Flower Structure

Selfing in Mango
 Only 10 to 20% chances
 Flower is covered with muslin bag before opening of flower.
 Bag is closed so that no external pollen enter the stigma.
Crossing in Mango
 Two types of flower found in mango plants; Male and perfect
 Male Flower
 Male flower is used only to obtain pollens.
 Perfect Flower
 In case of perfect flower, female parent is emasculated before opening of
flower.
 Male parent should be gently brushed to remove anthers and immediately
bagged.
 Pollen are then sprinkled on female parent and covered with muslin bag.
 Bag is not removed unless fruit is set.
