Sample Essays Middle School
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Sample Essays Middle School" can present its own set of
challenges. First and foremost, the task involves delving into the unique characteristics and
requirements of middle school-level writing. This necessitates a keen understanding of the target
audience, as the language, tone, and complexity of ideas should align with the cognitive and
academic levels of middle school students.
Additionally, finding the right balance between engaging content and educational value can be
tricky. The essay should not only capture the interest of young readers but also provide them
with valuable insights, making the learning experience enjoyable and informative simultaneously.
Another hurdle lies in the need to maintain a clear and coherent structure. Middle school essays
should adhere to a logical progression of ideas, with an introduction that captivates attention,
body paragraphs that support the thesis with evidence, and a conclusion that leaves a lasting
impression.
Choosing appropriate examples and anecdotes is essential, as they play a pivotal role in
elucidating concepts for middle schoolers. Striking this balance requires careful consideration of
the target audience's background knowledge and interests.
Moreover, the essay should be void of overly complex language or convoluted ideas that might
hinder comprehension. The challenge lies in simplifying concepts without oversimplifying,
ensuring that the content is accessible and beneficial for middle school students.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Sample Essays Middle School" demands a delicate blend of
creativity, educational insight, and a profound understanding of the target audience. It's a task
that requires navigating the fine line between engaging content and educational substance, all
while maintaining clarity and coherence. For those seeking assistance with such endeavors, a

Mormon Polygamy
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) was formally organized in a
small log cabin in upstate New York in 1830. It took 117 years until 1947 for the
Church to grow from the initial six members to one million (Mormon Newsroom).
Many people associate polygamy with Mormonism, however polygamyhas been
banned in The LDS Church since 1890. Mormons believe they have a Christian faith,
but many Protestant Christians do not accept Mormons as genuine Christians
because of the differences in beliefs. While Mormonism is a fast growing religion
with more than 15 million members, many non Mormons have misconceptions about
what Mormons actually believe (Mormon Newsroom). Although, The Church of

(Mormon Newsroom). The LDS Church was founded in 1830 in New York under
the leadership of Joseph Smith. This group of Mormons believes in the Bible, the
Book of Mormon, and the Godhead in addition to the 13 Articles of Faith, Doctrine
and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. The 13 Articles of Faith are thirteen
statements that were written by Joseph Smith to summarize the main beliefs of
The LDS Church. They also believe that men will be punished for their sins. LDS
believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the
Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the
remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost
(Mormons and Religion). The Doctrine and Covenants is a collection of divine
revelations and inspired declarations given for the establishment and regulation of
the kingdom of God on the earth in the last days (Smith, The Doctrine and
Covenants). Compared to The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints and the Temple Lot Mormons, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day

Restaurant Literature Review Paper
Part 1 Theoretical Framework
1.1 Literature Review
1.1.1 Market Segmentation Market segmentation is a marketing concept, and it is
based on the customer needs and wants. The objectives of the concept is to let
customer satisfy with what they wants and to understand of customer preferences and
produce the product and service. Customer satisfaction is an important factor for the
restaurant because it is how they going to survive in the restaurant industry. Basically
to understanding of the social, economic and, to a limited extent, psychological
location of the consumer (Salim, A, T., Rahmat, H., Karuthan, C., Mukesh, K. 2012).
The objectives are to let the satisfaction level become higher which based on
effectively and efficiently. To identify the market is by a variety of technique and
methods, there is market segmentation and target segmentation. To identify the target
market need is also part of the development to create satisfaction for the customer.

orientation, type of establishment, variety of menu, food specialization, style of
operation and ownership (Lawson, 1994 in Othman and Don, 2008). Basically in
Malaysia, casual dining and fine dining restaurant are included in full service
restaurant based on (Euromonitor International, 2012c) because it provides waited
table service for customer (Gregoire and Spears, 2007). Meanwhile fast food
restaurant consider as quick service restaurant because they produce quick order,
quick production and quick pick up. Nowadays, in the food beverage industry have
many different type of restaurant raising up, it is because changing of lifestyle.
Therefore, there is a good opportunity to growth on different restaurants. Food service

Disaster Of Emergency Management Plan
When disasters strike, emergency management plans get put into action. Often we
see terms such as mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery used to describe
emergency management. This paper will look into the recovery aspect of disasters.
We will see all of the planning that goes into recovery to best minimize the effects of
a disaster. From the planning to the training to the execution phases, we can agree
that recovery is an important part of emergency management. We will explore disaster
recovery from the points of view of the American Red Cross, FEMA, and other key
agencies. Because when we think about it, disasters are going to happen and recovery
will happen too.
When disaster strikes will you be ready? We hear this all the time and I think some
us are ready. But what about after? What do you do? Where do you go or turn for
help? Most us will turn to our leaders for guidance and help. To look at recovery lets
first define it. The dictionary defines recovery as a return to a normal state of health,
mind, or strength. The action or process of regaining possession or control of
something stolen or lost. Disaster recovery is the area of security planning that deals
with protecting an organization or community from the effect of significant negative
events. (Rouse, M) These negative events could be anything from hurricanes,
earthquakes, other types of natural disasters to that of cyberattacks and terrorist
attacks. Plans to help with recovery tend to give policies,
Tuskegee Case Study
Introduction The Tuskegee Syphilis experiment was an unethical scientific study
funded by the US Public Health Service that was performed on African American
men in Macon County, Alabama that took place from 1932 1972. The purpose of
this experiment was to study the progress of untreated syphilis in African
American men; a total of 600 black men 399 with syphilis, 201 who did not have
the disease. (U.S. Public Health Service Syphilis Study at Tuskegee, 2013) The
study was conducted under false pretenses, in that the scientist lied to the patients
saying they were being treated for Bad Blood while being provided a placebo. In
1945 penicillin was discovered to be an adequate treatment for syphilis, and everyone

This provides a guideline that ensures that researchers minimize the amount of risk a
study may impose to a participant. When planning a study, it is also important that
each of the participants are provided with a sense of security and not placed at a
disadvantage. When participants enter into a study, a level of trust is established, and
their identities and the information they provide must be protected and never be used
against them or exploited for any reason. Respect for human dignity includes two
rights; the right to self determination and the right to full disclosure. When
conducting a research study these two rights must be maintained to ensure that the
participants are not coerced into participation and that they are making the choice of
their own free will. Patients must be provided with all the information necessary to
make an informed decision and voluntarily participate. No deception or concealed
data collection can be done because it will violate the patients rights. Justice
represents two rights; the right to fair treatment and the right to privacy. The right to
fair treatment consists of being treated in a nonjudgmental, nonprejudiced manner
and with respect. Those that do not complete the experiment cannot be denied
treatment that may be established from the information gathered, nor can they be
denied treatment if they seek outside treatment. The right to privacy provides limits
that their research is not more intrusive than it needs to be, that

sequence and then the outline which has been followed to carry out the field of study.
There have been various methods taken to evaluate the subject and they are
highlighted in this section and then a valid analysis has been conducted and the entire
population was kept in view and the sample and its collection types.
The research design means the procedures and the gathering of data for the study.
The design can be in different types: exploratory, descriptive or applied. Exploratory
design means when data and information are obtained as basic priority and the proper
sequence of data collection is followed. For understanding the integration of different

