Knowledge Graphs and Generative AI
Dr. Katie Roberts, Data Science Solutions Architect, Neo4j
It’s no secret that Large Language Models (LLMs) are popular right now, especially in the age of Generative AI. LLMs are powerful models that enable access to data and insights for any user, regardless of their technical background, however, they are not without challenges. Hallucinations, generic responses, bias, and a lack of traceability can give organizations pause when thinking about how to take advantage of this technology. Graphs are well suited to ground LLMs as they allow you to take advantage of relationships within your data that are often overlooked with traditional data storage and data science approaches. Combining Knowledge Graphs and LLMs enables contextual and semantic information retrieval from both structured and unstructured data sources. In this session, you’ll learn how graphs and graph data science can be incorporated into your analytics practice, and how a connected data platform can improve explainability, accuracy, and specificity of applications backed by foundation models.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

DDS Security Version 1.2 was adopted in 2024. This revision strengthens support for long runnings systems adding new cryptographic algorithms, certificate revocation, and hardness against DoS attacks.
We want to help customers make decisions at the right level of the technology
Based on how timely the decision is required, you don’t need to send the data to the cloud, even though the cloud is an important part of our analytics strategy, it is not required for every solution.
To make a decision on how healthy a drive is, that should happen locally, not traversing to a data lake and back;
We want to have computer and analytics at all levels of the technology, so a customer has options, whether it’s at the device, the edge, the pc server, the IDC or the cloud.
Big data vendors are taking all the data up, making latent decisions later, with no ability to close the loop.
Even historian vendors are only as good as the data they store, which is typically only data that’s required for the process, and is in the controller, which is still only data required for control and not all the capabilities of the devices.
FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices is a self-contained, ready-to-use appliance that works automatically on an industrial networks.
Through a variety of discovery strategies, the appliance finds Rockwell Automation intelligent assets (drives, controllers, switches, etc…) and self-configures data collection, analysis and display.
The system needs power and an Ethernet connection, and set-up is simple: just a few questions will get you started. What language do you speak, what time is it, and how will the appliance get an IP address. Once its on the network, the appliance does the rest. As it discovers devices on the network, it “digitizes” or “adopts” each device, collecting and historizing relevant data, analyzing the state of the device, and rendering the results in easy-to-understand ways.
At RA we will have a general purpose VersaView 5400 PC with industrial specs and no moving parts in April of 2017. With FTAD, we will take over this PC completely, treating it like an appliance… the customer NEVER interacts or installs items to/from Windows, the goal is we control the entire environment on this edge device, and the customer only ever uses a web browser or phone to use.
For now FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices works with Ethernet/IP devices, with varying depth of analysis that will expand over time. While the system can provide basic diagnostic status information for any Ethernet/IP device, we have a deeper analytic profile for 2095 Rockwell Automation devices, and will be adding more continuously.
In the future, we’re looking to add protocol support for different kinds of automation devices based on feedback from our customers.
What would be possible if machine performance could be monitored from anywhere by the people that know the most about them and that can help manufacturers achieve higher availability and throughput, reduce maintenance costs and operate those machines at the top of their potential?
What if machine builders could learn from the machines deployed and use that knowledge to be able to better partner with the users to maximize the lifetime value of the asset?
Enables manufacturers to increase enterprise productivity and reduce costs by using plant assets, materials and labor more efficiently. This is accomplished through real-time communication of operational KPIs, and review and analysis of production performance and losses.
Pre-built functionality required by Discrete, Hybrid & Process manufactures
True Thin Client – Modern user experience and reduced IT infrastructure cost
Standalone or Integrated into ProductionCentre MES
Unlimited # of Ad-Hoc user configured reports
Operational performance dashboard
Premier Integration – adds value to existing Rockwell investment
Configurable user workflows
When adding equipment or balancing the workload on a line, the workflow at each piece of equipment needs to be easy to create or reconfigure. Factory Talk Production lets manufacturers create operator workflows using build plan wizards.
To add or change a workflow, operators simply drag widgets to/around the workflow and configure properties. The workflows are flexible and can be associated with stations, processes or operators.
Widgets are open-sourced and can be created or extended from templates, making them easy to deploy.
FactoryTalk Production includes a set of reports and dashboards to help with analysis of the order process and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This enables receipt of scheduled orders and provides automated, real-time information for immediate Work in Process (WIP) updates such as order status, material consumption and process deviations.
Achieve more efficient and profitable operations by managing and controlling the order process from initiation through final shipment.
Synchronize production activities
Improve work-instruction delivery to personnel
Better manage material flow from warehouses and suppliers
Sustain continuous improvement with manufacturing context for operational procedures
Integrate genealogy reporting
Key Point: Premier Integration with FactoryTalk Products
This allows you to further your investment in our FactoryTalk line of software by connecting to the systems you may have already deployed and allowing for a higher level of reporting and analytics by combining data from each system.
Example: A plant manager received funding to put in FactoryTalk Metrics to help increase the overall OEE on a packaging line. Later on that year, a corporate energy leader received funding for FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix to monitor the energy usage on the line in order to reduce the overall energy consumption. Each of these products do a great job and allow for an increase in OEE as well as Energy Consumption reduction. However, at some point down the road it is determined that if you were able to tie energy consumption to machine state and production, further savings and efficiency can be gained. By configuring FactoryTalk Vantagepoint, you can mash up data from you FactoryTalk Metrics (for your machine state and production information) with FactoryTalk EnergyMetrix (for energy consumption information) and now you’re able to see a wealth of information without having to modify or change the source systems data!
Key Points: Many different Data Sources at the Physical Layer. Context provided by organizing that data in a logical model. This allows your users to view the data in the way they want to see it – not based on where it is stored in the plant and what it’s engineering name is. When you build the logical model, data remains in it’s source and all of your visualization / reports calls into that UPM. For example, if you have a report that is utilizing a total production count and down the road, the plc that stores that value is changed, you just change the pointer in the model – all of the reports that utilize that counter remain unchanged. Also once you build that logical model you can reuse that content across areas / lines / plants. Just because Line 1 may have a different physical setup than Line 2 – you still want to see total output across those lines in a standard way. The UPM allows you to build standards in your reporting in a world where very few things are standard from manufacturing asset to asset.

Both perform online optimization. Streaming optimization is ambiguous in my (Bijan’s) opinion.
Streaming Optimization – load optimization on up to 16 units. Real-Time Optimization is the default: go to Streaming Optimization when: models aren’t in library, returns are too low and problem is fairly straight-forward (e.g. moderately obvious solution).
Jason Shaw is PM for 1756 Compute Module
Add Studio5000 picture
Ask customer/audience – do we need to highlight ‘backplane communication’
Streaming Insights is the default, can I get it to work. It will delivery well on 70% of the Soft Sensor targets – so use it first and leverage Soft Sensor as an upgrade if it doesn’t work. Also lease option makes this simple to try. You need batch engineering driving for: complex models (many variables with dynamics).
