This document discusses using LEGO® models to aid reflection on teaching practice through metaphors. It provides an overview of a workshop that explored using LEGO® model making to clarify thoughts and feelings and see subject matter in a new light. The workshop helped 35 students on a postgraduate certificate program reflect on their learning journeys and engage in deeper conversations during summative assessments. Making models provided a relaxed way for students to articulate their learning and the impacts of their studies on their teaching practice through metaphorical representations.

We know that learning is a process, beyond the knowledge itself. A book by itself isn’t much learning, but discussing it, applying it, arguing with it, and writing your own definitely is. In other words, ‘playing with it.’
In this slidedeck, we will gather some definitions and examples of playful learning and then we’ll ask some challenging questions of them, and how we can start thinking about corporate eLearning from the position of ‘play.’ Be prepared to discuss eLearning projects you've seen, and ideas you have to share on learning by playing.

This lecture will provide a framework for defining and choosing social media for use in the classroom, based on using a heutagogical (self-determined learning) approach to course design. The lecture will also demo a variety of ways for incorporating social media such as Twitter, e-portfolios, mind-mapping, GoogleDocs, and Diigo within the classroom.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