3.1 Data Collection
Primary and secondary are the two major forms of any particular study. Primary has
unprocessed and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly
from the source whereas secondary means a reliance on the already researched work
which is available and has been researched by numerous scholars and researchers.
Both methods are used to gather the important info for the use of exploratory study as
in this case.
3.2 Primary data collection
Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two
methods used: direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach
always provides an analysis in detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009)
had this view that primary data is important and has a great significance because it is
always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been collected directly
from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the
students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview.
The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the
questions asked in a semi structured interview session before they are answered and
the questions can be manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for
any research. To conduct an interview, the queries are based on the idea to rely on
the basic aim and objective of the field of the study and also highly
Is the story Daughters of the late Colonel more comic...
Is the story Daughters of the late Colonel more comic than tragic for the reader
overall? Be sure to comment on Mansfield s use of language. The story Daughters of
the late Colonel , written by Katherine
Mansfield takes place during Victorian times, based around two sister s whose father
had recently died. Mansfield describes the struggles of these two women as they try
to express their femininity and overcome the barriers of etiquette and the presence of
their father, whom they feared. The story ends as the sisters Josephine and
Constantia attempt to break free of their suppressed world but fail to, thus ending the
story in tragedy. Despite this the path leading to the tragic ending is riddled in
humorous moments. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another section which is both humorous as well as pitiable at the same time can be
seen during the time when Nurse Andrews comes by to visit, but eats all their butter:
Nurse Andrews was simply fearful about butter... She had that maddening habit of
asking for just an inch more bread to finish what she had on her plate, and then, at the
last mouthful, absent mindedly of course it wasn t absent mindedly taking another
helping
This entire section is written in Josephine s voice, and thus allows the reader to view
her opinion on Nurse Andrews. fearful is not very commonly used for such
situations, and sounds amusing to the reader.
This is also seen through the repetition of absent mindedly as well as the use of
dashes which allows the reader to visualize Josephine snapping at the gesture.
However, even though she is pictured like this Josephine is unable to stop Nurse
Andrews in real life. She merely got very red when this happened, and she fastened
her small, bead like eyes on the table cloth . This again highlights the dismal state the
women are in though they are the masters of the house, a common nurse is able to
dominate them, while the sisters are too weak to do anything against her.
However, this comical moment also highlights a more serious, tragic point about the
sisters. The word fearful is a pun; it also highlights the fact that Josephine is fearful
that Nurse Andrew will take all their butter, as it is

How Native Korean Speakers Produce English Unstressed...
4.Research Questions and Hypotheses
This study focuses on how native Korean speakers produce English unstressed
vowels. When an unstressed vowel is ought to be produced as a schwa, the study
will be on what the alternative vowel sounds of the schwa could be.As mentioned
above, English and Korean have non comparable prosodic features from each other.
The goal of this study is to investigate the possible effects of prosodic characteristics
of the L1 Korean on the production of L2 English unstressed vowels.
Since Korean has no stress pattern in lexical word level, it is expected that Korean
speakers will produce a full vowel affected by the Korean prosody which has only
stressed full vowels. Further, it is more likely that they have difficulty in
producing reduced intensities and shorter duration for unstressed vowels
compared to the stressed vowels. In terms of vowel quality, if the vowels are
produced as non reduced vowels, the realization will be full vowels. This study
focuses on the acoustic analysis of the vowel quality of the reduced vowels. As far
as concerned with which vowels will be produced as full vowels, it is predicted that
the participants will produce other full vowels influenced by the assimilation effect of
their L1, Korean.
5.Method
In order to investigate how a native Korean speaker produces unstressed vowels
which are affected by the L1 Korean, I had four participants consisting of two native
Korean speakers and two English native speakers who
Disadvantages Of Using Body Cameras
Disadvantages
One disadvantage regarding the use of Body cameras is not just the cost of the
cameras and the data storage but also the infrastructure that needs to be
maintained. As time goes on capacities will be exceeded, the networks will
continue to degrade, and the supplementary equipment required to store the videos
will continue to degrade or become obsolete. (1) In addition to this there is the
cost of employing people to catalog and retrieve any video footage related to
subpoenas, investigations and public information records requests as well as
software licensing fees. (3) Approximately 25 percent of the videos that are
collected are related to crimes and they must be kept for possible judicial purposes.
One police department reported having 35,000 videos retained that met this
requirement of possibly judicial need. (4) Police departments across the country that
have already instituted the use of body cameras have seen the costs of maintaining
these videos run into the millions of dollars just to manage the data not counting the
cost of buying the cameras. (11)
Another disadvantage is that departments are struggling with the issue of whether
or not officers should be allowed to view videos before preparing their police
reports. Concerns are that if officers are allowed to view the video then their
memory of the crime may be influenced by what they see on the video and may not
be a true reflection of what actually occurred which makes it unfair for both the

Curl Pattern Vs. Hair Texture
Knowing Your Hair Type: Curl Pattern Vs Hair Texture, What s the Difference? As a
natural hair enthusiast, or as I like to call myself, a Naturalista, I believe it is
important for all those who are considering making the transition, the big chop, or
who have transitioned (from relaxed to natural hair), or have made the big chop to
know the challenges you will face when it comes to making these, in many cases,
life altering decisions. I know this all sounds very dramatic, and for some it is. So,
for the sake of entertainment and, if it will keep you reading, then let s continue
with the drama. For those of you who have no clue on where to begin, let me say
this: The internet and blogosphere is saturated with naturalistas like myself who have
taken as much, if not more time to learn all there is to know about how to care for
our natural hair.
If you care enough to do the research yourself, you will find that the market for this

The truth is, a black woman and a white woman both can have the same curl
pattern (e.g. a 3c pattern), but have completely different textures. Now, is this
starting to make a little more sense? When I think of textures, I think of how
something feels to the touch, to the taste, and even to the sight. Some textures are
smooth and silky, while other textures are rigid and rough. Then, there s this whole
thing on porosity. I won t go into detail about porosity, but just know that if you ve

then more than likely the porosity of your hair is high. The porosity of your hair
determines how your hair may react to certain products because of its ability to

First, the Animals kept in a zoo will never truly know what it s like to be a real

Language Skills, Listening, Speaking, Reading, And...
In real life communication, people use a variety of language skills, listening,
speaking, reading, and writing. When people learn a foreign language, they usually
want to make use of that language to communicate with people who speak the same
language. They can find themselves in the need of understanding them and talking to
them. As Raimes (1983) states, listening and speaking are, regardless of whom the
people using the language are, at least as important as the other skills to communicate.
Thus, it is essential for students to understand the language they are exposed to and
respond appropriately so that they can become competent users of that particular
language. Seferoglu and Uzakgöre (2004) cited in Tavil (2010) indicate that
listening is an interactive process. The listener does not always just listen to, but he
or she also reacts to the speaker or asks questions for clarification. The most essential
issue for the students should be to understand what they are listening to and be able
to give appropriate responses orally. This aim clarifies the integration of ... Show

1. Introduction
1.1 Background
In September, there was breaking news in the American entertainment world private
pictures of Hollywood movie star Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrities were
leaked online by hacker who stole the pictures from their Apple s iCloud. People
were shocked by this news, and a debate was generated online on whether cloud
technology is safe enough to upload private files. Despite this incident, cloud database
can be trusted as a secure space to store information as long as the users have some
basic safety awareness.
1.2 The concept of cloud database
Cloud is a popular concept in the world of technology today. Put everything in the
cloud is a popular statement used by cloud database vendors. A cloud database is a
database that has been optimized to create a virtualized computing environment.
Businesses and other organizations with large databases can benefit from putting
their databases in the cloud because it allows them to effectively support and use
cloud enable business applications as part of a wider software as a service (SaaS)
deployment (Rouse, M). Furthermore, more and more people are choosing to use
cloud database to store and share documents, or even run some software on the web,
rather then installing it to their own computer. In addition, cloud database is also
convenient for mobile users.

