1. We have already seen 1950 1953 Korean war. Now, we will look at the Cause and effects of Korean war
which started after World war II from 25 June 1950 to 27 July 27 1953. It has been more than a half century
ago since Korean war, which was a significant event for both North and South Korea as well as other
countries who were involved in the Korean War. Korean war is still influencing North and South Korea
internally and externally. It is marked as a tragedy in modern contemporary history that destroyed the entire
nation of Korea and killed millions of people. The effect of Korean War is visible in living conditions of
people, structure of society and understanding of the society. The War’s influence is deeply embedded in
both North and South Korean’s history, controlling the consciousness and perception of the people. Below
are the Cause and effects of Korean war.
Effects of the war
In the three years of fighting 1,263 men of the Commonwealth forces were killed and a further 4,817 were
wounded, while the United States lost 33,000 men. Australian casualties numbered more than 1,500, of
whom 339 were killed. Almost half a million South Koreans died as a result of the war, and an
unknownnumber of North Koreans and Chinese.
The country was totally gone after long period of war as image below. 1950 1953 Korean war destroyed the
entire nation of Korea and killed millions of people. The effects of Korean war has splited Korea into North
Korea and South Korea. Many Korean families were split with relatives on either sides of the border due to
different kind of thoughts, either communism or non-communism. There were several casualties on both
sides though the exact figure may never be known.
The Korean War created more friction between the United States and the Soviet Union. The war
demonstrated the will of the United States to do everything possible to prevent the proliferation of
communism. A feeling of enmity developed between China and the United States that would last for
decades. This war created a fear in the United States of the domino effects of communism. The United
States intervened in Vietnam to avoid another North Korea. South Korea became an important US military
base with thousands of American troops stationed there. The Korean War never ended. The inability of the
two sides to resolve their differences has meant that the two Koreas and their allies have had to remain on
a battle ready state along the border ever since.
Today, South Korea has become a major economic and technological power. North Korea is still a poverty-
stricken, heavily militarized nation. It is hoped that one day the two Koreas will become one. On 4 October
2007 the South Korean Leader Roh Moo-Hyun and the North Korean leader Kim Jong-il signed an eight-
point peace agreement on issues of permanent peace, economic cooperation, high-level talks, renewal of
highway, air travel and train services. North Korea has carried out a controversial nuclear test and several
ballistic missile tests. A nuclear North Korea is a threat to both Japan and South Korea.
Answer
The Korean War never ended, and they are still under an armistice to this day. (Ulala)
The north was left under Kim Il Sung, and now Kim Jung Il. They live in poverty, fearful of
their "Great Leader". Families were split, and only recently have they been allowed to reunite
under the watchful eyes of the police, carefully orchestrated by the government to win favour
from the world superpowers. (Who says that?)
The south was left as a republic, and fought hard for 50 years through bad leaders and
quasi-democracy to be a success. (Walala)
The Korean War brought the US and Russia further apart, and the fear of communism would
2. later lead the US to throw itself into Vietnam, to avoid another North Korea. Back then,
communism was the big evil and the US feared North Vietnam's intentions. The world was
being divided between nations under the US and the Russian spheres.
The Korean War was a necessary show of strength on the US side, that they would do
anything to prevent the spread of communism. It also brought China into conflict with the US,
bringing bad feelings between the two countries which would last for decades.
Answer
Well probably the most significant is that the Korean Peninsula is still one of the last divided
zones left over from WWII. After the war, most of the world was divided between the
Communist and Western controlled zones. Korea was no different, except the divide was
North-South instead of East-West. The Soviets were able to administer the Northern sector
while the West was made responsible for the South. Because of UN involvement on behalf of
South Korea, the divide remained. In fact, had certain errors in judgment not been maid the
UN forces may have been able to liberate the entire peninsula. This was thrwarted due to
Chinese involvement which pushed UN forces back to the original boundary line before the
UN forces finally regrouped and managed to hold their ground. To this day, American troops
are staitioned along the border between the Koreas and there are still reports of sporadic
firing. The Korean War is technically not over; all that's keeping the two sides from going to
war again is a cease-fire agreement. That and now both sides it would seem either have, or
have allies who possess nuclear weapons. The war also created a strong bond between
South Korea and the United States, although that bond has becomes strained which as of
late given the movement in South Korea towards unification or at least to a common feeling
of brotherhood between all Koreans. This is purely my opinion, but I find the South Korean
desire to join with the North incredibly naive. Until Kim Jong Il and the autocracy that
supports him is abolished, there will never be a unified Korean Peninsula, because the US
will never abandon its positions on that line holding back the North Korean Army.
Korea may also have been looked at as a model for future anti-communist wars like Vietnam,
and thus served as a dangerous precedent. It was also one of the first serious military tasks
of the United Nations, which whore proved--at least in that era--it was capable of taking
action, even if it only was due to, to paraphrase Frederick the Great, "the divine stupidity of
our enemies." The Soviet minister to the UN was not present when the Security Council
voted to deploy military forces to aid South Korea after the North attacked, which meant that
the resolution passed.
