Russian Financial Crisis (1998)
Topic 3: Russian financial crisis (1998)
1.0 Introduction
Affected by the Southeast Asian financial crisis, Russia suffered from the financial
crisis in May 1998 followed the crisis in October 1997. The crisis initially reflected
on currency market and security market. As a result, foreign capital about one third of
the total amount of Russian national debts faced large scale capital flight; exchange
rate depreciated and stock market suffered a large setback; re lending interest rate
once reached up to 150%. Stock market, bond market and currency market basically
fell into halts, and banks were incapable to handle residents withdrawals. (Desai,
2000) In brief, the operation of the whole financial system and economy was almost

Therefore, the Russian government planned to issue 6 billion of European bonds in
1998. On July 13 1998, the government borrowed 22.6 billion dollars from western
financial institutions led by IMF. (Lucey and Voronkova, 2008)
Thirdly, the government prolonged the redemption date of all the debts to relieve the
repayment peak. The major problem for the Russian government was lack of debt
paying ability to quick liabilities. However, most of debts at that time were short term
liabilities within one year. If the government couldn t repay them in time, it would
suffer from serious debt crisis in three years. Therefore, the government must change
the term structure of repayment and repaid quick liabilities by borrowing funded
debts. On August 1, the government published economic programs of stabilizing the
finance, but investors had no confidence about whether the programs could have
expected effects. (Shleifer and Treisman, 2000) Besides, the investors were not
willing to buy Russian negotiable securities and even dumped the securities in their
hands. Facing internal and external troubles, the government pushed three tough
emergency measures such as enlarging the region of Rouble s exchange rate
fluctuations and turning the upper limit of Rouble s exchange rate down to 9.5:1,
delaying 90 days of repaying due external debts, and shifting the redemptions date of
internal debts. Later, the Central bank straightforward announced to let
Difference Between Formal And Informal Learning
The text being analyzed is Informal vs. Formal learning: What s the Difference.
Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a meaning of informal and formal
learning, which is interesting because it seems like there are only two ways of
learning in life. Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a simplistic meaning
of what informal and formallearningis. Furthermore, the text states that formal
learning is like a bus, the driver decides where the bus is going, and the passengers
are along with the ride (Cournoyer 2012). Additionally, this is an interesting way
to explain formal learning because there is one force that is in control of how
everyone is supposed to learn. In this example, the person driving the bus is
independent of driving while the passengers are dependent to when the driver
makes it s stops. The point to make across is that if the formal force makes an error,
then the people who are not the force are at risk. Secondly, informal learning is like
a bike because the rider chooses the destination, and the route. Formal learning has
much more structure than informal learning because informality has more
flexibility. Formal learning is considered to have more control over the learning
experience (Cournoyer 2012). The article from class being analyzed here is

article is about how people experience reading through a formal and informal way.

Sprained Wrist Injury
sprained wrist is a common injury in all kinds of people, active and non active. A
sprain occurs when an extreme twist, bend or impact forces the wrist out of its usual
angles of rotation into a position beyond its normal range of motion, tearing the
ligaments. There are three didn t grades of sprains that can occur in the wrist just
like the hamstring sprain meaning it is important to see a psychotherapist as soon as
possible so that they are able to assess the problem and devise a rehabilitation
programme to fit the nature of the injury.
1 7 days post injury acute stage
Such as with any sprain injury or acute injury, applying the PRICE principles of
protection is an important first step to help with the recovery of the sprain.
This acronym stands for Protection. By protecting the damaged wrist is stops it from
becoming prone to further injury. Rest. Resting the wrist is important so that there
isn t added pressure put onto the ligament which could set the recovery stage back
further as it could cause chronic damage. Ice. Applying ice to the damaged area will
help to reduce the pain and reduce the swelling that may occur due to the injury. A
way to apply the ice effectively is to do it for 10 minutes then remove it for 10
minutes and apply it again for 10 minutes, repeating this every 1 2 hours for a 48 72
hour period. Compression. Compressing the injured area will help to minimize the
swelling. Although some of the swelling is unavoidable, too much swelling may
cause loss of function, more pain and worse blood ... Show more content on

In some cases, it is clear and in other it isn t therefore further tests will need to be
carried out. If the wrist sprain is severe then the physiotherapist may choose that
immobilizing the wrist is best and put it into a splint for 1 2 weeks so that the
ligaments have time to
Hispanic Culture And Latino Culture
My words sound uneven and irrational because it has become so easy to mix my
Spanish and English together when you learned both languages at the same time, my
mother signals to her head in agreement because for over the past few years of my
life she has learned to better understand my Spanglish.
Growing up between two cultures I always wonder whether I am worthy enough to
be part of the Latino community. Both of my parents are immigrants from Mexico by
crossing the border to the United States with little knowledge of speaking English. I
grew up in a predominantly African American suburb so I grew up learning mostly
English and learned American ways. During school there wasn t any structure for
Latino kids during my time to have the opportunity to fully develop the Spanish
language; therefore, all my classes consisted of me speaking English only for long
periods of time.
I learned through an article on immigration policy that during the year, 2000, overall
1,000,000 immigrants have migrated to the United States every year or so. For
some reason, they bring their loves ones but leave behind their language to fit within
our current society. I notice that language is an important factor for many past
generations of what makes their identity and culture. Therefore, it could be terrifying
to ask: Am I Latino enough for those who are second/third generation just like me?
This takes me to a time, I won a scholarship from Hispanic Heritage Foundation.

