This seminar will discuss opportunities and challenges of knowledge management and cloud technologies for businesses. Professor Eric Tsui will speak on April 27th from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He will provide an update on how knowledge management has developed with the rise of Web 2.0, social media, and cloud computing, and how these allow ubiquitous sharing and harnessing of collective wisdom. Professor Tsui is an expert in knowledge management and has experience researching knowledge engineering tools and consulting governments and businesses in Asia and Australia on knowledge management.

Abstract:
Jointly organized by CMA Canada (BC Hong Kong Branch) and the Knowledge
Management and Innovation Research Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University,
this talk will provide an update on the development of Knowledge Management and
associated tools in the past decades. In recent years, Web 2.0, social media and the Cloud
have a profound effect on knowledge sharing and collaboration, especially in the form of
bottom-up ubiquitous sharing, the viral effect, and harnessing of micro-expertise and
collective wisdom. With plenty of examples and cases for illustration, this seminar sheds
light into how knowledge work is being carried out, now and in the near future.
Profile of Speaker
Eric Tsui is the Professor of Knowledge Management of the Department of
Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic
University (PolyU). He is also currently Associate Director of Knowledge
Management and Innovation Research Centre at PolyU. He was formerly
Chief Research Officer, Asia Pacific, in Computer Sciences Corporation
(CSC) (2000-05). He joined CSC in 1989 after years of academic research in
automated knowledge acquisition, natural language processing, case-based
reasoning and knowledge engineering tools. His research was supported by
grants and scholarships from Arthur Young, Rank Xerox, CSC, Graphic
Directions, and the Australian Research Council. He was also a gratis visitor
to Microsoft Research in February, 2000.
Between August 2000 and January 2005, he assumed the roles of Innovation
Manager at Australian Mutual Provident (AMP) and Maybank, two strategic
outsourcing accounts at CSC in the Asia Pacific region. Prof. Tsui was
responsible for strategic research, knowledge brokering (between CSC and
the clients), innovation management and university-industry collaborations.
Prof. Tsui has designed and delivered many KM and Portals workshops and
consulted extensively for government departments and private enterprises in
Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Australia.
