SCENT-I-MENTAL
We live in a world that functions on sharp reflexes, instant reactions and instantaneous
judgements hence it becomes imperative for guys and gals to master the art of making a good
first impression. I consider the most important, desired and essential skill for one to function in
this day and age.
A series of recent studies for Personality and Social Psychology showed that ‘’Appearance
affects everything – from liking someone to trustworthiness...etc”.
Our first impression has the power to override what we already know about a person just by
looking at them. The SCENT of a man is a noteworthy part of the first impression that he builds
and that too in 7 seconds to make a good one.
The usual criteria for judging someone within 7 seconds frame is based on:
1. Their Style of walking
2. Their Style of dressing
3. Their Social courtesy (Greeting) and
4. Their Body SCENT
Of the above 4 the body scent forms a significant part of the assessment.
FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE LAST IMPRESSION – holds particularly true in case of body odour.
People with body odour can lose relationships and even work opportunities to great extent,
therefore it is crucial to have an insight and awareness about body odour (SCENT – I – MENTS).
Smelling good is about packaging well and people have reported that when they smell nice
they feel more capable and confident making body odour and its management increasingly
more important.
Personal Grooming thus holds extreme relevance as it gives confidence and helps other to
frame their opinion about us. So even if you are wearing the best of the brands and flaunting
your six-pack abs nothing works if you have terrible body odour.
We, as humans have tendency to recognise and remember the scent of those close to us. Our
sense of smell actually recalls odours that help in establishing our emotional and sexual
connection.
SCENT-I-MENTAL grooming suggestions:
1. Avoid random purchase of deodorants and perfumes based on advertisements and low
prices. Remember that every perfume and deodorants smells differently with different
bodies.
2. Avoid strong perfumes and deodorants during day time and in particular at work.
3. Musk and earthy tones are the best – Old Spice (Fresh water)
4. If you smoke then avoid smoking in closed areas such as car or cubicle as your clothes
absorbs the smell of tobacco. Either use mouth wash or use mint to avoid bad breath.
5. Avoid eating food with strong flavours of garlic and onion at work place.
6. Bath everyday and clean areas that promotes bacterial growth causing bad odour.
7. Trim your hairs regularly and use hair oil in moderation.
8. Apply perfumes to areas such as wrist and earlobes and back of the neck where there is
concentration of nerves.
9. Exercise regularly as it promotes detoxification – Brisk walk and Stretching
10. Avoid repeating your innerwear and socks
11. Do deep breathing exercises.
12. Once in a month preferably get your manicure and pedicure done – highly
recommended
13. Wash your feet before going to bed.
14. Change your toothbrush frequently with soft bristles. Brush your teeth before going to
bed.
15. Eat more fruits – Apple and Pears
So next time you make your move be vigilant about how you SMELL and that is what SCENT-I-
