The King Of Marcus Aurelius
The son of Marcus Aurelius, Commodus Antoninus, came to power in the wake of his father s
death in March of 180 CE. From the death of Marcus Aurelius came the end to the Five Good
Emperors. Commodus reign lasted from 180 to 192 CE and he described it as a golden age. (cite)
However, this was far from the truth. Commodussuccumbed to the lure of self indulgence and
become a megalomaniac. Along with those two flaws, he also held deep antagonism against the
Senate. (cite) Arguably, the two most important aspects of his reign was: his identification with
the demigod Hercules and his participation in gladiatorial games. Commodus thought himself as
a reborn Hercules, he appeared in public places donned in a lion hide cloak. It was a reference to
the Nemean Lion that Hercules fought in his twelve labors.(cite) And even in the arena, a horror
to the senate but possibly to the delight of the plebs, he wore this fighting. But there was a belief
held strongly by the elite that Roman Emperors were not supposed to do this. But his love for
the games was so immense he partook in them regardless of their beliefs. Commodus
participated in the gladiatorial games for his own self indulgence and fantasies about being
Hercules. To Roman elite, seeing the Emperor do this was appalling because gladiators were not
supposed to be high class; they were slaves or prisoners, and this is reason the Roman elite
disliked his behavior. Senators were forced to witness a number of these games. It

Phillips Genetically Engineered Foods
In Genetically Engineered Food the author starts by defining what the term is and then proceeds
to bring up the question of whether this is a good or bad idea. Phillips does a great job by not
showing bias because she then proceeds to her Overview in which she explain about the topic
and gives examples that support both sides of the argument. Many of these examples are real life
examples from people around the US. Phillips then goes on to her next section called Background
which she explains in a different way than her overview. In this section she sticks more to the
scientific side of how things are done and the history of it such as how long these GMO methods
have been done. Her Background section describes more research ideas than

Mirror Image
Adapting to changes is one of the most difficult mental and physical challenges a person can face.
The struggle to adapt to change makes a strong presence in both Alice in Lena Coakley s Mirror
Image, and Barry, from W.D. Valgardson s Saturday Climbing. Alice is the protagonist in Mirror
Image and the author illustrates the struggle of self acceptance she faces after having a brain
transplant. Barry is the protagonist of Saturday Climbing and he tries to cope with the fact that his
daughter is not a child anymore and seeks independence. Both characters have many similarities
regarding their struggle with adapting. Changeis a very strong, opposing force that emphasizes the
battle both characters face to achieve inner peace.

Alice and Barry have family struggles where their loved ones are against them. Additionally,
Barry and Alice are have conflicts with the media. However, Alice is the centre of attention for
the media because she is the first person with a successful brain transplant, whereas Barry can be
a used in the media as a representation of the conflicts a father faces in a typical father daughter
relationship. Barry has trust issues with his daughter, ever since she came home with the sweet
sour smell of marijuana clung to her (Coakley 23). Similarly, Alice s twin sister, Jenny, has
trouble trusting Alice when she wants to read her diary. Jenny denies her and replies that she
[has] to get to know [her] better (Coakley 2), enforcing that she does not trust her. Despite these
similarities, they have many differences in their struggles with the people around them. Alice
has family issues where her mother and twin sister have trouble accepting Alice in her new
body; it is jarring for them. Jenny is the most critical in her family, as she feels as if [Alice] is
dead (Coakley 6). This shows that she thinks the Alice she knew is dead, even though Alice tries
to prove that she is still alive. Despite Jenny feeling this way, Alice s mother also feels uneasy
and uncomfortable around her. Alice observes that her mother may think that she is not the same
daughter she knew before (Coakley 6), and that she tries to avoid any eye contact with her.
Another difference between Barry and Alice is that, Alice has a struggle with society and the
donor s family. People in her community have trouble recognizing her and they mistake her for
Gail, Alice s donor. The Jarreds, Gail s family, also have a grudge against Alice; Mrs. Jarred feels
helpless and desperate that she cannot see her supposed daughter. In contrast to Alice s situation,
Barry struggles to rekindle his relationship with his

Satire In Northanger Abbey
Satire is a literary device used by writers typically to critique society or an individual. It can be
done a variety of ways, including humor, irony, and ridicule. An example of a writer using satire to
critique society would be Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey. Using a variety of techniques, Austen
criticizes how society viewed novels and the people who write them by parodying common tropes
in novels.
Most novels just want to pull the reader in, and make them forget that they are reading a novel, but
Austen does not allow this. The very first line in Northanger Abbey is No one who had ever seen
Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine (1). By pointing
out that the main character is supposed to be the heroine, Austen draws attention to the fact that this
is a novel. However, while Catherine is in fact a heroine, it is also states from the beginning that
she does not match the expectations of the average heroine. So right from the beginning, the reader
knows that while this is a novel, it is not going to be a typical one. It is in fact, going to parodying
and critiquing some common aspects of novels. Austen continues on, and not so subtly points out
the ways that Catherine differs from the heroines normally found in novels.
For Catherine s ...situation in life, the character of her father and mother, her own person and
disposition were all equally against her (Austen 1). She was fairly normal and did not have any of
the commonly used characteristics of heroines working in her favor, despite being a heroine herself.
Austen writes Catherine this was to parody the way women are written in novels. There normally
has to be some catalyst that makes the heroine special, different than the average women. However,
Catherine wasn t incredibly poor, had two well tempered parents, and preferred other hobbies ...to
the more heroic enjoyments... (Austen 1) that heroines were normally fond of. By completely
disregarding the characteristics normally attributed to heroines, Austen creates a character that
would not fit into the normal novel. She essentially gives Catherine the character of someone who
is almost the antithesis of what a heroine normally is, and by doing this critiques the

Dwarf Planet Ceres Research Paper
Ceres Exploration This space based planetary exploration mission targets the dwarf planet Ceres,
which is the mission subject, or more specifically, the surface of the dwarf planet is the subject.
The surface of Ceres is covered in countless small, young craters (Davis, n.d.). Within some of
Ceres craters, there are regions that are always in shadow. It s possible that without direct
sunlight, these cold traps could have water ice in them for long periods of time (Davis, n.d.).
The sign of water on the dwarf planet could mean big for the scientists in earth. It suggests a
possible sign of life on the dwarf planet. The mission s objectives are to study the surface of
Ceres to find water or signs of water and, if water is found, study the possibility of life on the
dwarf planet. A rover will be the payload of the mission, trying to carry out the mission s objectives.
The mission duration will be an unlimited amount of time or until total and permanent
communication loss happens with the rover. This mission will ultimately benefit NASA and
humankind. These can also be called the mission users.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If water is found on the surface of Ceres, there is a possibility of life on the dwarf planet. The
rover will use the equipment and technology used on the Curiosity rover on mars to study the
possibility of life on the dwarf planet ( In Situ, n.d.). One of the goals the Curiosity rover was to
determine if life ever arose on Mars ( Science Goal 1, n.d.). The technology used on the Curiosity
rover had a goal to find life, so why not use the same equipment to find life on another planet.
Finding life on other planets is a fundamental goal to humankind. Studying the life could help
NASA and scientist unlock more knowledge on how life began on Earth. That knowledge will
benefit humankind to better understand the universe and how it all began

