- The company that I choose to work with is a non-profit organization in Pinellas County that serves families who have individuals (either parents or children) who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Families who come to Family Center on Deafness are usually uneducated in behaviors unique to children and individuals who are Deaf, resources available to parents with children who are Deaf, education alternatives, and family psychological support services.
- To build relationships, the agency needs to build trust with the families. This will involve the key staff member meeting families first at an informal event. Next forming a focus group that is representative of each developmental stage will offer insight to the issues that parents need or are seeking guidance/assistance with. Fun sessions will allow families to participate in activities that will strengthen their relationships within the family dynamic while allowing the staff insight to challenges unique to that family. Informative meetings hosted by the agency can offer expert speakers with professional guidance in areas such as divergent behaviors, educational options, advocacy for accommodations, etc. Selling strategies must be adaptive according to the families needs and requests as well as possible partnering with other agencies offering targeted services in the community such as literacy, assistive devices, and psychological services.
- After a general “meet and greet” with new staff, surveys will be distributed to target main customer needs. An informative meeting will be hosted and might include a panel of Deaf adults who share stories growing up with parents who couldn’t communicate with them and how they coped. Also families who had large obstacles to overcome could share strategies that did or did not work and what services they wish they had taken advantage of. Each family will develop personal goals individualized to their needs. Feedback and alternative plans will be provided throughout the process.
