The former CNR site offers an unparalleled opportunity for the City of Stratford to strengthen and link the downtown, adjacent neighbourhoods and beyond through the creation of a holistic and integrated Downie District Framework Plan.
The plan presents a valuable opportunity to advance the City’s planning and economic development goals.
The Downie District will reflect the highest order of city building principles.
It will provide a model for ecologically sensitive, adaptive, entrepreneurial, and walkable urban development.
Presentation by David Burney, Commissioner, NYC Department of Design and Construction. Given at the 2011 Urban Systems Symposium, as part of the Real Estate Development panel.
For 12,000 years, the Mississippi River has powered through Minnesota, where it’s scrawled a deep gorge like a signature through limestone and prairie. The source of this massive geological imprint was the River’s only true waterfall, now known as St. Anthony Falls, which receded over millennia and now graces the heart of Minneapolis. It is this unique geography, geology and history that inspired a schematic vision for a new destination park on the West Bank of St. Anthony Falls, developed by the Minneapolis Parks Foundation in partnership with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, and conveyed to Park Board Commissioners on Wednesday, October 22, in the form of a design presentation and 3D flythrough animation.

Landscape architecture is about catching a fleeting moment of our environment and making it legible through design. These moments, over time, reveal a process that was hidden in plain sight. This portfolio showcases my design strategies to change perception and acknowledge process based design, with each of these projects at different scales.
While landscape architecture has taught me the value of all the qualities that go into shaping our space, my education in architecture backs that up with intricate working details. My strongest skills are that of design detailing and exploring representation through mixed media.
Every project in the following pages opens me up to diverse explorations and my passion for this unknown adventure is what I hope for even in the professional realm.

As a result of its history and expansion from the
Eastern part, Tyre is characterized by urban corridors
leading from the Northern part to the Southern beach.
My goal is to stress on the cultural tourism,
encouraging people to understand the city through its
spirit and history, using three different sensations:
physical, mental and visual.
The approach is to create a promenade through the
corridors of the old city, making it a live outdoor
exhibition space, which like a story, will vividly describe
the complete historical image and climax in a «New
Centrality» or more specifically a tripod of activities: a
Hammam, an Archeological Museum, and finally an
observation tower which will freeze the city`s moments
through its openings on one hand, and act as a
monumental light house on the other hand.

8. 07 JOUNIEH : TRAMSPORT
Unfortunately, Jounieh is suffering from an apparent
failure of the communal infrastructural system that
calls out for a new strategic plan which would tackle
the current problematics in an efficient manner.
on a regional level, the proposal was to create an
intermediate elevated tramway in the middle of the
highway. this tramway would be elevated about 8 meters
from the highway and will have some pedestrians
piazzas integrated at an intermediate level of 5 meters.
In addition to these piazzas, this pedestrian activity
will be further accentuated through shuffling the
pedestrians from the highway peripheries towards the
adjacent neighborhoods by extruding the commercial
highway shops towards them.
On a local level, a bus transportation system was
implemented in the city.

The design is based upon the spirit of the roman bath which involves socializing in a common open space. The
context which happens to be an industrial zone, lead to an introverted approach which plays on the elements
of surprise between the exterior and the interior on one hand, and between the circulation and functions of
spaces on the other hand.
The central element of the atrium is an aqua zone around which the functions and continuos circulation are
distributed. As for the Light, it is filtered to the interior through perforated brick walls and vertical
wooden louvers, thus creating a dramatic environment that pulls the project from its context, yet reviving
the ghost of the previous hangar.

11. 13 BERLIN : THE BIOMORPHIC DREAM
The floating theater and its performances, aim to embody Leonardo Da
Vinci`s dissection of the fetus, where its central position in the womb
represents man at the center of the universe. This enduces an
«egocentric» unity between people at the state of creation, where they are
all equal, hence eradicating the site`s divisive history. this fetus
emerging to life from the womb is emulated by the spherical structure of
the theater, with a skylight at its top, inspired by the Pantheon. the light
emerging from the atrium is directed upon a massive transparent rubber
platform filled with water, which is set in motion by performers mounting
it, creating dancing like silhouettes above a standing audience. This
audience experience rebirth simultaneously by transcending from
darkness at the bottom of the sphere, along the rising earth, on a ramp
reaching the translucent platform, with the performance above them is
coupled with musicians incrusted inside the double skin of the sphere.
This biomorphic dream is enhanced further upon exiting the theater to the
deck overlooking the washing water and light on the spherical facade.

12. 15 BLAT, BYBLOS : BLATFORMS
With the expansion of the Lebanese American University in
Blat, Byblos, the city began to expand as well as its needs.
So, based on the citizens needs in general, and the
students needs in particular the program was decided
which mainly consists of a mall, commercial shops, gym,
library, and finally a dormatory.
Since the site is a very steep slope terrain, Blatforms was
designed in a way to connect to the adjacent street
through public horizontal platforms that would enhance
the public activity in the area, making the accessibility
fluent and welcoming.

degrees of materialized envelope designs were
filtered, regarding them as an interface where
culture and history meet both in social

This lead to a noble insertion, « The

combining different functions including
commercial shops, offices, exhibition spaces,
hotel, and low cost residential units in a
single 500m2