Simone De Beauvoir And Frantz Fanon And The Oppression
Of...
The majority dictates history, policy, science and general education. With the view
of the minority so firmly permeating society s mind, the voice of the minority falls
to the wayside. Simone de Beauvoir, Frantz Fanon, and Michel Foucault all seek to
establish a voice for the minority, and a path to freedom and liberation from the
dominance of the normalized majority. In her work The Second Sex. De Beauvoir
tackles the oppression of women. While not a minority, women are written out of
society by a more dominant male society, and experience oppression like that felt by
the minority. Like minority groups, women are relegated to a status of otherness in
society, which defines them as outside the bounds of the accepted and... Show more

Simone de Beauvoir defines the lived experience of women as one of otherness, and
from this stems the oppression of women. De Beauvoir explains the lived experiences
of women when she states that he is the Subject; he is the Absolute. She is the other.
The man constitutes himself at the subject and the absolute, both descriptors place
complete emphasis and importance on the man, the women are only relevant in their
existence as the other. Since women are presently regulated to the category of the
other, humanity is male, and man defines women, not in herself, but in relation to
himself; she is not considered an autonomous being. Without a form of autonomy
women have no basis for understanding themselves as women. If women must
identify themselves through men, there is no way to escape a society in which men
are the center of society and women are merely peripheral beings that conflate
themselves to the wills and wishes of the more relevant man. De Beauvoir s notion
of liberation and freedom called on women to reclaim the category of womanhood to
create an autonomous and working woman who can break out of the master slave
dynamic created by the
Nietzsche Slave Morality
The slave mortality presented by Nietzsche in his Genealogy of Morals is prevalent
within modern literature. The dark effects of this morality have crept far beyond the
general view of the elite class and into our writing. This is not much of a surprise
since literature reflects the world and our view of the world within it. Unfortunately,
its impact on our society is shown by its prevalence within modern writing. This
morality allows the author to focus on the evilenemy (Nietzsche 39) instead of the
good within humanity. This obsession with the negativity within the world has
become a theme within humanities writing. Every good story must have some
conflict some evil that is tearing at the good and often innocent. And it is true, that...

The standard of living is the highest it has ever been, the rate at which new
technologies are being produced is truly amazing. The problem with the slave
morality is not its existence but its prevalence. This is where Nietzsche
observations have some reality. It is true that the slave mentality is widespread and
that thousands of years have made it hard to look past such a mentality but
Nietzsche argument that it started with the jews is questionable at best. The
mythology that comes long before the influence of Judeo Christian influence
spread throughout the western world and it always has monsters or evil royalty

The Roma And Its Impact On Today s Society
The Roma people also known throughout history as gypsies or travelers , have had a
tremendous impact on today s society. Today, there are approximately 12 million to
15 million Romani people throughout the world. The Roma s history is very complex;
they have experienced throughout history exclusion, discrimination, and persecution.
The majority of the Romani peoplein today s society live in Western Europe, the
Americas, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The social and political organization of
this group has a traditional, complex way of life. In their traditional economic
culture, the Roma all have very similar occupations that consist mostly in the fields
of entertainment, crafts, and trading. Religious practices vary with the Roma. All
these component s tie into the way the Roma people live which in some ways is very
similar to ours.
The Roma history is vast and complex; the Romani people have been on this world
for over a thousand of years. In those years, they received discrimination,
persecution, and exclusion. Through most of their history, the Roma were typically
classified in a social hierarchy as the untouchables or the undesirables . It has been
said that the Romani people originated in India. As early as the fifteenth century,
was the exodus of the Romani people of India. It is claimed that they moved out of
India due to war and military invasion of India. I understand and sympathize the
reason to move because the Romani people were at the bottom of the

Case study 1: Residence and source
Discuss whether Kit is a resident of Australia and how his salary and investment
income would be taxed (10 marks, max. 1000 words).
Answer
In order to determine whether Kit is a resident of Australia for taxation purposes, it is
important to understand the process of evaluation of residency of the individual. The
Australian taxation law has conceived certain methods that can determine whether the
income generated by an individual either in Australia or worldwide must be taxed.
There are four such circumstances that can help in determining Kit s residency.
Referred to as Tests the circumstances are explained below
Resides Test If an individual is a permanent resident of Australia, and then he...

This test also explains that if an individual has made another country his/her home
then he/she will not be considered as an Australian resident for tax purposes.
183 Day Test this test explains that an individual must be considered as an
Australian resident if he/she has stayed continuously or intermittently for more than
half a year of his/her income. The only exception to this test is based on the
commissioner of The Australian Taxation office, if the commissioner agrees that the
individual has his permanent abode in another country and has no interest in taking
up permanent residency in Australian.
Commonwealth Superannuation Test for an individual to be declared as an
Australian resident for tax purposes under this test, he/she has to be a member of a
superannuation scheme which is established under the Superannuation act of 1990
and the individual is determined as an employee eligible for the purpose of receiving
superannuation guarantee from its employer based on the superannuation act of 1976.
Based on the definition of tests and according to the facts mentioned below, it could
be clearly understood that Kit is a resident of Australia for taxation purposed based
on his fulfilment of the conditions mentioned in the Resides Test and the concluding
case studies as evidence of the same.
His family resides in Australia where he owns a home
The Trade Industry During The Post Confederation Era
From an important ally in the fur trade industry to an oppressed nation occupying
desired lands, the value of First Nations people suffered a significant decline, from the
white Canadian s perspective, in the nineteenth century. This transformation reached a
critical low during the post Confederation era with the introduction of legislation
aimed towards further oppressing the Indian . Of such legislation, the most
distinguished and impactful was the act entitled An Act to amend and consolidate the
laws respecting Indians, more commonly identified as the Indian Act. Introduced in
Canadain 1876, the Indian Act was a consolidation of pre existing legislation that
reflected the Canadian government s primary goal of assimilation. As the self
appointed fiduciary duty of the Canadian government to protect and civilize First
Nationsmembers, the Act imposed the first classification of Indian status on the First
Nations people of Canada. The Act also implemented the process of enfranchisement
which encouraged and/or forced First Nations members to abandon their status and
traditional way of life to become fully functioning members of Canadian society. Yet,
despite the government s honourable intentions, the Indian Act promoted gender
based discrimination towards the women of Canada s First Nations communities,
resulting in a loss of status, status rights, and identity for generations of women. This
essay will explore the notion of fiduciary duty, will provide an overview of

Prejudice And Discrimination Essay
A lot of people understand and have gone through stereotyping, prejudice, and
discrimination. Social Psychologists make a distinction between these by
concentrating on either they include emotions, understanding, or attitudes. Racism is
the influence, or reaction, visible feature of this triad. Racism includes a
contradicting approach into individuals situated on their association in a specific
organization. The psychological visible feature is stereotyping. Stereotypes are
feelings concerning the characteristics of specific crowds or associates of those
organizations. Prejudiceincludes attitudes. Discrimination is bad attitude toward
people or organizations established on assumptions and feelings towards those

Societal beginnings of racism associate the averages in our surroundings, the rivalry
that lives amongst organizations, and the societal unevenness that survive in our
planet. For the reason that classifying occurs commonly and is a beneficial utensil in
a lot of forms, every person s civilization is expected to acquire stereotypes. Ingroup
partiality directs to mismatched treatment of the ones that we have classified just as
the outgroup. As well as outgroup uniformity partiality blocks our view on the
dissimilarities inside the outgroup.
Yet our understanding about the traits of these outgroups and how solid our racism is
counts on the specific civilization in which we live in. Racism and stereotypes bear
beginnings in the pattern of our societal organizations. Humans are taught bad
behaviors against organizations by acquiring the standards of their societal
background. We are taught from our associates on which stereotypes are suitable.
When participants in one study were led to believe that their stereotypes were
different from those of their peers, those stereotypes were transformed to be more in
connection with associate stereotypes.
Assuming that our societal standards inform us that something on how racist we
have to be against specific organizations. Social norms dictate that we dislike child
abusers, terrorists, and members of the Ku Klux Klan. And these groups are groups
we have strong prejudices toward. On

