family life such as DATING, MARRIAGE and
BURIAL, RELIGIOUS and many more…

4. ABOUT DATING
• Women during Spanish regime were generally shy,
refined and inhibited. Their behavior was strictly
monitored by the family to maintain their good
reputation. A girl was not seen alone with a man; he
did not touch them, not even her hands when talking
to each other they were always an arm length apart. A
man got to know a woman only by being a friend or
the woman’s trusted friend who would help in case he
wanted to have the opportunity to see the girl of his
dreams.

5. ABOUT MARRIAGE
Marriage is a sacred to the Filipinos. One
becomes the butt of jokes if he or she remains
single. A bachelorette is considered a potential
competitor for the attention of a husband.
Parents train their sons and daughters in the
proper choice of a mate. Both are reminded that
if they marry, they had to get along well not just
with one another but with their in-laws as well.

6. ABOUT ART
• Filipinos are lovers of art. Their art is reflected
in the things they do and way they believe in
daily life. Our ancestors passed their time
singing awaits, corridos, and reading stories
about the bravery of legendary heroes. For
stage dramas they performed the Zarzuela and
the moro-moro, forms of art which depicted
the life of the people.

• WELCOMING TO VISITORS – When we have
people visit our homes, we always welcome them
with smiles, conversation and food.
• RESPECTFUL – From the word “mano”, to saying
“po” and “opo” to our elders, these words that are a
part of our language show how we respect people.
• DILIGENT AND PATIENT – Majority of our
livelihood in the Philippines is based on
agriculture. It takes a lot of back-breaking work to
plant the fields.

9. NEGATIVE TRAITS
• NIGNAS-KUGON- We start something eagerly but
lose momentum and don’t tend to finish or reach
long-term goals.
• CRAB MENTALITY- Filipinos sometimes get
jealous of other people’s successes that they find a
way to pull the other person down, rather than
striving to be better.
• “BAHALA NA”- When helpless we tend to act to
solve our problems . We usually don’t plan ahead, or
plan for contingencies. Instead of covering all our
bases, we simply let the fates dictate what will
happen.

of approximately the same age, social status, and
interests.
CLIQUE- A group or people that have many of the
same interests & commonly found in a High
School/College setting; most of the time they have a
name & rules for themselves.
CLUB- A club is a group, which usually requires one to
apply to become a member.
CABAL- A cabal is a group of people united in some
close design together, usually to promote their private
views or interests in a church, state, or other
community, often by intrigue.
