Jeffrey Word presents on SAP's in-memory database technology called SAP HANA and its role in enabling real-time business. SAP HANA provides a unified platform for both transactions and analytics by storing all data in main memory, allowing for fast real-time queries and insights. This represents an evolution from traditional disk-based systems that are unable to meet the demands of today's real-time business needs. SAP's vision is for SAP HANA to serve as the database for the SAP Business Suite and other applications, simplifying enterprise architectures and accelerating key processes.
The material was created around 2010-end, but published February'2011.
The main purposes of creating this document were as follows:
- very very few people working on SAP HANA at that time
- information regarding SAP HANA not really available and if available, it was scattered !!
- always pulled for presentations and technical demos which generally hampered my own hands-on work :). And I was alone at San Jose whereas Ulrich used to busy in Walldorf coordinating with SAP.
BTW, it was my full-fledged first SAP HANA presentation in end of 2010, although published in 2011. The document is quite old now but most of the part still holds good as of today.

1) SAP HANA is an in-memory database that allows for real-time analytics by storing and processing large amounts of data in memory rather than on disk.
2) It provides faster processing speeds than traditional disk-based databases by keeping all the data in RAM, allowing for faster queries, reporting, planning and advanced analytics.
3) SAP HANA combines both software and optimized hardware to deliver an in-memory computing platform for real-time analytics and applications.
SAP HANA is an in-memory database that allows companies to analyze large volumes of data in real-time. HANA the “Hot cake” of the market. I have been hearing about HANA since the beginning of this decade or even earlier. Initially I thought it was just a new database, so why the fuss? My crooked mind used to say: may be SAP does not want to share the market revenue with any other database provider (competitors); therefore they came up with their own database. Pat SAP for Smart Business Acumen. :)
Later I had a notion that HANA is only for BI/BW folks, so being an ABAPer – why should I care? Everyone used to talk about analysis and modelling. So, I used to think, let the BI/BW modelers worry about HANA.
Then the rumour started in market; ABAP and ABAPer are going to be extinct in near future. I used to wonder, if ABAPer are going to die, then who in this whole universe would support those tons and tons of ABAP code written in the history of SAP Implementations? What will happen to all those time, effort and money spent in those large and small scales SAP Implementations? What a waste of rumour!!
This document outlines the long history of collaboration between SUSE, SAP, and IBM to deliver customer solutions. It notes several milestones in their partnerships dating back to 1999 and highlights how IBM Power Systems provides a reliable, high-performance platform for running mission-critical SAP applications like SAP HANA. Customers testify that the IBM and SAP solutions have improved their performance while reducing costs. The document also promotes an upcoming webinar about using SUSE Linux Enterprise and IBM Power Systems for SAP HANA.
In today’s date the SAP HANA is considered as the most hot cake in the IT industry as it has revolutionaries the IT Industry by its Performance and In-Memory computing. Leverage the Power of SAP HANA with Microsoft Azure Cloud MigrationCapgemini
ERP nirvana is building a digital enterprise as you modernize your legacy SAP environment. SAP HANA and the Azure cloud are digital tools giving rise to new opportunities to change the way we work, communicate and sell.
Capgemini's mission is to enable digital business transformation through the power of SAP HANA and the Azure cloud.
Our experts in rapid cloud transformation, risk control, speedier end-to-end migrations, and optimized costs will share our industrialized migration approach for an accelerated migration to SAP HANA.
Presented at SAPPHIRE NOW 2016.
SAP HANA is an in-memory database platform that stores transactional data in memory for real-time analytics by eliminating disk input/output lag; it uses columnar storage with efficient compression and built-in indexing for each column to enable fast queries and joins; SAP HANA features include predictive analytics, multitenant containers, high availability, and tools for data modeling, administration, and development.
The last session showcased the know-how that lives within Ctac to take our customers on a journey, a journey to Suite on HANA and ultimately to S/4 HANA. We've got everything in place to guide you there. Questions such as what is S/4 HANA from a technical point of view and how do I get there, what do I do once I'm running on HANA were answered before we went for a drink.
Cloud, big data, sap, hana, iot, ms azure & way forwardAjay Kumar Uppal
This document discusses how cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and enterprise applications are interrelated. It provides a typical architecture for IoT that leverages cloud services, connected devices, and business applications. The document also notes that IoT generates large amounts of big data, and cloud computing provides storage and processing capabilities for that big data.
The document discusses different methods for sizing SAP systems, including initial sizing methods like hardware budget sizings, advanced sizings, and expert sizings. It also covers post go-live sizing methods such as resizing, delta sizing, and upgrade sizing. Hardware budget sizings require little customer information and make many assumptions to provide an initial hardware cost estimate. Advanced sizings use tools and standard questionnaires. Expert sizings combine tools with additional measurements of customer processes. Post go-live methods analyze productive customer data and system monitors to size changes to existing live systems.
The document provides an overview of hybrid architectures and how to design, build, and manage distributed applications across hybrid infrastructures using Amazon Web Services. It discusses topics like interconnectivity, availability, security, hybrid networks with AWS VPC and Direct Connect, and automated provisioning with AWS CloudFormation and configuration management with AWS OpsWorks. Example hybrid architectures are also presented, including a SAP HANA deployment across an on-premises data center and AWS VPC, and a company running applications in multiple cloud providers.

Dive into the realm of operating systems (OS) with Pravash Chandra Das, a seasoned Digital Forensic Analyst, as your guide. 🚀 This comprehensive presentation illuminates the core concepts, types, and evolution of OS, essential for understanding modern computing landscapes.
Beginning with the foundational definition, Das clarifies the pivotal role of OS as system software orchestrating hardware resources, software applications, and user interactions. Through succinct descriptions, he delineates the diverse types of OS, from single-user, single-task environments like early MS-DOS iterations, to multi-user, multi-tasking systems exemplified by modern Linux distributions.
Crucial components like the kernel and shell are dissected, highlighting their indispensable functions in resource management and user interface interaction. Das elucidates how the kernel acts as the central nervous system, orchestrating process scheduling, memory allocation, and device management. Meanwhile, the shell serves as the gateway for user commands, bridging the gap between human input and machine execution. 💻
The narrative then shifts to a captivating exploration of prominent desktop OSs, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Windows, with its globally ubiquitous presence and user-friendly interface, emerges as a cornerstone in personal computing history. macOS, lauded for its sleek design and seamless integration with Apple's ecosystem, stands as a beacon of stability and creativity. Linux, an open-source marvel, offers unparalleled flexibility and security, revolutionizing the computing landscape. 🖥️
Moving to the realm of mobile devices, Das unravels the dominance of Android and iOS. Android's open-source ethos fosters a vibrant ecosystem of customization and innovation, while iOS boasts a seamless user experience and robust security infrastructure. Meanwhile, discontinued platforms like Symbian and Palm OS evoke nostalgia for their pioneering roles in the smartphone revolution.
The journey concludes with a reflection on the ever-evolving landscape of OS, underscored by the emergence of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and the persistent quest for innovation and efficiency. As technology continues to shape our world, understanding the foundations and evolution of operating systems remains paramount.
