As the human population continues to grow rapidly due to decreased mortality and increased birth rates, it puts strain on the planet's finite land, water, food, fossil fuels and biodiversity. With the population estimated to reach 15 billion by 2100, issues like pollution, loss of habitat, food scarcity, economic instability, and human rights violations related to population control policies are likely to worsen if not addressed through education and availability of family planning resources. Overpopulation threatens the long-term carrying capacity of the Earth unless action is taken to promote sustainable development.
