Introduction The Bush administration, as well as others, hoped to close achievement gaps and
bring all children up to a higher standard. In order to do this, No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was
enacted with the hope of an extreme education reform. It requires strict accountability and
assessments for schools. This was done without proper funding and expectations that are difficult
for schools and students to reach. This act caused many problems in schools rather than fixing the
problems that already existed.

Many United States children are failing in the public schooling system. Students are dropping out
at alarming rates and those who stay are not properly prepared for college and careers. There are
vast achievement gaps leaving children behind that are minorities, come from low income families,

apparent to teachers, parents, students, employers, and society as a whole. This will leave the
United States with a workforce that is not properly educated or trained for the jobs available.
This ideology that all children regardless of income, minority, or disability should be able to

Compare and contrast the Fugitive Slave Acts of 1793 and 1850 Introduction The federal acts
of 1793 and 1850 provided for the return between states of escaped black slaves. Alike laws
existing in both North and South in colonial days applied also to white indentured servants and
to Native American slaves. Many Northern states also passed personal liberty laws that allowed
fugitives a jury trial, and others passed laws forbidding state officials to help capture alleged
fugitive slaves or to lodge them in state jails. As a concession to the South a second and more
rigorous fugitive slave law was passed as part of the Compromise of 1850. Fugitive slave laws,

Footloose Tonight I gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off my sunday shoes. Jack, get back, come
on before we crack. (Footloose, Kenny Loggins) For this essay, I chose to watch Footloose made
in 1984 and directed by Herbert Ross and Footloose made in 2011 directed by Craig Brewer.
Both movies centered around the town of Bomont, a secluded town with out of the ordinary
beliefs. In this town, dancing and partying of any sort was strictly against the law and teenagers
were seemingly miserable. There was little to no self expression and even listening to provocative
music or any music too loud, could get you a ticket with a hefty fine. The reason behind the strict
rules is that several years back, five teens from Bomont High School died in a car wreck after they