At The Dark End Of The Street
At the Dark End of the Street, is a novel that takes back to the terrifying experience
Recy Taylor had in Abbeville, Alabama. Taylor was gang raped by six white men
in the 1940s. This scene immediately shows readers the civil rights movement
during the 20th century and how important it was in understanding what was
happening. Danielle McGuire is the author of At the Dark End of the Street, which
was published in 2010. However, This Nonviolent Stuff ll Get You Killed, is a
novel that focuses on King s protection during the Montgomery bus boycott that took
place in Montgomery, Alabama. Charles E. Cobb is the author of This Nonviolent
Stuff ll Get You Killed, and was published in 2014. Both of these novels focus their
points on different and similar aspects of the civil rights movement. When Cobb
wrote This Nonviolent Stuff ll Get You Killed, he focuses on the protection African
Americans needed in order to not get killed completing everyday tasks, like going
grocery shopping. Even on public transportation, civil rights activist felt threatened to
the point of bringing weapons and concealing them on their personnel. Even though
both novels take place during different times of the Civil Rights Movement they both
show the similar hardships important figures played during this movement. Rosa
Parks is remembered by her valiant attempt to deny moving to the back of the bus.
Even though she denied to relocate on the Montgomery bus, she was still forced to

The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War Essay
The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War
To this day the Spanish Civil War is still remembered as the single most pivotal
moment in the history of Spanish politics. The only way of understanding how
600,000 Spaniards were killed between 1936 and 1939 is to ask ourselves why the
civil war broke out in Spain in 1936. There were a number of reasons which led to the
civil war in Spain. The main and most significant being the increased political
polarization between the left and right wing parties.
This polarization primarily began within Spanish society, which had been
characterized by its strong religious beliefs and conservative values, as it remained a
strict Roman Catholic country for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, was the conservative nationalists represented by the Church, the
army and many large landowners and industrialists. Most of which wanted Spain to
return to the Golden Ages of sixteenth century Catholic Spain and were in favour of
the Monarchy in order to remain an authoritarian state. This division was highlighted
further by a number of pronunciamientos[6] and uprisings between the two sides
adding to the increased political tension.
For the right, they saw the defence of religious interests as their fundamental political
task. [7] Whereas, the liberals reflected the increasingly anti Catholic feeling
throughout Spain. Therefore, it can be understood why the liberal views on the
Church, and its policies within the second republic to reduce the Church s power,
angered the right wing parties enough for them to retaliate through a number of
uprisings throughout Spain. Especially during the declaration of the second republic
stating that Spain no longer possessed an official religion.
During the constitutional monarchy of Alfonso CIII, the left was frustrated by the
farce of the electoral system[8], which up until the second republic was formed on
the 14th April 1931, remained in favour of local bosses, also given
Mental Health And Mental Disorders
LP4 Assignment: Healthy People 2020 Shelbi Murphy National American
University Mental health and mental disorders are related in that which they both
deal with the mind, they either have productive or detrimental effects on the
individual. Mental health is basically when an individual is performing and being
productive with in society. The individual has the ability to cope with specific
issues and address those issues without cause. Mental disorders are any condition
that is diagnosable through the DSM 5, and causes mood and behavioral changes.
Mental disorders can have long lasting effects on individuals and can contribute to
many long term disabilities, behavioral issues, impulse control, irrational thought
process, and ineffectively being able to be a productive part of society. Statistics
on Mental Health Disorders Mental disorders are common in the United States
and internationally. An estimated 22.1% of Americans ages 18 and older about 1
in 5 adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Approximately
18.8 million American adults, or about 9.5 percent of the U.S. population age 18
and older in a given year, have a depressive disorder. Nearly twice as many women
(12.0 percent) as men (6.6 percent) are affected by a depressive disorder each year.
These figures translate to 12.4 million women and 6.4 million men in the U.S.
(Medicine Net, October 2, 2015). Mental disorders are among the most common
causes of disability. The
The Assassination Of Francisco Gonzalez Pizarro s Life
Born Francisco Gonzalez Pizarro to Gonzalo Pizarro and Francisca Gonzalez,
Pizarro was an illegitimate son in a society that canonised breeding. He was
abandoned by his father, a poor infantry colonel, and grew up in the poverty
stricken Trujillo, Spain. The exact date of his birth is unknown, but he is thought to
to have been born some time between 1470 and 1471. Pizarro was given little or no
education, and he remained illiterate throughout his life. His mother, Francisca
Gonzalez, married later in life, and gave birth to Pizarro s half brother, Francisco
MartГn de AlcГЎntara. Alcantara would later accompany Pizarro on his conquest of
Peru.
In 1510, inspired by tales of the New World, Francisco Pizarrojoined Alonzo de
Ojeda on an unsuccessful voyage to Columbia. Undaunted, in 1513, he
accompanied Balboa on his march across the Isthmus of Panama. This venture was
successful in its discovery of Pacific Ocean. A year later, Pedrarias Davila succeeded
to Balboa as governor of Castilla de Oro. Pizarro became a ... Show more content on

During this period, a new governor was appointed, as Davila intended to launch
his own endeavour towards Nicaragua. His successor, Pedro de los Rios, took
office in July 1526, and added his approval to that of Davila. With the same
objective as the previous expedition, the conquistadores set out with 160 men and
horses. Having learnt from his previous experience, Pizarro led the group up as far
as the San Juan river. Here, they separated, with Pizarro s navigator leading half of
the party on south, to continue sailing towards the equator. Pizarro remained on land,
leading all but a small number of the remaining group further inland to explore the
swamps on the coast, while the rest returned to Panama under the command of

Year-Round School System
One of the key fundamentals in the daily life of an individual is education, most of
the achievements that have been made are because of knowledge that was gained
through education. It is also known that through education, one gets empowered to do
many things so that he or she can become successful in life. Because of these, school
systems are seen to be important in our society. There have been suggestions to
change the current educationsystem to a year round schoolsystem. It means that the
learners will have at most one month vacation instead of the two to three months
vacation that is provided by the current system. A year round schooling system is a
bad idea because of the pedagogical or educational reasons, economic reasons, and
the social reasons. Having a year round school system will cost more. The learners
will not have a chance to look for summer jobs, some of the students depend on
these jobs to meet their financial needs. Many students take up summer jobs so
that they can save money to use in school or pay up for services that they need.
Such a system will also cost the parents and guardians more; they should pay more
fees in school so that the children can be kept in school longer. They also should give
their children money for upkeep in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The burnout will not only be caused by the long working hours of teachers and
students learning time but also the depression and cynicism that is brought by lack
of control in carrying out work (Rouse et al. 304). One of the reasons that a year
round system was suggested was to improve the education standards. It means that the
students and teachers will have to work more than they have been working, this is a
bad idea as it will cause burnouts that will lead to chronic stress, ill health, and
unhappiness in both teachers and students which will be quite difficult to deal with.
Eventually, the education levels might become worse than they are
A Black Woman Sat Beside Us
A black woman sat beside us. She was on the phone telling someone about her
injured foot. Meanwhile, her leg was stretched out and as people passed they eyed
her, questioning her right to take up that much room. Maybe she was bored.
Maybe she was loopy from medication. Maybe she just needed to talk to someone
else and there we were. After she got off the phone, she started telling us too of her
injury. It s hard to move around, she told us. I ve been out all day trying to find a
new job and my foot hurts like hell. What happened? Fell down my apartment stairs
last week. You should have someone helping you, especially walking around in the
city, I said. She sighed. I know. My son was supposed to help me but he s got this...