Harvest the flowers and stems from May through July. Use chickweed fresh, dried
or frozen. Have fresh juice during the winter by freezing leaf juice into ice cubes in
stainless steel trays. Gardening tip: When planting, give chickweed some room to
spread out or grow vertically on a trellis.
Benefits Of Chickweed
Internal: Chickweed cleanses the kidneys and urinary tract. Like dandelions,
chickweed has the unique ability to remove fluids from the body without depleting
potassium levels like pharmaceuticals. Chickweed juice can help prevent leaky gut
by coating the stomach and digestive tract. I like to use a combination of chickweed
and marshmallow to lubricate the entire digestive system and repair any leaky gut
damage. External: When used regularly, chickweed salve relieves inflammation, stiff
joints and shrinks lipomas. Rinsing your dog s coat in chickweed will remove dry
skin and dandruff.

Look Pass the Label
A few weeks ago, I visited the Museum of Modern Art. As I was going through the
second exhibition a particular painting caught my attention. Still life with three
puppies by Paul Gauguin was titled. My first encounter with this painting was
through the title, which made me create negative hypothesis on what the painting
was depicting. When looking at this painting all I could think about was my lack of
fascination towards animals, especially puppies, while the person standing next to
me was sighing and smiling about according to her how cute the puppies are .
Unlike that person, I am not an admirer of puppies and as result I move quickly
from the painting. However, as I made a second round on the exhibition, this time
when I saw the painting I was beginning to notice things like shapes, symbols and
colors and immediately forgot about my initial reaction. I begin to realize that there
might be more to the painting than what I originally saw, but I have been blind from
my initial judgments.
In my second observation I was able to look pass this initial judgments drawn by the
title. The title Still Life with Three Puppies confirm my assumptions about the
painting and prevented me from continuing seeing what the painting is trying to
depict. This name limited my thinking and didn t allow me to see the painting from
what it is.
In the still life with three puppies, Paul Gauguin painted the entire canvas white and

The Significance Of Water In The Alchemist By Paulo
Coelho
Is water just water or is there more to it? Water holds life and is needed to survive.
Water can be used to travel to wonderful places and go on adventures. Water is in
the air, in all living things, and everywhere. Water is not just water. Water plays a
role in many and is important to the universe and the way it functions. Water has a
big purpose, and in the story, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, he uses the quote
discovering and achieving one s personal legend, to introduce the theme that everyone
and everything had a purpose and destiny. Everything has their own personal legend,
their own way of achieving it, and that all of it comes from the same hand.
Generally speaking, everyone and everything has their own personal legend or
destiny in life. The King, Fatima, and the Englishman all had personal legends or
destinies to achieve and even more so all the Englishman s books were about people
who had achieved their personal legends too. It is stated, in The Life of Paulo
Coelho as Reflected in the Alchemist: An Expressive Approach that both Santiago
and Coelho, himself, have purpose to fulfill their own spiritual journey...they work at
some professions to realize their dream, (Fajriani 1). This specifically points out that
both of them traveled to find themselves and to concur their destiny or personal
legend. In result, shows that not only did Santiago have a personal legend but also
that Coelho in reality has his own purpose too. Then, in The Alchemist, it points out

My favourite scene with the 2 of them was near the end when there in concert
singing Ring of Fire . It s one of my favourite Johnny Cash songs and these 2
managed to convince me with this performance that they were actually John and
June. Without these 2 actors I don t think this movie would have been as remarkable
as they managed to make it.
One film that was very close to this one was last years highly famous, Ray . The
biography of blind musician ray Charles. Both are high profile motion pictures
about major recording stars who recently died (Cash passed away in 2003, four
months after the death of his wife, June Carter). The music the 2 of them play is
different, but there are very similar plot fundamentals, among which are drug use.
Walk the Line I think is a better film. It s put together with more style, and it never
seems to get boring, unlike Ray which near the end seems to drag on for a bit. Ray
had much more fantasy as opposed to Walk the Line which was all completely
based on Cash s own words. This movie also has a powerful plotline that Ray didn t,
a love story! To me, that s what made this film much better than Ray .
Overall I really enjoyed this movie; the only thing I want to complain about is the
lack of Bob Dylan. It is a known fact that Dylan single handedly revived Cash s
career, yet they only mention him a few times throughout the
The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin Essay
In the book, The Fire Next Time James Baldwin the author and narrator of the book
writes about his childhood growing up in Harlem and what he witnessed and
learned as he grew up. When Baldwin was fourteen he saw Harlem in a completely
different way. He saw that the terrible influence of the streets were slowly trying to
creep up to him and take him over. The people around him helped with these
influences like his father who told him that he was heading down that road as well
just like his friends. The only people who blocked off these influences were the
good church going people and the girls who saw the influence of the streets and
they wanted to be god s decoy by saving the souls of the boys through marriage.
The influence of the streets is one of the ways it could have shaped Baldwin s
identity. It could have shaped it for the worst if he had been completely succumb
to it. James Baldwin wants to find out is shaping and defending our identities more
real to us than achieving our humanity. James Baldwin s idea of humanity is that

Managing Change in Organisations Essay
How bold are the employees in expressing their emotions. Few are bold enough to

The Star Wars Film On The Vietnam War
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... This was the beginning of the first film
of one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. Not only did the films
eventually lead to a gross of over $27 billion between the box office, DVDs, toys,
video games, etc, but it also influenced America and the rest of the world. (Forbes)
The Star Warsfilms show similarities to various aspects of history and American
society. It has been proven that George Lucas wrote the movies based on The
Vietnam War, with aspects of other American events. It is evident that these
aspects have had a major influence on the concept of War in America after the
release and success of the Star Wars movies. This will be investigated by analyzing
the movies, critical reviews, and other texts relating to the subject. Star Wars was
originally released in 1977 and became one of the largest grossing films of all time.
George Lucas developed two additional sequels and a prequel that developed the
extremely successful franchise. The first film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

Speech On Surrogate Mother Surrogacy
SURROGATE MOTHERHOOD CHANGING PARADIGM IN INDIAN SOCIAL
SCENARIO
In all cultures of the world, motherhood is something which is considered to lie at the
heart of the meaning of love. The concept of a woman s love for her children is
viewed as the most powerful, ferocious, tender and unconditional love that exists.
Motherhood for Indian women is a psychospiritual phenomena and not just a
psychosexual one. This psychospiritual meaning of all the institutions of
socialization, particularly marriage of which a child is the outcome, makes the Indian
context different from other societies. The preparation for mother baby interactions
begin much before a woman actually attains motherhood. Now the term motherhood
is expanded to the surrogate motherhood, which means that a women helps women

thatwill have a material economic impact on the financial position of the business,
should be disclosed to probable and potential readers of the statements. Such

the building of a new wing, or the future acquisition of another property. A restaurant

