  • 3. But, Have you factored in? After one or both groups Location of firm Small, Medium or large firm Generic or boutique firm Stipend Office timings Classes, College Exam leaves Industrial training Transfer ( God forbid this situation)
  • 4. When to join? After clearing one Group • Pros • Advantage of starting early • Cons • Focus could be divided between studies as adjusting to office environment • Not many firms prefer one Group cleared candidates After clearing both Groups • Most firms prefer both Group cleared candidates • Focus on practical learning (as final exams are after approx. 2 years)
  • 5. Your future Principal be like distance doesn’t matter!
  • 6. Distance to and from firm! Small town vs non-metro vs metro • Given pace of change, students prefer metro or non-metro • Cosmopolitan culture helps in learning • Opportunity to learn from peers and friends • Better coaching facilities (could be debatable with virtual coaching!) • Better exposure to student activities/ conferences Near hostel vs near classes • Distance is a relative concept – Everyday you should feel happy to go to office else small distance will also feel pretty long! • Distance may not be critical criteria • Equal preference to be given to practical learning in office
  • 8. Small medium at large! Small vs medium vs large • Each firm has own advantages • Choice should be dependent on understanding of concepts and process oriented approach
  • 9. Decision should depend on? Is the work/ task procedural in nature? Who will be your mentor? How many articles are there in the firm? Is there a learning matrix in the firm?
  • 10. Work expectations! Accounts Auditing Advisory and litigation Assist in key decisions
  • 11. Traditional approach ! Job Starting own Practice Practical approach Learn every thing Mid Size Firms Specialisation Industry Big 4s What do I need to do after becoming a CA
  • 12. Have you factored? Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics etc Increasing preference to systems over people Alignment with other professionals
  • 13. Modern approach! Whether jobs or practice will remain relevant in 2022? Start up? Business Advisor/Consultant Other? Think

Other factors Stipend • Learning should be focus and not earning (unless candidate has financial challenges) Classes, College • Most firms allow Exam leaves • Most firms give enough exam leave Thought leadership at firm Online footprints of the firm Industrial training • Consulting experience should be preferred!
  • 15. Way-forward Set up goals Aim to be a leader and don’t set limit on what you can achieve! Consult with peers, teachers, CAs Analyse available options Arrive at right decision!

  • 20. Koi bhi firm perfect nahi hota, use perfect banana padata hai! Instead of cribbing, invest anger in creative solutions! Ask yourself, can you can do it better! Share your thoughts with your seniors Ask for feedback