There was silence, I imagined her internally questioning why she was telling two
white people the problems they would probably never face, but that didn t stop her
from telling us the ending. They hired a white girl to replace me. She was being
trained the day I left. They can t just do that can they? I asked. They already did, she
said. I grew up checking off the Caucasian box, not knowing what this privilege
meant until moments like this. And this wasn t some dramatic event like the stories
we saw unfolding on the news where white policemen killed innocent black people. It
wasn t like those movies I saw: Do the Right Thing, where a pizza shop burned to
the ground due to violence caused by racial differences or in Bamboozled when
the black characters were shot to death and the white man was left standing,
begging to know why he wasn t shot too. This moment was subtle, but still, it
erupted in my life like a tiny, homemade bomb that left everything I owned
disheveled, almost destroyed forever. It made me want to ask all those in power
until I got an answer why progress has not been completely made. I can continue to

Virginia Mason Hospital
What were reasons for implementing lean management at Virginia Mason Hospital?
Lean thinking begins with driving out waste so that all work adds value and serves
the customer s needs. Identifying value added and non value added steps in every
process is the beginning of the journey toward lean operations. In order for lean
principles to take root, leaders must first work to create an organizational culture that
is receptive to lean thinking. The commitment to lean must start at the very top of the
organization, and all staff should be involved in helping to redesign processes to
improve flow and reduce waste. Although health care differs in many ways from
manufacturing, there are also surprising similarities: Whether building a car or...

The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of
the cost of medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab
results, phone messages, often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list
bear further explanation. The No Layoff Policy is critical to the success of
implementing lean management. People will more fully commit and engage in
improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves out of a
job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to
reassign staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well:
Staff, especially in health care, do not typically view themselves as working for the
organization, but for their individual department and/or care team. In lean thinking,
the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff/providers must come to
understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be reassigned
depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a
fundamental element of the TPS, known as stopping the line. Every worker in the
Toyota plant has the power and the obligation to stop the assembly line when a
defect or error is identified or even suspected. Workers pull a cord, a light goes on,
music plays as a signal for supervisors to come and help, and the

Research Paper On Chromatography
Chromatography media selection
By Catherine Shaffer M.Sc.
Chromatography is a technique for separation of mixtures. The name combines the
greek chroma, or color, with graphein, to write. The technique was invented in 1900
by Mikhail Tsvet, who used it to write the colors of plant pigments like chlorophyll
carotenes, and xanthophylls. He did that by dissolving the plant mixtures in a fluid,
or mobile phase, and allowing it to flow through a solid material called a stationary
phase. The components of the mixture flow through the stationary phase material at
different rates, creating waves or bands. Originally, those bands were detected by
visible color differences. Detection methods are now based on the chemical and
physical properties of the molecules being separated, including but not limited to
color, UV absorbance, size, charge, and hydrophobicity.
In modern chromatographic separations, the stationary phase comes in the form of
media, either pre packed in a chromatography column, or added by the user to the
separation apparatus. The choice of media depends on the type of molecule being
separated, the means of separation, the purpose and scale of separation, and the
desired purity of the separated sample.

Should Biofuel Be Allowed In Australia
A scientific research that has been undertaken in CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific
Industrial Research Organisation) and will be the greatest benefit for the society as
well as the environment is biofuel. Biofuel is a liquid fuel that has been derived from
other materials such as waste plants and animal matter; the most commonly extracted
type of biofuelis ethanol and biodiesel. As oil supplies have gone down rapidly,
demands for renewable alternatives have become very important. Biofuel will have a
greater impact on our transport future as it is an alternative fossil fuelled based
petroleum, meaning that it will be more sustainable and much more essential as oil
supplies decline and is necessary to in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

current cost of biofuel is approximately the same amount for gasoline, however the
overall benefits of using biofuel is much higher. Biofuels are cleaner fuels meaning
that they produce fewer emissions when burning. The biofuel industry is expected to
fuel economic development in poor rural countries, allowing these 3rd world
countries to develop with more economic stability as it also creates room for
employment. Also, biofuel will also increase the demand for suitable biofuel crops,
which enables economic stimulation in the agriculture industry particularly in rural
countries.
Hence, biofuel is a recent scientific research undertaken in Australia and will be the
greatest benefit towards society and the environment. As biofuel can help contribute
environmentally through lowering levels of pollution, it also benefits the society by