The Australian and American Freedom Rides Essay
The Australian and American Freedom Rides This essay briefly discusses the similarities and
differences of the Australian and American Freedom Rides history. Throughout the essay, there is a
discussion on what the reasons were for the protest of the Freedom Rides. It also points out the
duration of the protest and the major locations where they were held. The essay also shows the
different reactions to the protest and the influential behaviour it results in. The American Freedom
Rideswere motivated by the Journey of Reconciliation in 1947, led by civil rights activists Bayard

The duration of the American Freedom Rides occurred mainly in May 1961. Unlike in America,
the Freedom Rides in Australia took place later on the 12th February 19659; when the University of
Sydney students rode into the towns in northern New South Wales which contained large
Aboriginal populations 10. One of the main towns mentioned was at Moree; where they protested in
swimming pools, attracting a lot of violence. The Freedom Rides also passed through Wellington,
Gulargambone, Lismore, Bowraville and Kempsey. The duration of the Australian Freedom Rides
occurred mainly in February 1965.
In America, the reaction to the protest was very intense. Throughout the protest, the Freedom
Riders came across violence and the reaction of the protest was ruthless. While having to delay
their journey to change a slashed tire, one bus was firebombed and the Freedom Riders were
beaten (by a white mob). The second bus was similarly attacked and the passengers beaten .11 In
America, there was a Freedom Ride accompanied by the State Highway Patrol, taking their journey
headed for Montgomery; but when local police failed to protect them, they were again beaten 12.
Similar to America, the Freedom Rides in Australia gained publicity when the students were set
upon by angry crowds and placed under police protection 13. The students pressed into the
entrance of the Moree swimming pool, at the same time a furious crowd booed and catcalled 14.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
While teacher training instruction has long led movements in higher education toward more active
learning (student engagement in the classroom coupled with language teaching practicums),
blended learning, with a mix of on line and in person learning opportunities, is not yet in
widespread use. Increasingly, publishers of textbooks provide on line resources, both audio and
video, but faculty members need time to explore how to use these resources more effectively.
With continuing support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the World Language
Enrichment and Acquisition Program (WLEA) at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, offered an
intensive TESOL certificate course in June of 2013 on Hampshire s campus, immediately
following the end of the spring semester. The course was opened to community members and Five
College students from Hampshire, UMASS, Mount Holyoke, Smith, and Amherst College. The
TESOL certificate is intended for participants who are interested in teaching in community English
language programs and or teaching English overseas. Participants in the program met face to face

The Role Of Chief Role Of Chief Financial Officer
GC3 was established with the purchase of fourteen Coffee Hut stores in Columbus, OH, by three
former Coffee Hut associates. Over the next few years, GC3 expanded into Cincinnati and
Cleveland, but have kept Columbus as their regional headquarters. Moving forward, GC3 grew
with the purchase of Great Scoops and DaDeli. Due to this extreme growth, and the need for
centralized decision making, most of GC3 staff will reside at the company s headquarters, aside
from store managers and administrative staff.
With the continued growth, it is important to develop a corporate structure. The three forerunners
of GC3 are Tony, Bruce and Bonnie. Tony has taken the role of Chief Financial Officer. To be
successful, Tony will need to build a team to meet the demands of the entire organization. Since
Tony works at headquarters, a proposed IT and Accounting group will report to him. These added
responsibilities will create a need for Tony to have one main direct report, a Finance Manager. The
Finance Manager will directly manage the newly added IT department and Accounting department.
Since headquarters will be responsible for all accounting functions throughout the organization, an
AP/AR clerk will directly report to the Accounting and Payroll Specialist. With the many new
proposed software additions, an IT person will be needed. IT will reside at headquarters and have
the capabilities to remotely access all PC s at any given time to monitor and troubleshoot
technology issues.

International Adoption Essay example
International Adoption
When a mission team from south Florida arrived in Camp Haitia, they saw what to them was the
most poverty stricken land on earth. Some of the men were literally ill at the sight of the filth in
the rivers, on the land, and covering the children. Because Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the
world, families do not even have enough to provide for their children, and many of them are left to
fend for themselves. The mission team witnessed them bathing in polluted waters and scrounging
for non existent food. I asked one member of this mission team if adoption was a possibility for any
of these kids. His response was enthusiastic and emotional. I witnessed first hand for months his

Still another reason why fewer children are available for adoption is the legalization of abortion.
While these are not all necessarily negative reasons, they still are a discouragement to families
desiring a child. Because there are so few children placed for adoption, the current waiting list is
seven years or more (Fulton 2). International adoptions, however, can take as little as four months
(Jeffreys 9), and at most one year (Fulton 2). Also, the adoption process itself is much simpler
when dealing internationally. There are fewer restrictive eligibility requirements consisting of a
home study by a social worker, police records clearing the perspective parents of past wrong doing,
financial statements, a marriage certificate, proof of citizenship, medical histories, and reference
letters (Fulton 3). The applicants may work through specific orphanages, adoption agencies, or
their personal attorney. International laws state that agencies must be non profit organizations/and
may not operate on the basis of region or creed (Hibbs 211). This extends the possibility of
adoption to a greater economical and sociological group.
Two reasons that there is such an abundance of homeless children in foreign countries are poverty
and overpopulation. For instance, because China houses nearly one forth of the worlds population,
they have set a one child per family law (Fulton 3). This forces the

The Inspector s style of interrogation could be considered as rather unorthodox. He does not

Pilot Deviation, is defined as the actions that result in a deviation from Federal law. Pilot
Deviation Reports are used to document other incidents and violations of the Federal Aviation

What Dreams May Come Essay
What Dreams May Come
The movie What Dreams May Come gives a rather positive view on the afterlife. I think most of
the ideas and views shown in the film are related to many of society s main beliefs pertaining to
death and the afterlife, but the views are left broad enough so they can relate to any specific
religion. Personally, I have no concrete belief concerning the afterlife, or whether or not if there
even is life after death, but I can see why many people would agree with many of the films
perspectives. The movie is shown through Robin Williams s character, ChrisNielson who s first

Characteristics Of Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton demonstrated many dinosaur characteristics and behaviors. The
dinosaurs were fictionally characterized to appeal to the readers. By examining the dinosaur s
appearance and behaviors of dinosaurs such as the duckbilled dinosaur, velociraptor,
hypsilophodontids, dilophosaurs, Triceratops, apatosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurs, and
maiasaurs distinguished whether the evidence existed in the field of paleontology. The behaviors
and characteristics of the dinosaurare divided into three factors as behaviors that were supported,
not supported, and no evidence to support or refute the behavior.
First, Crichton noted that duckbilled dinosaurs were herbivores which are supported by a trace
fossil found in the coal beds of the western North America that indicated footprints with plant
fossils (Martin 2006). Furthermore, duckbilled dinosaurs lived in a vegetated environment that
they had to consume enough food relative to their body size. Duckbilled dinosaurs had

