- 2. What I want you to get out of this The goal is to have you question what you are doing and why. Libraries needs creative people who can work on a shoestring. If everyone is totally happy with everything I say then I did not do my job today.

- 4. Who are seniors? Traditionally – anyone over 55/65/72.5 For our purpose today – anyone who is old enough to have not grown up with computers available to interact with and does not have sufficient computer skills Working in 1985 or later should have skills (~20 in 1985 so ~45 now)
- 5. Why are they special? Seniors are a key base of library supporters Everyone needs to be Computer Literate More and more services are only available online IRS.gov FLUID

- 7. Same people - different setting Seniors are not special needs students They just need a slightly different class setting More one on one or smaller class sizes Hands on training
- 8. When you teach Early is better Learn over Lunch Get help – more than you think you need
- 9. Length of Class Shorter is better Build in “breaks” Add in time to practice
- 10. Same information – different presentation Seniors need to know all of the same things Computer Basics is not the end it is the beginning Learning Tracks
- 11. Handouts Have something memorable No pictures Read the screen Highlight “top ten to remember”
- 12. Examples that fit your audience Use sample text that pertains to your class Pick web sites that will interest them Refresh by reinforcing how skills build on each other

- We are all used to thinking about HOW we are doing something, I want you to think about the WHY you are doing it and SHOULD you be doing it.
- For YOU not for your location, every one who teaches puts their own spin on things and finds their own way to reach their audience. Aside – yes the zombies are disgusting, but you will remember them, find your own way to make your presentations memorable
- Anyone who is not fully computer literate and is under 50 is a low skill adult in this day and age
- Those who vote get the services they deserveThis is the 21st century after all, and we are 10% of the way done alreadyYou need to keep that crazy old man busy with something
- You do not want to be the angry old man who just doesn’t get it.
- They are not mentally challenged or physically challenged They are not for high school or college classroom settings of lectures

- Short consistent timeframes – i.e. every Wed morningTime that the instructor checks on the students to let everyone have a breatherTime after class to practice without an instructor
- Everyone needs to understand the current informationBasics include using FacebookChecklists of what people should know helps students feel they have made progress
- Something that they will remember to help remember the classPictures can be confusing and lead to memorizationWhat phrase to look for to find what you need. Each class or series of classes should have a list of “this is what you learned”
- Letter to editor or similarFacebook = family, Goodreads for books, National Hurricane Center, YouTube for music, etc.Each class gives an opportunity to remind what the previous classes taught
- Everyone should know how to create a secure password
- Catchprases are easy to remember IEatStinkyCheese, addresses, etc