When firms enter new markets or businesses, the way they structure these new
businesses can result in greater complexity and less transparency. For instance, a firm
that keeps each business separate will be easier to value than one that squeezes all the
businesses into a single entity.
The cause of poor transparency, however, is less important than its effect on a
company s ability to give investors the critical information they need to value their
investments. If investors neither believe nor understand financial statements, the
performance and fundamental value of that company remains either irrelevant or
distorted. Mounting evidence suggests that the market gives a higher value to firms
that are upfront with investors and analysts. Transparency pays, companies with
fuller disclosure win more trust from investors. Relevant and reliable information
means less risk to investors and thus a lower cost of capital, which naturally
translates into higher valuations. Of course, there are two ways to interpret this
evidence. One is that the market rewards more transparent companies with higher
valuations because the risk of unpleasant surprises is believed to be lower. The other
interpretation is that companies with good results usually release their earnings
earlier. Companies that are doing well have nothing to hide and are eager to
publicize their good performance. It is in their best
Wordsworth And Shelley s On Powers And Illusions Of

The Romantic period, a time that writers such as Wordsworth and Shelley focused
their writing in the centre of life and social importance. An important aspect of
Romanticism: its emphasis upon the power and terrors of the inner imaginative life
(Watson, 2012, p. 1). The Prelude celebrates Wordsworth s life retained through
memories and with the act of remembering, depicting emotions and experiences.
Whereas, Shelley and the Ode to the West Wind engaged his audience with inner
and outer lives situations, ideas and elements of nature that represent his own
position and ideas. This essay will compare and contrast Wordsworth recollections
and Shelley dramatizations of the powers and terrors of the inner imaginative life .
Also considering, rhyme scheme, stanza forms, the reasons for the use of assonance
and alliteration, and other poetic techniques. Finally, how do these effects relate to
the main question. When given consideration to the poems, the descriptions
demonstrated a deeper power of inner imaginative life. The power as stated comes
from the heart or the soul, but also somehow from outside (The Open University,
2012, Romantic authorship, transcript p. 1). In comparison, both poets combine
natural landscape with sublime vision of poetic power, that creates debates to what
is real and or subjective. The Romantic period required authors to fulfil the

technology. This period of time is referred to as the Roaring twenties, a decade of
excitement, success and determination. This era acquired its name from the boom of
thousands of ideas that were not only thought of, but brought to life. These new

had been around for decades, but it was not until the 1920 s that scientists
perfected the advanced technology. Many inventors came into play when it came
to the various systems used to create the first T.V., but no one is to be named the
inventor. Scientists spent decades trying to find a breakthrough, and it was not
until the 21th century that it was found. Charles Francis Jenkin s system helped
lead to the first construction of the T.V. He had demonstrated a scanning system
with a revolving disk, he called it radio vision. Jenkins system worked but the
images were blurry. Another inventor named Herbert E. Ives invented his own
system called the 185 line system. Philo Taylor Farnsworth was another key
inventor. In 1927, he developed the image dissector. This was the first ever working
electronic camera tube. Philo was motivated by his system and continued trying. His
hard work led him to invent the first fully electronic T.V. system. A radio
corporation named the RCA, was very intrigued by his work and sent their own
engineer to Philo s lab. This engineer perfected Philo s iconoscope; a camera tube (
History of Television ). After this perfection of the T.V., the United Statesof America
was changed forever. Soon after, there was a rapid growth in technology. The T.V.
brought entertainment and opened peoples eyes to the good and bad parts of
American culture, through the images and movies shown on the screen. Today, over

Appeal to Aesthetics in Death in Venice Essay
In the late 19th century decadence was a tremendously popular theme in European
literature. In addition, the degeneracy of the individual and society at large was
represented in numerous contemporary works by Mann. In Death in Venice, the
theme of decadence caused by aestheticism appears through Gustav von Achenbach s
eccentric, specifically homoerotic, feelings towards a Polish boy named Tadzio.
Although his feelings spring from a sound source, the boy s aesthetic beauty,
Aschenbach becomes decadent in how excessively zealous his feelings are, and his
obsession ultimately leads to his literal and existential destruction. This exemplifies
how aestheticism is closely related to, and indeed often the cause of decadence.
Although the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sets up the binary opposition between Munich and Venice, self control and the
slavery of the self to depraved passion. One of the ways in which Mann establishes
his novel as the literary landscape for decadent and aesthetic writing is through the
language he appropriates in describing each city. There lacks a sense of elegance
with Mann s description of aspects concerning Germany and a typical Aschenbach.
This can be contrasted with the eloquent description given to Venice, He saw it once
more, that landing place that takes the breath away, that amazing group of incredible
structures the Republic set up to meet the awe struck eye of the approaching
seafarer: the airy splendor of the palace and Bridge of Sighs. The obvious pleasure
that Aschenbach feels as a result of the aesthetically pleasing city foreshadows how
aestheticism will ultimately lead to his death and decay, important ideas within the
context of decadence.
Naomi Ritters points out that the city is then infected by this grimy disease, this
disease goes on the kill many throughout the city. The disgusting sickness highlights
the darkness of the city and paradoxically diverges from the visual beauty of the city.
Ritters calls this an apt oxymoron in the context of aestheticism and decadence a
terrible beauty a danger concealed by
The Contributions Of Neo-Colonialism During The Cold
War
Frantz Fanon argued that during the Cold War the U.S. and Soviet Union were
interested in decolonizing countries because they wanted to practice neo colonialism,
whereby they maintain power and influence in a decolonized country so they could
continue its exploitation. Fanon argues that the U.S. and Soviet fleet continuously
invaded Third World countries like Cuba and Laos promising them independence
from the colonizers, but in turn these Cold Warpowers exploited these countries. For
example, in the movie Burn, the English agent William Walker supported the slave
Jose Dolores in a slave revolt to gain independence against the Portuguese colonizers
on the island of Queimada because the English just wanted to get rid of the
Portuguese, so the English could establish a more profitable and tax free exploitation
of the islands sugar plantation. This example of the English supporting decolonization
shows that they just supported decolonization because they wanted to have full
control of the colonized area to exploit the sugar plantations. Fanon explains that new
nations became economically dependent on these Cold War powers in order to build
urban transportation and infrastructure to modernize their country and escape the
constant poverty and hunger they faced. Neocolonialism during the Cold War created
a dependency in postcolonial countries because they relied on aid and financial credit
from the U.S. or the Soviet Union. However, Fanon argues that when the colonized

In 1895, Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts (United States) established a
population of domestic white brown rats to study the effects of diet and for other
physiological studies. Over the years, rats have been used in many experimental
studies, which have added to our understanding of genetics, diseases, the effects of
drugs, and other topics that have provided a great benefit for the health and wellbeing
of humankind. Laboratory rats have also proved valuable in psychological studies of
learning and other mental processes (Barnett 2002). A 2007 study found rats to
possess metacognition, a mental ability previously only found in humans and some
primates.[1][2]

Heraclitus And Parmenides Research Paper
The thinkers of the sixth and fifth centuries B.C.E. in Greece are known today as
the pre Socratic philosophers. All the pre Socratic thinkers had a common goal, a
goal in which to create a theory of the cosmos. Kosmos is the Greek word for
world. The thinkers were able to create these theories using observation and reason.
Two philosophers of this time with very different theses were Heraclitus and
Parmenides. Heraclitus believed change is the key feature of reality, whereas
Parmenides believed nothing ever changes and that motion is an illusion.
Parmenides theory was defended by Zeno, another pre Socratic philosopher. Which
position is more sound? Heraclitus was a philosopher from Ephesus in the century
470 B.C.E. One of his most famous sayings is There is an exchange of all things for
fire and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this statement, Heraclitus is reducing all things to one element, fire. Fire is this
thing that is there and is not there. The image of it is used in a figurative sense, the
form of it is stable and in the flames, everything changes. Another one of his
sayings is You cannot step in the same river twice (Palmer, 30). By saying this,
Heraclitus is implying that water is constantly flowing, making it almost impossible
to be in the same water more than one time. This never stopping flow of water again
reiterates his point that there is always change. The examples of fire and water are
just two ways to demonstrate change. Another more complex way of looking at
change is life and the transition from childhood to adulthood. In the transition to
adulthood, childhood is lost along with friends. The friends one has in elementary
school may differ when they transition to middle school and high school. Similarly,
as they go off to college, being that they know no one, they are forced to make new
friends. Then, because there is
Black Money
Black money is hot topic of common debate in the country now. This article explains
in easily understandable way the various aspects of black money, starting with
defining black money, generation of black money, how black money is washed and
used as normal money, and need to tackle the black money menace, and other related
aspects
What does the term Black Money mean?
Black money means, the money or income not declared for tax to the govt or relevant
authorities, and hence the tax for which is not paid to the government. Thus, in simple
words black money is income on which tax is not paid and deliberately evaded. How
black money is generated?