Case Study On Business Email Compromise
Business Email Compromise by RГ©da Herbzi Business Email Compromise is a dangerous Fraud
case where fraudsters spend the least and can obtain a hefty reward through manipulating
companies into making payments. Cyber thieves have stolen $2 billion from 12,000 businesses
using a scam that starts when business executives or employees email accounts are compromised or
spoofed. The fraudster is able to steal money with the help of an unwitting accomplice, an employee
who is fooled into submitting a wire request. From the perspective of the company s financial
institution, the transaction appears completely legitimate. Even confirmation calls or other out of
band authentication will reach the employee who did indeed submit the request. Use various media
sources (internet, newspapers, etc.) to identify an event within the last 5 years in which a company

Good and Evil in Dante’s Divine Comedy and Chaucer’s

Good and evil are concocted differently in every imagination. To some, evil is the most appalling
sins, including such heinous acts such as murder, rape, distortion, or betrayal. To others, evil might
be something so simple as indecisiveness, extravagance, or vain glory. Goodness is ambiguous to
mankind as well because one man might define goodness as the ordinary man living a free life, yet
another might conclude that true goodness is obtainable only through a perfect, honorable lifestyle,
completely abstaining from worldly endeavors. One s attitude at good and evilwill predetermine

Dante was a man with a vision. He lived in a world that was Torn by discord (Limentani,117).
Born in 1265, Dante s Florence was the center of a war ravaged Italy. He became involved in
politics at a young age and before too long became a White Guelph, one who supported the
Papacy in the fight against invading Germanic kings. 1301 was a tragic year because it marked
the beginning of the Black Guelph regime and saw Dante exiled from his home town forever.
These experiences made Dante quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for
material things is the main fault, greed which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a
cessation of strife, the establishment of universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind and
allow men to pursue the ultimate aim for which God has destined them on earth, that of exercising
constantly and to the full their distinctive quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous intellect)
(Limentani,117). He believed that all life on this earth has a purpose and meaning to it. This can
be seen in the Inferno because during the long trek through Hell Dante does almost nothing but
work to arrive a Paradise, the heavenly end to all those lacking wickedness. He traveled far trying
to make his life purposeful by working his way up to Heaven. Chaucer stood in contrast to Dante s
almost dogmatic piety and looked to other things as having

Parasitic Disease In The United States
When traveling to and from exotic locations, vacationers are warned about drinking untreated
water, swimming in freshwater lakes and streams, and against eating certain foods. The risks for
contracting a parasitic disease while abroad are pretty well defined and as a traveler you are
made aware. Less known are the risks here at home. It is a fact however that parasitic diseases in
the US are on the rise. According to Dr. Oz approximately 1 in 3 Americans is infected with an
intestinal parasite at any given time. Specific statistic are not available because most Americans
who are infected may be unaware. Often the symptoms of neglected parasitic infections are
troublesome, however, vague. Therefore treatment is not immediately sought and even

Epitaphs
Epitaphs are short texts honoring the deceased. The Odd fellows cemetery is home to numerous
graves with numerous different epitaphs. A common type of epitaph is a religiously based
epitaph. These include quotes from the Bible or references to God in general. Some examples
of these type of epitaphs are found in the Odd fellows cemetery. These include epitaphs from the
graves of Eddie Ware (1864 1941), Elenora Lampkin (1836 1915), and Amanda Boyd (1833 1918).
Both Eddie and Elenora s epitaphs are Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. This comes
from Revelations 14:13. The epitaph on Amanda s grave is And so shall we ever be with the

So, the pros and cons of technology in our generation.
It is pretty easy to make a list for both, but a bit easier to make a list for the pros, so we will do that.
The first and most important things brought to us by technology is the communication.
Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able
to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow
us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. In my
eyes Youtube is also a source of communication, because it allows us to look things up, like how to

Virtual bullying is becoming a very big concern for people our age, being the first area to have
too much technology to back up our good times, and bad time. We tend to struggle through
emotional stress a lot more than past generations, so a simple message is able to tare some of us
down really easily.
Video games. Now this one is completely my opinion, and i m not interested in starting an
arguement, but the pros and cons for this one, in my eyes are simply put.
Pros When it comes to video games I personally go to them to blow off steam. Now I see this as a
great pro, because when some child or even adults just want to hit something games can pull them
back from doing something stupid. They may just go home play some GTA, putting their anger into
a game, so that no one actually gets harmed.
Cons The con for gaming is, in my eyes, just the fact that they can tend to distract from other real
life things. When you got homework, but you have just one more; you can fill in the blank.
Games are great and all but even I m guilty of this one. I d much rather play my Ps4 than get that

Sound and smell crowded Julios mind, pure ecstasy mixed with the over stimulation of thumping
music and free flowing drugs pushed his pupils wide and his pores open, his brow furrowed and
his mouth clenched into a dumb grin. With each bass filled kick of the music and flash of the cyan

What was once a table or a dancing woman became a infinite projection of colors and sounds,

The Start Of A Great Adventure Essay
The start of a great adventure, begins with the idea of becoming more then yourself. The first
time I started thinking about what career I wanted was in third grade as a kid. Are teachers just
simple asked us who do you want to be when you grow up? I was probing my mind for this
answer, but couldn t not found the answer. I said the basic thing every kid would say I would
like to be a veterinarian. I figured that would be good career because I loved animals and it doesn
t pay to bad. My mind kept that question till I found an answer that made sense in what I want to
be. The start is always a difficult thing to do in founding out what you really want to be. I know
what I wanted as much as anybody. I wanted a house, a wife, and kids living in a nice place that
my kids will be able to grow and love. I also wanted to be a nutritionist, engineer, architect, sports
medicine, and something related to sports. As I was comparing the many majors and how I am I
noticed a pattern. I like the idea of creating things, helping others, and hands on activities. That is
the reason I went with physical therapybecause it is close to sports, hands on, and helping others.
When choosing my major, I couldn t just apply for the program. I had to have a undergraduate
degree before hand. The reason being is that it is a Doctorate degree and I have to complete certain
requirements to apply for it before I actually can do it. It really doesn t matter what major I go for

The Poetry of W.B. Yeats Essay examples
W.B. Yeats, a key figure of the modernist movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, was born in Dublin in 1865. Although spending much of his childhood and youth in
London, Yeats is seen as an inherently Irish literary figure. Through his early work, employing not
only ancient Greek myth, but also Celtic legend, he sought to re ignite in Irelandnotions of heritage
and tradition, which had diminished through the years. In Ireland, from around 1890 onwards, there
was a very noticeable return to all things Irish, including a re introduction of the Gaelic language,
through the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language, and the formation of a highly
nationalist community in Ireland. Alongside these practical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yeats descriptions of nature often involve specific places, mostly in Ireland. In The Stolen Child
, first published in 1886, he describes a place in Sligo called Sleuth Wood. In this work, he
attempts to create a sense of the wonder of nature, the ancient and ageless mystical world of
myth and legend. Yeats tend[s] to support the idea of a connection between the idea of first,
consciousness and the outer world and second, nature and the spiritual world. Instead of
concentrating on the physical beauty of the area, he creates a world around it, where faeries
[weave] olden dances (line 17) and hid[e] faery vats, / Full of berries/And of reddest stolen
cherries (line 6 8). The poet creates an intoxicating nocturnal world, filled with wonder and
spirituality. It seems like a secret world, where a community of fabled creatures spend their time.
There is a sense of peace and joy about this place, which the anxious world, full of troubles could
not hope to enjoy.
The poem has a musical tone, which is particularly evident in the refrain at the end of each stanza:
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world is more full of weeping than you can understand.
This musical tone brings the words to life, evoking a sense of ethereality in the Gaelic effects of
rhythm...so delicate that it seems to come from the rise and fall of intonation in the Irish voice. The

