The document discusses newborn mortality rates around the world. It states that a newborn baby dies every 8 seconds, almost 10,000 per day. The three main causes of neonatal death account for over 80% of cases. Low-income countries have significantly fewer healthcare resources per capita than high-income countries. Kangaroo mother care, where the baby is held skin to skin, can reduce preterm baby deaths by 51%. The document outlines design principles for low-cost, easy to use, and robust medical devices to improve newborn health in resource-poor areas.

Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Krishna (an avatar of the god Vishnu), located in the town of Guruvayur in Kerala, India. It is one of the most important places of worship for Hindus of Kerala and is often referred to as "Bhuloka Vaikunta" which translates to the "Holy Abode of Vishnu on Earth".
The presiding deity of the Guruvayur Temple is Vishnu, worshipped in the form of Krishna. The central icon is a four-armed standing Krishna carrying the conch Panchajanya, the discus Sudarshana Chakra, the maceKaumodaki and a lotus with a Holy basil garland. This image represents the majestic form of Vishnu as revealed to Krishna's parents Vasudeva and Devaki around the time of Krishna's birth; hence Guruvayur is also known as "Dwarka of South India". He is currently worshipped according to routines laid down by Adi Shankara and later written formally in the Tantric way, the inter-religious spiritual movement that arose in medieval India, by Cennas Narayanan Nambudiri (born in 1427). The Cennas Nambudiris are the hereditary tantris (high priest) of the Guruvayur Temple.
The temple (puja) routines are strictly followed. The tantri is available full-time at the Temple to ensure this. The Melsanti (Chief Priest) enters the sanctum sanctorum in the morning and does not drink anything up to the completion of "noon worships" at 12:30 PM. Non-Hindus are not allowed in the temple.

By now you no longer need convincing. Wikipedia is not only a ubiquitous reference platform for our users, but is also home to a thriving, global volunteer community that is eager to distribute the deeper expertise residing in museums. So now what? As a group of Wikipedians who help museums share content, GLAM-Wiki has made great strides in formalizing over the past few years. But how do museum technologists better connect and interface with this resource? How can we work together to more efficiently share our media, research, and expertise?
This presentation shares the current progress of the GLAM-Wiki infrastructure, offering insights into how museums can best connect with the Wikipedia community in order to share cultural resources on the globally accessible platform. The future of GLAM-Wiki will be considered, including a proposed model that will allow museums to support one another in Wikipedia-focused endeavors.

The Challenge of Career Diversity for Humanities PhDsRobert Townsend
This document contains several graphs and charts about trends in humanities education and employment in the United States:
- Faculty in humanities fields are increasingly employed in contingent or non-tenure track positions rather than tenure-track roles.
- Job openings advertised by humanities societies have declined since the early 2000s for most fields.
- While many doctorate holders in the humanities go into postsecondary teaching, significant portions also work in management, business, and other non-academic fields.
- Earnings for humanities doctorate holders tend to be lower than for other fields such as engineering, physical sciences, and health professions. Women also earn less than men in most fields.
This document outlines questions for a PhD tracking study organized into key categories: 1) occupation and employment details, 2) location, 3) relevance of PhD to current work, 4) field of study, and 5) demographics. It also notes challenges in using online searches to find subjects and questions that require follow-up surveys about subjects' goals, experiences, satisfaction and aspirations.

From Problems to Solutions: Recruiting, Training, and Placing History PhDs in...Robert Townsend
This document contains data on history PhD programs and career outcomes from 1970-2013. It shows that while the number of history PhDs awarded has increased substantially, academic job openings have remained relatively flat. As a result, fewer than half of new PhDs now enter tenure-track academic jobs. The document also presents data showing the median time spent in history PhD programs has increased in recent years. It analyzes PhD employment outcomes by field of specialization and institution type, finding most history PhDs take jobs outside of academia.

Presentation to the DC Higher Education Group on the state of the humanities, with recent findings from the department survey and Humanities Indicators.
This document analyzes trends in history PhD programs and careers over time. It finds that while the number of history PhD recipients has increased since the early 20th century, job openings have not kept pace. As a result, most history PhD holders end up in non-tenure track academic jobs or non-academic careers. The document also examines diversity in history degrees over time and finds programs have become more diverse but challenges remain. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of reform efforts having clear objectives and shared responsibility across departments.
History today often seems deeply divided, as public historians and educators complain about the disengagement of academics and college and university professors pursue increasingly esoteric subjects of research. Robert Townsend will speak on the findings of his recent book, History's Babel, which looks back to the early decades of the historical enterprise to show how efforts to professionalize pushed history specialists (in archives, historical societies, and teaching) away from each other. This seminar presentation will offer a wide-ranging discussion of the many different professions of history and what they mean for the discipline.

Here’s a look back at what happened and the exciting developments that emerged from our collaborative efforts.
A Gathering of Minds
We were thrilled to see a diverse group of attendees, including local certified PMI trainers and both new and experienced members eager to contribute their perspectives. The workshop was structured into three dynamic discussion sessions, each led by our dedicated membership advocates.
Key Takeaways and Future Directions
The insights and feedback gathered from these discussions were invaluable. Here are some of the key takeaways and the steps we are taking to address them:
• Enhanced Resource Accessibility: We are working on a new, user-friendly resource page that will make it easier for members to access training materials and real-world application guides.
• Structured Mentorship Program: Plans are underway to launch a mentorship program that will connect members with experienced professionals for guidance and support.
• Increased Networking Opportunities: Expect to see more frequent and varied networking events, both virtual and in-person, to help you build connections and foster a sense of community.