oh this teacher is going to be terrible, because I loved my old P.E teacher Miss. D,
but it turned out to be my favorite year for P.E. I can safely say that I grew in my
faith and my physical strength because of Mr. Ray. 8th grade was by far my favorite
year of my time at GHCS, just because of my class being so fun and everyone being
close which made the year awesome.
In 2nd grade my teacher was Mrs. Terborg, I can remember her by how she had the
naughty board and I was always on it because I wasn t always this perfect! She also
got a microphone that she taped on her face because of our class, because we were
always to loud. That was also the year that Mrs. Malek took in a big sparty to
surprise Mrs. Terborg after she had fallen in the winter and was out of schoolfor
awhile. Math during her class was one of my best years of math because she
explained everything very clearly so I got it fast and was good at it.
My 5th grade teacher was Mr. K he is/was one of my favorite teachers because of
how he did devotions every morning and that is what I remembered in his class.
The 5ht grade year is kinda torturous because it is the one year before middle school,
and every kid is ready for middle school at that point, just like when you are in 8th
grade you are ready for high school. I think that is cool because every year connects
into the next. Reading was my strength in 5th grade because he
The Symbolism Of The Colosseum
The Colosseum is known by many as the place where gladiator games were taken
place, however the Colosseum is much more than that; it is a symbol of the complete
transition that Rome underwent over the span of about 200 years. However, before
the symbolism of the Colosseum can be explained it is important to understand what
Rome was going through before and during the construction of the Colosseum.
During the rule NeroClaudius Caesar, emperor of Rome beginning at 54 BCE,
there was complete abuse of power which lead to a disconnect between the leader
of Rome and the people of Rome (Ruth). An example of Nero s misuse of power is
when there was a Great Fire in Rome (64 CE) and instead of working to rebuild the
empire of Rome, he built himself an extravagant palace known as the Golden House.
The utter exploitation that Nero displayed lead to the beginning of an uprising,
which caused him to take his own life (Ruth). After a struggle for someone to regain
power Emperor Vespasianwas the final victor, and it was him who commissioned the
creation of the Colosseum from (History.com).
Emperor Vespasian declared that the Golden House that Nero built for himself was
to be destroyed and turned into a new Amphitheater for all of the subjects of Rome to
enjoy (History.com). The Colosseum went under construction around 70 CE and was
completed in 80 CE, and Vespasian s son Tituswas emperor when it was to open
(History.com). Upon the initial grand opening of the colosseum Titus declared
Origin Of Agriculture And Village Life
Origin of Agriculture and Village Life: Natufian Culture vs. Early Chinese Neolihic
Food is one of the most biological needs of human, so obtaining food has always
been in human priority. So the question here is that if our ancient could hunt and
gather, why did some ancient societies turn to food production and sedentism? Well,
in contrast to hunting and gathering as a way of life of our ancients, agriculture
implies modifying the environment in order to exploit it more effectively. According
to a study of prehistory, the transition from food hunting and gathering to food
producing and settling did not take place suddenly in any part of the world. It is not
just an event, but it is truly a process (Bar Yosef,1998). This process was the first
unambiguously cultural revolution in human technology and ecology. There are
many scholars which have been developed many other hypotheses to explain the
origin of agriculture. In my paper today, I am going to compare and contrast two
cases studies of the transition from hunter gatherer to agricultural societies and
village life which are the Natufian culture in Southwest Asian and the Early Chinese
Neolithic in China to explain the origin of agriculture and village life.
The agricultural revolution was the wise scale transition of many human cultures
from hunting and gathering lifestyle to one of agriculture and settlement which allow
the ability to handle an increasingly larger population First of all, we compare the
timing of the
How Did The Hippie Subculture Influence The 1960s
Among uppermost significant movment which was very closely connected with the
music of 60 s was a hippie movement or hippie subculture. Hippies made use of
music to articulate themselves on an emotional level, mentally, and also politically.
To illustrate the effect of popular music as a cultural sensation, it s neccessary to get
back prior the hippies to the Civil Rights Movement. The Beat Generation,
particularly those related to the San Francisco Awakening steadily submitted to the
60 s era counterculture, followed by a switch in terms from beatnik to freak and hippie
. Soon this activity spred out to the entire globe, affecting all popular music categories

Essay about Hannibal of Carthage
Hannibal of Carthage
Hannibal of Carthage: The Father of Strategy Through out history there have been
many great military leaders, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Generals Washington,
Grant and Charles Lewis Puller. The one however that sticks out the most is General
Hannibal of Carthage. Often called the Father of Strategy his march over the Alps
is one of the most famous attacks in military history. Hannibal beat the Roman
Army time and time again before in suicide in 183 BC. Hannibal was born 247 BC,

In October of 218 BC, he crossed the Rhone river and ventured into what made him
so famous. Snow was already on the high passes of the Alps. Hannibal started his
march across the Alps with 40,000 men along with a calvary and a large number of
war elephants carrying supplies. After the crossing only 26,000 of his troops were
still alive due to the harsh weather and skirmishes with the local tribes. To make up
for his losses, Hannibal recruited Gallic people of Northern Italy. In December 218
BC Hannibal got victories against Romans and secured the Padus Valley. In the
spring of 217 BC Hannibal handed the Roman Counsel Gaius Flaminius, who was
killed in battle, a huge loss at the battle of Lake Trasimene. After his victory
Hannibal crossed the Apennines and invaded the Roman provinces of Picenu, and
Apulia and then back into Campania. Instead of storming Rome, Hannibal marched
through Italy in to Apulia and destroyed as he proceeded, but suffered heavy losses
in manpower. Hannibal spent the winter of 217 BC in the Apulian plains and in the
following summer faced a 54,000 strong Roman army. Hannibal circled around the
Romans forcing them in to each other confusing the Romans, then easily destroyed
then with his calvary. More than half of the Roman Army was lost. After that huge
victory many Indian tribes aligned with Carthage. Syracuse left the Roman cause and
Philip V of Macedon became an ally even though he never gave any aid. Many argue

What Does Goffman Mean By Working Consensus
According to Goffman and what impression management is that it people act
different in different places to match the setting like there appearance or social
setting. People must engage in this because it helps people adapt and learn skills
by being able to quickly adapt in a different environment. The reasons we do this is
for social approval and for identity development. People like to be accepted in certain
ways. People we adopt different social skills for the appropriate situations. What
Goffman means is that in a certain situations the persons actions will influence the
definition of the situation. What Goffman means by Working Consensus is the way
people work together or cooperate with each other. I do agree with his impression

The way this all ties into impression management is how all these people were
acting. At the College everyone was acting the same, there was nothing different
going on. It s like the students saw how others studied and then to just look normal
they also engaged in that activity. It s a bit different for GameStop since most
people were in and out in about four minutes. At Sam s Club you it was hard to tell
how impression management was tied in since it was so crowded but it s to be
assumed to me that when someone notices someone buying a product people get
curious and may get the same thing to fit in. It might not work like that exactly but
in a way it could. This assignment impacted my understanding of impression
management buy making me realize that our environment and the people in our
area really affects the actions of how we act. It made me see how people really do
adapt to how things or people are around then. Even now I notice how different I
can act around a new social group so I can be deemed normal by that certain groups
standards. In which different social groups or classes would have a different
definition of normal. That s how this impacted the way I see how impression