Burning Marshmallow
If 10.0g of solid baking soda is poured into 30 mL of citric acid, then a reaction will occur and an
increase in temperature will be observed. Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30
mL of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be
observable. For Part 3 of the experiment, if 50 mL of tap water is placed in a can 2.5 cm inches
above a burning marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energycontent of the
marshmallow should be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of
Agriculture). Reactions that give off heatas a product are known as exothermicreactions, whereas
reactions that absorb heat are known as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an
exothermic reaction would be condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an
endothermic reaction would be melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions
are studied to better understand the properties and future potential of substances. For example,
recent studies prove that the addition of endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances
effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi,
2008). This is important because determining what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can
better improve techniques to prevent disasters such as a fire. If an unknown substance is
exothermic, in terms of fire combustibility, adding it to a fire would

INTRODUCTION
The type of Gear in this unit is a Worm Gear which comprises of a worm and Worm wheel
A Worm Gear is a type of gear with a mechanical arrangement which has a toothed wheel worked
by a short revolving cylinder called a worm bearing a screw thread. The gear consists of a shaft
with a spiral thread that engages with and drives a toothed wheel
Profile of the Gear: A worm and its mating worm gear operate or transmit motion and power
between non intersecting shafts that are at 90o to each other. A large speed reduction ratio
compared to other types of gears is typically achieved. The worm is the driver, and the worm gear
is the driven gear. The teeth on the worm appear similar to screw threads, and are referred to as
threads rather than teeth.
The gear drive has a worm on the high speed shaft which has the general appearance of a power
screw thread such as a cylindrical, helical thread.
Worms and worm gears can be provided with either right hand or left hand threads on the worm.
Gears that also have a helix angle can be either right hand or left hand.

The World Of Baseball Player For The St. Louis Cardinals...
Curt Flood was an All Star baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals that did not want to be

this particular statement ultimately started a battle for player liberty and benefits in baseball. This
paper will be diving into the ideals and ramifications behind his choice to dispute the sport of
baseball, the context of American society around the time of the issue and its relationship, the
main events involving Flood s actions, the labor dispute, Flood v. Kuhn case along with other
critical elements in the main body, the progression of this topic in discussion, and a recap of the
topic and its significance in relation to contemporary American society in conclusion. This topic
represents a time in which athletes, in this case baseball players, did not have a free choice when
it came to having the liberty of deciding where they would like to play. The main concepts that
will be described within this paper will include the reserve clause, Flood v. Kuhn case, MLBPA,
lockouts, or strikes, and free agency. The reserve clause sought to restrict a player s freedom to
move into a contract with another team. Flood v. Kuhn was the huge case where Flood went
against the power of baseball s commissioner and took the case up to the Supreme Court. The
MLBPA is important because it is the players union for when they need to come together as one to
respond to a case such as Flood v. Kuhn. A

Important Facts About Professional Manicures
Most of us think of the local nail salon as a place to pamper ourselves in luxury and relax for
thirty minutes to an hour. The nail salon is glamorous and seduces women with the glitz, polish,
sparkle, and glow into their doors. However, danger lurks in quite a few of those nail salons. The
surprising fact is that nail salons are hotbeds of germs, filled with unsanitary conditions that might
affect your health and well being. Here are a few tips to keep in mind, on your next visit to the nail
salon.

Instead, speak up. An open line of communication between the nail technician and customer is vital
to receiving the type of service that is desires. Make sure that the technician understands your
desires and requirements. For example, sanitary tools and clean conditions. Keeping quiet leads to
miscommunication and the chance for catching germs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Request Information About Sanitary Conditions
Don t hesitate to ask your technician about the sanitary conditions in the salon. Ask about the
techniques used to sanitize their instruments. For example, do they use disinfectants or a heated
device to sterilize tools and kill germs. If they refuse, get up and leave the salon. A salon that
refuses to discuss their sanitation methods is hiding something.
3. Are They Wearing Gloves
Did you know that the majority of nail technicians do not wear gloves? It s quite true. A salon that
takes time to make sure the technicians wear gloves, rates high on cleanliness. Gloves reduce the
transfer of germs.

Good And Evil In Gregory Maguire s Wicked
Anger and evil are main emotion that are portrayed in the book Wicked. These emotions are
clear in Gregory Maguire s famous novel, Wicked, which was published in 1995 and takes place in
the Land of Oz. This novel is one of Maguire s bestselling books and in 2003 they decided to turn it

in the book there are many things that tie together the two books. Wicked is supposed to be a

Elphaba because Glinda brings the evil out in Elphaba and that is not a good thing because she
makes her feel poorly of herself and no one wants to feel that way. Elphaba also becomes very
jealous of Glinda and that is a start to another conflict between the two of them. Then end up
turning against each other and they are enemies. Good vs. Evil would be another popular theme
in the book and it can go along with the first one pretty well because it s about the same
characters. The good witch brings out the evil in the wicked witch. Now when you really think
about this theme you have to realize that this whole book basically says everyone is evil. But
you have to purposely want to be evil you can t just accidentally do that. When it comes to
goodness you have to practice that over time it doesn t just come naturally. If Elphaba actually

other way around and that is fine but by the end of the book she wasn t alive. No one could put up
with how she treated others and people could see that she wasn t going to change no matter if they
thought she would. The book Wicked presents many different themes but the ones that I pulled out

The biggest challenge that they face as a company is they do not have the room the increase

retailers (1,650,000), consumer advertising (562,000) and trade promotion (467,000). adding the
$225,000 increase in consumer advertising will not allow the 5% of expected sales for total
promo expenditures. John Bott, the vice president of sales disagreed with the budget allocation
and noted that sales expenses and administration cost were projected to be $65,000 in 2008. This
led him to believe that an additional sales representative would be needed to service company

$70,000 including salary and expenses in 2008. Bott also stated that That s about $135,000 in

My recommendation is that they do not invest the additional $225,000 in consumer advertising.

