When girls and women are violated on the streets, in buses and in isolated mills, we feel naturally outraged. Yet, when they get abused, raped and victimized in the safety of their own homes, we remain unnaturally silent. Domestic Violence accounts for 50% of all reported crimes against women in India. One in every three women is sexually, psychologically and physically violated by her male partner. Many of these women are young brides, less than 18 years old who suffer in silence grappling with what society believes should be a private and guarded matter. Dasra's upcoming report, "No Private Matter" aims to bring the issue of Domestic violence out in the open to help women get their right to a happy and healthy life
Children's interpretation of the abuse, whether or not they disclose the experience, and how quickly they report it also affects the short- and long-term consequences. Children who are able to confide in a trusted adult and who are believed experience less trauma than children who do not disclose the abuse. Furthermore, children who disclose the abuse soon after its occurrence may be less traumatized than those children who live with the secret for years.
I believe that Learning the facts about childhood sexual abuse helps to prevent it.
Talking about it helps to prevent it.
Getting involved helps to prevent it.

Child Sexual Abuse: Understanding the IssuesJane Gilgun
Many people are sexually abused, girls and boys. This slideshow provides accurate information that is not widely available. Important information for survivors and those who love them.
Child abuse is estimated to affect one in four homes. Due to cultural
stigmas, many do not get reported, yet the effect of child sex abuse to
victims and survivors is so devastating, they kept it to themselves and
many times they bring to their grave without being healed or being
whole in their lifetime. This presentation intends to answer key
questions related to child sex abuse, and its consequence prevention
and treatment. It also intends to take a look at the child sex abuser and
the occasional presence of co-dependents, who make perpetrators
bolder in their acts.
Child sexual abuse presents a formidable challenge to law enforcement agencies around the world. Under reporting of cases, inability of victims to testify, and lack of capacity of law courts to deal with such cases appear as major problems. This presentation discusses various issues concerning this major deficiency.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Simple Definition
Child sexual abuse is defined and characterized differently based on
perspective and what is harm – medical, legal, social, emotional.
What we all have in common comes to this:
Child Sexual Abuse occurs when
someone uses a child for their own
sexual gratification.

SONIA’S STORY
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sonia who
was in love with a man named Greg. Greg lived on the other
side of the river where Sonia lived. The river that separated
the two lovers was teeming with man-eating crocodiles. Sonia
wanted to cross the river to be with Greg. Unfortunately, the
bridge had been washed out. So she went to ask Jose, a
boatman, to take her across. But the look in his eyes
frightened Sonia, so she went to her friend Bong and
explained her plight to him. Bong did not want to be involved
at all in the situation. Sonia felt that her only alternative was
to take the boat, even though she did not trust Jose.

USING OUR STRENGTH OF COLLABORATION AND INTERDEPENDENCE.
SONIA’S STORY
When the boat was already in the middle of the river,
Jose told Sonia that he couldn’t control himself and he
wanted to make love to her. When Sonia refused, he
threatened to throw her overboard. But if she complied, he
said he would deliver her safely to the other side. Sonia did
not want to be eaten alive by the crocodiles, but she didn’t
see any alternative for herself, so she did not resist Jose. Jose
gratified his desire for Sonia, then delivered her to the other
shore where Greg lived.

USING OUR STRENGTH OF COLLABORATION AND INTERDEPENDENCE.
SONIA’S STORY
When Sonia told Greg what had happened, he blamed
her because of the way she dressed. He saw her as unclean
and cast her aside with disdain. Heartsick and dejected, Sonia
turned to Lito, a karate black-belter. Lito felt anger for Greg
and compassion for Sonia. He sought out Greg and beat him
brutally. Sonia was overjoyed at the sight of Greg getting his
due. As the sun sets on the horizon, we hear Sonia laughing at
Greg.

PERSONAL SAFETY
Personal Safety empowers children to take
part in their own protection by giving them
information, skills, and self esteem within
their own culture and religion.
Personal Safety is lessons designed to
protect children from any form of
manipulation. This includes bullying from
friends and abuse by adults and peers,
specifically sexual abuse

Personal Safety aims at preventing
today’s children from being tomorrow’s
offenders
Personal Safety builds the support
system of each child, including the family,
church, schools, government institutions,
community and friends.
25. A Filipino nation working together to stop child sexual abuse
USING OUR STRENGTH OF COLLABORATION AND INTERDEPENDENCE.
Personal Safety has four goals, all of which
require listening and responding to children:
1. To give low-risk children additional skills for prevention
2. To give high-risk children the opportunity to tell
3. To give abused children who will never tell, the
information to help them deal with their problem, especially
that the abuse was not their fault
4. To teach children today boundaries in order to prevent
them from becoming the offenders of tomorrow

Touching Rules
• It is never all right for someone to touch your private
body parts except to keep you clean and healthy. It is
never all right for someone older to ask you to touch
their private body parts.
• If someone tries to break rule #1 or if you feel you are
confused or uncomfortable about any touch, say “No!”
and “Go Away!”
• If someone tries to break rule#1, tell someone about it
and keep telling until you get the help you need. Never
keep secrets about a touching problem.
