The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. respect if you do so.
12. Pakikisama (Helping Others)
- There is a general yearning to be accepted and well-
liked among Filipinos. This applies to one and his or her
friends, colleagues, boss, and even relatives. This desire
is what steers one to perform pakikisama.
13. Pagpapahalaga sa Pamilya (Prioritizing Family)
Utang na Loob (Debt of Gratitude)
- Pagpapahalaga sa Pamilya. In other words: putting
importance on your family.
- This implies that a person will place a high regard on
their family and prioritize that before anything else.
- Utang na Loob means to pay your debt with gratitude.
- With utang na loob, there is usually a system of obligation.
When this value is applied, it imparts a sense of duty and
responsibility on the younger siblings to serve and repay the
favors done to them by their elders.
14. Hiya (Shame)
- Hiya means shame.
-This controls the social behaviors and interactions of a
Filipino. It is the value that drives a Filipino be obedient and
respectful to their parents, older siblings, and other
authorities.
15. The Filipino people are very traditional people. They
believe in many different kinds of customs and
follow lots of various traditions.
16. • The Filipino people are known to have close family ties.
This is why you may notice that when you are in the
Philippines, the people in a vicinity most of the time
know each other.
• The Filipino people will stay with their parents as long
as possible. If they would have to move out to a new
house, the homeowner will be asked to throw some
coins when he opens the front door.
17. The Filipino people are very religious as well. Therefore,
there are quite a lot of Filipino culture, customs and
traditions for the home and family that is based on
religious beliefs.
• During the morning, it is also customary for Filipino
people to open their east window. This is said to
bring God’s grace inside the house through the sun.

statues of Jesus or Mary in the house. It is also
important that they are facing the direction of the
front door.