HOW AFRICAN AMERICAN SEGREGATION INFLUENCED SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN
FOLK MUSIC DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION
John Hilderbrand
History 255: Race, Rock and Roll, and American History
April 29, 2016
Introduction Folk music was shaped and influenced by segregation during the Great Depression
between blacks and whites, which led to divergent forms of African American folk music in
isolated towns where black music could evolve from its African origins. Even before the Great
Depression, earlier African Americanmusic styles have influenced the folk music of southern
Appalachia. The banjo is one of the most important musical instruments playing in Appalachia folk
music, and it is a little known fact that this instrument was introduced by African Americans, as
well as African work songs and chants to this region.1 This paper will address how segregation

Some African Americans families settled in small towns which became predominantly black and
poor. This occurred throughout Appalachia, where blacks and whites tended to live in separate
towns. When black folk bands traveled to different festivals, they interacted with white folk
artists and exchanged musical methods weather they knew it or not. Some of the songs from
African American folk artist were adopted by white banjo players as early as 1830s such as Dan
Emmett and Billy Whitlock, who were part of a traveling minstrel show in Virginia according to
historian George Gibson7. George suggests that the blending of white and black music took place
well before the minstrel performers during the 1840s7. Which would allow for white folk artists to
use their influence popularizing song material that would have not gained much notice if it was
kept within the confines of the black folklore and

may make the other person feel persuaded that they should not do as asked. Complaining to the
right person, and how to complain to them is also important insights. Complaining to a manager is

Thirdly, explain what exactly is expected to be done i.e. any repairs, replacements, or refunds.
Ultimately, always add a postscript at the end, stating again what is expected to be changed with
the problem, and if the problem is not solved, what actions will be taken against them. The
information obtained from the story is very reliable since the author s career is solely to teach
people how to protect themselves against poor quality consumer affairs, inefficiency, and dealing
with dangerous products. Caroline s story does not give opinions on the things that she states, in
fact, she presents all the facts on how to be better at complaining that anyone could see it as
useful, opinionated or not. The story is very different from the other two in the sense that it is
objective. While What Are Friends For? is biased, it has arguments from both sides on good and
bad friends. What Shamu Taught Me About a Happy Marriage is definitely biased for the fact that
the writer gives no examples or even any enlightenment in how the training of her husband through
techniques for animals may be a bad

The Tyger Poem Analysis
This poem dramatizes the conflict between the divine perspective and the speaker s terrified
human and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of
divine figure to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation
in general and how we think we see the whole story. William Blakewrote this piece in the voice of
a witness that watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness
describes to the audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their
eyes to see the bigger picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter
where the author purposely changes the last line of each stanzain order to make that specific line
stand out the most for the audience to notice. The Tygeris composed of six stanzas, each containing
four lines, and is written with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as
interrogative sentences as Blake asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas
are almost identical, with the exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the
end forces the reader to reevaluate these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author
uses words such as fearful, dread, and deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is
a beast capable of destruction. The first 2 lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger,
Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the
mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which is an example of alliteration. This piece
may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery orange fur, or it may on a deeper
analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger possesses. The Tyger s presence
in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power of the creature it s
mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The speaker uses the
symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. William Blake is
building on the idea that nature, like a work of art, can in some way contain a reflection of its

Mueller Reasoning
Heaven is According to Mueller images of joy that lie before us, but words can t fully embrace
the joys of heaven. No eyes has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has
prepared for those who love him these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit (1
Corinthians 2:9 10)
Therefore, based on Mueller reasoning in order for a person to get into heaven has to receive God s
grace. Though God desires the salvation of all human beings but he has done all the necessary for
our salvation in Jesus Christ. Furthermore, we will have to be immortal and free of temptation, sin,
disease, death, and all the other effects of sin. Our current lives are so affected by sinfulness that
we may find it hard to comprehend the difference

Odyssey Epic Comparison
Aaron G McCaffity

World Lit 207.002
2 December, 14 Contrasting 2 epics. During the fall semester of 2014, the world literature course
that I enrolled in examined three epics that from first glance, seemingly have nothing in common,
but the mere fact that they are all epics automatically dismisses the notion that the books
completely incomparable, and encourages a deeper examination of the aspects offered from the
stories told. The first epic read to be discussed in the essay is The Odyssey an epic of the western
world written and told by the blind poet Homer, who lived in the 8th century Greece, which he
tells the story of a Odysseus, the king of Ithaca and a great Greek warrior that has successfully
led an army to the succession of winning the Trojan war but has a hard time returning home due
to the wrath of the God s who turn his journey home into an obstacle course involving a series of
mythical creatures and monsters. The editor of Sundiata, D.T Niane, is simply a recorder of
events, as he traveled to Africa and published what he was told of this epic, from the account of a
griot through the form of traditional oratory expression. The considered author as mentioned by the

A Community Mental Health Team While Working With A Client...
Introduction
This literature review and research proposal was motivated following a practice placement with a
Community Mental Health Team while working with a client with Generalised Anxiety Disorder
(GAD). GAD is a long term condition that causes someone to feel anxious about a wide range of
situations and issues, rather than one specific event. GAD is a common mental health condition
affecting 1 in every 25 people in the United Kingdom, its prevalence is slightly more among
women than men and individuals between the ages of 35 and 55 (NHSChoices, 2014). People
with GAD feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed
(NHSChoices, 2014). Feeling anxious is a normal response to stressful experiences, however when
anxiety is prolonged, inappropriate, and/or overwhelming to the point that it impacts on
functioning, it becomes a pathological disorder (Davis, 2011). The anxiety, worry, or physical
symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas
of functioning (APA, 2000). Studies have shown that GAD is more impairing than other anxiety
disorders (Hoffmann et al., 2009); and people afflicted with GAD have reported significantly less
satisfaction with their quality of life in particular in the domains of self esteem, goals and values,
money, work, play, learning, creativity, friends and family (Henning et al., 2007). Thus GAD has a
disabling impact on an individual s occupation performance

How Is Atticus Finch Courageous
Courage is an interesting word. Courage can be a feeling or an act. In the novel To Kill a
Mockibngbird the characters Mrs Dubose, Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch all demonstrate
what true courage really is. The first character I will discuss is Mrs Dubose. Mrs Dubose is a very
old woman battling an illness and a morphine addiction. Secondly, I will discuss Tom Robinson.
Tom is a black man who is (falsely) accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. Finally I will explain why
Atticus Finchis courageous. Atticus is the father of the novels narrator Scout or Jean Louise Finch.
All three characters demonstrate great bravery throughout the novel, each have their hardships and
each try to push through the adversity to their best ability.
To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a reader, I found Atticus to be the most courageous character in the novel. The reasons behind
this statement are that Atticus defends a black man in court, he stands up to the lynch mob in
front of the jailhouse and because he can fight without words. First, Atticus is very valorous for
taking the Tom Robinson case. For a white man to be acquainted with a black man who was not
his slave was rather sporadic. Even after all of the physical and verbal abuse Atticus took he kept
his word and defended Tom for all he was worth. I can t stay here all day and this summer is
going to be a hot one. (Atticus, Page 128) As a reader, this was the greatest act of courage
executed in the novel. For Atticus to risk his respect, family and life to protect a black man took
great bravery and sacrifice. Secondly, Atticus protected Tom from he lynch mob at the jailhouse.
As the men poured out of the car towards Atticus, he was undaunted buy the moving shadows
approaching him. In ones and twos, men got out of the cars. Shadows became substance as lights
revealed solid shapes moving toward the jail door. Atticus remained where he was. (Scout, Page
152 153) Atticus fearlessly confronted the mass of angry men and reasoned with them until there is
an interruption courtesy of Scout. This event proves that Atticus is very brave because he came up
against a whole mob and did not back down. Finally, Atticus is

