WELCOME TO OUR LESSONABOUT...SEDIMENTARY ROCKS!
QUIZ!Let's start with a quiz to see what you guys already know.
1. Where are Sedimentary rocks formed?2. How are Sedimentary rocks formed?3. Is Limestone a Sedimentary rock?4. What does erode mean?5. Do Sedimentary rocks have layers?6. Where are they found?QUESTIONS
LESSON TIME!Now that we’re done with that littlequiz, let’s move on to the lesson.
Sedimentary rocks are formed when pieces of theearth get eroded (broken down) into tiny pieces bywind and water, and those pieces get pushed together on the grounds of water sources. They are also found by water sources. How are they formed?
Here are some examples of sedimentary rocks.Examples
Conglomerate is made up of rounded pebbles cemented together.Conglomerate
SandstoneSandstone is sand grains cemented together.
SiltstoneSiltstone is made from silt particles cemented together.
Shaleis made from silt particles cemented together. It is similar to siltstone but with even finer grain size.Shale
Limestone is made primarily of calcium carbonate or calcite. Limestone
Here are some uses of these rocksUses
It is used in construction and also polished to make ornaments. Conglomerate
It is used in the construction of buildings and monuments. You can use sandstone in concrete and tiles. Sandstone
Siltstone is of very little use other than a contributor to soil. Siltstone can also be used in sculptures and buildings.Siltstone
Shale is used, along with other rock minerals, in themanufacture of brick.Shale
Used as counter tops and flooring. It is also used to make paper white.Limestone
