School.
1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
I will be raising money for a family who has multiple special needs children.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience includes raising money for a lady who had Breast Cancer last year.
My friend and I knew we wanted to start raising money for good causes, so we decided to open up
our own non-profit organization. My friend and I hosted a walk for the lady and all the proceeds
went to her medical bills. Along with the walk, we made t-shirts, had a raffle, and had a bake sale to
raise the most amount of money possible.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I will connect this to the career of Public Relations for a non-profit organization.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
I plan to have multiple fundraisers to help raise the maximum amount of money for a family
with multiple special needs children. First, I will have write down my ideas for how I am going to get
the community involved. Then, I will create a separate advertising plan for each of the three main
fundraisers. I will create a non-profit organization and set up a bank account at Cherokee Bank in
order to obtain all of the donations given. Next, I will work on each advertisement in order of date of
the events. For example, I will write letters to newspapers and put flyers around our local Cherokee
county community. Next, I will come up with a t-shirt design. This will involve calling local t-shirt
businesses and getting a reasonable price for them. Afterwards, I will sell the t-shirts to all the local
schools and individuals in the area. Then, I will host an awareness walk at a local venue in the Canton
community. Next, I will put together a portfolio of the advertisements and participant lists. Finally, I
will collect all the donations and give them to the family.
5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
I have never dealt with kids who have special needs. I think it will be a great eye opening
experience.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
I have estimated the cost of this project to only be around two-hundred dollars. This will
include any supplies needed to complete my fundraising. In order to attain this amount, I will try to
receive donations from local companies.
2. 7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
Magen Hickey (Works at In Harmony Pediatric Therapy)
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
Magen has been in this career field for about 5 years now. She has worked with Northside
Pediatric Care and dealt with adolescents. She has now moved on the Pediatric Care and Therapy to
help kids with special needs.