Orientalism As The Populatio In Pepe Le Moko
According to a paper by Buchowski, Orientalism was originally defined by Edward Said as a set of
discursive practices through which the West structured the imagined East politically, socially,
military, ideologically, scientifically and artistically. (Buchowski abstract) In film Orientalism most
commonly refers to offensively portraying characteristics, customs or qualities of people in the
Orient, an imagined name for the countries in Asia and North Africa. In academic discourse,
Orientalismis a tool used to enforce Eurocentrism, the belief that Western society is the center of the
world. (Shohat and Stam 2) Edward Said claimed that the European representation of these people
is a typical cultural creation that enables those powerful to legitimize their domination over those
subjugated and conquered. (Buchowski abstract)

If the Other is primitive, as the film suggests, and association with the Other causes the Westerner
to become part of the local culture, the Westerner must escape to preserve his identity. Pepe s
suicide was one method of escaping said cultural dissolution, the tainting of his white heritage
through association with the Other. Pepe s extended exposure to Oriental culture justifies his
escape. To maintain that the West is culturally superior to the East, as Orientalism seeks to do,
Pepe must prove that he can conquer the allure of the Arab Casbah. Instead of hiding amongst the
natives and seeking protection from the law, Pepe flees to the port, where he attempts to meet with
Gaby. When his rendezvous fails, and Pepe is brought into custody, his suicide signifies freedom

Civic Engagement Initiative
The Civic Engagement Initiative
The focal point of current educational trend in the United States is on preparing the leaders of
tomorrow (National Task Force, 2012). Student success has been expanded to include civic
responsibility which is a dimension of the college experience largely ignored until recently (Upcraft,
Gardner, Barefoot, 2005). The Department of Education has taken this charge and developed the
National Task Force for Democratic and Civic Engagement. This initiative places developing civic
responsibility as a national priority based on the tendency of young people who are often too
caught up in narrow collegiate worlds of their own existence to understand the larger role of being a
contributing member of society (Upcraft, Barefoot Gardner, 2005). Thus, engagement as a
participating citizen living in community is frequently beyond the scope of young student leaders in
college. Due to this, the government has renewed its interest in creating civic minded young people
prepared to advocate for change. This has led the charge for a civic engagement initiative
nationwide.
With civic engagement development being initiated nationwide, we must attempt to understand
citizenship in today s world. Citizenship is often a misunderstood concept. ... Show more content on

Charles Quiqly, Executive Director for the Center for Civic Education, has dubbed the current
status of the United States to be in a civic recession . This recession is in response to a lack of not
monetary capital but of engaged democratic participants. David Mathews, president of the Kettering
Foundation, also coined the paradoxical phrase, a citizenless democracy (National Task Force,
2012). In a time where the United States ranks 139th out of the 172 world democracies in voter
participation, the U.S. needs to reinvent the engaged, contributing citizen within society

In 1995, after six years as a personal injury lawyer, and three years as a golf professional, this

This approach to risk assessment is amplified by Joseph and Dianne Devanney (2002),
It is not enough to just design pleasant and attractive surroundings. In developing the necessary
proactive protections against lawsuits, everyone has to be as diUgent as possible and try to
foresee how the design could lead to accidents. Other articles also recommend that course owners
put out highly visible signs in areas where golf cart users must, cross public roadways or make
slow turns, etc. Make sure you have great signage and poUce it, he says. If you see someone
violating that rule, stop them and get them out of the cart.
The attorneys dted also mentioned incidences where golf carts have been struck by automobiles
with the parties being severely injured. Such situations can create catastrophic liability exposures
for a golf course. If they have golf cart paths that cross public roadways, they really need to be well
marked rumble sticks, stop signs. Golf clubs really need to do a good job making that a more
defensible situation.
Safety measure implementation and recent areas of injury
In implementing safety measures regarding car paths, it is best to insure they are properly
designed, and constructed using materials that will last based given anticipated climate conditions.

reviewer 3 s comments Reviewer 3 asked about the implications of using organizational sector as
the grouping variable for brokerage roles, rather than organization. They correctly pointed out that
we were not consistent in our use of language through the text, at times using language that implied
within organization brokerage. We responded to this in three ways. First, we directly acknowledge

Findings, we added an explicit acknowledgement of our selection of the four brokers. We chose
them to make the presentation of our results clearer and easier to follow, and because their
interaction maps were clear and reflective of the broader patterns in the data. Other brokers had
too many or too few ties to make clear, readable maps that illustrate our findings. Reviewer 1 also
requested additional qualitative quotes, which we added on pages 30 and 33. Reviewer 3
suggested that we include a non technical description of the model s fit to the data and the

