returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.

1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
I will be creating and organizing a fundraiser for Parkinson’s disease. The fundraising will include
selling silicone bracelets; creating a walk for a cure, and a conference to raise money and more
awareness. All of the proceeds will go to research for this disease since there is no cure.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience with this disease is that my grandmother had it for 10 years before she died
and I was able to learn about her disease, but also watch her fall to her death. I want to be able to take
my experience and share it with others. Next, my experience with a fundraising is that I’ve attended
Walks and car shows that were for raising money for a cause.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
I will connect this project into the career of becoming a doctor, and also helping to find a cure for
Parkinson’s.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
I plan to create a fundraiser to raise money and awareness of Parkinson’s disease. First, I will advertise
what I am doing. Second, I’m going to sell silicone bracelets that are engraved with the words, “Cure
Parkinson’s.” This will be my first form of donations to send in for research. My next form of donation
money will be from a rally where I will give a speech about my experience with my grandmother and
her struggles. Also, groups are able to come and speak about their cause and how they support research
for Parkinson’s. Next, I would like to have a “Walk for Parkinson’s.” I would have a set amount of
money for a person to enter the walk, so that the money I collect can go towards research. The entry
fee would be a maximum of $10; the rally would be before the walk to pump everyone up to walk. The
location for the walk would be at a local park near my house, either Fowler Park or Wills Park. Both
have huge space where I can make my needs happen.
5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?

2. In addition to learning how to organize events and speaking in front of a lot of people, it will also
be a very emotional project for me and family.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
The costs of bands will be over $150, hosting the walk will cost about $200-500, and that includes
food and drink. Lastly, the rally will be the most expensive considering I am having a gathering of
people at a location. But everything will be worth it for my grandmother and for others who struggle
with Parkinson’s.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
I plan on using Mr. Sharrock as my project facilitator.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
Either one is qualified in the medical and science fields. This will assist me with how a disease
attacks a person’s body. They can also help me with speaking in front of groups because they speak in
front of people all of the time. Also, my facilitator can be helpful in helping me plan the events.