The huge flow of foreign capital to stock market and real estate are pointers to this.
Feeble law enforcement and slow legal system Law enforcement action against tax
evasion, is very weak due to reasons starting from corrupt officials to shortage of
manpower for proper investigation information. Moreover the court formalities take a
long time to come to a conclusive stage of conviction and actual punishment. This
encourages others to continue without moral fear. What is the impact of black money
on economy?
Country does not get its normal legitimate revenues due to evasion of taxes. As huge
amount of money is hidden, many vital statistics needed for macro planning the
country s welfare measures and programmers are distorted. The money needed for
many welfare measures are not available for the productive economy. When black
money is generated outside the country by Indian nationals or taken away from India
to foreign centres, the foreign exchange reserves get affected. The black money
returns to our country through routes via different countries, and different entities
that ultimately the real origin cannot be traced, and the money then gets washed and
enters as normal legal money.
Black money does not just affect the macro economy, and functions as a parallel
economy. It affects the common man in his daily life. The escalation of real estate,
artificial boosting of gold price and
Masquerade Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, Arranged
By...
Out of the three pieces that the Artiste Orchestra prepared to the Masquerade
Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, arranged by Bob Phillips, was definitely the
hardest piece. Not only was it long, but it was fast and had passages with difficult
fingerings. By no means have I perfected this piece, but I used several different
practice techniques to help me master the fast tempoand difficult fingerings. The
technique that I used the most was probably using a metronome. I would start by
playing a passage very slowly, probably around 80 100 beats per minute depending
on the passage. Then, once I had mastered the passage at that speed, I would increase
the tempo by 10 beats per minute and practice the passage at that speed until I had
mastered it. Then, I would increase the tempo another 10 beats per minute and repeat
the same process. I would continue this same process until I had mastered that section
at tempo. It was at these slower speeds that I could really focus on the little things,
such as intonation, rhythm, dynamics and articulation because by focusing on these
elements as slow speeds, it would be easier to bring them into the piece at faster
speeds. Another practice technique I attempted to use to practice Halloween
Spooktacular was playing along with a recorded version of the piece. This is a
technique I used for several pieces last year because I find it helpful to hear all the
parts of a piece, not just my own. Unfortunately, after one or two attempts to play
along
Flanker Brands
A brand portfolio is all the lines and brands that a company offers. The four brand
roles in a brand portfolio are flankers, cash cows, low end entry, and high end
prestige (Kotler Keller, 2012, p. 123). Flanker brands are usually in addition to a
brand that is offering a high quality product at a higher price (Giddens). The flanker
is supposed to help gain market share without cannibalizing the main brand. A good
example of a flanker brand is Squire Guitars. Squire guitars are about half the price
as Fender guitars. They all look very similar but are lower quality and most are made
at a lower cost outside the United States. Cash cow brands generally have dwindling
sales but remain profitable. They require minimal marketingsupport so

However, there are some downsides to online banking, these include security, which
is normally seen as an advantage but information can be stolen be identity thieves
and this can take months or even years to rectify, and you may lose money that has
been spent by the thieves. Obviously, you would not receive the same customer
service that you would do if you walked into a bank, this means that you could lose
money by not have advice when investing or transferring

many opportunities at work, we can lose people who are close to us and lose out
on many different opportunities in our lifetime. Much like anything else in life in
order to be good at anything, one requires to put in a great deal of effort and hard
work in order to accomplish their desired goals. In order to master effective
communication and become proficient in its everyday use one must do only one
thing and that is practice. Just like the saying Practice makes perfect we must keep
in mind and try to incorporate its proper use in our everyday lives weather is at
home, at work or any public environment. Learning to communicate is a must for
every human being that wants to be successful at all times.

Macbeth murdering Duncan, Macbeth feels anxious of the prophecy the weird sisters

The Affirmative Action Debate Essay
For the sake of this essay, affirmative action in education is defined as: policies and
programs designed to advance equality of educationalopportunity for individuals
from groups that have suffered systematic historical discrimination (Mickelson 29).
What is being referred to here is race based affirmative action, or the act of taking
into consideration an applicant s race in the college admissionsprocess. This is a hot
topic all over the United States and has been for quite a while, the debate raging
between two sides: those in support of affirmative actionand those opposed. The
ethics of affirmative action itself are difficult to determine, but here an attempt will
be made to prove that affirmative action is indeed unfair. In... Show more content on

Colleges and universities followed suit and began to use affirmative action in
admissions as well (Garrison Wade and Lewis 24). Following this was a whole slew
of court cases, both supporting and condoning affirmative action. There are too many
to effectively express here. Still today the debate continues to be fueled from both
sides, neither group relenting or compromising.
The two sides in this issue are simple, supporting and opposing, and they need to be
well understood before the case against affirmative action can be attempted. Those
who support affirmative action have the general argument that it allows
disadvantaged minorities to be admitted to universities whereas without affirmative
action they would be turned down and would be unable to have any access to higher
education (Ogletree). In fact, Mary Ratliff, state and local president of the Columbia,
Mississippi NAACP branch, says this regarding affirmative action: Many African
Americans are underprivileged economically due to past inequities. To not grant any
race... based criteria would mean many African Americans...would be unable to attend
college (Darnell). While she speaks only for African Americans, this concept can be
applied to all minorities. The basic idea is that the abolishment of affirmative action
means a lower acceptance rate for minority students. Supporters also claim that
affirmative action
The Issue Of Utilitarianism On Immigration
The American Problem: The issue of utilitarianism on immigration Immigration has
been addressed as a economic and social problem by several administrations and
specially by the current one. President Trump has made important comments exalting
the negative effects of immigration. For example, During his immigrationspeech he
stated We (The current administration) have no idea who these people (immigrants)
are, where they come from. I always say Trojan Horse. Watch what s going to happen,
folks. It s not going to be pretty. . As previously stated, For Trump, Immigration is an
issue that only brings uncertainty and insecurity to America. Yet, immigration is not
a new event, it has been present since the time of the colonies and different
administration have discussed its pros and cons. From a historical standpoint, the
administration have used different mechanisms to deal with immigration. These
mechanisms such as demonizing immigration are used to criminalize unauthorized
immigration and execute heavier internal enforcement. But, is immigration actually
that harmful for the United States? From an ethical standpoint, the answer is no.
Even though different ethical theories such as Rule utilitarianismand ethics of duty
justify portraying immigration as bad for the country, The reality is different.
Immigration does not affect the economic or cultural sector. Moreover, this concept
do not improve the situation for immigrants or solve the problem of