  • 2. The King Of Marcus Aurelius The son of Marcus Aurelius, Commodus Antoninus, came to power in the wake of his father s death in March of 180 CE. From the death of Marcus Aurelius came the end to the Five Good Emperors. Commodus reign lasted from 180 to 192 CE and he described it as a golden age. (cite) However, this was far from the truth. Commodussuccumbed to the lure of self indulgence and become a megalomaniac. Along with those two flaws, he also held deep antagonism against the Senate. (cite) Arguably, the two most important aspects of his reign was: his identification with the demigod Hercules and his participation in gladiatorial games. Commodus thought himself as a reborn Hercules, he appeared in public places donned in a lion hide cloak. It was a reference to the Nemean Lion that Hercules fought in his twelve labors.(cite) And even in the arena, a horror to the senate but possibly to the delight of the plebs, he wore this fighting. But there was a belief held strongly by the elite that Roman Emperors were not supposed to do this. But his love for the games was so immense he partook in them regardless of their beliefs. Commodus participated in the gladiatorial games for his own self indulgence and fantasies about being Hercules. To Roman elite, seeing the Emperor do this was appalling because gladiators were not supposed to be high class; they were slaves or prisoners, and this is reason the Roman elite disliked his behavior. Senators were forced to witness a number of these games. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many of these examples are real life examples from people around the US. Phillips then goes on to her next section called Background which she explains in a different way than her overview. The struggle to adapt to change makes a strong presence in both Alice in Lena Coakley s Mirror Image, and Barry, from W.D. Valgardson s Saturday Climbing. Alice is the protagonist in Mirror Image and the author illustrates the struggle of self acceptance she faces after having a brain transplant. Barry is the protagonist of Saturday Climbing and he tries to cope with the fact that his daughter is not a child anymore and seeks independence. However, Alice is the centre of attention for the media because she is the first person with a successful brain transplant, whereas Barry can be a used in the media as a representation of the conflicts a father faces in a typical father daughter relationship. Barry has trust issues with his daughter, ever since she came home with the sweet sour smell of marijuana clung to her (Coakley 23). Similarly, Alice s twin sister, Jenny, has trouble trusting Alice when she wants to read her diary. Jenny denies her and replies that she [has] to get to know [her] better (Coakley 2), enforcing that she does not trust her. Despite these similarities, they have many differences in their struggles with the people around them. Alice has family issues where her mother and twin sister have trouble accepting Alice in her new body; it is jarring for them. Jenny is the most critical in her family, as she feels as if [Alice] is dead (Coakley 6). This shows that she thinks the Alice she knew is dead, even though Alice tries to prove that she is still alive. Despite Jenny feeling this way, Alice s mother also feels uneasy and uncomfortable around her. Alice observes that her mother may think that she is not the same daughter she knew before (Coakley 6), and that she tries to avoid any eye contact with her. Another difference between Barry and Alice is that, Alice has a struggle with society and the donor s family. People in her community have trouble recognizing her and they mistake her for Gail, Alice s donor. The Jarreds, Gail s family, also have a grudge against Alice; Mrs. Jarred feels helpless and desperate that she cannot see her supposed daughter. • 5. Satire In Northanger Abbey Satire is a literary device used by writers typically to critique society or an individual. It can be done a variety of ways, including humor, irony, and ridicule. An example of a writer using satire to critique society would be Jane Austen s Northanger Abbey. Using a variety of techniques, Austen criticizes how society viewed novels and the people who write them by parodying common tropes in novels. Most novels just want to pull the reader in, and make them forget that they are reading a novel, but Austen does not allow this. The very first line in Northanger Abbey is No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be a heroine (1). By pointing out that the main character is supposed to be the heroine, Austen draws attention to the fact that this is a novel. However, while Catherine is in fact a heroine, it is also states from the beginning that she does not match the expectations of the average heroine. So right from the beginning, the reader knows that while this is a novel, it is not going to be a typical one. It is in fact, going to parodying and critiquing some common aspects of novels. Austen continues on, and not so subtly points out the ways that Catherine differs from the heroines normally found in novels. For Catherine s ...situation in life, the character of her father and mother, her own person and disposition were all equally against her (Austen 1). She was fairly normal and did not have any of the commonly used characteristics of heroines working in her favor, despite being a heroine herself. Austen writes Catherine this was to parody the way women are written in novels. There normally has to be some catalyst that makes the heroine special, different than the average women. However, Catherine wasn t incredibly poor, had two well tempered parents, and preferred other hobbies ...to the more heroic enjoyments... (Austen 1) that heroines were normally fond of. By completely disregarding the characteristics normally attributed to heroines, Austen creates a character that would not fit into the normal novel. She essentially gives Catherine the character of someone who is almost the antithesis of what a heroine normally is, and by doing this critiques the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The surface of Ceres is covered in countless small, young craters (Davis, n.d.). Within some of Ceres craters, there are regions that are always in shadow. Still another reason why fewer children are available for adoption is the legalization of abortion. While these are not all necessarily negative reasons, they still are a discouragement to families desiring a child. Because there are so few children placed for adoption, the current waiting list is seven years or more (Fulton 2). International adoptions, however, can take as little as four months (Jeffreys 9), and at most one year (Fulton 2). Also, the adoption process itself is much simpler when dealing internationally. There are fewer restrictive eligibility requirements consisting of a home study by a social worker, police records clearing the perspective parents of past wrong doing, financial statements, a marriage certificate, proof of citizenship, medical histories, and reference letters (Fulton 3). • 20. Characteristics Of Jurassic Park Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton demonstrated many dinosaur characteristics and behaviors. The dinosaurs were fictionally characterized to appeal to the readers. By examining the dinosaur s appearance and behaviors of dinosaurs such as the duckbilled dinosaur, velociraptor, hypsilophodontids, dilophosaurs, Triceratops, apatosaurs, Tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurs, and maiasaurs distinguished whether the evidence existed in the field of paleontology. The behaviors and characteristics of the dinosaurare divided into three factors as behaviors that were supported, not supported, and no evidence to support or refute the behavior. First, Crichton noted that duckbilled dinosaurs were herbivores which are supported by a trace fossil found in the coal beds of the western North America that indicated footprints with plant fossils (Martin 2006). Furthermore, duckbilled dinosaurs lived in a vegetated environment that they had to consume enough food relative to their body size. Duckbilled dinosaurs had lengthened their skull and smoothed snout to obtain and process more food. The Dilophosaurus was described as two curved crests that extended from the eyes to the nose. The crest created a V shape on the head with red and black stripes on the crests (Crichton, 1990). To some, evil is the most appalling sins, including such heinous acts such as murder, rape, distortion, or betrayal. To others, evil might be something so simple as indecisiveness, extravagance, or vain glory. Goodness is ambiguous to mankind as well because one man might define goodness as the ordinary man living a free life, yet another might conclude that true goodness is obtainable only through a perfect, honorable lifestyle, completely abstaining from worldly endeavors. One s attitude at good and evilwill predetermine their values, actions, and points of interest. Whether life is spent pursuing heavenly goals or the applying oneself to his or her life, their... Born in 1265, Dante s Florence was the center of a war ravaged Italy. He became involved in politics at a young age and before too long became a White Guelph, one who supported the Papacy in the fight against invading Germanic kings. 1301 was a tragic year because it marked the beginning of the Black Guelph regime and saw Dante exiled from his home town forever. These experiences made Dante quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for material things is the main fault, greed which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a cessation of strife, the establishment of universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind and allow men to pursue the ultimate aim for which God has destined them on earth, that of exercising constantly and to the full their distinctive quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous intellect) (Limentani,117). He believed that all life on this earth has a purpose and meaning to it. This can be seen in the Inferno because during the long trek through Hell Dante does almost nothing but work to arrive a Paradise, the heavenly end to all those lacking wickedness. He traveled far trying to make his life purposeful by working his way up to Heaven. Chaucer stood in contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looked to other things as having ... Pros We are a pretty social bunch, and with phones, social media and by other means we are able to contact people from long distances for no reason at all, and with no effort. These things allow us to stay in contact with family, and even long distance relationships, as if they ever work. Although spending much of his childhood and youth in London, Yeats is seen as an inherently Irish literary figure. Through his early work, employing not only ancient Greek myth, but also Celtic legend, he sought to re ignite in Irelandnotions of heritage and tradition, which had diminished through the years. In Ireland, from around 1890 onwards, there was a very noticeable return to all things Irish, including a re introduction of the Gaelic language, through the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language, and the formation of a highly nationalist community in Ireland. In The Stolen Child , first published in 1886, he describes a place in Sligo called Sleuth Wood. In this work, he attempts to create a sense of the wonder of nature, the ancient and ageless mystical world of myth and legend. Yeats tend[s] to support the idea of a connection between the idea of first, consciousness and the outer world and second, nature and the spiritual world. Instead of concentrating on the physical beauty of the area, he creates a world around it, where faeries [weave] olden dances (line 17) and hid[e] faery vats, / Full of berries/And of reddest stolen cherries (line 6 8). The poet creates an intoxicating nocturnal world, filled with wonder and spirituality. It seems like a secret world, where a community of fabled creatures spend their time. The poem has a musical tone, which is particularly evident in the refrain at the end of each stanza: Come away, O human child! Whereas, if a piece of magnesium metal is added to 30 mL of Hydrochloric Acid, then a reaction will occur and an increase in temperature will be observable. For Part 3 of the experiment, if 50 mL of tap water is placed in a can 2.5 cm inches above a burning marshmallow, then through the process of calorimetry the energycontent of the marshmallow should be 5.0kJ/g (the value provided by the United States Department of Agriculture). Reactions that give off heatas a product are known as exothermicreactions, whereas reactions that absorb heat are known as endothermic reactions (Van Hecke, 1999). An example of an exothermic reaction would be condensation, in which water loses energy, and an example of an endothermic reaction would be melting, in which water gains energy. These two types of reactions are studied to better understand the properties and future potential of substances. For example, recent studies prove that the addition of endothermic chemicals in fire retardant substances effectively stops fires by rapidly cooling the temperature and preventing and re ignition (Tripathi, 2008). This is important because determining what reactions are endothermic or exothermic can better improve techniques to prevent disasters such as a fire. • 41. The Tyger Poem Analysis This poem dramatizes the conflict between the divine perspective and the speaker s terrified human and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of divine figure to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation in general and how we think we see the whole story. William Blakewrote this piece in the voice of a witness that watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness describes to the audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their eyes to see the bigger picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter where the author purposely changes the last line of each stanzain order to make that specific line stand out the most for the audience to notice. The Tygeris composed of six stanzas, each containing four lines, and is written with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as interrogative sentences as Blake asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas are almost identical, with the exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the end forces the reader to reevaluate these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author uses words such as fearful, dread, and deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is a beast capable of destruction. The first 2 lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger, Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which is an example of alliteration. This piece may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery orange fur, or it may on a deeper analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger possesses. The Tyger s presence in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power of the creature it s mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The speaker uses the symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. William Blake is building on the idea that nature, like a work of art, can in some way contain a reflection of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Odyssey Epic Comparison Aaron G McCaffity Dr. Sidney Krome World Lit 207.002 2 December, 14 Contrasting 2 epics. During the fall semester of 2014, the world literature course that I enrolled in examined three epics that from first glance, seemingly have nothing in common, but the mere fact that they are all epics automatically dismisses the notion that the books completely incomparable, and encourages a deeper examination of the aspects offered from the stories told. The first epic read to be discussed in the essay is The Odyssey an epic of the western world written and told by the blind poet Homer, who lived in the 8th century Greece, which he tells the story of a Odysseus, the king of Ithaca and a great Greek warrior that has successfully led an army to the succession of winning the Trojan war but has a hard time returning home due to the wrath of the God s who turn his journey home into an obstacle course involving a series of mythical creatures and monsters. • 44. A Community Mental Health Team While Working With A Client... Introduction This literature review and research proposal was motivated following a practice placement with a Community Mental Health Team while working with a client with Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). GAD is a long term condition that causes someone to feel anxious about a wide range of situations and issues, rather than one specific event. GAD is a common mental health condition affecting 1 in every 25 people in the United Kingdom, its prevalence is slightly more among women than men and individuals between the ages of 35 and 55 (NHSChoices, 2014). People with GAD feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed (NHSChoices, 2014). Feeling anxious is a normal response to stressful experiences, however when anxiety is prolonged, inappropriate, and/or overwhelming to the point that it impacts on functioning, it becomes a pathological disorder (Davis, 2011). The anxiety, worry, or physical symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning (APA, 2000). Studies have shown that GAD is more impairing than other anxiety disorders (Hoffmann et al., 2009); and people afflicted with GAD have reported significantly less satisfaction with their quality of life in particular in the domains of self esteem, goals and values, money, work, play, learning, creativity, friends and family (Henning et al., 2007). Thus GAD has a disabling impact on an individual s occupation performance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Is Atticus Finch Courageous Courage is an interesting word. Courage can be a feeling or an act. In the novel To Kill a Mockibngbird the characters Mrs Dubose, Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch all demonstrate what true courage really is. The first character I will discuss is Mrs Dubose. Mrs Dubose is a very old woman battling an illness and a morphine addiction. Secondly, I will discuss Tom Robinson. Tom is a black man who is (falsely) accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. Finally I will explain why Atticus Finchis courageous. Atticus is the father of the novels narrator Scout or Jean Louise Finch. All three characters demonstrate great bravery throughout the novel, each have their hardships and each try to push through the adversity to their best ability. To begin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a reader, I found Atticus to be the most courageous character in the novel. The reasons behind this statement are that Atticus defends a black man in court, he stands up to the lynch mob in front of the jailhouse and because he can fight without words. First, Atticus is very valorous for taking the Tom Robinson case. For a white man to be acquainted with a black man who was not his slave was rather sporadic. Even after all of the physical and verbal abuse Atticus took he kept his word and defended Tom for all he was worth. I can t stay here all day and this summer is going to be a hot one. (Atticus, Page 128) As a reader, this was the greatest act of courage executed in the novel. For Atticus to risk his respect, family and life to protect a black man took great bravery and sacrifice. Secondly, Atticus protected Tom from he lynch mob at the jailhouse. As the men poured out of the car towards Atticus, he was undaunted buy the moving shadows approaching him. In ones and twos, men got out of the cars. Shadows became substance as lights revealed solid shapes moving toward the jail door. Atticus remained where he was. (Scout, Page 152 153) Atticus fearlessly confronted the mass of angry men and reasoned with them until there is an interruption courtesy of Scout. This event proves that Atticus is very brave because he came up against a whole mob and did not back down. Finally, Atticus is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Orientalism As The Populatio In Pepe Le Moko According to a paper by Buchowski, Orientalism was originally defined by Edward Said as a set of discursive practices through which the West structured the imagined East politically, socially, military, ideologically, scientifically and artistically. • 47. Civic Engagement Initiative The Civic Engagement Initiative The focal point of current educational trend in the United States is on preparing the leaders of tomorrow (National Task Force, 2012). Student success has been expanded to include civic responsibility which is a dimension of the college experience largely ignored until recently (Upcraft, Gardner, Barefoot, 2005). The Department of Education has taken this charge and developed the National Task Force for Democratic and Civic Engagement. This initiative places developing civic responsibility as a national priority based on the tendency of young people who are often too caught up in narrow collegiate worlds of their own existence to understand the larger role of being a contributing member of society (Upcraft, Barefoot Gardner, 2005). Thus, engagement as a participating citizen living in community is frequently beyond the scope of young student leaders in college. Due to this, the government has renewed its interest in creating civic minded young people prepared to advocate for change. This has led the charge for a civic engagement initiative nationwide. With civic engagement development being initiated nationwide, we must attempt to understand citizenship in today s world. Citizenship is often a misunderstood concept. ... We followed most of the recommendations, adding a table of our key constructs, defining them and giving examples. There were more substantive revisions we made based on reviewer 3 s comments Reviewer 3 asked about the implications of using organizational sector as the grouping variable for brokerage roles, rather than organization. They correctly pointed out that we were not consistent in our use of language through the text, at times using language that implied within organization brokerage. We responded to this in three ways. Starting on page 25, when we introduce the brokers identified by our test, we select a few to illustrate the range of work these providers engaged in. Reviewer 1 also questioned our choice of the four brokers we selected for the illustrative interaction maps. In the section titled Activating and influencing social capital of our Findings, we added an explicit acknowledgement of our selection of the four brokers. We chose them to make the presentation of our results clearer and easier to follow, and because their interaction maps were clear and reflective of the broader patterns in the data. Other brokers had too many or too few ties to make clear, readable maps that illustrate our findings. Reviewer 1 also requested additional qualitative quotes, which we added on pages 30 and 33. Reviewer 3 suggested that we include a non technical description of the model s fit to the data and the parameter estimates. We included the former, but after careful consideration, we decided against include including the latter. We made this decision for two reasons. First, we felt that introducing and describing the model coefficients would be distracting from the main results of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