Tone Of Those Winter Sundays
Childhood is usually something many people who do not put in the back of their
minds but rather would enjoy speaking about. But others think of it as more as a
dark time in their lives and want nothing more then to take it and put it in a tiny
spot where it will never be found or heard of again. This is evident in the poem
Those Winter Sundays written by Robert Hayden. Hayden talks about what seems
to be the relationship between a young boy and his father but is does not seem to
be one of the happiest relationships. It appears to be one full of darkness and
sadness and maybe even abuse. Hayden uses the setting, the tone of voice and his
choice of words to create the sad and depressed state that the poem talks about.
Hayden starts the beginning of the poem by talking about how his father who was
old and exhausted getting up every morning to start the fires in the home to make
sure the house was warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker talks in very short words and ones that seem to tell a tale of unknown
sadness. Hayden uses blue black cold to help represent the tone of sadness and
loneliness that the family household feels. Also with the description of the father
having cracked hands that ached showed that the father also did not do well with
the cold each and every morning but also showed that he did work hard to provide
a proper life for his family. The choice of words in the poem also add to the
depressed state the family stays in. The speaker in the poem talks about winter cold
all throughout the poem which seems to show that the speaker does feel a deep
sadness and maybe even regret when thinking about his past and the the things they
may have gone through. And lastly when the speaker repeatedly says what did I
know, what did I know shows that now that he has grown up and is an adult, he
finally understands the sacrifices that his father made to make sure that he had a good

Villa Savoye influence a new epoch for architecture? Word count: Labelled as one of
Le Corbusier s defining buildings, the Villa Savoye has had a profound impact on the
modernist movement through out the twentieth century which became commonly
known as international style. Designed with the help of his cousin Pierre Jeanneret

Admiration for ocean liners due to their tenacity and discipline formulated his
proposal for Maison Citrohan . Similarly he said, The motor car is an object with a

This technological theme seemed to have a profound impact on the villa savoye. Le
Corbusier combined the theme of the house as a living machine and the architect s
analysis of living to formulate the villa savoye which principles are still used to this
day. As well as combining mathematics with modern machinery, Le Corbusier further
emphasises his purist believes in order to give light to his new epoch. He explains
Architecture is the masterly, correct and magnificent play of volumes brought
together in light. Our eyes are made to see forms in light: Light and shade reveal
these forms: cubes, cones, spheres, and cylinders or pyramids are the great primary
forms which light reveal to advantage. The image of these is distinct and tangible
within us and without ambiguity, it is the reason that these are beautiful forms. His
emphasis on geometric forms highlights their importance in embodying Architecture
as a machine. The combination of these three factors brings us back to the evoking
of senses with in a building. In 1923 famous book Towards an Architecture ( Vers une

Argentina welcomes foreign investments, and its laws governing foreign investment

Foreign investors may wholly own a local company, and investment in corporate
shares listed on the stock exchange requires no government approval.
Argentina generally does not impose exchange controls or restrictions on the flow of
capital or profit distributions abroad.
At present, some companies do still enjoy tax privileges attained in the past, but
gradually these are running out and it is not to be expected that new tax facilities or
privileges will be granted.
TAX SYSTEM / 1
Taxes are levied at three levels: national, provincial and municipal. National taxes,
especially value added tax (VAT), which are collected by the federal government and
distributed to the provinces, yield most of the revenue.
The provinces levy taxes primarily on gross business receipts (turnover tax) and on
real estate and, jointly with municipalities, they levy charges for services.
For many years Argentina taxed on a territorial basis. All Argentine source income
was subject to Argentine income tax. Foreign source income, such as the profits of a
foreign branch of an Argentine company, was not subject to Argentine income tax. A
tax reform, effective as from 1998, established that residents (whether individuals,
corporations or any other type of entity) are taxed on worldwide income. Non
residents continue to be taxed only on Argentine source income.
A tax credit is allowed for similar taxes paid abroad, up to the amount of the

Slave Trade the Industrial Revolution
The Atlantic slave trade was a key driving force to the industrial revolution in Britain
Britain experienced a huge industrial development from 1750 onwards. This
development led to Britain being one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The
changes and development happened at the same period of time that the slave trade
was at its peak and Britain was one of the countries most heavily involved. Britain
also played the biggest role in the trade out of any other European country. Is this
merely coincidence or is there a connection between these two? Was the slave trade
causing Britain s growth in economy and industrial development? Seeing as the
ports, such as the ports in Bristol and Liverpool became wealthy, more jobs were

Liverpool soon became the largest slave trading port in the Atlantic slave trade
system. From this, Liverpool gained a lot of money from taxes on imports and
exports which was hugely beneficial to the economy. The government gained about
5% of their income from the taxes paid on these ports which meant that the slave
trade was accumulating significant amounts if money. Many jobs were also created
by the trade as dockworkers, sailmakers, sailors and ship reporters were needed.
Because of the job increase, the economy grew because of taxes and there were
fewer unemployed people.
From all the money that was being accumulated from the slave trade, Britain was able
to finance a lot of new technology, such as the steam engine. This proves that the
slave trade was highly involved in the industrial revolution. Huge profits were being
made by investors, merchants and plantation owners and they were investing these
profits into banking, insurance and the development of industries which allowed
Britain to develop and advance in technology.
New machines and techniques also came with the revolution and it also had a
revolutionary effect on farming and manufacturing goods. New factories were
developed and the manufacture of cotton became very important and a lot of the
cotton being supplied by Britain was produced by slave labour.

On the formation of the Social Contract Theory has a long history, many people have
formed Social Contract Theory has made a great contribution. Thomas Hobbes as one
of the representatives of Modern Social Contract Theory, his departure from the
theory of human nature, to a fictional state of nature as a starting point, put forward
the basic principles of natural law, natural rights, and then through the Social Contract
Theory, the establishment of his country theory. Thomas Hobbes certain extent,
played a significant role, for people to bring enlightenment. But his theory does not
apply in all cases; we need to analyze different aspects of different problems. In this
essay, I will describe the Social Contract Theory, and explain the problem of how
do we get out of the State of Nature raised by Hobbes Game. I explain the idea of
cooperation that Thomas Hobbes can give to this problem, and then argue that this is
not a satisfactory response to the problem for three reasons.
The main expression of the Social Contract Theory is to explore whether there is a
legitimate political authority, Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains no.
He said political authority in our natural state does not exist, so we need a social
contract in a social contract, everyone abandon natural freedom, and obtain freedom
of contract; in the process of political participation, only everyone equally renounce
all natural freedom, assigned to the collectivity, human beings can get equal
Explain Why I Want To Attend A Naval Academy
I want to attend the United States Naval Academy for a variety of reasons, but my
primary motivation is that I want to serve as an officer in the United States Navy.
The concept of purpose best describes why I want to become a Naval Officer.
Throughout high school, I have cherished my opportunities to lead teams towards the
accomplishment of meaningful goals, such as collecting life saving blood for nearby
hospitals, and assisting struggling students and community members. These service
opportunities are deeply meaningful to me, but as I have learned from my