We will explore disaster recovery from the points of view of the American Red Cross, FEMA, and other key agencies. Because when we think about it, disasters are going to happen and recovery will happen too. When disaster strikes will you be ready? We hear this all the time and I think some us are ready. But what about after? What do you do? Where do you go or turn for help? Most us will turn to our leaders for guidance and help. To look at recovery lets first define it. The dictionary defines recovery as a return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength. The action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost. Disaster recovery is the area of security planning that deals with protecting an organization or community from the effect of significant negative events. This provides a guideline that ensures that researchers minimize the amount of risk a study may impose to a participant. When planning a study, it is also important that each of the participants are provided with a sense of security and not placed at a disadvantage. When participants enter into a study, a level of trust is established, and their identities and the information they provide must be protected and never be used against them or exploited for any reason. Respect for human dignity includes two rights; the right to self determination and the right to full disclosure. When conducting a research study these two rights must be maintained to ensure that the participants are not coerced into participation and that they are making the choice of their own free will. Patients must be provided with all the information necessary to make an informed decision and voluntarily participate. No deception or concealed data collection can be done because it will violate the patients rights. Justice represents two rights; the right to fair treatment and the right to privacy. The right to fair treatment consists of being treated in a nonjudgmental, nonprejudiced manner and with respect. Those that do not complete the experiment cannot be denied treatment that may be established from the information gathered, nor can they be denied treatment if they seek outside treatment. Primary has unprocessed and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas secondary means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been researched by numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important info for the use of exploratory study as in this case. 3.2 Primary data collection Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used: direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview. The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked in a semi structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. To conduct an interview, the queries are based on the idea to rely on the basic aim and objective of the field of the study and also highly
  • 8. Is the story Daughters of the late Colonel more comic... Is the story Daughters of the late Colonel more comic than tragic for the reader overall? Be sure to comment on Mansfield s use of language. The story Daughters of the late Colonel , written by Katherine Mansfield takes place during Victorian times, based around two sister s whose father had recently died. Mansfield describes the struggles of these two women as they try to express their femininity and overcome the barriers of etiquette and the presence of their father, whom they feared. The story ends as the sisters Josephine and Constantia attempt to break free of their suppressed world but fail to, thus ending the story in tragedy. Despite this the path leading to the tragic ending is riddled in humorous moments. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another section which is both humorous as well as pitiable at the same time can be seen during the time when Nurse Andrews comes by to visit, but eats all their butter: Nurse Andrews was simply fearful about butter... She had that maddening habit of asking for just an inch more bread to finish what she had on her plate, and then, at the last mouthful, absent mindedly of course it wasn t absent mindedly taking another helping This entire section is written in Josephine s voice, and thus allows the reader to view her opinion on Nurse Andrews. fearful is not very commonly used for such situations, and sounds amusing to the reader. This is also seen through the repetition of absent mindedly as well as the use of dashes which allows the reader to visualize Josephine snapping at the gesture. However, even though she is pictured like this Josephine is unable to stop Nurse Andrews in real life. She merely got very red when this happened, and she fastened her small, bead like eyes on the table cloth . This again highlights the dismal state the women are in though they are the masters of the house, a common nurse is able to dominate them, while the sisters are too weak to do anything against her. However, this comical moment also highlights a more serious, tragic point about the sisters. The word fearful is a pun; it also highlights the fact that Josephine is fearful that Nurse Andrew will take all their butter, as it is

  • 10. How Native Korean Speakers Produce English Unstressed... 4.Research Questions and Hypotheses This study focuses on how native Korean speakers produce English unstressed vowels. When an unstressed vowel is ought to be produced as a schwa, the study will be on what the alternative vowel sounds of the schwa could be.As mentioned above, English and Korean have non comparable prosodic features from each other. The goal of this study is to investigate the possible effects of prosodic characteristics of the L1 Korean on the production of L2 English unstressed vowels. Since Korean has no stress pattern in lexical word level, it is expected that Korean speakers will produce a full vowel affected by the Korean prosody which has only stressed full vowels. Further, it is more likely that they have difficulty in producing reduced intensities and shorter duration for unstressed vowels compared to the stressed vowels. In terms of vowel quality, if the vowels are produced as non reduced vowels, the realization will be full vowels. This study focuses on the acoustic analysis of the vowel quality of the reduced vowels. As far as concerned with which vowels will be produced as full vowels, it is predicted that the participants will produce other full vowels influenced by the assimilation effect of their L1, Korean. 5.Method In order to investigate how a native Korean speaker produces unstressed vowels which are affected by the L1 Korean, I had four participants consisting of two native Korean speakers and two English native speakers who
  • 11. Disadvantages Of Using Body Cameras Disadvantages One disadvantage regarding the use of Body cameras is not just the cost of the cameras and the data storage but also the infrastructure that needs to be maintained. As time goes on capacities will be exceeded, the networks will continue to degrade, and the supplementary equipment required to store the videos will continue to degrade or become obsolete. (1) In addition to this there is the cost of employing people to catalog and retrieve any video footage related to subpoenas, investigations and public information records requests as well as software licensing fees. (3) Approximately 25 percent of the videos that are collected are related to crimes and they must be kept for possible judicial purposes. One police department reported having 35,000 videos retained that met this requirement of possibly judicial need. (4) Police departments across the country that have already instituted the use of body cameras have seen the costs of maintaining these videos run into the millions of dollars just to manage the data not counting the cost of buying the cameras. (11) Another disadvantage is that departments are struggling with the issue of whether or not officers should be allowed to view videos before preparing their police reports. Concerns are that if officers are allowed to view the video then their memory of the crime may be influenced by what they see on the video and may not be a true reflection of what actually occurred which makes it unfair for both the

When people learn a foreign language, they usually want to make use of that language to communicate with people who speak the same language. They can find themselves in the need of understanding them and talking to them. As Raimes (1983) states, listening and speaking are, regardless of whom the people using the language are, at least as important as the other skills to communicate. Thus, it is essential for students to understand the language they are exposed to and respond appropriately so that they can become competent users of that particular language. Seferoglu and Uzakgöre (2004) cited in Tavil (2010) indicate that listening is an interactive process. Simone de Beauvoir, Frantz Fanon, and Michel Foucault all seek to establish a voice for the minority, and a path to freedom and liberation from the dominance of the normalized majority. In her work The Second Sex. De Beauvoir tackles the oppression of women. Simone de Beauvoir defines the lived experience of women as one of otherness, and from this stems the oppression of women. De Beauvoir explains the lived experiences of women when she states that he is the Subject; he is the Absolute. She is the other. The man constitutes himself at the subject and the absolute, both descriptors place complete emphasis and importance on the man, the women are only relevant in their existence as the other. Since women are presently regulated to the category of the other, humanity is male, and man defines women, not in herself, but in relation to himself; she is not considered an autonomous being. Without a form of autonomy women have no basis for understanding themselves as women. If women must identify themselves through men, there is no way to escape a society in which men are the center of society and women are merely peripheral beings that conflate themselves to the wills and wishes of the more relevant man. De Beauvoir s notion of liberation and freedom called on women to reclaim the category of womanhood to create an autonomous and working woman who can break out of the master slave dynamic created by the

