awareness and raising
money for organ donation. At Organ
Donor Day, students can learn more
about organ donation and sign up to
become an organ donor. With PRaction’s
new organizational structure, the firm as
a whole will participate to help the ODD
committee have a successful year.
Economic Development Council
(EDC) of Harrison Township, a
group made up of volunteers, strives for
economic growth and development in
Harrison Township. While rebranding
Harrison Township, the EDC hopes to
bring exposure and generate economic
strides for the Township, attracting busi-
nesses and visitors. The EDC hopes to
use news releases, events, grant writing,
research and creative efforts to achieve
this goal.
Payton Press provides book services
such as consulting authors, proofread-
ing services, designing book covers and
creating illustrations for readers of all
ages. Payton Press also offers writing and
illustration workshops. This year, Payton
Press plans on releasing two new books
for young readers. One book is a healthy
cookbook and the other focuses on sup-
porting animal rescue. Through promo-
tions and events, Payton Press wishes to
create greater awareness about the com-
pany. Payton Press hopes to accomplish
this through media pitching to blogs,
developing a social media strategy, host-
ing Barnes and Noble and Rowan daycare
events and researching new angles for the
release of the two new books.