Naval Academy offers an exceptional education and impressive academic
internships with institutions such as NASA Boeing and summer training cruises
within the Navy itself. These challenging opportunities will enable me to further
develop my leadership critical thinking skills. I have successfully used these skills
in the past, but a Naval Academy education will further refine them, allowing me to
serve my country fully, both on active duty and in the years to follow. In September,
I had the opportunity to visit the Naval Academy for a Candidate Visit Weekend.
During my two night visit, I was paired with a current midshipman, whom I
accompanied to classes, meals, and a sports practice. Personally experiencing daily
life at the Academy and meeting current midshipmen has reinforced my desire to join
their ranks. The most inspiring thing about the midshipmen I met was the effort that
they put into succeeding. Being a part of this culture, even for two days, has shown
me that I can work just a little harder, and that I can push myself just a little further.
Since returning home, I have done just that in numerous ways. My goal of serving
our country with meaningful purpose and responsibility is clear to me. I am
confident that attending the United States Naval Academy is the most effective way
for me to achieve this objective, and for this reason, I request your

If you are a pastry chef at a prestigious kitchen and someone asks you a question
about your craft and you cannot give an answer, you will look foolish and the
respect that drove that person to ask you the question will have been lost.
However, if you are exceptionally knowledgeable about your craft and are able to
speak on the topic well, the person will respect you more. On another note, it is not
professional to seem to have no knowledge on what is supposed to be your job.
The Culinary Institute of America prides itself on professionalism. The last think I
want to do is to give the CIA a bad name because I was unprepared. This principle is
evident when Mrs. Vincent is judging a competition. Kerry Vincent is known for
giving harsh criticisms, but no one has ever corrected her because she is never
wrong. Also, no one ever has to ask her to repeat herself because she says exactly
what she means very clearly and
Compare And Contrast Essay On The Booker
As the setting sun cast its final rays across the city, Tom climbed the worn steps into
a gray brick apartment building. He glanced at the elevator for a moment before
deciding he needed the exercise and grasping hold of the banister, he slowly limped
up the stairs. His lungs soon burned with the exertion, his chest rising and falling
rapidly with heavy, panting breaths and when he reached the fourth floor, he briefly
considered giving up and riding the elevator the remaining two floors. However, his
dogged determination pushed him on and with a grunt, he pushed open the fire door
and entered the brightly lit corridor. He quickly orientated himself and turning left, he
walked down the blue carpeted hallway and stopped outside of apartment... Show

Somewhat taken aback by the request, Harry remained in the doorway for several
moments before stepping back and holding open the door. Sure, he replied with a
smile. C mon in.
Tom paused for a moment before entering the apartment that had once been his
home for a week. It seemed incredulous to him that three long years had passed
since Harry had taken him in after his fight with Booker, and he gazed around the
neat home with curious eyes. Not much had changed except for a new bookcase
that stood where a small bureau had once been, its shelves methodically stacked
with books in both English and Vietnamese. A few photographs broke up the
monotony of book spines lining the shelves and one photo in an attractive carved
wooden frame immediately caught Tom s eye. His body froze and he stared with
a transfixed gaze at the image of Harry and Judy s smiling faces. The photograph
looked recent and his brow knitted into a deep frown. He had assumed that once
Jump Street had disbanded that Booker and Harry were the only ones who had
stayed in touch because they worked together. But it appeared Harry and Judy were
still friends, and he suddenly wondered if Booker had purposely kept the information
from him. As he stared at the picture, another more disturbing thought crossed his
mind and his frown deepened.
Causes Of The Red Scare
Fearing Control Would you want to live in a society where you didn t have any
freedom, and were being controlled by your government? Americans in the late
1940 s to late 1950 s certainly didn t. Their government wanted to control the
possessions people had and how they acted politically, economically, and socially in
their everyday lives. The Americans worried about this state of having no freedom.
This created a fear that spread all over the United States, called the Red Scare. During
the Red Scare, people worried about communismbecoming part of the U.S. and
feared the influencers that fueled it to become a countrywide panic. What is The
Red Scare? The Red Scare is fear resulting from communists wanting to control
citizens. From 1919 to 1921, The First Red Scare occurred in which Americans
feared the Soviet Union s idea of communism spreading to The United States. After
this panic was resolved, there was another epidemic of fear called The Second Red
Scare. This lasted from 1947 to 1957 and was driven by the panic of communism
growing and spreading in The United States. The Second Red Scare was perpetuated
by international events and dismay such as the Korean War and fear of the Soviet
Union s nuclear weapon capabilities. From this, the House Un American Activities
Committee was formed. The committee s purpose was to investigate alleged
communists and infiltrators within the government, subcommittees, and Hollywood.
Americans also felt the effects of the Red

The French headquarters believing these forts worthless removed most of the artillery
pieces and Soldiers to be reassigned to locations that were believed to be a higher
priority to the German Army. The largest weapons they left at these forts were
155mm artillery and heavy machine guns to combat the 420mm guns of the Germans
located less than ten miles away.3
The French Army realized that the Germans were preparing for an offense operation
when they villages surrounding Verdun began to be evacuated. General Herr, the
commander of Verdun, requested additional Soldiers and equipment from General
Joffre, the French Commander and Chief. General Joffre did not believe the Germans
would attack Verdun, but sent on of his aides to investigate the situation at Verdun.
When it became apparent that Verdun was the target, two divisions were sent to
General Herr which would not arrive until 12 February 1916.
General Falkenhayn briefed his commanders that they were to attack the city of
Verdun in a battle of attrition. The commanders appeared to believe that the intent
was to capture the city itself. When they presented General Falkenhayn with Courses
of Action he agreed to the plan believing the troops would be more motivated by an

Vitamins Are Vital to Your Health

the maintenance of health.
Vitamins are essential to your health. You only need very small quantities but if you
don t get enough your body cannot function optimally. Severe deficiencies cause
debilitating diseases but even marginal intakes can cause subtle changes that affect
your health today and your risk of chronic disease tomorrow. An organic substance is
classified as a vitamin if lack of it in the diet causes symptoms that are relieved by
adding it back to the diet. The fact that the vitamins we eat in food are essential to

