• She is from the Tokushima prefecture, Japan.
• She will be entering the second semester of her
sophmore year in the fall.
• She is a music major – emphasis on trumpet.
• She also like dance and takes dance classes.
• Believes in Shintoism.
3. Schools in Japan
• Elementary school is ages 6 -12, or grades 1-6
• Middle school is ages 13 -15, or grades 7-9
- Third year of middle school is preparing for high
school.
- Counseling, studying and preparing for entrance
exams to high schools.
• High school is ages 16 – 18, or grades 10-12
- Each high school has an emphasis such as
technology, math, arts, etc.
- Kosen school system – five year program of high
school/college combined.
4. • The average school day is from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Monday through Friday.
• In all Japanese schools, except universities, students are
divided into homerooms.
• In the middle and high schools the students take placement
tests to determine their homeroom. Their placement is
usually based on their scores in math, science,
reading/writing, etc.
• Most entrance high schools have entrance exams that the
students will spend much of their third year of middle
school studying for.
5. Extra Curricular
Activities
• All sports teams, clubs and activities are extra curricular,
even in college.
- Music groups, Academic clubs, and other groups
• No scholarships or grants for sports, music, only academic.
• Although they are voluntary and extra curricular most
students chose to be in some extra curricular groups.