Water plays a role in many and is important to the universe and the way it functions. Water has a big purpose, and in the story, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, he uses the quote discovering and achieving one s personal legend, to introduce the theme that everyone and everything had a purpose and destiny. Everything has their own personal legend, their own way of achieving it, and that all of it comes from the same hand. Generally speaking, everyone and everything has their own personal legend or destiny in life. The King, Fatima, and the Englishman all had personal legends or destinies to achieve and even more so all the Englishman s books were about people who had achieved their personal legends too. It has been proven that George Lucas wrote the movies based on The Vietnam War, with aspects of other American events. It is evident that these aspects have had a major influence on the concept of War in America after the release and success of the Star Wars movies. This will be investigated by analyzing the movies, critical reviews, and other texts relating to the subject. Star Wars was originally released in 1977 and became one of the largest grossing films of all time. George Lucas developed two additional sequels and a prequel that developed the extremely successful franchise. The first film Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope placed the viewers into the middle of a civil war between The Republic and The Empire. For instance, a firm that keeps each business separate will be easier to value than one that squeezes all the businesses into a single entity. The cause of poor transparency, however, is less important than its effect on a company s ability to give investors the critical information they need to value their investments. If investors neither believe nor understand financial statements, the performance and fundamental value of that company remains either irrelevant or distorted. Mounting evidence suggests that the market gives a higher value to firms that are upfront with investors and analysts. Transparency pays, companies with fuller disclosure win more trust from investors. Relevant and reliable information means less risk to investors and thus a lower cost of capital, which naturally translates into higher valuations. Of course, there are two ways to interpret this evidence. One is that the market rewards more transparent companies with higher valuations because the risk of unpleasant surprises is believed to be lower. The other interpretation is that companies with good results usually release their earnings earlier. Companies that are doing well have nothing to hide and are eager to publicize their good performance. It is in their best

The Romantic period, a time that writers such as Wordsworth and Shelley focused their writing in the centre of life and social importance. An important aspect of Romanticism: its emphasis upon the power and terrors of the inner imaginative life (Watson, 2012, p. 1). The Prelude celebrates Wordsworth s life retained through memories and with the act of remembering, depicting emotions and experiences. Whereas, Shelley and the Ode to the West Wind engaged his audience with inner and outer lives situations, ideas and elements of nature that represent his own position and ideas. This essay will compare and contrast Wordsworth recollections and Shelley dramatizations of the powers and terrors of the inner imaginative life . Also considering, rhyme scheme, stanza forms, the reasons for the use of assonance and alliteration, and other poetic techniques. Finally, how do these effects relate to the main question. When given consideration to the poems, the descriptions demonstrated a deeper power of inner imaginative life. The power as stated comes from the heart or the soul, but also somehow from outside (The Open University, 2012, Romantic authorship, transcript p. 1). In comparison, both poets combine natural landscape with sublime vision of poetic power, that creates debates to what is real and or subjective. The Romantic period required authors to fulfil the Romantic ideology. Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 1822) with a reputation for social and political ideas

In addition, the degeneracy of the individual and society at large was represented in numerous contemporary works by Mann. In Death in Venice, the theme of decadence caused by aestheticism appears through Gustav von Achenbach s eccentric, specifically homoerotic, feelings towards a Polish boy named Tadzio. Although his feelings spring from a sound source, the boy s aesthetic beauty, Aschenbach becomes decadent in how excessively zealous his feelings are, and his obsession ultimately leads to his literal and existential destruction. This sets up the binary opposition between Munich and Venice, self control and the slavery of the self to depraved passion. One of the ways in which Mann establishes his novel as the literary landscape for decadent and aesthetic writing is through the language he appropriates in describing each city. There lacks a sense of elegance with Mann s description of aspects concerning Germany and a typical Aschenbach. This can be contrasted with the eloquent description given to Venice, He saw it once more, that landing place that takes the breath away, that amazing group of incredible structures the Republic set up to meet the awe struck eye of the approaching seafarer: the airy splendor of the palace and Bridge of Sighs. The obvious pleasure that Aschenbach feels as a result of the aesthetically pleasing city foreshadows how aestheticism will ultimately lead to his death and decay, important ideas within the context of decadence. Naomi Ritters points out that the city is then infected by this grimy disease, this disease goes on the kill many throughout the city. The disgusting sickness highlights the darkness of the city and paradoxically diverges from the visual beauty of the city. Ritters calls this an apt oxymoron in the context of aestheticism and decadence a terrible beauty a danger concealed by

The Contributions Of Neo-Colonialism During The Cold War Frantz Fanon argued that during the Cold War the U.S. and Soviet Union were interested in decolonizing countries because they wanted to practice neo colonialism, whereby they maintain power and influence in a decolonized country so they could continue its exploitation. Fanon argues that the U.S. and Soviet fleet continuously invaded Third World countries like Cuba and Laos promising them independence from the colonizers, but in turn these Cold Warpowers exploited these countries. For example, in the movie Burn, the English agent William Walker supported the slave Jose Dolores in a slave revolt to gain independence against the Portuguese colonizers on the island of Queimada because the English just wanted to get rid of the Portuguese, so the English could establish a more profitable and tax free exploitation of the islands sugar plantation. This example of the English supporting decolonization shows that they just supported decolonization because they wanted to have full control of the colonized area to exploit the sugar plantations. Fanon explains that new nations became economically dependent on these Cold War powers in order to build urban transportation and infrastructure to modernize their country and escape the constant poverty and hunger they faced. Neocolonialism during the Cold War created a dependency in postcolonial countries because they relied on aid and financial credit from the U.S. or the Soviet Union. However, Fanon argues that when the colonized sought to

All the pre Socratic thinkers had a common goal, a goal in which to create a theory of the cosmos. Kosmos is the Greek word for world. The thinkers were able to create these theories using observation and reason. Two philosophers of this time with very different theses were Heraclitus and Parmenides. Heraclitus believed change is the key feature of reality, whereas Parmenides believed nothing ever changes and that motion is an illusion. Parmenides theory was defended by Zeno, another pre Socratic philosopher. Which position is more sound? Heraclitus was a philosopher from Ephesus in the century 470 B.C.E. By saying this, Heraclitus is implying that water is constantly flowing, making it almost impossible to be in the same water more than one time. This never stopping flow of water again reiterates his point that there is always change. The examples of fire and water are just two ways to demonstrate change. Another more complex way of looking at change is life and the transition from childhood to adulthood. In the transition to adulthood, childhood is lost along with friends. The friends one has in elementary school may differ when they transition to middle school and high school. Similarly, as they go off to college, being that they know no one, they are forced to make new friends. Then, because there is

Out of the three pieces that the Artiste Orchestra prepared to the Masquerade Concert, Halloween Spooktacular, arranged by Bob Phillips, was definitely the hardest piece. Not only was it long, but it was fast and had passages with difficult fingerings. By no means have I perfected this piece, but I used several different practice techniques to help me master the fast tempoand difficult fingerings. The technique that I used the most was probably using a metronome. I would start by playing a passage very slowly, probably around 80 100 beats per minute depending on the passage. Then, once I had mastered the passage at that speed, I would increase the tempo by 10 beats per minute and practice the passage at that speed until I had mastered it. Then, I would increase the tempo another 10 beats per minute and repeat the same process. I would continue this same process until I had mastered that section at tempo. It was at these slower speeds that I could really focus on the little things, such as intonation, rhythm, dynamics and articulation because by focusing on these elements as slow speeds, it would be easier to bring them into the piece at faster speeds. Another practice technique I attempted to use to practice Halloween Spooktacular was playing along with a recorded version of the piece. This is a technique I used for several pieces last year because I find it helpful to hear all the parts of a piece, not just my own. Unfortunately, after one or two attempts to play along

Colleges and universities followed suit and began to use affirmative action in admissions as well (Garrison Wade and Lewis 24). Following this was a whole slew of court cases, both supporting and condoning affirmative action. There are too many to effectively express here. Still today the debate continues to be fueled from both sides, neither group relenting or compromising. The two sides in this issue are simple, supporting and opposing, and they need to be well understood before the case against affirmative action can be attempted. Those who support affirmative action have the general argument that it allows disadvantaged minorities to be admitted to universities whereas without affirmative action they would be turned down and would be unable to have any access to higher education (Ogletree). In fact, Mary Ratliff, state and local president of the Columbia, Mississippi NAACP branch, says this regarding affirmative action: Many African Americans are underprivileged economically due to past inequities.