Russian Financial Crisis (1998) Topic 3: Russian financial crisis (1998) 1.0 Introduction Affected by the Southeast Asian financial crisis, Russia suffered from the financial crisis in May 1998 followed the crisis in October 1997. The crisis initially reflected on currency market and security market. As a result, foreign capital about one third of the total amount of Russian national debts faced large scale capital flight; exchange rate depreciated and stock market suffered a large setback; re lending interest rate once reached up to 150%. Therefore, the Russian government planned to issue 6 billion of European bonds in 1998. On July 13 1998, the government borrowed 22.6 billion dollars from western financial institutions led by IMF. (Lucey and Voronkova, 2008) Thirdly, the government prolonged the redemption date of all the debts to relieve the repayment peak. The major problem for the Russian government was lack of debt paying ability to quick liabilities. However, most of debts at that time were short term liabilities within one year. If the government couldn t repay them in time, it would suffer from serious debt crisis in three years. Therefore, the government must change the term structure of repayment and repaid quick liabilities by borrowing funded debts. On August 1, the government published economic programs of stabilizing the finance, but investors had no confidence about whether the programs could have expected effects. (Shleifer and Treisman, 2000) Besides, the investors were not willing to buy Russian negotiable securities and even dumped the securities in their hands. Facing internal and external troubles, the government pushed three tough emergency measures such as enlarging the region of Rouble s exchange rate fluctuations and turning the upper limit of Rouble s exchange rate down to 9.5:1, delaying 90 days of repaying due external debts, and shifting the redemptions date of internal debts. Later, the Central bank straightforward announced to let
  • 3. Difference Between Formal And Informal Learning The text being analyzed is Informal vs. Formal learning: What s the Difference. Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a meaning of informal and formal learning, which is interesting because it seems like there are only two ways of learning in life. Firstly, this text was chosen because it contains a simplistic meaning of what informal and formallearningis. Furthermore, the text states that formal learning is like a bus, the driver decides where the bus is going, and the passengers are along with the ride (Cournoyer 2012). Additionally, this is an interesting way to explain formal learning because there is one force that is in control of how everyone is supposed to learn. In this example, the person driving the bus is independent of driving while the passengers are dependent to when the driver makes it s stops. The point to make across is that if the formal force makes an error, then the people who are not the force are at risk. Secondly, informal learning is like a bike because the rider chooses the destination, and the route. Formal learning has much more structure than informal learning because informality has more flexibility. Formal learning is considered to have more control over the learning experience (Cournoyer 2012). The article from class being analyzed here is Welcome to The World Is a Text by Johnathan Silverman and Dean Rader. Firstly, the article is about how people experience reading through a formal and informal way. Interestingly, people
  • 4. Sprained Wrist Injury sprained wrist is a common injury in all kinds of people, active and non active. A sprain occurs when an extreme twist, bend or impact forces the wrist out of its usual angles of rotation into a position beyond its normal range of motion, tearing the ligaments. There are three didn t grades of sprains that can occur in the wrist just like the hamstring sprain meaning it is important to see a psychotherapist as soon as possible so that they are able to assess the problem and devise a rehabilitation programme to fit the nature of the injury. 1 7 days post injury acute stage Such as with any sprain injury or acute injury, applying the PRICE principles of protection is an important first step to help with the recovery of the sprain. This acronym stands for Protection. By protecting the damaged wrist is stops it from becoming prone to further injury. Rest. Resting the wrist is important so that there isn t added pressure put onto the ligament which could set the recovery stage back further as it could cause chronic damage. Ice. Applying ice to the damaged area will help to reduce the pain and reduce the swelling that may occur due to the injury. Hispanic Culture And Latino Culture My words sound uneven and irrational because it has become so easy to mix my Spanish and English together when you learned both languages at the same time, my mother signals to her head in agreement because for over the past few years of my life she has learned to better understand my Spanglish. Growing up between two cultures I always wonder whether I am worthy enough to be part of the Latino community. Both of my parents are immigrants from Mexico by crossing the border to the United States with little knowledge of speaking English. I grew up in a predominantly African American suburb so I grew up learning mostly English and learned American ways. During school there wasn t any structure for Latino kids during my time to have the opportunity to fully develop the Spanish language; therefore, all my classes consisted of me speaking English only for long periods of time. I learned through an article on immigration policy that during the year, 2000, overall 1,000,000 immigrants have migrated to the United States every year or so. For some reason, they bring their loves ones but leave behind their language to fit within our current society. I notice that language is an important factor for many past generations of what makes their identity and culture. Therefore, it could be terrifying to ask: Am I Latino enough for those who are second/third generation just like me? This takes me to a time, I won a scholarship from Hispanic Heritage Foundation. When Cobb wrote This Nonviolent Stuff ll Get You Killed, he focuses on the protection African Americans needed in order to not get killed completing everyday tasks, like going grocery shopping. Even on public transportation, civil rights activist felt threatened to the point of bringing weapons and concealing them on their personnel. • 7. The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War Essay The Outbreak of the Spanish Civil War To this day the Spanish Civil War is still remembered as the single most pivotal moment in the history of Spanish politics. The only way of understanding how 600,000 Spaniards were killed between 1936 and 1939 is to ask ourselves why the civil war broke out in Spain in 1936. There were a number of reasons which led to the civil war in Spain. The main and most significant being the increased political polarization between the left and right wing parties. This polarization primarily began within Spanish society, which had been characterized by its strong religious beliefs and conservative values, as it remained a strict Roman Catholic country for many ... Most of which wanted Spain to return to the Golden Ages of sixteenth century Catholic Spain and were in favour of the Monarchy in order to remain an authoritarian state. This division was highlighted further by a number of pronunciamientos[6] and uprisings between the two sides adding to the increased political tension. For the right, they saw the defence of religious interests as their fundamental political task. [7] Whereas, the liberals reflected the increasingly anti Catholic feeling throughout Spain. Therefore, it can be understood why the liberal views on the Church, and its policies within the second republic to reduce the Church s power, angered the right wing parties enough for them to retaliate through a number of uprisings throughout Spain. Especially during the declaration of the second republic stating that Spain no longer possessed an official religion. During the constitutional monarchy of Alfonso CIII, the left was frustrated by the farce of the electoral system[8], which up until the second republic was formed on the 14th April 1931, remained in favour of local bosses, also given

Year-Round School System One of the key fundamentals in the daily life of an individual is education, most of the achievements that have been made are because of knowledge that was gained through education. It is also known that through education, one gets empowered to do many things so that he or she can become successful in life. Because of these, school systems are seen to be important in our society. There have been suggestions to change the current educationsystem to a year round schoolsystem. It means that the learners will have at most one month vacation instead of the two to three months vacation that is provided by the current system. A year round schooling system is a bad idea because of the pedagogical or educational reasons, economic reasons, and the social reasons. Having a year round school system will cost more. The learners will not have a chance to look for summer jobs, some of the students depend on these jobs to meet their financial needs. Many students take up summer jobs so that they can save money to use in school or pay up for services that they need. It means that the students and teachers will have to work more than they have been working, this is a bad idea as it will cause burnouts that will lead to chronic stress, ill health, and unhappiness in both teachers and students which will be quite difficult to deal with. Eventually, the education levels might become worse than they are

Lean thinking begins with driving out waste so that all work adds value and serves the customer s needs. Identifying value added and non value added steps in every process is the beginning of the journey toward lean operations. In order for lean principles to take root, leaders must first work to create an organizational culture that is receptive to lean thinking. The commitment to lean must start at the very top of the organization, and all staff should be involved in helping to redesign processes to improve flow and reduce waste. The time saved increases the time a physician can spend with a patient. Most of the cost of medical care involves clogs in the flow of information paper forms, lab results, phone messages, often leading to irritated patients. Two details on this list bear further explanation. The No Layoff Policy is critical to the success of implementing lean management. People will more fully commit and engage in improvement work if they are not worried about improving themselves out of a job. Attrition, typically steady in health care, will enable most organizations to reassign staff to other necessary work. A culture shift is important here as well: Staff, especially in health care, do not typically view themselves as working for the organization, but for their individual department and/or care team. In lean thinking, the patient/customer drives all processes, and staff/providers must come to understand that they work for the patient. This means they may be reassigned depending on the needs of the patients. Secondly, the defect alert system is a fundamental element of the TPS, known as stopping the line. The name combines the greek chroma, or color, with graphein, to write. The technique was invented in 1900 by Mikhail Tsvet, who used it to write the colors of plant pigments like chlorophyll carotenes, and xanthophylls. He did that by dissolving the plant mixtures in a fluid, or mobile phase, and allowing it to flow through a solid material called a stationary phase. The components of the mixture flow through the stationary phase material at different rates, creating waves or bands. Originally, those bands were detected by visible color differences. Detection methods are now based on the chemical and physical properties of the molecules being separated, including but not limited to color, UV absorbance, size, charge, and hydrophobicity. In modern chromatographic separations, the stationary phase comes in the form of media, either pre packed in a chromatography column, or added by the user to the separation apparatus. The choice of media depends on the type of molecule being separated, the means of separation, the purpose and scale of separation, and the desired purity of the separated sample. I can safely say that I grew in my faith and my physical strength because of Mr. Ray. 8th grade was by far my favorite year of my time at GHCS, just because of my class being so fun and everyone being close which made the year awesome. In 2nd grade my teacher was Mrs. Terborg, I can remember her by how she had the naughty board and I was always on it because I wasn t always this perfect! She also got a microphone that she taped on her face because of our class, because we were always to loud. That was also the year that Mrs. Malek took in a big sparty to surprise Mrs. Terborg after she had fallen in the winter and was out of schoolfor awhile. Math during her class was one of my best years of math because she explained everything very clearly so I got it fast and was good at it. My 5th grade teacher was Mr. K he is/was one of my favorite teachers because of how he did devotions every morning and that is what I remembered in his class. The 5ht grade year is kinda torturous because it is the one year before middle school, and every kid is ready for middle school at that point, just like when you are in 8th grade you are ready for high school. I think that is cool because every year connects into the next. Reading was my strength in 5th grade because he

The Symbolism Of The Colosseum The Colosseum is known by many as the place where gladiator games were taken place, however the Colosseum is much more than that; it is a symbol of the complete transition that Rome underwent over the span of about 200 years. However, before the symbolism of the Colosseum can be explained it is important to understand what Rome was going through before and during the construction of the Colosseum. During the rule NeroClaudius Caesar, emperor of Rome beginning at 54 BCE, there was complete abuse of power which lead to a disconnect between the leader of Rome and the people of Rome (Ruth). An example of Nero s misuse of power is when there was a Great Fire in Rome (64 CE) and instead of working to rebuild the empire of Rome, he built himself an extravagant palace known as the Golden House. The utter exploitation that Nero displayed lead to the beginning of an uprising, which caused him to take his own life (Ruth). After a struggle for someone to regain power Emperor Vespasianwas the final victor, and it was him who commissioned the creation of the Colosseum from (History.com). Emperor Vespasian declared that the Golden House that Nero built for himself was to be destroyed and turned into a new Amphitheater for all of the subjects of Rome to enjoy (History.com). The Colosseum went under construction around 70 CE and was completed in 80 CE, and Vespasian s son Tituswas emperor when it was to open (History.com). So the question here is that if our ancient could hunt and gather, why did some ancient societies turn to food production and sedentism? Well, in contrast to hunting and gathering as a way of life of our ancients, agriculture implies modifying the environment in order to exploit it more effectively. According to a study of prehistory, the transition from food hunting and gathering to food producing and settling did not take place suddenly in any part of the world. It is not just an event, but it is truly a process (Bar Yosef,1998). This process was the first unambiguously cultural revolution in human technology and ecology. There are many scholars which have been developed many other hypotheses to explain the origin of agriculture. In my paper today, I am going to compare and contrast two cases studies of the transition from hunter gatherer to agricultural societies and village life which are the Natufian culture in Southwest Asian and the Early Chinese Neolithic in China to explain the origin of agriculture and village life. The agricultural revolution was the wise scale transition of many human cultures from hunting and gathering lifestyle to one of agriculture and settlement which allow the ability to handle an increasingly larger population First of all, we compare the timing of the

This is evident in the poem Those Winter Sundays written by Robert Hayden. Hayden talks about what seems to be the relationship between a young boy and his father but is does not seem to be one of the happiest relationships. It appears to be one full of darkness and sadness and maybe even abuse. Hayden uses the setting, the tone of voice and his choice of words to create the sad and depressed state that the poem talks about. As he stared at the picture, another more disturbing thought crossed his mind and his frown deepened.
